September 1984
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐀 sun peaked through the curtains of Ava's bedroom window, hitting the furniture, as well as the numerous photos of Klaus and Diana, and Ava and Ali.
Turning over on her side, she smiled at the Barbie, which was given to her by Bobby, which she had given the name England's Rose in honor of her mother. Getting out of bed, she walked to her dresser, pulled out her violet two piece swimsuit for the beach, as well as an extra change of clothes.
As the beautiful brunette tied the tie on her bikini bottoms, the phone began to ring. Ava walked to her bed, sat down, and picked up the phone.
"Duncan residence, Ava speaking." Ava smiled
"Hey hon, please tell me you're picking me up." Ali smiled as she finished backing her beach bag.
"Ali, you have the most bitchin' car in all of the San Fernando Valley. You have a freaking mercedes. You should be picking me up. I have an impala. I know what you're doing, you know the rules, no one but me drives it, as it was mom's, but nice try." Ava said as she put on her flip flops
"I know, but you know I hate driving after dark, and you have the best mixtapes. Pretty please, Ava?" Ali pleaded
Ava rolled her eyes and chuckled. "Fine, but bring extra towels. I don't want sand in Baby."
"Baby? You gave the impala a name? You're joking right?" Ali teased
"Oh shut up, before I change my mind." Ava laughed. "You better be ready, slow poke. I'll see you in 15."
"Oh please, you know I'm always ready, it's always you who's taking forever." Ali laughed
"Fair point." Ava laughed. "I'll see you soon. Love you."
"Okay, love you too!" Ali smiled. "Bye!"
"Bye! See you then!" Ava smiled

Freya and Elijah were sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast and drinking coffee, as Ava walked into the living room and set her beach bag on the couch, then walked into the kitchen.
"Morning." Ava smiled as she walked to the fridge to pour herself a glass of orange juice
"Good morning gorgeous." Freya smiled as she set her fork down. "Want some breakfast?"
"Oh, no thank you." Ava smiled as she joined her aunt and uncle at the table. "I'm about to leave to go get Ali and we're meeting the girls at the beach for a beach party. It's sort of an audios summer thing."
"Well, just be safe and have a good time." Freya smiled as she sipped her coffee. "So Bobby called... again."
Ava rolled her eyes at the mere mention of her former friend's name. "I have nothing to say to him. He's happy with his life, I'm happy with mine."
"Didn't sound that way when he called." Freya said as she sipped her coffee. "Aparently he's been trying to talk to you all summer."
Ava rolled her eyes. "Aunt Freya, he made a choice when he ditched me for those no good street punks he runs around with now, one of those happens to be my best friend's ex-boyfriend."
"I have to say, I agree with Ava in this matter." Elijah said as he set the newspaper down, and sipped his coffee
"Well, before the mood gets melancholy, I have to go pick up Ali. I'll see you both tonight." Ava smiled as she embraced her aunt and uncle
"Bye sweetheart." Elijah smiled as he embraced his niece
"Bye gorgeous." Freya smiled as she embraced her niece, then kissed her temple. "Have fun and be safe."

On the beach, Ava and Ali, as well as their other friends, Susan and Barbara, sat down in the sand watching the waves, and listened to Ali's radio.
As the four girls were chatting and listening to Ali's radio, a tall, tan skinned boy, with beautiful brown eyes and his friends from Reseda, who were playing soccer, ran past the girls kicking the ball, causing sand to get on the girls.
Ava and Ali were watching them, when they heard one them call his name Daniel, but he ignored them. Daniel and Ali's eyes locked and the two stared at each other. The ball was kicked away, leaving Daniel to stare at Ali, who smiled up at him and her eyes twinkled.
The ball came out of nowhere and landed in Ali's lap. She threw the ball to Daniel, who started juggling the ball with his knees, she was duly impressed.
Susan and Barbara left to go swimming, leaving the two best friends to watch Daniel. One of the boys kicked the ball away from him and took off.
Ali turned to her best friend. "Wanna go swimming?"
Ava smiled and nodded. "I thought you would never ask."
As Ava and Ali stood up, Daniel and Ali locked eyes again, but he smiled and awkwardly waved at her. The blonde smiled and waved back as she and her best friend walked towards the ocean, then looked over her shoulder one last time at Daniel, and Ava began to tease her best friend.
"Someone has a crush." Ava teased
Ali blushed a bright red. Ava turned to look and saw Daniel watching after her best friend in a dazed state before running back to his friends.
After hours of swimming, the sun had set, and the fog had started to roll in. The girls put their clothes on over their bathing suits. They also had their own campfires going to keep them warm, all while listening to Ali's radio.
