"I am here to support you but I disagree with this entire plan." Jessie said, following Aquarella as they swum past the gates of Wakanda without being seen, obviously. "This was literally your plan!" Aquarella retorted. Jessie rolled his eyes, "No, my plan was to talk to her! Not sneak out behind your mother's back, then sneak into Wakanda, force me to come with you just to talk to the fucking princess who's probably asleep!" Jessie exclaimed.
"I did not force you and saying it out loud makes it sound bad!" Aquarella shot back in offense, swimming faster so Jessie had to quickly catch up with her. "Because it is bad!" Jessie replied, finally stopping when she did. They both transformed back into their human form and peeked their heads out of the water. "Holy fishsticks, the air is like...I can't explain it. It's like having an air orgasm, wait no that sounds wrong." Jessie mumbled to himself.
Aquarella shook her head in amusement and walked out of the water, Jessie following her and looking around in shock. He had only been to the surface twice and each time, it was like a whole other experience. "Come on, I know a short cut to the palace." Rella said, taking Jessie's hand and dragging him with her.
"Do you even know where her room is?" Jessie asked as they came up the palace, hiding behind a bush so the Dora Milaje wouldn't spot them. "Sort of. I have the entire map of the palace from my mom's bracelet and transferred it to mine. I'm pretty sure the princess's chambers are right here. I just have to figure out how to get in." Rella mumbled. Jessie looked at her in shock, "Chambers? I have to share a room with my stupid little brother and she gots chambers?!" Jessie exclaimed and Rella quickly shushed him.
"She's literally a princess, what did you expect?" Rella deadpanned.
"Right. Okay but how about you hack into your mom's bracelet, and pretend to be your mom?" Jessie suggested. "And say what?"
"I don't know, uhm fuck probably just say that you need to speak with her privately without anyone present." Jessie said. Aquarella pursed her lips, liking the idea. She quickly hacked into her mom's bracelet, connecting it with hers, she shot a text to Shuri.
Auntie Tea aka Sea Goddess
Hey, I need to speak with you right now. It's very urgent and nobody can be around. Not even the Dora.
Shuri Udaku
Of course. But it's very late right now, is everything alright?
Auntie Tea aka Sea Goddess
I can't say over text. Let me know when everyone's gone and leave the door open for me.
Shuri Udaku
Sent them away right now. You should be good. My door is open.
Auntie Tea aka Sea Goddess
On my way.
"Hahaha, why do they text like that? They sound like mature adults. That's no fun." Jessie chuckled. Aquarella couldn't help but also chuckle and watched as the Dora Milaje began to leave the area. They waited a few more minutes just to be sure before quickly running towards the doors. Unfortunately, they were locked and could only be opened by Kimoyo Beads.
"There's a window right there, you climb it with your Talokan spider shit and help me up." Jessie said and Aquarella agreed with the plan. She quickly scaled the wall and climbed onto the balcony, she held out her hand and he jumped with his abilities, high enough to reach her hand. "I got you." Aquarella pulled him up and helped him onto the balcony. "Next time you're gonna steal your mom's Wakandan Beads cause I am not doing that again."
Aquarella entered the room and opened the door, they walked down the halls quietly, following the map to Shuri's chambers. Appearing at the door, they both shared a nervous look externally questioning how they got to this point in their life's. "Aunt Tea? You there?" A voice called out.
"Not exactly." Aquarella spoke, opening the door with a nervous expression and Shuri's worried look immediately dropped and formed into a glare. "What do you want? Haven't you done enough? Come to finish the job?" Shuri stood up, holding her arms out as if she were ready to die. "Go on. Kill me. Or you wanna torture me first? Make sure I regret all the things I said to you?" Shuri questioned.
"I'm not here to kill you, or torture you. I'm not my father." Aquarella said, shaking her head in denial.
"You're right. You're not your father, you're worse." Those words stung, deeply and especially hearing them out loud. Jessie couldn't help but wince as he stood behind the door, listening in on the conversation. "Mhm, why's that?" Rella asked, genuinely curious.
"You gonna make me say it out loud? Let's see, maybe the fact that you helped kill an entire ship of people. You tried to kill a young innocent girl. You stayed in your room as you knew your father and his army was attacking my country and killing my mother! You stand by and pretend to be innocent when you're just as guilty as him. I thought you would change, I actually believed that I could help you change. But you can't change someone who's already in too deep." Shuri scoffed, tears threatening to spill but she held them in, not wanting to give Aquarella the privilege of seeing her weak.
