•Chapter 17: Portals•

After Henry and Violet leave for their little adventure, Sam, Katherine, Austin, and I decide to hang out in my room with Roland and relax for the first time in a long time. While Roland sits in front of the TV, watching cartoons, the rest of us just talk about what has been happening and what we plan to do once everything calms down. Out of nowhere, my phone goes off and I look to see a text from Emma and instantly know I'm about to get an earful.

Emma: Henry sent me this text:

'Mom, there's only one way to fix everything that's tearing us apart. I have to destroy the source of all our problems.'

Where is he?

Me: I left him at your house.

Emma: You didn't stay with him?!

Me: I'm not his babysitter.

Emma: Do you know where he's going?

Me: I know he took a bus.

Emma: Meet us at the loft. Now.

After her final text, I sigh before looking to the everyone, who are all staring back at me.

"Looks like our break's over," I tell them as we all stand up, I then turn to Roland with a smile, "come on, Roland."

When we get to the loft, we see everyone else getting ready to leave.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"Henry's going to destroy magic," Killian tells me.

"We know that," Sam responds.

"I think she means where are you going?" Felix states.

"To warn the town," David answers then we all follow him out the door to the clock tower. Right as we get there, Merida and some of the Merry Men followed by a bigger crowd approach us.

"Is it true?" Merida asks, "magic might disappear?"

"Only if Henry destroys the crystal," Snow explains.

"Which he probably will," Katherine mutters so only our group could hear.

"And he won't," David continues, "not with Emma and Regina searching for him."

"Yeah, but what if they don't find him in time?" Merida questions, "how are we going to get back without magic?"

"It won't be a problem if we send you home now!" Snow exclaims.

"We can send them home?" Austin whispers, "I didn't think we could."

"We?" Zelena questions, "I think you mean me, dear."

"But this time, summon the portal without the twister, okay?" Sam jokes.

"You heroes ruin all the fun," she mumbles then turns to Main Street, "very well."

As soon as she points her wand towards an open space, a door, or portal, appears. Merida says a few words to Katherine then is the first one to approach it then, after a moment's hesitation, walks through. After her, David begins to escort the rest of the crowd through. The Merry Men walk over to us and say their goodbyes to Roland. As they begin to walk through the portal, Little John turns to me.

"Are you sure you can handle looking after Roland?" he asks me.

"I don't know," I sigh as a smile forms on my face while I watch Roland talking with Sam and Felix, "but it's what Robin wanted for him. How can I not do as he requested?"

Little John nods and we share a hug. Once the hug ends, he says his final goodbyes to Roland then walks through the portal. When I walk back over to my group in the shade of the library, I look over to them and study their facial expressions to know exactly what was going on in their heads. As soon as I finish studying their faces, I look back down to Roland as the last of the Merry Men disappear through the portal to see his sadness covered up by courage covers his face as he watches his family disappear.

"Maybe we should go with them," I suggest.

All of them look over to me with shocked expressions covering their faces. Before I had a chance to explain myself, I watch the joy fill each one of their faces with the idea of being able to go back home.

"I think that's a great idea," Felix responds then places a kiss on my cheek.

As they begin to talk amongst one another about my suggestion, I walk over to my parents and Killian stand to tell them the plan, hoping they will go along with it.

"Hey, Everly," David greets, "is everything okay?"

"Yeah, It's just..." I trail off then look back to my group to see them preparing to go through the portal.

"You all wanna go back to the Enchanted Forest," Killian says, "don't you?"

"I can't separate Roland from his family again," I explain, "and the others don't belong here. I don't belong here. We belong were trees cover every inch of land that surrounds us."

"We understand," Snow tells me, "we kinda expected it as soon as Zelena told us she could open the portal."

"You're okay with it?" I question.

"No," David responds, "but we're not going to stop you."

As soon as the words leave his mouth, I pull them all in for a hug as I hold back the tears that are beginning to form. Once we end our hug, my parents place a crystal bean in my hands, causing me to look up at them with shock in my eyes.

"Is this the last one?" I question.

"When you are all ready to come back, all you have to do is throw it to the ground and think of your family," Snow tells me.

"Take this too, Kid," Killian says as he places a small seashell in my hand, "it can be used to communicate across realms."

After giving them each one last hug, I let Sam say his goodbyes to Killian. As the two talk for a minute, I walk back over to where Felix and Roland, who has the biggest smile on his face, stand.

"I can't believe we're doing this," I sigh as I lean into Felix's embrace while Roland leans into my legs as my arm lays on his shoulder.

"It's just another adventure," Felix tells me, "just one where we can have a bit more control over."

A smile forms on my face as Sam joins us once again before we wave a final goodbye at the citizens of Storybrooke then we walk through the portal to the Enchanted Forest, where our new lives will begin.
