THE CAPITOL
TRIBUTE LIVING QUARTERS

KATNISS AND PEETA are listening intently to Haymitch, who is standing infront of a large screen, going through each tribute the pair will have to face. He makes his way through District 1 quickly, moving on to District 2.

"District 2, Julius and Elise." Haymitch pauses for a moment and sighs, "Let me just get straight to it. Do not go near Julius in that arena. I mean if you have enough and want a painless way out then be my guest. Go ahead because he'll mercy kill you with absolutely no hesitance."

Katniss and Peeta share a look. Katniss was only eight years old at the time of Julius' victory but that brutal fight at the end, that was something Katniss doesn't think she'll ever forget.

"My guess is that he'll team up with Cashmere and Gloss but I can't even be sure if he's looking for an alliance or if he wants to work on his own."

"Now, Elise. She won the 72nd Games. She scored an 11 in her private training, just like you, sweetheart. My advice, try to form an alliance with her." Haymitch notices the unsure looks on the pair's face, "I know it might be putting you off that she's from District 2 but believe me when I say that Elise is different from the other careers. If you can gain her trust, she'll be a great ally to have on your side."

Haymitch pauses for a moment, glancing at Katniss and Peeta as a mischievous grin appears on his face, "Also, don't tell anyone, but I have a bet going on with Chaff on how long it will take for those two to get together. I'm definitely going to win."

Haymitch then goes through Beetee and Wiress from District 3, he doesn't have an awful lot to say other than comment on their intelligence.

"District 4-"

"Finnick Odair, right?" Katniss asks, recognizing the Capitol's 'golden boy' almost instantly.

"Yes, he won his games at fourteen. One of the youngest ever. He's extremely humble-"

"You're kidding." Katniss interrupts again, raising an eyebrow at Haymitch.

"Yes, I'm kidding. He's a peacock, a total preener." Haymitch says, throwing his hands up in the air, "But he's the Capitol's darling, they love him here. Charming, smart and very skilled in combat. Especially water."

"What about weaknesses?" Peeta asks.

"One. Catlin." Haymitch says as the screen focuses on a young adult with red hair, "She volunteered for Annie. Finnick was Catlin's mentor during her games and when she won, they became really good friends. If Finnick tries to protect her in any way, it exposes him. If you want Catlin on your side, you'll want to talk to her as soon as possible before she makes her mind up on how she feels about you. Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to change Catlin's mind once she's decided on something."

Once again, the screen changes, switching to the Justice Building in District 5.

"District 5, Pierre and Saffron. Pierre, well.. you never really know what to expect with Pierre. This guy is full of surprises. He's know for throwing himself into things without even giving them a single thought. I'm sure he's given his family and friends a lot of heart attacks over the years. He's.."

Haymitch is lost for words. He never knows how to describe Pierre, "Peculiar. He's a nice guy but sometimes can lose sight of things when stuff goes south. And.. well let's just say, you'd find a lot of holes in the walls at Pierre's house."

"Now, Saffron. She's sweet and all, maybe a little naïve at times. But don't let her kindness fool you, that girl can and will kill if she needs to. She guilt tripped the others into thinking twice about killing her then while they were distracted one of her allies would sneak up from behind and kill. Good strategy but Saffron's too smart to use it again, she knows it won't work this time. Don't bother trying to hide something from her, she has eyes like a hawk. She picks up on your shit before you're even aware of it yourself."

Peeta leans forward, his eyes fixed on the girl projected on the screen.

"District 7, Chase and Johanna. A common misconception people make about Chase is that he's weak. It's true that he was left traumatised after his games and might be a little fragile. But you can't forget that Chase did kill atleast five tributes in his games, one of those kills involving breaking a kid's neck. Which was pretty unexpected from a boy who only scored a five in training."

Katniss remembers seeing Chase last year during the interviews. He was talking to his mentees when they both caught the other's eye. She remembers him smiling at her but she didn't give one in return, why would she, given the circumstances?

"District 8, Sichou." Haymitch grimaces as he thinks of everything Sichou has been through. Haymitch has a soft spot for many of the victors but with Sichou, he has a very soft spot for her.

"She's very skilled with a bow and arrow. I'd say she'll give you a run for your money." Haymitch tells Katniss.

Katniss opens her mouth to say something but Haymitch holds up a hand to stop her, "I don't want to hear whatever snarky comment you have to say, Katniss. You don't have any idea what Sichou's been through. She won her games for her family, just to be left alone. I'm telling you two, that girl doesn't deserve any of the shit that people give her. She deserves so much better. Hell, I'm even considering taking her in under my roof."

hii! i got a burst of motivation today so here's chapter one!! sichou deserves the world and no one is allowed say otherwise or else 😘. let me know if there's any mistakes cuz i haven't read over this! also, i'm currently in the middle of reading catching fire so this fic will be a mix of the book and the movie! hope you enjoyed <3
