Mei'lu loved the ocean. not only because of it's beauty, but because of the secrets it held within. She admired the ocean, she only wished she could be as free as it.
The ocean was repetitive and free to do as it pleases, the water was never afraid. The sea was more welcoming to Mei'lu than her parents, maybe that was why the ocean had become her friend.
NEWCOMERS
Mei'lu enjoyed the feeling of the sun on her, along with the calm waves crashing against her body. Soaking in the moments of the water as she closed her eyes and took in this feeling.
At the loss of the bright, warm sun, Mei'lu's eyes snap open to see animals she weren't familar with in the air. She hears the sound of the horns and quickly dives underneath the water to swim back to the island. She knows that whoever it is, was going to land in Awa'atlu. Curiously making her way through the crowd she's met with what she assumes is a family. She walks to her own, who are standing on the other side of the crowd. Mei'lu walked through with confidence, not caring when she shoves past one of her cousins friends.
She gestures 'i see you' to her aunt Ronal and uncle Tonowari, along with her parents. Mei'lu's brothers come to stand next to her. She takes a moment to look at the new family. It was obvious they were not apart of the Metkayina clan, their dark blue skin standing out in the crowd of her clan. She looks at them one by one and feels eyes buring into the side of her face.
She turns her focus to where it was coming from and she see's a boy who looks to be no younger than her. The boy continued to stare at the Mei'lu, not phased that she had caught him. The girl eyes the boy whilst her younger brother It'ey grabs onto her hand, obviously wary of the new family.
The crowd around them gasps as Ronal annouces that they have 'demon' blood. She softly squeezed her her brothers hand in reassurance, telling him that he was okay. She did not know this family, but Mei'lu did not want her brother feeling scared.
"My husband was Toruk Makto, he lead the clans to victory against the sky people" The girls eyes widen at this, having no idea that the Toruk Makto was standing right in front of her. The one she has heard stories about for years.
"This you call victory? Hiding amongst strangers? It seems Eywa has turned her back on you chosen one." Wincing at her aunts words, Mei'lu watches carefully at the scene. The two mothers baring their teeth at one another and the fathers doing absolutely nothing to stop it. Toruk Makto apologizes for his mate, which she doesn't seem to like but she eventually backs down. Tonowari tells him that we are not at war and they can not bring their war to us. "I am done with war, I just want to keep my family safe".
The words make the leader think for a minute, he silently pleads his mate, feeling sympathy for the newcomers and she reluctantly gives in.
"Toruk Makto and his family will stay with us. You will treat them as our brothers and sisters. They do not know the sea so they will be like babies taking their first breaths. Teach them the way, so they will not suffer with the shame of being usless." The teen girl makes eye contact with her cousin Ao'nung, giving him a look that says 'what the fuck'. Mei'lu truly did not think that her uncle was going to give in.
"My son Ao'nung and daughter Tsireya will teach your children the ways." The look on Ao'nungs face made her smirk, but that was quickly washed away as her Mother spoke up.
"Mei'lu will help too. Only if she is needed of course." Ayn'at speaks up and it makes the daughter internally roll her eyes. "Mother." She speaks through gritted teeth, making the Sully's glance her way.
"It is decided." Tur'itan, her father speaks. It was now Ao'nung who was grinning like a child, and Mei'lu didn't hesitate to shoulder check him on her way out of the crowd. The action made her parents sigh.
Tsireya quickly follows after her cousin, gesturing the Sully's to do the same. It'ey and the youngest daughter already seemed to be getting along as they were jumping up and down on the pathway, and soon enough they made it to the new family's marui.
"This is where you all will be staying. I hope it is not too small."
The father is quick to reassure the girl, telling Tsireya that it is perfect, though it is not very convincing as the mother drops her mat on the floor with a loud exhale.
Mei'lu takes this as a sign to leave and gently grabs a hold of her best friends arm. She gets the hint and tells them that if they need any help, they could ask either of the girls. Which gets her the side eye.
"It'ey, come on." The girl tells her brother who is still playing with the little girl. The boy quickly follows after his sister and asks to be picked up, and Mei'lu couldn't say no to her brother.
She gently picks him up and continues her way back to their families marui.
