"What's got you in a good mood?" Caroline took a seat next to Damon, who was sat up with a smile plastered on his face.

"Stefan's taken Mia for a driving lesson," he snickered "I'm waiting for them to come back."

As if on cue, the two vampires walked through the front door, Mia smiling brightly whilst Stefan was looking rather drained.

"So, how was it?" Damon smirked, noticing his brother's expression.

"Amazing," Mia bounced happily as she walked, "A total success."

"I wouldn't say a total success," Stefan interjected, "She ran like 5 stop signs."

"I totally paused," Mia argued, she thanked Damon who'd just handed her a glass of bourbon.

"And she almost hit a deer."

"It came out of no where," she defended, "Look on the bright side, if I hit it then it could've been your lunch."

Stefan shook his head, grinning, "I'm never taking you again, Damon can do it next time."

"Hard pass, I think being trapped in the tomb made Stefan grumpy." Mia sat on Caroline's lap, "Besides, I don't need to be able to drive, my Carebear can take me everywhere."

"Yeah, like the bottom of Wickery Bridge," Damon taunted.

Wrapping her arms around Mia, Caroline used a hand to block Damon from their sight "Shut up, jerk. I'm a great driver and yes, I can take you anywhere you want." Damon launched a pillow at the girls, hitting Mia square in the face.

"You dick!" Mia screamed, it shot back in his direction and he dodged it. "Don't you have anything better to do, go annoy Elena or something."

"I can't, her daddy dearest is back in town." John Gilbert had returned to Mystic Falls, Stefan was looking for Isobel but he'd found John instead. He believed that John would know how to deal with their Original problem. In the last few weeks the group had a new threat to deal with, it started when Katherine had come back into town looking for a moonstone. It was later revealed that she was dating Mason Lockwood, who was soon killed by Damon, much to Mia's dismay as she claimed that the Lockwood man was "too pretty to die".

Then, on the night of the masquerade ball where they had all planned to kill Katherine, a Bennett witch named Lucy had linked the doppelgangers' lives together. That same night Elena was kidnapped by Mia and Lexi's old friend Rose Marie, Elena was being used to buy the freedom of Rose and her friend Trevor, from Elijah and Klaus. Elijah was an Original vampire, one of the first vampire in existence, he announced that Elena was to be used in a sacrifice in order to break the Sun and Moon curse.

This Sun and Moon curse was known to be an Aztec curse casted 1000 years earlier by a shaman. This curse was placed on vampires and werewolves, ensuring that vampires couldn't go into the sun without daylight rings and that werewolves could only turn on a full moon. If a werewolf broke the curse then their species would be able to turn at will and if a vampire broke it they would be able to bask in the sunlight without the rings.

The spell was casted using the blood of a Petrova doppelganger Tatia, which meant that in order to break the curse the blood of a living doppelganger was needed, meaning Elena would have to die. The Gilbert girl was more than ready to sacrifice herself under the condition that none of her friends or family would be harmed, Elijah gave her his word that he would uphold these conditions, Elijah was working on behalf of Klaus who wanted to break the curse. The group's worry was increased tremendously when Rose had told them that Klaus was a lot more fierce and merciless than Elijah and they were dreading his arrival to Mystic Falls, which was yet to happen.

Bonnie had made an acquaintance with Luka and his father Jonas who were witches, or warlocks as they liked to call themselves. The Bennett witch was determined to keep Elena safe so she sought out their help in destroying the stone, however it was unveiled that they were working for Elijah and now had custody of the moonstone. This is what lead to Stefan calling John as he was left with no other choice and was certain that John knew the means to kill an Original vampire.

"Mia," Damon whispered, waving her over. "I need to tell you something." She'd obliged but just before he could open his mouth Stefan charged into the room.

"What the hell were you thinking, Damon!?" he yelled.

Mia moved between the brothers, "What's wrong Stef?"

"Do you know what he did?" Mia shook her head, "Elijah has to go abroad, he says it urgent but he didn't trust that we weren't gonna turn Elena whilst he was gone so he wanted to take her too."