While Susan and Barbara were chatting and roasting marshmallows over the fire, Ali kept exchanging glances with Daniel. Ava and Ali were having a conversation of their own, but she was mainly focused on Daniel.
"You should go talk to him." Ava suggested
"I don't know, what if he doesn't like me back?" Ali asked, rather unsure. "What if he's like he's like Johnny?"
Ava glanced at the boy her best friend had been admiring, and saw he was admiring her in return. Giving the blonde a warm smile, she softly reassured, "Nah, I don't think so. He seems to be really sweet. You never know unless you take a chance."
The blonde considered it, but it looked like Daniel's friends had the same idea. One of the boys kicked the soccer ball over to them and knocked Ali's radio over, and the two best friends just laughed
"Well here's your chance." Ava chuckled as she gave her best friend the soccer ball
Ali grabbed the ball and looked at Ava. "Come with me?"
Ava gave her best friend a smile and a nod. Ali, with the soccer ball in her hand, and Ava walked to Daniel as he walked to them. "Hey did you lose something?" Ali asked with a smile, as Ava stood close beside her
"Yeah, I hope we're not bothering you." Daniel said
"Hey, how do you um, how do you juggle?" Ali asked as she tried to juggle the soccer ball
"Oh, it's pretty easy. It's uh, you just...I start with my knee." Daniel said as he juggled the soccer ball and Ali and Ava watched him. "You just go one...One at a time. One. And then you try two. One, two."
Daniel handed Ali the soccer ball. "You guys try. Three, four."
"Four." Ali laughed, making Ava laugh as well.
"Try it. Just bring your leg up." Daniel said. Ali brought her leg up to juggle, Ava smiled as Ali gave the soccer ball to her, and she juggled it as well. "Good!" Daniel praised
Ava didn't realize the beach party was about to take a nasty turn, and a certain cobra was about to strike, maybe even two. But things were about to change. Forever.

Overlapping shouts were heard as Bobby and his best friends parked their bikes on the hill, while Ali and Daniel continued flirting with each other on the beach. The boys were laughing and cheering as they were talking about their karate practice. They all wore matching leather jackets, with snake patches on it, and drove motorcycles.
"Alright!" Tommy and Bobby shouted excitedly
"That was awesome." Johnny happily shouted
"Brew time, man! Who's for a warm one? Here you go." Tommy said as he offered a beer to Johnny
"No, I pass man." Johnny said declining the beer
Tommy offered Bobby a beer. "Hey Bobby?"
"No, thanks pal." Bobby said as he declined the beer
"Johnny, who you kidding? You're still the ace degenerate." Tommy said as he gave the beer to Jimmy
"No, ex-degenerate man. 8am tomorrow, I'm a senior, I got one year to make it all work, and that's what I'm gonna do." Johnny said. "Make it work, all of it, right?" he added while facing Bobby
"That's right man." Bobby said as he and Johnny slapped a supportive five
"Hey you must be a trendsetter Johnny, looks like everyone's doing something new." Tommy said as he looked toward the beach and saw Daniel and Ali with each other.
Johnny turned to face Tommy, while still grinning widely. "What?"
"Take a right. Check it out." Tommy said
Johnny and the Cobra Kais saw Ali and Daniel juggling the ball, and saw her trip, which caused them both to fall, and laughing in the sand, which ignited pure jealousy in Johnny.
Bobby, however, saw Ava with one of her friends from Reseda. What seemed to hit him hard, was the beautiful brunette laughed at something he said, while they watched Ali and Daniel. It was something Bobby really didn't want to see, especially since she had been avoiding him all summer long, and for good reason.
"Hey Johnny, forget it man. It's ancient history." Bobby said trying to keep Johnny from doing something stupid, while also tamping the lump in his throat, watching his beautiful Ava laugh with someone else. He couldn't handle it
"Who told you man?" Johnny snapped angrily.
"Johnny!" Bobby warned as Johnny put his helmet on
"Hey man, I thought they broke up?" Jimmy said
"She did. He didn't." Tommy said.
While Ali and Daniel were still flirting and juggling with the ball, she and Ava heard revving up the hill. Ali, with the soccer ball in her hand turned her head to see motorbikes of the Cobra Kais.
"Watch this." Ali said as she kicked the ball away.
"I'll get it." Daniel said as he went to grab the soccer ball
Ali walked back to sit with Susan and Barbara as Ava stood in front of Daniel to give him a warning. "Hey Daniel, I heard them say your name, but I think it's best if you stay with Freddy and your friends."
Daniel gave the brunette a look of confusion as he went to collect the ball, and the Cobra Kais parked their bikes on the beach, spraying sand every where.
Bobby got off his bike and went to walk to Ava, but she rolled her eyes at him and sat close beside her best friend, while looking over her shoulder, giving him the look of pure hatred, something that still cut him like a knife.
