( EMMELINE KINGSLEY )

-ˏˋ♥̩͙♥̩̩̥͙♥̩̥̩ ⑅ ⑅ ♥̩̥̩♥̩̩̥͙♥̩͙ˊ

♥*♡∞:。.𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋. the place emmeline kingsley would be spending the next four years if she didn't end up dying in some freak monster accident. her older brother, garret was leaning on the outside of their car that their father had hired to drive them around. he was busy working on the incredible hulk and barely had time for his children. emmeline sat on her iphone in the back of the sleek black vehicle blowing up her marlenes phone with messages. marlene rhodes, daughter of apollo, they had been bestfriends from the moment emmeline stepped foot into camp half-blood.

a knock on the window besides her made her jump in her seat, turning her head to see her brothers big grin as he stared at his little sister. garret was a year older than her and was starting his sophmore year so he didn't have the first day jitters like his sister. emmeline fixed her hair in her phones camera, although there was no need considering her appearance was always to perfection. perk of being aphrodite's daughter.

in a way her and garret and all of their maternal half-siblings were blessed. their hair, makeup and clothes were always the best and always kept them looking like they just stepped off a runway. emmeline didn't mind though, she was always used to looking perfect for the public because of her father. although, the pink glow she attained after being claimed at nine wasn't the nicest. she felt like a walking glow stick for those four days.

"come on, em. you're going to be late" garret didn't even have school to get to today but showed up because the football team were practicing all day. bummer. the blonde sighed out before grabbing her backpack and pushing her hair so it sat in front of her shoulders before exiting the car.

at the front of the school stood a man with salt-and-pepper hair, denim clothes, and leather jacket. he didn't look like a teacher. but then again, emmeline didn't look like the child of a goddess. "i'll see you tomorrow, just make sure you get to camp safe tomorrow" the boy said before kissing her forehead and running off to the side entrance of the school.

after orientation she was meant to be seeing a movie with percy and annabeth. her bestfriend and her cousin. she couldn't tell if it was her or annabeth who was third- wheeling but she really hoped it was annabeth and not her. and then she was expected to get to camp tomorrow morning with percy and his mum.

emmeline was about to walk to the front of the school but she saw a sudden head of red hair. very bright curly red hair. it looked just like the girl she and percy had ran into a few months ago. fuck. luck only seemed to be on the gods side. so she opted for the second choice, the side entrance of the school.

her white matte heels clicked against the concrete floor as she tried to make sure her silverish blonde hair didn't get in her eyes. new york weather wasn't always the best but she wanted to make a good impression on her first day and opted for a mid-thigh denim skirt and white button cardigan. she slowed down her steps after hearing a painfully familiar voice. percy?

"oh, percy jackson," she definitely didn't recognise that voice "we've been waiting for you." or that one. percy had always been a trouble magnet, it was one of the main reasons emmeline was so curious about him in the first place. she hurried her steps and came to see the boys back and two cheerleaders in front of him. their smiles dropped as they saw the blonde before large smiles took over.

"another kingsley?" the darker one with wild curly hair like medusa's asked. percy turnt abruptly at this to face the blonde, he had never been more relived to see her. that was probably a lie. percy was always quite relieved whenever he saw emmeline.

"she looks just like garret" a blonde with icy blue eyes giggled "you can just go straight through" she said cheerily. the way she was treating emmeline was so different to how she was treating percy.

emmeline smiled tightly before moving to percys side, her grip on the handle of her backpack becoming tighter. "let's go, perc" she said to the boy, but her attention was still directed towards the two cheerleaders.

"percy?" a male voice from inside the school called. it was the man from the front of the school. how did he know percy now? percys hand gripped emmeline's wrist quickly as he dragged them past the cheerleaders. he accidentally ended up kneeing the curly haired one in the thigh and the sound her leg made nearly stopped emmeline's heart for a second. metal.

"watch it, fish" they laughed as percy hurried up. emmeline gave the boy a confused look at the name but didn't say anything else. she knew percy would tell her later, he told her everything. he dragged the girl over to the man who held a large smile on his handsome face.

"there you are!" the man said to the two. "welcome to goode!" he gestured to the halls around them before turning his attention to emmeline "who's this? your girlfriend?" the man smirked as he gave percy a look.

emmeline felt her cheeks heat up at the comment and was about to answer but percy beat her straight to the punch-line. and what he said was the equivalence of punching her in the gut "no never! this is emmeline, my friend"

maybe there was never a chance of percy liking her back, sure. but he didn't need to say it like that. anyone would be lucky enough to date her she thought. she was the daughter of aphrodite for zeus' sake.