"So Elena's gone?" Mia quizzed, her breathing quickened as she became concerned about the doppelganger "I just spoke to her this morning and she didn't mention anything about this."

"No, don't worry, she isn't gone." he placed his hands on her shoulders as his mind searched for the best way to break the news, "Damon managed to convince Elijah to leave her but he stills wants insurance."

"Insurance?" she tilted her head, "What do you mean? What does he want?"

"You," Damon blurted out.

"What!" her eyes widened in shock, "Why me?!"

"Well, I said he could take you instead of Elena." Damon reached for her hand but Mia pulled it back. "And he agreed because he knows how much you mean to us."

"Yeah, I must mean so much to you," she said, sarcasm dripping from her tone, "That you didn't even think twice before using me as a bargaining chip."

"Please don't be mad. Look, I'm sorry, I know it was a shitty thing to do. I mean, I'm the one who told you to stay away from Elijah in the first place and now I basically handed you over."

Mia's eyes softened as she saw the regret etched on his face and she tried to reason with herself. It was obvious that if it came down to the two Petrovas Damon would choose Elena, especially because he had known her longer and was in love with her. "I'm not mad Damon," she held his hand "I'm just hurt that you didn't at least discuss it with me."

"You don't have to go if you don't want to," Stefan spoke up, "Screw Elijah, it's not worth it if you're in danger."

"None of this will be worth it if Elena is in danger," Mia responded, "She needs to be here, with you guys, safe. And if that means I have to go with Elijah then that's something I'm willing to do. For her and for everyone that she put on that list." Elena had given a list of the people she wanted protecting before and after the sacrifice takes place.

"Are you sure about this?" Stefan asked.

"I'm sure," she nodded, she wasn't keen on the situation but if it ensured Elena's safety then it was beneficial, "When do I leave?"

"I just got a call from one of Elijah's little minions, telling me to get your things ready. You're leaving tonight."

~~~~
"I hate that I have to go now," Mia complained, packing her suitcase "I should be here for Care, especially after what she went through today." Caroline had been kidnapped and tortured by Jules, one of Mason's werewolf friend.
"She'll be fine," Damon reassured, "Bonnie and Elena are with her." He rifled through her draw and found a black bikini set, "Ooh, you might wanna take this, give Elijah something to smile about."
"When I said help me I meant carry my bags later, not go through my things," she snatched it from his hand but decided to pack it anyway. "I have no idea where we're even going, like am I meant to pack for warm weather or cold?" she began to stress, causing her to ramble, "And how long are we going for? I haven't even met Elijah yet and now I'm just meant to go away with him. I've never been on a plane before either, what if we crash in the ocean and die?" she threw her clothes down in frustration and concealed her face behind her hands.
Damon's heart twanged with guilt, he was so focussed on protecting Elena that he failed to contemplate how Mia would be affected by the arrangement. "Hey, it's okay" he spoke softly, he grasped her arms and pulled her closer to him, "I'm sorry, if I could take it back...."
"But you can't," she mumbled into his chest, "It's fine, you did what you did for Elena. Better me than her." she sighed, breaking away from the hug. "Is Elijah really that bad?"
"He won't hurt you," he cupped her face in his hands, "You're on Elena's list. Hopefully John decides to be of use then we'll find out how to kill an Original and Elijah will be gone."
"What about Klaus, the other one? Rose said..." she watched as Damon shifted uncomfortably upon hearing that name. He'd gotten close with the girl in the short time they spent together and was devastated about her death, even though he tried not to show it. Mia wasn't easily fooled, after Rose's burial she went to Damon's room and laid with him in silence, holding his hand. The gesture didn't seem that helpful to her but to him it was exactly the comfort he needed at the time, the next day he found himself wanting to be in her presence. He took her to a movie in an attempt to cheer her up, she too was grieving the death of her friend. She'd only met Rose a handful of times but on each occasion the girl left wonderful memories.
"We'll deal with the Klaus problem when we get to it, right now we focus on Elijah. Try to find out everything you can, maybe there's something that can stop this sacrifice." he picked up dress with a low cut neckline, "You should definitely take this," he looked up as she frowned at him with mock anger, "I'll put it in the maybe pile."
After she'd completed her packing, she made Damon carry her luggage to the car. "Are you gonna be okay?" Stefan asked her, enveloping her in a hug. "We can call this whole thing off right now, it's not too late."
"I'll be fine, Stef." she stroked the back of his neck with her thumb, "Take care of yourself and make sure Bonnie is okay. She's been really down since she found out about Luka."
"I will," he pulled away from the hug, keeping hold of both her hands, "Text me when you get there."
"Wherever there is," Mia mused, Stefan gave her a tight-lipped smile. He fought back the urge to tell her to stay, he was worried about her but also concerned about what he would do when she was gone. She'd managed to pull him back from the edge on multiple occasions, the night Elena had broken up with him Mia stayed by his side with a drink and smile. She even joined him on his morning runs and hunting, and would constantly send him texts to check up on him. He feared he would be lost without her. "Be careful, Mia."
"I always am." and with those words she left.
~~~~

