There, standing in the corner of my room was none other than Anna herself.
I gasped, "H-how?" I stuttered. There was a bright yellow light surrounding her making her look like a goddess. She was wearing a long shimmering white dress. She looked beautiful. Anna had always been beautiful despite her being forty-three years old but right now she looked ethereal.
"Y-you were dead!"
She smiled at that, "I still am, Kath." She said in the same kind voice that I had gotten used to during all these years. "I fear I don't have much time, so listen to me clearly. The Gods have forbidden me from telling you everything but there are some important things that you need to know."
"What things?" I said still in shock from the fact she was here.
"You are the chosen one."
What?
"Chosen One?"
"Yes, the chosen one." She said and then added, shaking her head,
Her figure slowly started fading along with the light around her."Now listen to me! Don't trust him."
"Don't trust who? Enzo? Cause I already don't trust that bastard."
She shook her head almost violently, "No not him. Of course not him, silly. I can't tell you who it is, the Gods forbid me." She started fading more. She suddenly walked up to me, her face worried.
Suddenly a book appeared in her hand. I looked at the book with a questioning gaze. Wordlessly, she handed the book to me.
Whoa, slow down there.
"What do I do with this?" I said opening the book but her hand flew out and stopped mine before I could.
"Don't!" She hissed. "Don't open this right now. Open this only when the time is right."
"And when is that?"
"You will know."
Ooookay...weird.
"I have something else too." She said and a familiar pendant with an Amethyst stone attached to it appeared in her hand.
I stood up abruptly at seeing that.
"This..." I started.
"Yes, you're right this your mother's. She asked me to give it to you."
"My mother! Where is she?! I want to see her."
"You can't. The Gods are angry with her and have sent her to Karamona."
I cried out at that. Karamona is a prison on the other side made for those who have done terribly wrong things.
"Why is my mother there?"
"I don't know, I'm sorry." She said, her voice rimmed with sadness. Her hands came up around my neck, for a moment I thought she was gonna choke me but then I realized how absurd that thought was and she was just putting the pendant around my neck.
I fingered the pendant, it was so light yet so heavy. It felt like hundreds of huge rocks were set on top of me, crushing me.
"Why did she give this to me?" I said looking down at it. It felt weird wearing two pendants at one time but I couldn't take either of them off.
"She only told me that this will keep you safe."
"I see."
"I love you, Katherine, stay safe." I felt a hand stroke my cheek but when I looked up there was no one and I realized that Anna was gone.
It was like she was never even here and it was all a dream. If it weren't for the pendant and the book, I would have believed that it was a dream.
I plopped down on the bed and suddenly heard a groan. I immediately stood up with a yelp. Where had this voice come from?
"Your ass almost killed me." I heard a strange voice and gave a shriek.
"Who is it there!" I looked around the room trying to locate where the voice was coming from.
"Look here dumbass." I heard the same strange voice again and....it was coming from the book.
I literally heard my jaw hit the floor.
"Y-you..." I said pointing at the book.
"Close your mouth you don't want a fly to get inside now, do you?"
I closed my mouth abruptly.
"You're speaking!"
"No shit."
The book wasn't even moving...
"HOW?!"
"Stop screaming, woman. I can listen to you perfectly well."
"Shut up and answer my question!"
"My name is Aperus. A witch had created me two million years ago for reasons that I can't tell you."
"How can you talk tho?"
"I just can."
Wow, so much helpful.
"And why has Anna given you to me?"
"Because you are the chosen one." Again that chosen one crap. "And don't you dare act dumb cause I know that you know that you are chosen one, just don't know why you are the chosen one." He added.
But I don't....
"Well, enlighten me!"
"I can't. Gods forbid me."
"The Gods can go and suck it up!" I yelled causing Aperus to gasp.
"Shut up, girl! Do you wanna die?"
I rolled my eyes at that.
"I'm going to sleep."
