CHAPTER TEN:
QUALIFY
"SO, IT'S OFFICIAL, HUH?" CELESTE questioned, adjusting the phone on her ear. She continuously glanced at the time to make sure she wasn't late for her meet up with Evelyn and Peggy, and Bucky had no clue what the angel was planning, and neither did Evelyn's brother.
"Well, I was approved." Bucky answered on the other end of the line. "But it's not official until I get my orders."
"Right. Orders." Celeste sighed, almost cringing at the word. "Hey, I have to go meet Peggy, but we'll talk when I get back home?"
"Of course. Have fun." She smiled at his words before hanging up and quickly making her way from her home and to the place she would meet up with Peggy, Evelyn already standing there. She stood beside Evelyn, offering her a small smile before they stood there, waiting on the woman. Celeste could see anxiousness fill Evelyn's face the longer they stood there, and the smallest of smiles fell on her face.
She had glanced at the book, the one that told her of things that were to happen, and this was something that hadn't been in there, not until that morning, and the outcome of it made her heart happy for Evelyn. She knew that her orders were to protect Bucky, and at the same time not grow close to the humans, but quite frankly she had broken that rule as soon as she ran into Peggy, and she couldn't help herself.
That's when she saw Peggy enter with a dark red dress on her body. She watched the woman look around before their eyes met and a smile fell on the woman's face. She made her way over to the two blondes, heels clicking against the floor as she grew closer, stopping right in front of the duo.
"Celeste." Peggy greeted.
"Peggy, how are you?" The two women were quick to hug and Celeste could practically feel Evelyn's eyes as she looked at Peggy Carter. She pulled away from the hug with a smile of amusement falling on her lips as she glanced towards Evelyn. "Evelyn, this is my friend Peggy Carter. Peggy, this is Evelyn Rogers."
Peggy nodded towards Evelyn before holding out her hand, "Lovely to meet you, Evelyn."
Evelyn looked at the woman before quickly clearing her throat and shaking her hand. "You as well, Peggy." That's when they took their seats with Celeste and Evelyn sitting across from Peggy. They ordered their drinks, waiting for them to come before they started talking.
Peggy was the one to ignite the conversation. "There must've been a reason you asked me here besides talking over coffee." She cocked her head slightly and Celeste nodded her head in agreement. Peggy knew her too well.
"There is." Celeste answered, glancing towards Evelyn before looking back towards Peggy. "I know you're with the army." Peggy nodded her head, taking a sip of her drink. "Her brother and best friend are wanting to join. . . so do we. We just wanted to know if there was any possible way that you could help us out. Get us in, or something?"
"I don't know, Celeste. . ." Peggy trailed with a sigh.
"Please, Peggy. I know that it's a lot to ask. Just tell us what we have to do."
"Well, you have to qualify." Peggy stated the obvious. "But not like those men. You need to qualify in the sense that you know what you're doing, and you don't need anyone to look after you."
Celeste glanced towards Evelyn whose eyes were sorely on Peggy. She knew that Evelyn was thinking about everything, what exactly she was thinking about was something Celeste could not answer, because being a mind reader was not one of the power you received as an angel. There was moment of silence before Evelyn finally nodded her head. "Fine, whatever it takes."
Peggy raised an eyebrow in slight surprise at Evelyn sudden determination that had filled her voice. Celeste sat there, watching as Peggy met Evelyn's eyes and a smile made it's way onto the brunette's face before she nodded her head and looked back towards Celeste. "You know how to reach me. Whenever you're ready to join, just inform me. I'll be there."
Celeste smiled in relief. "Thank you, Peggy."
She nodded her head in response. "Of course." Celeste watched Peggy glance towards Evelyn before focusing her attention on both of the women. "I must be going. We'll be in touch, I hope?"
"Absolutely." Celeste nodded in agreement.
Peggy stood up from the table, offering Celeste a small friendly smile before looking towards Evelyn. "It was lovely meeting you, Evelyn."
"You as well, Peggy." Evelyn quickly answered before the two watched her walk away. Celeste picked up her drink, taking a sip of it to hide the smirk that fell on her features. She wanted to say something, but she wouldn't in fear of interfering with Evelyn's happiness. So instead, she sat her drink down, pushed her hair off of her shoulders and turned to look towards Evelyn.
"We'll need to train." Celeste told her, grabbing Evelyn's attention. Evelyn furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, a small frown falling on her features.
"Train? What do you mean?"
Celeste smiled and chuckled in amusement, remembering that Evelyn thought that she was this sweet innocent human when really she was a rebellious angel and the one who was best in her angel training. "Oh, Evelyn. I hate to say it, but I'm not like the women around here in these parts. In fact, I'd like to say I'm not seen as a lady like person because I know how to defend myself. That's what I mean by train."
"You're going to teach me how to defend myself?" Evelyn questioned, cocking an eyebrow at the woman. Evelyn could already protect herself as it was, but Celeste was going to improve that side of her by a lot. A whole lot.
"That and so much more." She almost felt bad for what she was going to make the girl go through, but if anyone could do it, it would be Evelyn Rogers. She looked towards the blonde before standing up with Evelyn following her actions. She cocked her head slightly before asking, "You trust me, don't you Evelyn?"
"More than anything." Evelyn was quick to answer.
"Good." Celeste smiled. She turned on her heel and started walking away, stopping briefly long enough to glance back towards Evelyn to say, "Your training starts now. And it doesn't end until I say so." And with that she walked out of the cafรฉ with Evelyn not too far behind her.