"You don't look too happy for someone who's about to go on a private jet," Damon teased as the car stopped, "You'll be fine," he nudged her playfully, "you're tougher than all of us."

"I'm not worried about the trip," Damon furrowed his brows in confusion, "I mean, obviously I'm nervous about it but...."

"But what?"

"There's so much going on at home and-" she started but Damon cut her off.

"Hey, hey, what did I say? Forget about that, all you need to focus on is Elijah." A man with a bowler hat knocked on the car window so Damon rolled it down. "No thanks, we don't buy girl scout cookies."

"I've been sent to collect Miss Petrova's bags," Damon nodded so the man opened the trunk and began to unload it.

"That's your cue," Damon leaned over and pressed a kiss to her cheek, "Try not to run your mouth, we don't need him killing you."

"I'll try," she laughed, getting out of the vehicle "Look after Caroline for me."

"Course, see you later Mia." he waved, "The house is gonna real quiet without you."

"I seriously doubt that, bye D."

"If you could come with me Miss," The man led her to a well furnished lounge, "he will be arriving soon."

Mia's heartbeat quickened as she felt herself growing anxious. Elena told her that Elijah was a really serious man, who detached Trevor's head from his body just by using his hand. Damon described the Original as "a pretentious ass".

Mia looked at her luggage and began to consider running away, she had all the essentials and would easily be able to start a new life, after all she'd already done it once before.

Fuck this. She grabbed two of her suitcases, leaving the rest behind and began walking until she heard a whoosh and bumped into something, someone. She simply looked down, her breathing hitched as a voice spoke. "Leaving so soon Miss Petrova?" she glanced through her eyelashes at the man. It was Elijah, Elena had described him in great detail to Mia because she was convinced the Petrova girl would end up going with the wrong person, he had dark brown eyes, a strong jawline and sharp cheekbones. "Or do you prefer Miss Pierce?"

"Petrova's fine," Mia squeaked, fidgeting with her hands.

He smiled at her thumping heart. "You need not be frightened, I have no intention of harming you. This arrangement is simply to ensure Elena Gilbert and the Salvatore brothers abide by my rules." He gestured to her belongings and the bowler hat man collected them, taking them to the jet. "Shall we?" they made their way to the plane but he stopped at the stairs and stepped back, "After you Miss."

"Thank you," Mia climbed the stairs, then peered over her shoulder at him "You know, you don't have to call me Miss."

"Very well Amelia, as you wish." When they had boarded the plane, Elijah was slightly disappointed to see that Mia decided to sit away from him. However she had not done this with malicious intent, it was simply because she'd never been on a plane before and didn't want him to see her afraid. As the plane took off he watched her as her eyes clamped shut and she gripped onto the armrests, when the plane went through turbulence he could hear her quiet gasps and heavy breathing. She brought her knees to her chest and rested her head down. "Are you quite alright Amelia?" Elijah asked.

"Yeah," her voice muffled against her legs, "I'm fine." He moved seats to be nearer to her and she lifted her head up. "Where are we going?"

