amara peters lived in the apartment above barry and iris, she'd lived there since before they'd moved in. she thought that she was living a good life; she worked as a nurse at central city hospital, she'd been in a relationship for 3 years & her goldfish was still alive. to those who knew the truth, it wasn't so great. her boyfriend, todd, was abusive. it had been like that for 2 years, the relationship had started off so well with only petty bickering here and there. it progressed into bad fights, mostly verbal but it had turned physical before and amara was sure it would again. over and over again. todd swears it'll never happen and that he's so sorry and amara believes him, every time.

NOTES ON AMARA!
⤷ for this plot a lot of research would have to be done on the nature of abusive relationships and the effects they would have on the victim.
⤷ amara is uncomfortable around affection and flinches easily, she doesn't like loud noises and often wears clothes that cover a lot of her skin.
⤷ this plot should not be romanticised in any way, it's okay to give amara a love interest but it would have to be nearer to the end of the book or not at all.
⤷ barry and iris begin hearing the noises, the bangs and crashes and shouting and crying and begin to ask amara about it.
⤷ she's very closed off towards them, especially barry for fear of how todd would react to a possible friendship between them.
⤷ this is based off of the song 'must have been the wind' by alec benjamin so that should provide some inspiration for the plot.
⤷ 'crybaby' by paloma faith is also a good song for inspiration.
⤷ search online for things like; characteristics of someone in an abusive relationship, stories from people who were in abusive relationships, etc.
