there was a point in shiori's life where everything seemed moderately okay.

key word: seemed.

it wasn't long before little shiori had woken up at the hospital with bandages all around her arms and legs, including her forehead.

the girl could barely move her hand without pain stimulating throughout her entire body.

as a nurse came in, a relieved smile was shown, much to shiori's surprise, as no one had shown her such expressions before.

except for chitose.

but six year-old shiori didn't have to ask to know where chitose was right now. her head wallowed with a mixture of pounding guilt and grief as she just laid there, helpless.

"m̶͓̖͓͕̗̦̝̈̇̿͑͘͜͠ͅȓ̴̠͙̕.̷̖̭̘̖̝̹̂͌͝ ̶͖̾̅́̐̇̀̀̀m̶̡̮͓̯͇̮͙̤̞̻̒̀̾̂ả̸͎̤̜̠̜̟̦̪͑͋́ň̶̛̗̰̣̑̑̕a̸̩̠̰̬̼͚̤̓̑ͅm̴̨̯͎̱̠͈̲̮̏ͅi̸̼͎̔, your daughter is awake", the nurse nicely informed, to which the male had feigned worry as he even had tears dripping down his wrinkly face.

"oh s̷̨͕͓̞͛̑̍̿́̇͛̽̓͠h̶̳͚̣͉͎͚͛̆͗̽͋̈͜ơ̶͉̦̩͖̺̮̥̄̐̀̃́̂̐͘͠͝s̶͎̮͓̭͆͒h̴̨̢̡͖̻̖͕̬̓͒̏̎̇͌̍̓͜͜à̵̝̳̄̅̕!! I was so scared that I was going to lose you! you're all I have after your mother...I-I...I can't believe you had ran out into the street by yourself without telling me first...", the man sobbed, to which shiori could see the nurse covering her mouth in pity from the corner of her eyes.

'fool', shiori thought, mentally scoffing at the naive nurse.

"I promise...I'll be a more attentive father from now on", the man choked out, leaning in real close as shiori could get a huge waft of her father's alcoholic mixed with cigarette breath.

"and I'll make sure that you'll grow up to be the perfect daughter", he quietly seethed, to which shiori had desperately wished that she could call for help, but her mouth refused to open.

it wasn't long before young shiori was discharged from the hospital, as she had seemed to fully recover, at least physically.

the moment the girl had stepped into the house, all the beer bottles and litter had been replaced with the smell of bleach and a normal looking home.

shiori was utterly shocked. in her six years of living here, never had she seen the house look so clean and livable.

she had thought that something in her father must've changed for the better, but how wrong she was.

child shiori didn't know that the moment her father had killed chitose, it had triggered something within him that prompted him to do more.

and that, was only the beginning of true hell.

"shut it. yer going to wake her up", osamu harshly whispered, to which the girl had ended up rubbing her eyes as she squirmed a bit from laying on osamu's shoulder meanwhile the gray-haired boy held her thin body.

"now look at what ya did!"

"I didn't do jack shit!", atsumu defended himself, not understanding why the girl was sleeping with osamu cradling her anyways.

'couldn't she just have slept on the ground or something?', atsumu bitterly thought.

indeed, half of the inmates were let out behind the prison itself, though still surrounded by a fence with electricity ready to shock any escapees.

surprisingly, the field was quite spacious and had a few trees planted here and there. though what was most beautiful to shiori was probably the sea.

if the girl had to assume, the prison resided on an island where it's surrounded by a vast ocean filled with unknown creatures.

hence there was no way to escape or leave unless you have a helicopter or ship, which never happened because unless there was a new inmate or their time was finally up, no one visited.

shiori's tired red eyes fell onto osamu, who was still holding her as he gave the girl a ghost of a smile, so small that it was barely noticeable.

"how much time do I have left?", the girl groggily asked, stumbling upwards as osamu followed suit.

"about another 10 minutes", osamu softly replied, watching as the girl adjusted her booty shorts and crop top.

"I could really use a high right about now", the girl mumbled, wishing that she could just relax mentally for a while.

"do you know of any inmates that have cigarettes or anything?", shiori asked, to which atsumu's face had contorted into disgust.

"no! that shit's nasty and neither is it good for ya", the blonde spat in distaste, to which osamu had to agree too, as they weren't exactly fond of the idea of getting high.

"aw~ little 'tsumu worried for me?", shiori teased, sauntering closer to the male as he took a step back.

"no fucking way! I could care less, and honestly, if you're that desperate, maybe ask one of the officers. maybe they'll comply and cave in like the pussies they are", atsumu scoffed, to which shiori had marched off as osamu just glared at his brother.

"what?!"

shiori hummed as she was making her way over towards commander kuroo, to which she had promptly stopped in her tracks as her sharp eyes had caught a sneaky little officer trying to relax himself in the shadows of the prison, near the corner of the metal fence.

'well if this isn't fate then I don't know what is', the girl inwardly giggled as she skipped over to the one and only suna, who to shiori's surprise, didn't look shocked in the slightest.

     "what are you doing here?"

"why it's part of the field. why can't I be here?", shiori retorted, to which the dark-haired male had frowned.

     "leave".

"I don't think so~ say, how about you share? I promise I won't tell if you do", shiori offered, to which suna's shoulders had slumped even more, if possible.

     "no".

"then I guess I'll go tell shin—"

"okay okay fine! when do you want it?", suna grumbled, not favoring the current situation.

it was the only vape pen he could sneak in and he'd be damned if he lost it because of shiori and her loud mouth.

"tonight, and before you complain, I don't care, figure it out", shiori smirked as she swiftly left, leaving suna conflicted.

     'fucking hell'.

"commander kita, may I sub in for tonight's security cams?", suna questioned, to which kita had raised a brow in suspicion, as the dark-haired boy had never voluntarily asked permission to do something, much less a job that required him to stay up late.

"reason", kita stated.

suna briefly glanced away as he could feel kita's stare burning into his soul.

"I've been...feeling a bit incompetent with my work lately, hence why I want to start making up for it by taking a night shift", suna lied, though not about the incompetent part.

kita hummed a bit as he seemed a bit skeptical. though nevertheless, he wasn't one to say no when it came to suna wanting to change for the better.

"alright, but make sure that you perform your duties properly. understand?"

"yes sir".