"Cordoba," Mia nodded her head slowly, acting as though she knew where that was, "It is in the southern part of Spain." he added upon seeing her expression. As the plane landed, Mia returned to her rigid state, almost convinced that it was going to crash. They had arrived in the late hours of the night so they went straight to their hotel, well Mia thought it was a hotel but it turned out to be luxury apartments.

"Good night Ma'am," the bowler hat man, who's name Mia was still yet to learn, had taken all of her belongings to her room, he'd insisted upon helping her unpack but she assured him she was fine.

Mia began to unpack and she'd come across a box at the bottom of her clothes. She opened it to find a yellow floral dress with a note that read.....

Thought this would look cute on you.

                                                             From Damon.

She looked at the dress, it wasn't her preferred style or colour but it was very pretty. She was almost certain that Damon had picked it out so she would appear more innocent to Elijah. She lay in bed, trying not to think about her friends, unaware of the troubles they were facing back home.

The next morning Elijah had insisted on taking Mia out for breakfast. The two went to a small café in the city. Elijah had ordered in English so Mia assumed that he couldn't speak Spanish. She threw her head back and sighed in bliss whilst Elijah sat adjacent from her, gazing at her glowing figure under the sunlight. "Haven't you ever been abroad Amelia?"

"No," she sat up straight, basking in the feeling of the sun on her skin, "I've never been able to. I lived in Chicago for a while then I moved to Georgia. We stayed there for years, if anyone got suspicious we would just compel them."

"Do tell me if there's somewhere you would like to go, Cordoba is full of beautiful monuments." Elijah became curious, he hadn't met a Petrova that wasn't a doppelganger. It was also his first time meeting Mia, this being because Damon kept her away. So far she'd been quite reserved which he believed was understandable, assuming the Salvatores had advised her to behave as such.

A waiter had approached the table, "Todo es de su agrado senorita?" Is everything to your liking Miss?

As Elijah was about to tell the man that Mia couldn't speak Spanish, the Petrova girl spoke up, "Si, es mas que satisfactorio. Es simplemente maravilloso, muchas gracias." Yes, it's more than satisfactory. It's simply wonderful, thank you so much. The waiter thanked her and left.

"You speak Spanish?" Elijah looked at her in awe, there was a lot more to her than he'd suspected. She had doe like eyes that gave off the impression of innocence and purity but there was also a sparkle in them that suggested something else entirely.

"There's not a lot to do when you're trapped in a house during daylight hours." she dropped her napkin on the ground so she bent down to retrieve it, her breasts pressed against the edge of her dress. as she leant forward. "Except maybe learn a few languages or how to play instrum-"

"I recommend you keep walking while your eyeballs are still in their sockets,"  Mia flinched at the sudden outburst but turned to see a group of teenage boys loitering. Their eyes lingering on Mia's body, from her chest to her upper thigh, that was visible through the high slit in her dress. They all looked at each other, deviance etched on their faces, they were unaware as to who they were dealing with. Elijah stood up from his chair and took a threatening step towards them, fear flashed in their irises causing them to flee. The Original vampire returned to his seat, his lips upturned into a smile "Forgive me for the interruption Amelia." she stayed silent, stunned from what had just occurred, "Please continue."

"I forgot what I was saying." Mia murmured quietly, she felt the blood rush to her cheeks. The manner in which Elijah spoke to them was calm yet laced with risk, if anything it was more frightening than being yelled at. She racked her mind to think of something to say, "I've always wanted to go on the Roman Bridge, I've seen so many paintings of it."

"Then I shall take you," Elijah told her "However it'll have to wait, my presence is required elsewhere this evening."

"Where?"

"A gathering of some sort, a gala being held in the centre of the city. There's someone I need to see, they have extremely valuable information for me."

"Is that why we're here?" Mia tried to soften her voice, not wanting to sound as if she was prying even though she was. She'd been given one job and that was too find out as much information as she could. "Has it got something to do with Klaus?

"Yes, I'm afraid it has everything to do with him. He's taken something from me, something rather valuable and I would like it returned."

