          ˙ ˖ ✩ ━━ LUCY AND PETER are destined for one another, and everyone seems to know it but them. the pair have been best friends for almost as long as they can remember. from birthday parties and playground mishaps to school dances and slumber parties. through thick or thin, night or day, and right or wrong . . . the two were there for each other. they were inseparable ━━ like how a flower can't survive without the sun.

in all honestly, being with one another was like watching flowers bloom. like seeing the sun for the first time. like laying on the grass on a fresh day during springtime. like getting bathed in sunlight and letting your soul open up and take in every inch it's warmth. peter was like her sun, and lucy was his world. the two completed each other.

and, of course, that's how totally, truly, completely, platonic friendships are supposed to feel . . . right?

as learned in science class, a flower can't thrive without the sun, and lucy had to learn that the hard way. their friendship changed the day that blooming, pubescent boys began to take notice of her. or more specifically, matthew simon king.

rumors stated that he was a walking red flag. and boy, lucy had to have been color blind based on the way she saw right past them. or maybe color didn't have anything to do with it? because the evidence was right under her nose. all she had to do was pay attention and read the fine print before signing, sealing, and delivering herself to him ( practically with a stamp on! ). she might as well have signed her name in her own blood, because matthew king had gained total control over her the day she started dating him. he forced her away from peter and her friends, and made all of her moments his own.

lucy wasn't sure what love was, but she did know that it wasn't always peaches and cream. being with matthew wasn't easy. however, there were so many moments where she believed that love should not have to be this hard. for almost three years straight, the two would break up and make up. and in those short time periods when she wasn't with him, lucy would try to find other guys to make her feel wanted. but to them, she was only good for sex and popularity.

so in the end, she would always crawl back to matthew king. even if he was barely any better then the rest of the boys who she had messed around with. because he manipulated her into a state of mind where she believed that this life was the best one for her.

her friends always wondered why she still stayed with him after all this time. maybe it was because she was trying to find the love she wasn't getting at home. maybe it was because she was used to this type of relationship.

she was used to her mom being emotionally distant from her. so when she left, it was no surprise. and now that she's back, she still waits for the day she'll up and leave again. she was used to her step father being mentally abusive and cruel. so when he took advantage of her in the same physical way the boys at school did, it was just another crack in her wretched heart she had to strive to repair. so even if matthew's antics weren't okay "sometimes", at least she had someone who wanted her. so the reoccurring tears had to be worth it.

since matthew pulled lucy away from peter, he wasn't aware of how bad things were. so when he witnessed an encounter where matthew almost hit her in the face and left lucy in a fit of tears afterwards, peter was determined to make his way back into her life. he was determined to be that sun again and shine light on her world. he was determined to let her blossom with happiness again. he was determined to let her find joy by coming to love and accept herself, and get rid of the harmful weeds around her.

he was determined to help her bloom . . . or at least, bloom later!