Susan stood up and walked to Tommy, while Ava, Ali, and Barbara stayed seated. "Hey, Ali, I wanna talk to you." Johnny said as he sat down in front of Ali.
Ali rolled her eyes as she scooted close to Ava and retorted angrily. "Oh, just leave me alone. We've been over all this all right, I don't want to talk."
Johnny was starting to get annoyed and he shut off Ali's radio. Ava had heard about Johnny, that he was sweet and kind to Ali at first, then he became cocky and arrogant, and from everything she heard, she hated him, especially since he and his little friends, and the Cobra Kai dojo turned her ex-best friend into a monster, and he missed her best friend's birthday because he was drunk. "Well I wanna talk to you all right?" he said. Ali reached over and turned it back on. "What is your problem?" he asked as he reached over and turned the radio off again
Ali grabbed her radio, and Ava's hand, and then stood up. "Look, why don't you take your little Cobra Kais, and just get out of here, all right?"
"Oh yeah right and that's gonna solve everything." Johnny said as he aggressively grabbed the radio from Ali's hand
Ali huffed with irritation as she replied "Give me my radio." she tried to grab it, but Johnny dodged her grasp. "No." Johnny hissed, gripping the radio. "I said give me my radio!" Ali said, growing more and more irritated
"You promise you'll talk to me?" Johnny asked. "Yes, just give me my radio." Ali said. "You promise?" Johnny said. "Yes, just give me my radio, yes." Ali said.
Ali snatched the radio from Johnny's hand, glared at him, and turned it back on, making him get even angrier. He snatched the radio out of her hand and slammed it on the ground, causing it to break.
"You just broke my radio!" Ali yelled as she shoved Johnny back
"Yeah." Johnny answered smugly.
Standing beside Ali, a brave Ava told Johnny, "You're an asshole." the brunette's face contorted with anger
Johnny turned to Ava, the one he and his friends had heard so much about from their best friend, and even saw at the movie theatre, and he smirked at her. In the midst of it all, Daniel came to pick up the radio and give it to Ali.
"Don't touch it punk!" Johnny shouted at Daniel, but he ignored the blonde, and picked up the radio anyway. "What-what are you deaf?" he shouted at Daniel while angrily snatching the radio from him
"What's going on?" Daniel questioned
"You want it? You got it!" Johnny said as he shoved Ali's broken radio into Daniel's chest and pushed him into the sand
"All right!" The Cobra Kais cheered
Johnny pushed Ali into Tommy and Dutch, who held her securely, and Bobby grabbed Ava and held on to her waist, as Johnny got into fighting stance.
"Let me go!" Ava spat, as she tried to get out of Bobby's grip
"I'm sorry, Ava. I can't." Bobby said as he kept a firm grip on her waist
Ava looked up at her ex-best friend, and angrily retorted "Can't or won't?" she turned her attention back to Johnny who had tripped Daniel
"Johnny, stop it will you?! Leave him! Stop it!" Ali screamed at Johnny.
"Stop it!" Ava spat as she tried getting out of her ex-best friend's grip
"Stop it!" Ali screamed at Johnny again
Johnny looked at the two best friends with a cocky smirk. "I didn't do anything!"
"Well he didn't do anything either!" Ali yelled
"Bullshit if you didn't do anything! Leave him alone!" Ava yelled as Daniel got up, only for Johnny to taunt Daniel, and kick him again, then knock him to the ground
"Oh, you're a big man now huh?" Ali retorted and Johnny snapped his head over to her
"Look, you started this! All I wanted to do was talk to you!" Johnny snapped angrily
"Then just leave him alone and we'll go talk." Ali pleaded. "C'mon Johnny!"
"Yeah, where did I hear that before?" Johnny said sarcastically, then walked to Daniel who was slumped over. "How about you, hero? you had enough?"
Daniel sucker punched Johnny in the nose and stood up, only for Ali and Ava to turn their heads away. "Okay. Okay, man. Now we're even, huh." Daniel said.
"No mercy, man. No mercy." Johnny said
"No mercy!" The Cobra Kais repeated
Johnny kicked Daniel in the stomach and jab punched him in the face. Ali was furious, screaming and red in the face. "Let go of me!" she screamed
Ali grabbed Johnny by the jacket and punched him in the chest. "Why don't you hit me, huh?! You think you're gonna make me feel better, huh?!"
"It's your fault!" Johnny said
"It's not my fault!" Ali spat
"It's your fault!" Johnny said
"Everything is your fault! Why do you have to always fight, huh?!" Ali screamed
"Bullshit." Johnny snapped
Bobby let Ava go, and for the first time in a long time, their eyes actually met. "Ava, I'm so sorry." Although, he wasn't apologizing about the fight, he was apologizing about everything else.
