* important: this is part one of a double update, don't forget to read the next chapter as well!
𝕳appy and content while juggling the two containers full of muffins in her arms, June rings the doorbell and waits.
The door opens after half a second and Jim smiles raising his eyebrows in surprise at the sight of her.
"Come on in, hon", he steps aside letting her walk in with a grin as she turns to him.
"You here for Luke? Last I saw him, he said he was gonna go nap in his room".
"No, I'm here for Jack actually".
Jim blinks trying to rein in his amusement and nods, "He's in his room".
"Great. This is for you, by the way. You, Luke and Ellen".
He chuckles accepting one of the two containers, "Thank you. Wow. Ellen's going to love these, Luke too. Wait, these are . . . .?".
"Blueberry Cream".
"Right", he nods then glances at the other container still in her hands, "And that's for . . . ", he knows who it is for but somehow, making her admit it seems like a better, more amusing option.
"Jack".
"All for him?".
"Yeah, well. It's his favourite so", she shrugs.
Jim nods, barely containing his smile and gestures for her to head upstairs, "Don't let me keep you then".
The first time Jack tasted Blueberry Cream muffins made by June was when, back during June's Sophomore Year at high school, he went over to get Luke for their daily practice at the rink and ended up tasting the muffins June had been baking for the Annual Bake Sale while Luke sat by finishing his homework.
He'd loved them immediately and proceeded to buy at least a third of the muffins that went up for sale the very next day.
Ever since then, whenever in the mood for baking and doing something to make him happy, June started baking those muffins always setting aside a specific amount just for him.
Today, she woke up with the sudden urge to bake but also see that favourite smile of hers as soon as possible and so, she got to work baking.
She knocks on his bedroom door, opening it after hearing a loud, "Yeah?".
He's seated on the bed, legs spread out in front of him as he concentrates on the screen on the opposite wall with a gaming console in his hand.
"Bro, look behind you. Behind—oh god, are you blind?", he huffs not noticing June leaning on the door in amusement.
"You couldn't warn me two seconds earlier? Dumbass", she hears Trevor's voice from the phone lying beside Jack on the bed.
"I was distracted, shut the fuck up—", he finally looks away from the screen and his eyes widen, lips tipping up at the sight of the brunette quietly watching him with a smile.
"Jack, what the hell! You're about to die!".
"Oh—", he turns back quickly to the screen only to be greeted with the GAME OVER notification.
He scoffs putting the controller away and beckoning June to shut the door.
"Where's your head at?", Trevor groans through the phone.
Jack's eyes slowly trail up, taking in her white summer dress and the container in her hands, her hair falling loose down her back, a smirk lining his lips when she narrows her eyes at him.
"June's here".
"Oh. Oh. I should've known. Hi, Juniper!".
"Hi, Z", she calls out, sitting down near his leg.
"Did you lock the door? You should probably lock the door, you guys are gonna get busy and no one wants to traumatise Lu—".
"Go annoy someone else. I'll call you later, bye".
"Right. Because June's there, of course I'm not important anym—", Jack cuts the call not giving him the chance to go on and rolls his eyes.
"Did you tell him something?", June laughs.
"Nah. He's been on my ass all summer. But forget about him. You're here. Come here", he shifts to the side, allowing her to settle on the bed beside him.
He puts his arm around pulling her flush against him and she breathes him in, feeling so incredibly serene.
"I was going to come over later", he kisses the top of her head and she sighs, happily.
"I baked you these", she finally offers him the muffins and his brows furrow.
He takes his arm off her and opens the container as she leans back, chewing on her bottom lip.
A wide smile instantly takes over his face and he looks up, eyes twinkling at her.
"Blueberry Cream, huh?".
"Wanted to bake something for you", she tries to seem nonchalant even though her insides are engaged in thrilling somersaults by just the sight of his smile.
"You're just . . . ", he shakes his head, opening his arm for her again and takes a bite of the muffin when she settles into him again.
"Oh my god", he all but moans through the mouthful, "Is this heaven? I think this is heaven".
"Oh, come on. Now, you're just exaggerating".
He tightens his arm around her, "I'm not. These are incredible. Thank you, baby".
His lips brush against her forehead and she attempts her best to not melt into him and forget about everything else in the world to the point where all that consumes her is You, You, You.
"Mhm", June hides her face in his tshirt and feels his chest vibrate as he laughs knowing full well the effect he has on her.
"I could eat these for the rest of my life".
"In love with them, are you?".
"Possibly. I could even marry them".
"I'm seriously rubbing off on you".
"Hmm", he takes another bite and exhales, "June, I think you should marry me".
She knows it's a joke. She knows it's a joke. She knows it's a joke! But, her body still goes rigid and her breathing still quickens, her eyes still almost bulge out of her head.
Because you don't just say that to a girl who's in love with you. Never mind the fact that you don't know she's in love with you but you still don't say that to her. You just don't. It's just not in the rules.
It's so so against the rules that it should be illegal. You should be made to serve jail time if you so much as breathe a word about marriage to a girl who is in love with you.
"What?", he continues eating the muffins as if he is not the reason she's close to losing her mind right now, right here in his arms.
"You can't marry someone for their baking skills".
"No? Says who?".
"Says me. Says everyone", she clears her throat trying to lighten her voice, "There needs to be more than one reason why you want to marry someone".
"How about two reasons? You're a great baker and you're perfect, there you have it".
"I'm not accepting anything without a ring".
"You want a ring?", he pulls back so that he can look down at her staring up at him through her eyelashes with her lip between her teeth.
His eyes run back and forth between her eyes, that one feeling overwhelming him as he continues staring at the sweet, mystical perfection that she is.
"Yes, I want a ring", she tips her chin up.
"I'll get you a ring. I'll get you the best damn ring anyone could ever get. You tell me what you want and I'll get it for you".
June laughs, shutting him up with the touch of her lips against his but now this whole talk of rings is the only thing dominating his mind.
Well, that and her tongue sliding into his mouth.
He blindly places the muffin container on the nightstand and tangles one hand through her hair, the other trailing down her body to settle on her hips as he presses her back.
Their lips move together, their scent and their breaths intermixing to ground them away from reality, just the two of them, hands grabbing the other and tongues skillfully moving together.
June arches her back, pulling him down on her and presses her hand into his waist to pull him closer, their bodies lying completely flushed with each other's.
Jack holds himself up on his forearms and inches his face back, resting his forehead against hers as they both breathe heavily into the space without uttering a word.
"June".
She blinks, staring right into his eyes.
"Yeah?".
"I . . . .I, uhm", he swallows but she stays quiet waiting for him to finish whatever he's about to say.
"Jack—what the fuck?".