"You think he's hidden it here?" Mia questioned, wondering what could hold so much importance that the Original was so desperate to get it back.

"He was last seen in Cordoba  only a matter of weeks ago," Elijah explained, "A gentleman by the name of Alexei Romano contacted me informing that Klaus had met him."

"Well whatever it is I hope you get it back," Mia smiled comfortingly, "It must be really important if it made you leave Mystic Falls."

"It is indeed." Elijah returned the smile, "Would you like to accompany me tonight?"

The offer threw Mia off guard, Elijah was very different than she'd expected him to be. He had no obligation to be polite to Mia yet he was anyway. "I'd love to but...," his expression hardened as he chastised himself for asking, "....I didn't pack anything fancy."

The smile returned to his face and he picked up his glass, "I'll arrange something." he took as sip, maintaining eye contact.

After finishing her hair, Mia looked into the mirror, twirling around happily. One of her favourite things to do was dress up. The dress Elijah had gifted her was beautiful, she was shocked that he managed to find one that suited her style. Her phone began to ring with the name Damon flashing on her screen so she answered it. "Good evening sir," she taunted.

"Well it's still afternoon here." he chuckled, "Are you alone?"

"Yeah, wait one sec." she opened the door, peeping her head out to see if anyone was there, she ducked back into the room "Okay carry on."

"We found something out, turns out there's a dagger that can kill an Original. Well, it can freeze their body but it has to be dipped into this white oak ash."

"Okay.... so what am I meant to do?"

"Try and get him back here so we can use it."

"Oh yeah, that should be easy," she mocked "Not suspicious at all."

"So you'll do it?"

This dumb motherfucker. "Uh no, there's no way I'm doing that. He won't believe me and I don't really want to end up as Trevor 2.0."

"This isn't just about you Mia," he snarled "we're doing this for Elena. Just say that Caroline is in danger and you need to come back and see her."

"No, Damon!" she snapped, "I'm not doing it, he trusts me. And anyways we wouldn't even be able to come back today, we're going to this gala thing."

"So you're out partying while Elena's life is in danger?!" Damon condescended. "Very heroic Miss Mia, well done."

"Fuck you! I didn't even want to come in the first place. It was you who volunteered me instead of Elena so don't give me all that crap acting like you're above me!" she shouted and cut the phone off. Her body began to shake with anger so she took deep breaths trying to control herself. "Asshole, wait til I fucking see him in person." she muttered angrily, smoothening out her dress.

Elijah stood by the front door, waiting for Mia. Unbeknownst to her, he had heard her whole conversation with Damon. He was impressed with the way she held her ground and didn't give in to the older Salvatore Brother, however was confused as to why she did it. As far as she knew, he was one of the reasons Elena was going to die yet she was adamant on keeping his trust. The sounds of heels clicking across the floor broke his thoughts and he turned to see Mia, his gaze fixed on her as his jaw dropped slightly.

His silence began to worry Mia, it caused her to second guess her appearance, making her insecure. "Do I look okay?" she asked timidly.

"You look stunning, Amelia." he took her hand "Don't doubt it for a second."

"Thanks to you," she blushed "you chose a very nice dress."

"I thought this was more fitting to your character than the ..... flowers." he joked.

"You have me all figured out already?" she tilted her head, taking a step closer.

"Partly," he replied, stroking her hand with his thumb, "I believe it is important for us to trust each other, wouldn't you agree?"

"Of course," she smiled "very important."

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation, "Sir, the car has arrived." The bowler hat man informed.

"Thank you Jacob."

Finally, I've been tryna figure out that guy's name for ages.

The car ride was filled with a comfortable silence, Mia spent it looking out the window at the city. She glanced over at Elijah who gave her a warm smile and the coil of guilt in her stomach grew tighter. He'd been nothing but kind to her and she was aiding in a plot to kill him, the fear of what would happen to her if he found out also played on her mind.

They'd gotten out of the car and stood in front of the venue. It was one of the largest houses Mia had ever come across, something straight out of a movie. She watched as people walked in and suddenly felt out of place.