"paul blofis, english teacher" the man introduced himself sticking his hand out to emmeline which she shook happily. percy was looking around anxiously and if emmeline didn't know him as well she as she did she'd think he'd just seen a ghost.

paul clapped percy on the back. "listen, i know you're nervous, but don't worry. we get a lot of kids here with adhd and dyslexia. the teachers know how to help." he tried comforting percy. emmeline's attention was brought to the entrance of the school where the curly haired redhead was entering. and as luck be has it she noticed percy and emmeline and seemed just as anxious as percy now.

"where's the orientation?" percy suddenly asked paul, the man looking behind him to see what percy was looking at to see a head of red hair rushing away.

"in the hall, but-" he was cut off as percy suddenly wrapped an arm around emmeline's shoulders and began running with the girl in the direction of the gym.

"percy?" they could hear the man call but they kept running. emmeline thought percy was being quite rude but didn't say anything considering they were far away now.

𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞- 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 were all crammed in the bleachers, a marching band played an out-of-tune song, older kids, probably student council members, stood up front modelling the school uniform. teachers lingered around, smiling and shaking hands with students. the walls of the gym were plastered with big purpleand-white banners that said WELCOME FUTURE FRESHMEN, GOODE IS GOOD, WE'RE ALL FAMILY, and a bunch of other happy slogans.

emmeline glanced around the hall to see no one else looked like they wanted to be there. she caught a few girls giving her jealous stares because of all the boys giving her lustful looks. she just rolled her eyes at this and ignored them as she scooted closer to percy.

"percy?" she whispered lowly trying to grab the boys attention, he slightly turnt to look at her and tried smiling comfortingly "try and relax" she said as she squeezed his hand. the blue eyed boy didn't know what to do as she held his hand and just nodded before awkwardly pulling it out. it wasn't his fault, emmeline was pretty and pretty girls made him nervous. no matter how long he'd known her.

the marching band stopped playing. a guy in a pinstripe suit came to the microphone and started talking, but the sound echoed around the gym so it was quite hard for the people at the back to her. emmeline and percy both felt a hand on their shoulders before a girl popped her head in-between theirs.

"what are you doing here?" it was the redhead. now that emmeline had a closer look at her, she was very pretty she noted. soft features, forest green eyes, freckles, and perfectly coiled red locks.

"rachel elizabeth dare" percy said as he looked at the girl. emmeline wondered why he knew her name considering she didn't remember her telling them when they saw eachother. she hated herself for feeling like this but she couldn't stop herself when it came to percy. even if he didn't feel the same way.

"her jaw dropped like she couldn't believe he remembered her name. "and you're emmeline kingsley and percy somebody. i didn't get your full name last december when you tried to kill me." she said as she tilted her head in recognition and remembrance of the incident.

"how'd you know my last name?" emmeline asked as she scrunched her eyebrows and pursed her lips. she could feel her cherry red lipstick start to soften from the heat in the hall. rachel gave her an 'are you serious look?'

"you're dads famous, and so are you!" she exclaimed the last part making a few students turn their heads to give the trio strange looks. emmeline nodded appreciatively.

"you live in new york?" emmeline asked the girl, the redhead now having moved down to sit in between the two demi-gods. it was like percy wasn't even there anymore as emmeline and rachel fell into a conversation.

"what, you thought i lived at the hoover dam?" rachel laughed as if the idea was completely absurd. emmeline hadn't thought of the redhead living anywhere else. they had met for ten minutes, percy tried to kill her, she saved them and then her and percy ran like hell for their lives. typical chance meeting.

the two's conversation was interrupted by some lanky brown haired boy with glasses behind them "hey, shut up. the cheerleaders are talking!" his voice had barely reached puberty.

the two girls shut up and turnt their attention to the front, emmeline and percy noticed they were the cheerleaders who cornered percy. the one with the metallic leg.

"hi, guys!" the girl bubbled into the microphone "my name is tammi, and this is like, kelli." kelli did a cartwheel.

next to the two demi-gods, rachel yelped like someone had stuck her with a pin. a few kids looked over and snickered, but stopped quickly when emmeline turned to glare at them. rachel just stared at the cheerleaders in horror. tammi didn't seem to notice the outburst. she started talking about all the great ways we could get involved during their freshman year.