Ava just nodded. "Well, I better get back to Ali."
"Get on your bikes guys." Johnny said while looking at the Cobra Kais.
"You better go." Ava said, as she tamped the lump in her throat.
Before Bobby could say anything, Ava walked away, but she saw the bleach blonde, whom she remembered Barbara say his name was Dutch, say, "Far out, man" and gave Johnny a low five, and Ali hit Johnny again.
Ava looked at the fallen boy lying on the ground, coughing and spitting out sand. Ali slowly approached him and kneeled next to him.
"Hey are you okay?" Ali asked
"Just leave me alone." Daniel said
"Uh, just...I'll-I'll help you...." Ali said
"No, just leave me alone. I'm okay." Daniel said. "Just leave me alone."
Ava placed her hand on Ali's shoulder then spoke. "C'mon on Ali, let's go. C'mon on its best if we leave him alone, hon."
Ali looked at her best friend, nodded and rose to her feet. As Ava wrapped an arm around the blonde's shoulder, the Cobra Kais started their motorbikes.
"C'mon. C'mon Ali let's go." Ava said as she led her best friend away. At that same time, the Cobra Kais rode off, completely destroying Ali's radio in the process

Ava walked in the house, closing the door behind her, and found Freya and Elijah sitting in the living room drinking cocktails in the company of Rebecca and Marcel.
"Hey everyone." Ava smiled
"Hi sweetheart, how was the beach party?" Elijah asked as he set his cocktail down on the coffee table
"Did you have a good time?" Marcel asked as he set his cocktail down.
Ava sighed as she set her beach bag down on the couch, then took a seat beside her Freya and Rebecca. "Oh, it was...interesting."
Freya furrowed her brows. "What do you mean?"
Ava chuckled as she ran a hand through her long brunette hair. "Well, it was good, but Ali met this new kid, Daniel. He showed us how to juggle the soccer ball on our knees, but it was mainly her."
"Anything happen between them?" Rebecca questioned.
Ava shook her head no. "Bobby and his pack of Cobra Kai assholes came and crashed the party. Johnny, Ali's ex, broke Ali's radio."
"I'm assuming you and Bobby didn't talk?" Freya asked as she finished her cocktail
"No. I was going to, but then I looked into his eyes, and I was reminded of everything he did to me." Ava said. "But anyway, I'm gonna shower, and I'm headed off to bed. Love you guys."
"Love you too, sweetheart."

Bobby, Johnny, Tommy, Dutch, and Jimmy drove up to the secluded part of Encino after the fight. They sat around, drinking beers and talking about a few girls they saw at the beach.
Bobby, however, remained silent as he kept thinking about Ava. He thought about the way she looked in that two piece, and even the look of hatred she gave him, which is something that truly stung, as the only thing he wants to do is make things right, and be with her again. He was stupid for abandoning her and leaving her completely alone, especially after Klaus and Diana were killed.
Jimmy noticed how quiet Bobby was being, so he gently nudged him. "Hey, you all right, man?"
"Yeah, I'm all right." Bobby said. "Just lost in thought."
"You good? You've been quiet since we left the beach. What are you thinking about?" Tommy asked
"He's probably thinking about Ava." Dutch said as he took a hit of his joint.
"Do you have to say her name like that?" Bobby questioned.
"Like what?" Dutch questioned. He's never been the sharpest knife in the box.
Bobby rolled his eyes in annoyance. "So plainly, then take a hit of your joint. She's my everything and more. She always has been. I made a mistake treating her the way I did."
"Look, I'm sure if you explain why, she'll understand." Jimmy reassured.
"There's only one problem." Bobby said as he opened another beer. "She won't talk to me. She fucking hates my guts. You saw that at the movie theatre, did you not? You guys didn't know me back then, but she always defended me and I never appreciated it, I took her for granted. At Mr. and Mrs. Duncan's funeral, I heard her sobbing, I wanted nothing more than to make it all go away for her. You guys have no idea how special that girl is to me."
"As far as I know, she doesn't hate any of us, what if we try to talk to her for you? Or have her talk to you?" Dutch suggested
Bobby rolled his eyes at the suggestion. "No thank you, I think I can handle it."
"Yeah, you've been trying to do that all summer and how's that been going?" Dutch questioned, and Bobby was silent. "Yeah, that's what we thought."
"Leave one of those cheesy notes in her locker that say something like meet me at whatever spot and you both talk, scream at each other, yell at each other, do whatever you have to do. But she deserves to know the truth. You owe her that much. No one asked you to leave her in the dust. That was all on you." Tommy said
Bobby nodded his head as his thoughts wondered to Ava, who is always on his mind, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. "It'll be okay, man." Johnny reassured. "You'll get her back."
