THIRTYONE|COLD

His silver eyes sparked with sadness.
For a pregnant moment it seemed as though even the air around us held its breath. I couldn't move, I couldn't speak. Even if I could I didn't know what I would say.

Sometimes silence is the best answer.
His usually stony countenance was crumbling, walls falling down the reveal the hurt underneath.

The air left my lungs leaving me running on empty, I tried to focus on the burning in my chest rather than the pain in my heart. Why did I feel this way?

He closed the distance between us, wrapping his strong arms around me. "I thought you were dead." In that moment nothing else mattered. A dull burn settled wherever he touched, I ignored it. "We all did." For a second I was frozen, but soon my body relaxed into his. I couldn't help but think that I fit to his chest so perfectly. The dull burn was slowly growing, simmering and growing hotter and hotter by the second.

What was going on?

The cold air shocked me back to reality when he let me go, my heart ached for the absence of his warmth, though glad for the missing fire.

"I can take her from here. Thank you Theos." Greyson nodded to the mountain of a man.
Though, seeing them so close together Greyson was probably the same height, I guess I never saw him as much a threat so his size never mattered.
He must've been atleast 6'4.

He dwarfed my average 5'7 frame, making me feel like a baby in the palm of a giant.

I was ushered toward a black car, someone already sat in the passenger side.
Reality dawning on me was a horrid feeling. How had I been so feeble minded. The last time I had seen Greyson was that night with Noah..
All I remembered from that night were picture like snapshots.

Whiskey. Kiss. Greyson.

A horrid series of mistakes.
And now Greyson has come to take me back.
He was probably one of them too, a beast.

I pulled away from him with a deep frown on my face, he stopped, staring at me in confusion.

I worked up every bit of courage I could muster, I heard when I was young that you were never supposed to look a dangerous dog in the eye, in a way, that was exactly what I was doing. I already knew the answer deep down, I just needed confirmation.

"What are you?"

His eyes scanned my face, he looked at me as though I were a puzzle he just couldn't figure out. "You know." He deadpanned. "You've seen it for yourself."

"I haven't seen you.." I blurted.

He frowned. "Do you want to?"

A nod was the only response I could give. He grabbed my hand, a full fire shocked my fingertips when his skin touched mine, a flame ignited, vile red flames scorched my skin. He dropped my hand as though it were poisoned. "What the fuck?" I gasped, clutching my hand tight against my chest.

He ignored me, instead carrying on toward the dense wall of leaves.

Yet it made me think of the one person I was dreading seeing again... Noah.

He lead me into the forest, to a small clearing. Wind danced through the bronze tipped branches, leaves falling to the floor like emerald tears, a carpet of golden leaves crunched under our feet.

He stepped back a couple of paces, into the centre of the clearing, his piercing eyes like glowing grey stone never once left mine, not even as his bones began to crack.

Skin turned to thick ash grey fur, bones broke and reformed to that of another. He was no longer Greyson... he was a beast, a monster.

It seemed to go on forever, the symphony of agonising cracks and tearing of muscle and sinew. I wanted to run, but my legs were firmly planted to the floor. I willed myself to run, but I couldn't.

Him. It was the thought of him that held me there, because as much as I hated to admit, deep down I trusted Greyson.

The creature that stood before me looked at me through deep, meaningful eyes. His eyes.

He was beautiful. I didn't think as I stepped closer, holding out a hand to ghost his thick grey fur. I scanned him, for any sort of aggression, there was none so I decided to take the plunge, expecting to feel fire between my fingertips.

Tentatively I ran a hand along his smooth coat, the impossibly smooth fur like silk between my fingertips. Nothing, but a dull buzz. A deep rumble reverberated from within his chest, the very ground shook with his power.

Maybe the shock hadn't really set in yet, or maybe it was that I just didn't care anymore. All my life I had lived without the knowledge of this whole other world.

"You can come back now." I whispered, savouring the last touches of his fur.

He vanished into the woodland, more vicious cracks followed by silence then footsteps. Human footsteps.

I kept my eyes down, focusing instead of fiddling with the hem of my shirt.

"Look at me."
Everything about him commanded power, he was the embodiment of dominant. It rolled off of him in thick, lush waves, even his scent was intoxicating. Pine, cedar and something distinctly male.

I dragged my eyes up to meet his. My face flushed red with scarlet embarrassment, he was very much naked. I had accidentally caught a glance of his... member, I hadn't meant to! Though you couldn't exactly miss it.

No. I shouldn't be thinking such lustful things. I absentmindedly bit my lip as he pulled on a pair of dark grey sweat pants, his sharp stare followed the action, his body tensing, every muscle growing rigid with the effort to control himself. He looked like a man on the edge.

I didn't dare look any lower that his chest, hard, solid and muscles enough to light a flame deep within my core.

"Show me." He deadpanned.

Nerves are away at the pit of my stomach, what did he expect from me, I shifted awkwardly, "Show you what?"

Ice cold eyes felt as though they were staring into my soul. "The bite."

Carefully, I pulled my shirt away from my shoulder to reveal the raging red wound.

The mask of austerity was gone, a chink in his armour to reveal the pure horror and shock beneath. "Shit..."

"What?" I frowned, what did he know that I didn't? "What does it mean?"

"It's all my fault." He mumbled, dragging his hands through his hair and turning his back to me. "It's all my fucking fault."

"Greyson, what's wro-"
There was an almighty crack as he threw a fist into the nearest tree.

"What are you doing!" I cried. "Stop!" As he threw another tree toppling.

"Don't you understand!" He roared, I stumbled back as his glowing grey eyes locked onto mine. "You're dying."