" run" rachel whispered turning between the two "now" she urged. the redhead grabbed her backpack and stood up waiting for the blonde and blue eyed boy to copy her actions.

"why?" emmeline asked but stood up grabbing her bag aswell, percy stayed sat and just stared at the two with confused eyes. rachel didn't explain. she pushed her way to the edge of the bleachers, ignoring the frowning teachers and grumbling kids she was stepping on.

emmeline looked between rachel and percy with contemplating eyes, percy seemed to be contemplating in his head aswell. but when kelli met percys eyes and smiled it was enough for him to get up and grab emmeline's hand, letting the blonde drag him off the bleachers, their fingers intertwining on the way.

"can't believe we're following a girl we don't even know" percy grumbled but didn't slow his steps down, emmeline smiled to herself before turning to the boy.

"i followed you after knowing you for an hour. no different" she chuckled thinking back to the first day she met percy at camp half- blood. it felt like it was just yesterday. but she knew it was far away from yesterday.

"that's different" percy tried arguing as they began to walk down the hallways, not knowing where rachel ran off to. their hands still intertwined and their sides close. hand- holding wasn't that important in the moment.

"and now look, we're closer than cousins" emmeline smiled, the reference making her internally laugh. percy gave her an unamused look before putting his arm out in front of her to stop their walking. at the end of the hall they could see a door being opened and rachels red hair rushing in.

"let's go" percy said forgetting their previous conversation and pulling emmeline along. the girls white heels becoming louder the quicker their walked. percy gave her a quick scolding look before she rolled her eyes. "really?" he asked referring to her heels

"they looked nice" she shrugged as if that was a valid reason. which it was in her mind. the two entered the room and could see rachel hiding behind a bass drum. so this was the band room.

"get over here!" rachel said. "keep your head down!" the two demi-gods didn't say anything as they crouched beside the girl. "did they follow you? the cheerleaders?" she asked looking above the drums nervously.

"pretty sure they didn't" emmeline answered as her and percy shared a look.

rachels green eyes were bright with fear. "you...you wouldn't believe me." percy let out a breathy laugh at this, that being the exact thing he said to grover when he met the satyr.

"oh, yeah, we would," he promised. "i know you can see through the mist." emmeline hit the boys arm at the way he was just revealing things now. he was potentially putting their world at risk and emmeline couldn't afford this. even if he was destined to save them.

"the what?" rachel asked confused as she looked between emmeline and percy as if they were crazy

"the mist. it's...well, it's like this veil that hides the way things really are. some mortals are born with the ability to see through it. like you." percy explained earning another hit from emmeline, the boy still ignoring her.

rachel began to study percy carefully. "you did that at hoover dam. you called me a mortal. like you guys aren't." there was no going back now emmeline thought. may aswell tell her about centaurs at this point.

"well you see, we're not exactly" emmeline laughed nervously, percy now being the one to hit her arm, although not as hard as she was hitting his.

"tell me," rachel begged. "you know what it means. all these horrible things I see?" she begged, she really looked desperate. emmeline would be aswell if she saw what rachel was seeing without knowing anything that was going on.

"look, this is going to sound weird. do you know anything about greek myths?" percy asked nervously as he began to twiddle with his thumbs. something he usually did when nervous.

"like...the minotaur and the hydra?" emmeline's eyes widened as she considered slapping a hand over rachels mouth to shut her up.

"yeah, just try not to say those names when we're around, okay?" percy said urgently as she began bouncing on the spot.

"and the furies," she said, warming up. "and the sirens, and-" emmeline didn't hesitate this time as she slapped a perfectly manicured hand over the girls mouth. she slowly removed it after feeling rachels mouth stop moving.

"okay!" percy looked around the band hall, sure that rachel was going to make a bunch of bloodthirsty nasties pop out of the walls; but we were still alone. down the hallway, they heard a mob of kids coming out of the gymnasium. they were starting the group tours. the trio didn't have much longer to talk.

"all those monsters," i said, "all the greek gods-they're real." rachel said quite excitedly before her excitement started to fade into terror "i knew it!"

percy looked like he would've been more comfortable if she'd called him a liar, but rachel looked like they'd just confirmed her worst suspicion.

"you don't know how hard it's been," she said. "for years I thought i was going crazy. i couldn't tell anybody. i couldn't-" her eyes narrowed in on the two. "wait. who are you guys? i mean really?" emmeline and percy shared a look.