My eyes went wide a little, "You sleep too?"
"Of course I do! I'm a human after all."
"But you're a-"
"I said I am a human so I am a human!" He said cutting me off, his tone angry.
"Ugh, whatever." I picked the book up and put it in the second drawer of my nightstand a very little bit harshly. I smirked when I heard a groan.
I plopped down on my bed and snuggle my head into the pillow. I try to sleep but it just wouldn't come. There were huge storms of memories from my past swirling around my mind keeping me wide awake. The information had been a lot for me to take that was obvious.
I grasp my mother's pendant and I can swear that I felt it warm up in my hand relaxing my mind a little. I had first seen this necklace when I was four. Suddenly the memory started replaying in my head:
The room lit up with a bright flash of lightning, and thunder rattled the windowpane making Katherine wake up with a jolt.
It's raining, again. Katherine thought and walked towards the window and opened it. The misty breeze made her red knee-length hair flow wild around in every direction and her face dampen. She giggled and ran outside the room to call her mother.
"Katherine, darling, where are you going?" Her maid, Alissa asked kindly.
"Mommy. Do you know where she is?"
"She must be in her room," Alissa said and Katherine sprinted away mouthing a quick thank you. Alissa called out her name but she was long gone, her nightgown flared behind her making her look like a princess running down the stairs in a Disney movie. The thought made her giggle.
She abruptly came to a stop in front of her parent's room. She knocked once. No reply. Twice. No reply. She started to get suspicious and opened the door by herself but found no one in her room.
"Mommy, daddy anyone there?" She asked, her voice echoing, making her smile. Mommy must be in the basement. Katherine thought and walked towards the basement. The basement was where her mother mostly was. Every type of spellbook and ancient witchy stuff which Katherine was not allowed near was there.
After crossing halls after halls, she finally reached the basement but to her disappointment, no one was there. Suddenly, thunder rumbled making her jump. She was about to leave but something caught her eye making her stop dead in her tracks.
There was a box placed on the table beside some books. There was a small light shining from inside the box. Curious, she made her way near the box. Every instinct in her body was screaming for her to leave, but there was something so enticing about the box that she could not resist.
She opened the box with shaky fingers and gasped at what she found inside. It was a pendant. And there was a purple stone attached to the pendant. Amethyst she remembered with a jolt is what the stone is called. But it was not only that, she realized. There was a bright light shining out of the stone.
She reached out to touch the stone, "Katherine!" She jumped away from the pendant and looked at where the voice was coming from, there she saw her mother, Elizabeth standing with her hands on her hips and her eyes narrowed. "What are you doing, Katherine? How many times have I told you not to come here?"
"How many times have I come here?" She asked, grinning cheekily.
"Ten as long as I remember, why?"
"You have asked me not to come here ten times, then." She said and winked at her mother.
"Being smart are we?" Her mother narrowed her eyes at her trying to appear angry but the wide smile that broke its way on her mouth betrayed the angry look.
Elizabeth ran towards her daughter, picked her up and started tickling her. Katherine screamed and laughed loudly, thrashing in her mother's hold.
"Mommyyyy!" Katherine half whined half laughed.
Her mother stopped tickling her and showered her face with kisses. Katherine giggled as her mother pecked her everywhere. Lips, eyelids, nose, cheeks and hands. Elizabeth stopped kissing her daughter and looked at her, tucking Katherine's hair behind her eyes.
"I love you so much, you know that right?"
"I don't know..." Katherine mused, "Can I have a bowl of chocolate ice cream?" Her eyes filled with hope.
"Yes, you can," Elizabeth said laughing.
A full smile bloomed upon her daughter's mouth. "I love, love, love, love you!" She hugged her mother tightly.
Katherine looked at the pendant one last time before letting her mother pick her up and carry her to the kitchen where her dad was.
I wasn't aware of the tears that had already soaked my face wet.
Soon, I had dozed off into a dreamless sleep.
