The Hill, BTS Apartment

The members were busy decorating the dorm for Namjoon's birthday while Namjoon was in Rkive. Jungkook and Chaeyoung were decorating with balloons while Lisa, Taehyung and Jimin were struggling with the fairy lights.

Yoongi, Jin and Jisoo were busy making the cake while Jennie and Hoseok were ordering dinner from a restaurant. It was a blessing for them that Namjoon decided to work even on his birthday.

"Hey Chae?" Jungkook called her as she was filling up a balloon with air, not from her mouth but a small balloon pump. "Yeah?" she asked as Jungkook looked towards her and asked, "you still can't fill a balloon?"

Chaeyoung rolled her eyes and said, "No, I can't." "Wow a straightforward answer, what happened to Park Chaeyoung?" he mocked her as she replied gravely, "Well a lot of things, starting with you insulting me in ninth grade."

"Why can't you just forget it?" Jungkook groaned for the nth time and Chaeyoung ignored him for the nth time. Jungkook slowly brought a balloon near her and popped it suddenly as Chae flinched.

She was always afraid of balloons popping from her childhood as she fumed and glared at Jungkook. "You are still a child," Jungkook giggled but shut himself up as he met Chaeyoung's gaze.

"Relax, I was kidding," he spoke softly as he quietly went back to filling balloons. The both were filling them up in Jimin and Hoseok's room.

To remove the awkward silence, Jungkook got up and turned on the recording of Taehyung's Christmas Tree. The calming song filled the room as Chaeyoung furrowed her brows, knowing that she had never heard the song.

Immersed in the song Jungkook went to sit on Hoseok's bed, well at least he tried to. But he tripped over Jimin's bedpost and fell on Chaeyoung.

Taehyung's voice played in the background- 'so I tell you a million little things that you have never known, it all gets tangled up inside and I tell you a million tiny reasons I'm falling for your eyes-' as Jungkook was still on Chaeyoung.

Chaeyoung stared back wide-eyed as Jungkook made no intention to move away. He balanced himself by placing his hands on either side of her.

"Move Jungkook," she said in a strange yet soft tone like her voice was controlled by someone else. "Yeah," he said.

But again he made no intention of moving away as he stared into Chaeyoung's eyes. It gave him some very bad memories. This was the same way he had stared at her eyes when he insulted her.

The strong gaze falters later.

Of course, he wasn't in this position when he insulted, he was standing while Chaeyoung was sitting. How he walked up to her in 2014 with a strange confidence.

The music faltered and faded in the background as their breaths mixed and Jungkook slowly got up and walked up to Hoseok's bed.

Again that strange confidence, except now he was walking away from her not towards her.

He sat down on the bed and started making balloons again as if nothing happened a few moments ago. He didn't trip, he didn't just stare at Chaeyoung's soul and he did not make any intentions of moving away when she said to move.

Just like in ninth, when he came to school the next day as if nothing happened. He did not insult her, he did not mock her and laugh about it along with his friends.

Like it was a dream, not something that shattered Chaeyoung.

"Why do you always act like this?" Chaeyoung voiced out with all the pain evident in her voice. She never tried to hide it. "What?" Jungkook questioned her squinting his eyes.

"You act like nothing ever happens Jungkook," Chaeyoung said and exhaling she continued, "You acted like this moment just didn't happen. And not only this, for everything that happens between us. You acted like you didn't kiss me the day you hurt your ankle, you act like you didn't change my clothes and spent a night at my apartment."

"You acted like you never insulted me," she whispered and continued, "You act like you didn't know how much I like you like you didn't know how our friendship fell apart, due to one rumour, how you mocked me and made fun of me."

Jungkook had his gaze fixed to the floor and anyone would think he zoned out but no, he listened to every word that left Chaeyoung's lips.

"I still have this weird idea that maybe, just maybe you will change, but it was all in vain, what was I even thinking?" Chaeyoung said.

"Can you please explain your behaviour? Like did you hate me so much back then, the point to where you call me stuff that is not laughable. And what about now? Do you want us to be friends, or do you still think of me like a clingy bitch? Because I am damn confused, I don't understand your behaviour, your mind, you feigning innocence and acting that nothing happens." She exhaled largely again.

"Why am I even expecting an answer?" Chaeyoung sighed. The balloons were all filled by now and they pushed them out quietly towards the living room.

"Guys Namjoon is coming," Hoseok informed as Jisoo looked towards him and asked, "How do you know?" "Well, I may or may not have put a small tracker on his jacket," he admitted sheepishly.

"You should be glad he didn't lose it," Jin laughed his iconic windshield laughter as they all ran to hide. The lock was heard to be clicked open as Namjoon opened the door expecting to see a dark room. And he was right.

The room was dark.

But nobody popped out.

He turned on the lights and saw the decorations with a big "Happy Birthday Joonei" instead of Joonie in the middle of the living room.

But nobody popped out.

Did they go somewhere? The question roamed in Namjoon's mind and as he was frantically roaming around Hobi came behind him and asked, "Would you like some cake?"

"Ah" Namjoon screamed as he turned around and that is when everyone shouted 'Happy Birthday.'

Unique, okay! Namjoon had to agree.

After everything and every other event including dinner the tannies and pinks headed to their rooms as Jungkook was left washing the dishes since it was his turn.

"Let me help you," Chae offered gravely as she took out the scrubber.

"You said I never notice anything, but I noticed a lot of things others never did," Jungkook said and Chaeyoung knew she was in for something.