"i'm not a monster" percy defended himself before turning to quickly glance at emmeline "and neither's emmeline. furthest thing from it, trust me" the boy reassured as emmeline felt herself begin to smile at his words.

"well, i know that. i could see if you were. you look like...you. but you're not humans, are you?"
percy gulped. emmeline had never told a mortal what she was, her father knew of course that she wasn't mortal and she had been promised to never reveal what she was in the fear of being hunted.

"we're half-bloods," percy said. "we're half human." he said for the two. emmeline felt her hands become sweaty as she pursed her lips, scared for how rachel would react.

"and half what?" the redhead asked hesitantly not knowing what else the two could be. she only hoped it wasn't something too bad.

just then tammi and kelli stepped into the band room. the doors slammed shut behind them.
"there you are, percy jackson," tammi said. "it's time for your orientation."

"oh fucking hell" emmeline swore to herself as she threw her backpack off her shoulder. she guessed the two didn't know that she was also a demi-god and hoped to keep it that way considering it would also keep garret safe.

"they're horrible!" rachel gasped as she stared horrified at the two teenager girls who stood in their purple-and-white cheerleader costumes, holding pom-poms from the rally.

"what do they really look like?" percy asked, but rachel seemed too stunned to answer. emmeline felt truly sorry for the girl knowing she'd have surely gone insane.

"oh, forget her." tammi gave a brilliant smile and started walking toward the trio. kelli stayed by the doors, blocking the exit.

they'd trapped the trio. emmeline knew they'd have to fight their way out but percy seemed too distracted to even focus on fighting. he was staring at tammi like she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen.

but she wasn't. because emmeline was the most beautiful girl percy had ever seen. he'd never tell her that though. it would be his little secret he'd take to the grave he promised himself.

"percy," rachel warned, she began to shake the boys bicep trying to snap him out of it.

and what did percy do. he said something really intelligent, "uhhh?" sometimes emmeline wondered why she stayed friends with the boy. then she would always have to remind herself, she was in love with him.

tammi was getting closer. she held out her pom-poms "percy!" rachel's voice seemed to be coming from a long way away. "snap out of it!" before emmeline could do something percy pulled his pen out of his pocket and uncapped it, letting it grow into the three-foot-long bronze sword. tammi's smile turning into a sneer.

"oh, come on," she protested. "you don't need that. how about a kiss instead?" as she got closer, emmeline began to smell roses and clean animal- fur. it made her nostrils burn but was weirdly satisfying.

"no, no, no. no way" emmeline protested the blondes words as she moved in front of percy. even if the boy was the one with the sword, emmeline had her mothers jealousy and in the moment it was definitely a good enough reason to kill the blonde cheerleader.

rachel pinched percys arm, hard. "percy, she wants to bite you! look at her!" the redhead tried to reason.

they're just jealous," tammi looked back at kelli. "may i, mistress?" she asked as her tone changed to one of malice intent.

kelli was still blocking the door, licking her lips hungrily. "go ahead, tammi. you're doing fine." kelli smiled .

tammi took another step forward towards emmeline, and apparently this was enough to snap percy back into reality. "get back." he threatened moving in front of his blonde bestfriend quickly.

tammi snarled. "freshmen," she said with disgust. "this is our school, half-blood. we feed on whom we choose!" vampires?

then she began to change. the color drained out of her face and arms. her skin turned as white as chalk, her eyes completely red. Her teeth grew into fangs. emmeline prayed they weren't vampires.

"a vampire!" percy stammered. then the trio noticed her legs. below the cheerleader skirt, her left leg was brown and shaggy with a donkey's hoof. her right leg was shaped like a human leg, but it was made of bronze. "uhh, a vampire with-" percy was cut off from a whisper of realisation from emmeline.

"empousa. they're empousa's!" the blonde repeated only louder this time, tammi and kelli shared wicked smirks at the girls words, confirming her theory.

"mmmm." tammi edged closer to me. "dark magic formed us from animal, bronze, and ghost! we exist to feed on the blood of young men. now come, give me that kiss!" she began stalking forward.

as she bared her fangs, percy froze again. it was like they had the stare of a siren or the voice of aphrodite's children. emmeline pushed the boy back and walked forward towards the empousai.