"I didn't kill anyone, I never have and I never will. I didn't help him kill anyone. I had no idea about your mother because I was in Atlantica, healing from that wound your savior gave me. I wasn't in the right mind when I was after the scientist. I had my father's whispers in my ear, telling me it was okay, that I was protecting my nations. I didn't know she was innocent, and if I did, I wouldn't have even attempted to help him. I had zero part in the attack, and you know that. If I did, I would've been there."
Shuri shook her head, not wanting to believe her. She needed someone to blame. She needed someone to take her anger out on. She just needed someone. "If you didn't do any of what I accused you of, why are you here?" Shuri questioned, blinking away her tears.
"You said it felt different, your brother suffered in silence, and when he asked for your help, you couldn't give that to him. I know how you feel. My sister, Soulina, she died in my arms, she cried for me to help her, and I couldn't," Aquarella bit her lip, holding her tears but they were threatening to fall any second. "I'm responsible for killing my sister." Jessie had to hold himself back from saying anything. He hated when she blamed herself for what was simply just bad timing.
"And part of me feels like I was responsible for your mom's death. I just wanna say that I'm really sorry. I'll go now." Aquarella headed towards the door but Shuri reached out and took her hand, stopping her. "It wasn't your fault. Your sister, wasn't your fault. My mother, wasn't your fault. None of it was your fault." Shuri spoke, holding onto Aquarella's hand tightly but it didn't hurt.
"You don't understand. If I never took her to that island-" Shuri placed her hand over Aquarella's mouth, pulling her closer by her arm. "It's not your fault." Shuri stated slowly. Jessie squinted her eyes wondering what exactly was going on in there.
"Repeat it."
Shuri slowly moved her hand from Rella's mouth and arched a brow, waiting for her to repeat the words. "It wasn't my fault," Rella mumbled.
"Repeat it until you believe it, not me." Shuri instructed. Jessie raised his brows not expecting that, he was just sure they were on the verge of kissing. I mean if someone spoke to him like that, he'd definitely smash.
"It wasn't my fault."
"Again."
"It wasn't my fault," Aquarella spoke, tears in her eyes as she was actually starting to believe it. Staring into Shuri's eyes, she said it again, and again, and again, all until she actually believed it. "Do you believe it now?" Shuri questioned.
"Yeah. It wasn't my fault." Rella said, nodding to herself. Shuri slowly removed her hands from Rella's arms and they both awkwardly took a few steps back. "Uh, I should get going, it's really late." Aquarella said, intertwining her hands.
"No, it's way too late for you to be out there. Just stay here. Tea would kill me of she knew I let you leave this late." Shuri said, sitting on the edge of her bed. Aquarella scratched the back of her ear awkwardly, "Yeah about that. I sorta, kinda snuck out."
Shuri shook her head, not surprised by the information. "It's okay, I'll cover you. I'll just say you came here to apologize." Shuri shrugged.
"One more thing. I kinda, also sorta brought someone with me. Jessie, you can come out now." Aquarella mumbled. Jessie smiled awkwardly as he stepped into the room. Shuri raised her brows, and Jessie knew jealousy from anywhere. He could practically smell it on her.
"Well all of the rooms are being used because of the attack and people need places to stay. We only have one left and it's a twin bed," Shuri explained. Jessie spoke up before Aquarella could get a word, "I will take that. Thank you." Jessie chuckled, patting Rella's shoulder and she glared at him.
"One of the Dora will escort you." Shuri gestured the Dora waiting at the door. Rella and Jessie shared equally confused looks, wondering how she got there so fast.
"Great. Amazing meeting you by the way. Have a good night." Jessie waved goodbye and followed the Dora.
Aquarella awkwardly stood there, still very confused on where she would stay. "You and your boyfriend don't share a bed?" Shuri questioned, finding it very odd but maybe it was just her. She wasn't really a relationship person so she probably didn't know how much dating changed over the years.
"I'm sorry?" Rella made a confused face, thinking she heard hed wrong.
"You and your boyfriend don't share a bed? I thought couples did that...or is it different for sirens?" Shuri stood up, leaning against the post of the bed.
"Boyfriend? Oh! You think Jessie is my boyfriend? I don't know how to say this, but uhm I think the American term for it is gay. Jessie is gay, yeah he's only attracted to men. And I think the American term for me would be lesbian. Yes, I am lesbian. I am only attracted to women, men gross me out." Aquarella explained, trying to properly say the words in English as sometimes she only knew certain words in Mayan or Aquan.
