3 | What Would Happen Next?
"Hey, Hanna?" Cenzie began, standing over her friend who was buried under the covers of their hotel bed. Even though she didn't respond, Cenzie continued, "I'm going to get some coffee with Malcolm soon, wanna come?"
Once again, there was no response, Hannalynn's back facing her friend as she pretend to be asleep.
Cenzie sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed, shaking her friend awake. "Wake up, sleepyhead. You've been moping around in bed for the past two days, only getting up to use the bathroom and eat dry cereal. You need to get up and out, enjoy our last day in New York before going back home. Hunter, Cate, Ayla and I are tired of seeing you like this. So come on, join us for coffee and enjoy the nice spring weather. Please?"
Hannalynn groaned in response, turning over to face her best friend. "Cenzie, I'm pretty sure the love of my life and I just broke up, so excuse me for 'moping around in bed' and eating dry cereal. I'll get up when we go to the airport tonight, but for now, just let me sleep away the pain."
"Don't be a wuss!" Cenzie grabbed her friend's arm, dragging her out of bed. Hannalynn screamed, falling to the floor and attempting to fight off Cenzie's tight grip now on her leg, dragging her to the closet. "You're getting up to get coffee and shop around the city and that's final! No if's, and's, or but's, we are going to enjoy our last day in the city!"
Hannalynn groaned louder as Cenzie threw a pair of clothes at her and shoved her in the direction of the bathroom. "Fine. God, you can be so annoying."
"I know, it's my best quality," Cenzie grinned before shutting the bathroom door, making sure she heard Hannalynn turn on the shower before running across the room to grab her phone. She pressed the familiar contact name, allowing it to ring a couple of times before the other line picked up.
"Morning, love," Malcolm sleepily greeted.
"Good morning, Agent 69, we have a mission this morning," Cenzie replied.
"We're bringing back the agent names? Oh, this must be serious?" Malcolm asked.
"Yes, this is Operation: Bring Fanna back," Cenzie said in a quieter voice.
"Cenz, I don't know..." Malcolm said wearily. "From what you've told me and from what I've told you, I think Finn and Hanna need space right now."
"They need to work this out! Hanna doesn't even know if they broke up," Cenzie replied.
"Finn seems to think they did..." Malcolm sighed. "I just don't think this is a great idea—"
"But we won't know unless we try," Cenzie pointed out. "Please?"
"Fine. You're lucky I love you," Malcolm replied.
"I know, and I love you too," Cenzie grinned. "Just get Finn to meet up with us at the coffee shop in twenty minutes, but maybe don't mention Hanna."
"Got it. See you in twenty."

Once Cenzie helped Hannalynn get ready, she texted Malcolm and they headed down the street to the coffee shop. She felt a little nervous, almost guilty for her plan; but felt it was the best option for her friend, to work things out.
Cenzie held the door open, eyeing Malcolm and Finn sitting at a table on the other side. Hannalynn looked in the same direction, her heart sinking when she noticed the curly haired, freckled boy's eyes locking with hers. This is what Hannalynn wanted to avoid for as long as possible; feeling her heart break into even more pieces, which she wasn't even sure was possible. She hated feeling like he had so much control over her, how he could make her break with just one look.
"Cenzie, I can't," Hannalynn said, her voice barely a whisper, before turning around and heading outside. Cenzie gave Malcolm and Finn an apologetic look before running after her friend, who was leaning against the side of the wall between two buildings, fighting back tears.
"Hanna, I'm so—" Cenzie began, her arms wrapping around her friend.
"Sorry?" Hannalynn interrupted, embracing her friend's gesture. "I get it. I know you guys want us to be okay, but I don't know if we can get past this..." Hannalynn paused, her voice breaking. "I'm sorry if this breakup ruins the friend group."
"Don't be sorry, Hanna, we're all here for you," Cenzie hugged her friend tighter, looking up at one point to notice Finn standing on the sidewalk, staring down between the buildings to see Cenzie and Hannalynn. Malcolm was behind him, the same look on his face as on Cenzie's, Finn looking just as heartbroken as Hannalynn.
After a few seconds, Finn turned around and walked away, Malcolm following him.
"Finn, I'm sorry I didn't tell you she was coming—" Malcolm started, Finn waving his hand.
"It's fine, Mal," Finn sighed. "She just doesn't want to see me right now, and I get it... we need to keep our distance."
"For how long?" Malcolm asked.
"I don't know!" Finn snapped, flipping around to face Malcolm. He noticed Finn fighting back tears, which made his heart ache for his best friend. "Maybe forever, because I don't know if we can fix this."
Finn then turned back around and headed in the direction of their hotel, leaving Malcolm (and even Cenzie) to wonder; what would happen next?