"what about girls? you know i swing both ways if you're up for it" she joked before rachel threw a snare drum at the empousais head making emmeline duck.

the demon hissed and batted the drum away. it went rolling along the aisles between music stands, its springs rattling against the drumhead. rachel threw a xylophone to emmeline which she tried to throw at the demon, but the demon just swatted that away, too.

"i don't usually kill girls," tammi growled. "but for you, mortals, i'll make an exception. your eyesight is a little too good, and you're just annoying!" she lunged at emmeline.

"no!" percy slashed with his sword. tammi tried to dodge the blade, but it sliced straight through her cheerleader uniform, and with a horrible wail she exploded into dust all over emmeline.

emmeline coughed and she looked down at her now dusty cardigan and shoes. she looked like she'd just had a sack of grey flour dumped on her head. "percy!" she squeaked. the son of poseidon felt a bit more scared of the daughter of aphrodite than the blood- thirsty demon in front of them.

"it was going to eat you!" he defended himself. "sorry." rachel looked between the two with confused and wide eyes wondering how they found time to argue when their life's were on the line.

"you killed my trainee!" kelli yelled. "you need a lesson in school spirit, half-blood!" then she too began to change. her wiry hair turned into flickering flames. her eyes turned red. she grew fangs. she loped toward the trio, her brass foot and hoof clopping unevenly on the band-room floor.

"i am senior empousai," she growled. "no hero has bested me in a thousand years." this made emmeline laugh to herself quietly.

"then you haven't met percy yet" the girl said before seeing percy smile to himself and running to rachels side. she knew percy could handle himself, and the defenceless redhead was more important right now.

kelli was a lot faster than tammi. she dodged the first strike and rolled into the brass section, knocking over a row of trombones with a mighty crash. rachel and emmeline scrambled out of the way. percy put himself between them and the empousai. kelli circled him, her eyes going from him to the sword.

"such a pretty little blade," she taunted. "what a shame it stands between us." her form shimmered-sometimes a demon, sometimes a pretty cheerleader. percy tried to keep my mind focused, by thinking of protecting emmeline. but it was really distracting.

"poor dear." kelli chuckled. "you don't even know what's happening, do you? soon, your pretty little camp in flames, your friends made slaves to the lord of time, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. It would be merciful to end your life now, before you have to see that." from down the hall, voices could be heard. a tour group was approaching. a man was saying something about locker combinations.

the empousa's eyes lit up. "excellent! we're about to have company!" this couldn't end well emmeline told herself.

the demon picked up a tuba and threw it at percy. percy and the girls ducked making the tuba go straight through the window behind them. the voices in the hall died down.

"percy!" kelli shouted, pretending to be scared, "why did you throw that?" this bitch. emmeline knew what she was doing and it was too late to stop her plan. kelli picked up a music stand and swiped a row of clarinets and flutes. chairs and musical instruments crashed to the floor.

"stop it!" emmeline screamed as she tried to rush towards the empousai but percys free hand flung out to grab hers stopping her from getting hurt. people were tromping down the hall now, coming in their direction.

"time to greet our visitors!" kelli bared her fangs and ran for the doors. percy charged after her with his sword. he was only trying to stop her from hurting the students. luck was really never on the demi-gods side

"percy, don't!" rachel shouted as kelli flung open the doors. paul blofis and a bunch of freshmen stepped back in shock. percy raised his sword. at the last second, the empousa turned towards him like a cowering victim.

"oh no, please!" she cried. he couldn't stop his blade once it set into motion. just before the celestial bronze hit her, kelli exploded into flames like a molotov cocktail. waves of fire splashed over everything. emmeline had never seen a monster do that before, but she didn't have time to wonder about it. percy backed into the band room as the flames engulfed the doorway.

"percy?" paul blofis looked completely stunned, staring at him from across the fire. "what have you done?" he asked horrified.

kids screamed and ran down the hall. the fire alarm wailed. ceiling sprinklers hissed to life.
in the chaos, emmeline tugged on percys sleeve. "we have to get out of here!" she urged as she tried dragging him back into the band room.

she was right. the school was in flames and percy would be held responsible. mortals couldn't see through the mist properly. to them it would look like he'd just attacked a helpless cheerleader in front of a group of witnesses. there was no way he could explain it. percy turnt and dragged emmeline to the broken window in the band room helping the girl out before launching himself out.

"run!" rachel yelled to the two, but her voice was distant now as they sprinted for their lives away from goode high school.