Shuri couldn't help but snort, finding Aquarella's explanations very funny when she could've just said they weren't dating. "Did I get it wrong? You're looking at me like I'm crazy," Rella covered her face in embarrassment.
"No, I just find it funny how you explained all of that when you could've just said you weren't dating." Shuri said, cracking a chuckle. "Oh, right." Rella mumbled in realization, now feeling really stupid.
Shuri couldn't help but feel a little bad. "If it makes you feel better, I am also lesbian." Shuri confessed. It felt weird saying it out loud when she kinda just knew and didn't really like putting a label on it. She just knew she was only attracted to women and that's all. "Did your family know? My mom doesn't know, she's still trying to set up an arranged marriage for me." Aquarella pursed her lips, still curious as to why Amphitrite didn't notice that she had no interest in men.
"Yeah, all my family knew, it wasn't really secret. I always used to confess my love for my girl teacher to my brother," Shuri chuckled at the memory. But she was glad that she wasn't raised to be ashamed of who she was. She was unapologetically always her.
"That reminds me a lot of my sister. She was in love with Jessie's sister and screamed it out loud like it was nothing." Aquarella laughed softly, recalling the memory. Amphitrite always thought it was a faze and never really knew it is wasn't or not because Aquarella told Soulina that she had to be more careful about what she said about girls. "I can sleep on the couch so you can have the bed," Shuri offered.
"No I can't do that. I'll take the couch. But, do you have any clothes I can borrow? It's not exactly comfortable sleeping in a corset," Aquarella said, fiddling awkwardly with her fingers. She didn't know why she was so fidgety all of a sudden but she hated it. "There should be something in my closet that will fit you." Shuri pointed over to a closet, clicking something on her Kimoyo Beads to unlock it.
Aquarella walked into the closet, hardly anything in there would've fit her body type so she settled for a baggy shirt that fit her quite perfectly. She retracted the mesh skirt so she was only in the black shorts underneath it. Aquarella pulled off the jewelry on her hands and set it beside her corset and skirt. Rella jumped slightly seeing Shuri leaning against the bedframe when she walked out. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. I just, I don't know it feels wrong that you're sleeping on that very small couch." Shuri mumbled.
"It's fine, really it's okay. I can sleep anywhere. And it would feel even more wrong if I took your bed after what my dad did." Aquarella responded, her hands behind her back, nervously messing with her nails. Shuri let out a huff, "You're a very oblivious person. I'm asking if you want to share the bed. We're both adults, it's not a very big deal. And like I said, you're not responsible for your father's actions. I didn't blame Amphitrite and I'm not going to blame you."
"Right." Rella nodded to herself. "I take it my clothes didn't fit you much?" Shuri held a small smirk tugged on her lips.
Rella couldn't help but roll her eyes, "I hate you."
"Feeling is mutual." Shuri shrugged, slipping under the covers.
Rella sighed before laying on top of the covers rather than under them which made Shuri silently question that. "Do you have a radio?" Rella quietly asked.
"Kind of, why?"
"I can't really sleep without music," Aquarella sat up, looking back at Shuri. "Any particular artist?" Shuri asked.
"The Weeknd is one of my favorites," Rella shrugged, Shuri nodded. "Griot, play The Weeknd." Shuri requested.
"As you wish, Princess."
Rella jumped, looking around for who just spoke and Shuri chuckled. "It's my AI." Shuri said just as The Weeknd's music began to flood the room. "Ohh, right. I used to have one of those but my mom took it away." Rella said, laying back down.
"I know, she told me." Shuri mumbled. Rella rolled her eyes, "Of course she did." She muttered. "What do you have against your mother? Why do you act like you hate her so much?" Shuri sat up, turning her body to look at Aquarella who stared at the ceiling. "I don't hate my mother. I hate the things she does." Aquarella corrected.
"What does she do? Besides protect you, love you, be there for you." Shuri spoke, not understanding why Rella was so distant from Amphitrite. She heard the stories and Amphitrite was being a good mother in each of them. "You're not there, you don't understand." Rella retorted, feeling as though Shuri had no room to talk when her relationship with her mother was pretty healthy.
"Then tell me what I don't understand. Tell me, I really would like to know." Shuri replied. Aquarella sighed heavily and sat up, turning her body to face Shuri. "She didn't want me, she never wanted me. Ever since she found out I was my dad's she wanted to get rid of me, but how would that look? The Queen who loved all getting rid of her first child? Wasn't a good look, because that's all she cares about. Her image."