"You look worried." Elijah stated.

"It's that obvious?" she bit the inside of her cheek, "I don't belong with all these fancy people."

"Then you act as though you belong, it's like playing a part," he held his arm out. "Shall we."

Nodding her head at his advice, Mia hooked her arm around his, "We shall." she giggled. They entered the mansion, Mia's eyes widening at the lavish decorations. She compared it to Mount Olympus in her head, believing that it was grand enough for a goddess to reside.

"Elijah, old friend." A middle aged man, with blonde hair approached them, "I'm so glad you could make it. And with your lovely wife too." he pressed a kiss on her hand.

Mia's eyes widened as she tried to hold back a laugh but she chose to go along with it. Before Elijah could speak, she intervened. "Well thank you so much for your invitation," she spoke in a fake British accent and moved closer to Elijah, placing a hand on his chest. "Your home is absolutely gorgeous. We're delighted to be here." The man thanked her and moved on to welcome the other guests. Mia turned to Elijah, who was smirking with an eyebrow raised. "What? It's like you said," she shrugged, "I'm playing a part."

"Very well." he took two glasses of champagne from the table and handed her one. "Then we have no choice but to keep up this ruse for the entire evening."

"If I must," she sighed with mock sadness, resuming her posh British accent, "I can bear this burden for one night."

"Elijah," a voice spoke from behind them, they turned to see a very handsome man. He had tan olive skin, with green eyes and curly dark brown hair. He was accompanied by a woman with similar features. He shook Elijah's hand and faced Mia "Pleasure to meet you Ma'am, Alexei Romano."

"Blair Evans, pleasures all mine." Mia responded, she side eyed Elijah, who was caught off guard with her dedication to the role.

"This is my wife Valeria." he gestured to the woman who gave a bright smile.

Wife? Why do they actually look related though?  She pushed the thought aside and returned the smile.

"Perhaps you ladies would like to get to know one another," Elijah suggested "While we discuss pressing matters." The two men walked away leaving Mia with the woman.

"Um... do you speak Spanish?" the woman asked hesitantly, when Mia nodded she let out a sigh of relief. "Gracias a Dios por eso! Mi ingles no es muy bueno." Thank God for that! My English is not very good.

"Tu esposo habla muy bien ingles," Your husband speaks very good English. Mia responded,"No puedes decir que es su segundo idioma." You can't tell that it's his second language.

Valeria laughed and rolled her eyes, "Ese Alexei para ti, siempre dando lo mejor de si." That's Alexei for you, always trying his best. She leaned in closer "Que hay de tu esposa?" What about your husband? she wiggled her eyebrows. "Como se conocieron?" How did you meet each other?

Valeria reminded Mia so much of Caroline with her cheery disposition and gossipy behaviour. She hesitated, trying to think of a lie, "No es una historia muy interesante, nos conocimos en una fiesta como esta. Me invito a bailar y el resto es historia." Not a very interesting story, we met at a party like this. He asked me to dance and the rest is history.

"Eres muy afortunada," You're very lucky. Valeria brushed her hand against Mia's arm, it was clear that she'd had quite a few drinks that night. "Es mucha mejor que Klaus." He's much nicer than Klaus.

"Si, lo oido muchas veces." Yes, I've heard that a lot. She began to disassociate herself from the conversation, whilst Valeria rambled on.

"Estoy convencido de que su madre comio algo raro cuando estaba embarazada de Klaus." I'm convinced their mother ate something dodgy when she was pregnant with Klaus.

This caught Mia's attention as she whipped her head around to face the intoxicated woman, "Que quieres decir?" What do you mean? Her mind tried to process what she was just told. "Elijah y Klaus son hermanos? Elijah and Klaus are brothers?

"Si, aunque no se puede decir, Klaus es tan diferente al resto de ellos." Yes, you can't tell though, Klaus is so different to the rest of them. She called over a server and took another glass of wine, stumbling as she tried to stand straight.

"What the fuck." Mia whispered in disbelief.
