XII. Under the Imperius Curse

"Sometimes I have a tendency to walk on the dark side without even knowing it."

Juliet's POV

After I sat down on the couch in the house that Fenrir had brought me to, I fell into a deep sleep. I don't know how long I slept, or how I got moved, but I woke up in the same place I had originally transformed it: Remus' shack.

Delighted, I changed into fresh clothes and hummed the Hogwarts School song as I walked down the stairs to greet Remus. I made sure to bring my book bag downstairs as well because we could be leaving momentarily.

"Good morning Remus!" I enthusiastically said, practically skipping across the living room and over to Remus. He had pants on, but he hadn't yet put on his shirt. And Merlin's Beard did he look fine!

"Someone slept well," Remus jokingly muttered under his breath.

"That would be me. Shall we head back to the castle now? I'm hungry for breakfast!"

Remus and I then walked back to the castle without arising suspicion throughout Hogsmeade. We had both slept in a little bit and were just in time to get breakfast before the morning rush. It was too early to get some more sleep before today's classes, so Remus and I decided to eat breakfast together.

We then sat down, the only two Gryffindors at the house table this early, and plopped the freshly cooked breakfast food onto our plates.

"Lovely morning, isn't it?" I asked my dear friend, who seemed slightly confused at first. He didn't reply right away due to his slight confusion, but what was there to be confused about? It was, in fact, a lovely morning!

After breakfast, the rest of the day flew by faster than usual, and I decided to finish off the day by studying by myself, on my bed, inside my dorm room. Lily was busy with James at the moment, Alice was busy with her boyfriend from Hufflepuff, and Marlene was off doing God knows what, which meant I was all alone, finally.

I got most of my Potions homework done, which was what I was hoping to finish by the end of the night. Occasionally, my mind wandered off to other things, like what happened last night.

It was so good to see my brother Fenrir again; I hadn't seen him since I was just a wee toddler. I also saw my birth mother as well! There, Fenrir told me all about his sophisticated plans to unify the wizarding world and to put it in order. For some reason, I'm not sure why I resisted his plan at first. But now I believe it's amazingly smart and I'm completely on board with it. All I have to do is go to nearby homes of other witches and wizards and simply give them a bite, inflicting them with lycanthropy. It's as simple as that! I would get started right away, but I have to wait for the next full moon in order to help Fenrir with his plans. I can't wait.

Over the next two weeks, my life was absolutely ecstatic. I was so excited for the full moon to come soon! We had finally finished our unit on the three Unforgivable Curses in Defense Against the Dark Arts, but while I was studying for the unit test, the most peculiar thing happened in the library.

There I was, studying with Remus (we had made plans the day before) on the Unforgivable Curses. We were sitting next to each other and as we reviewed, we both took turns reading aloud sections in the textbook on what we were being tested on. Remus read the following passage aloud, "The Imperius Curse is one of the three Unforgivable Curses. It gives the caster complete control over their victim, placing them in a dream-like state of calmness. The victim does anything and everything that the caster wants them to do, but in some cases, the curse can be resisted. The Imperius Curse is different than the others in which it can be defended against, only if the victim is strong enough to overcome the caster's wants. One of the first signs of resisting the Imperius Curse is when the victim knows and recognizes that they are under its effects."

As Remus read this to me, a funny feeling ran through my body. I couldn't put my finger on it, but something about that passage being read aloud made me quiver, and I don't know why. Assumingly the funny feeling that went through my body was obvious, and Remus tried to see if everything was alright.

"Jules, are you okay?" he asked effortlessly, stopping his reading aloud and placing his hand on my back for comfort.

"I don't know," I said in reply, "that passage doesn't seem okay for me to hear. I feel like I'm hearing things that I'm not supposed to. I don't know how to describe it. It makes me feel unhappy and unusual."

Remus looked at me with a tilted head, doing his best to comprehend what I was saying. Although it probably sounds like complete and utter gibberish, Remus was there and at least pretended to understand what I was thinking. It was all just so confusing. I was so confused. It was like nothing made sense around me like I was supposed to be doing one thing but I did something else.