"And then James came along and he was so sweet and he cared about me when he didn't need to. He treated me like I was his own daughter and for once in my life, at that time I actually felt like I was loved. It took another man, another good man to make her actually care about me. But then she just had to jeopardize that by cheating on him. Then Soulina was born, and she lied to him and said she was his. He knew she wasn't, but he still stuck around for me, and for her."
Shuri guiltily looked down, now feeling bad for her judgement when she didn't know what went on behind closed doors. "You wanna know how James really died? He didn't die because of the surface people. He died because my father killed him and she covered it up. She lied to us, till this day she still thinks I don't know. But I do, because I witnessed it. So you ask what I have against my mother. There's your answer." Aquarella licked the front of her teeth, pulling her knees to her chest with a sigh.
"I would say I'm sorry but that's probably the last thing you want to hear. But, I'm genuinely sorry for assuming when I didn't know the whole story." Shuri said, hesitantly reaching out her hand to place it on Rella's knee. "It's okay, it's not your fault. Most people assume I have the perfect life and the perfect parents, but that's far from the truth. What about you?"
"What about me?" Shuri asked, furrowing her brows in question.
"You got any shitty childhood memories? I mean besides when I beat your ass that one time," Rella smiled sheepishly. Shuri scoffed, "I would've won that fight had you not sung that stupid song!" She argued defensively.
"Hey, my siren song is not stupid!" Aquarella argued. "Yes it is! It's the only way you can actually win a fight," Shuri scoffed.
"Talk to me like that again and I'll kill you with just my voice," Rella threatened, glaring at Shuri who glared back. "Try it. I dare you." Shuri stated calmly, crossing her arms over her chest.ย Rella huffed and shoved Shuri but not to hard, only hard enough for her to almost fall off the bed. "Bitch," Shuri shoved Rella back and she yelped, falling off the bed with a thump.
"Oh no you didn't!" Rella climbed back onto the bed, jumping on top of Shuri as she squealed. "Get off of me!" Shuri attempted to push her off but obviously Rella's strength was a million times stronger than hers. "Say you're sorry!" Rella demanded, pushing down Shuri's hands.
"No." Shuri objected. Aquarella groaned in annoyance, "You're so annoying. It's like you want me to fuck you up."
"At the moment, that sounds pretty nice without the 'up' in it." Shuri stared into her eyes with a small smirk. Rella blinked fast, not sure what to respond to that. "I'm just messing with you, jeez!" Shuri laughed. Rella chuckled awkwardly and climbed off of Shuri. "I'm sorry, I forgot you aren't like used to that kind of humor. That was out of line, I apologize." Shuri said, taking a breath after having laughed a lot.
"Nah, it's cool. It just caught me off guard cause you looked real serious about it," Rella shrugged, trying her best to cover up her disappointment. But obviously Shuri just had to see right through her, like always. "Kiss me."
Aquarella furrowed her brows feeling like it was another joke but she really couldn't tell. "Is this another joke? I'm extremely confused."
"Kiss me before I change my mind." Shuri breathed out. Rella hesitated but the look in Shuri's eyes was dead serious so why not? Rella leaned forward and pressed her lips against Shuri's, immediately raising her hand to place on Shuri's jaw. It didn't last long before Rella pulled away, still feeling like it was just a joke.ย
Until Shuri's arms snaked up to grasp at Rella's shirt, suddenly pulling the siren in and capturing her lips with her own soft pair. Her eyes were scrunched shut as she tightened her grip around Rella's collar, itching to pull the girl in even more. She didn't know why she did, she didn't even know why she was doing this. They didn't like each other, they made that clear. They barely tolerate each other without bursting into another argument. But yet, it still felt so right. That was all she needed to pull the siren closer.
Rella pulled away again, needing breath but Shuri assumed she didn't want or like kissing her. "I'm sorry, I should've asked. I didn't mean to grab you like that." Shuri immediately spoke.
"Shut up." Rella cupped the girl's face and pulled her back in. Shuri pulled back and Rella groaned in annoyance, "Did you just tell me to shut up?" Shuri raised a brow. "You're pissing me off. Do you wanna do this or not?" Rella grumbled. Shuri chuckled, "I mean technically-"
"You talk too much." Rella mumbled before grabbing onto Shuri's hips and pulling the princess onto her lap. Not wasting another second she pulled her down and locked their lips again. After a few seconds Rella hated being on the bottom so she swiftly flipped them over and continued.
"I still hate you by the way," Shuri mumbled, letting out hitched breaths as Rella trailed kisses down her neck.
"Feeling is still mutual baby."
"Good."
