" Chapter 3 , The Birth of Mini Spade "

" Whew , we made it ! Home sweet home ! "

" THIS IS THE PHANTOM MANSION?! IT'S SO MUCH BIGGER IN PERSON!!! " Yukina exclaimed. The building was massive , assumed to have two stories from just the sheer size alone. It was much larger than the manga description , that's for sure.

The sun was rising , and Yukina had woken up from a nice rest in the car , stretching her back that was still sore from yesterday's chase.

" It's...a bit extra for one person , don't you think ? Or do just want to flex your immense wealth ? " she snickered , feeling a light pebble poke her forehead. " Ow ! " rubbing it , she looked up with a pout to meet with Miyako's head , her arms crossed.

" Watch the insults , dumpling head. It's not everyday I bring a rando to my hideaway. You're lucky I owe you this. " Miyako said sternly , leaving the two quiet for a few minutes till suddenly , she jumped from her spot and gripped on her cape , glaring at Yukina in fear and surprise. " Wait a minute ! How do you even know about this place!? " Yukina yelped and bit her bottom lip , tapping her foot against the ground. ' Shoot ! Me and my big mouth ! What do I tell her now?! I heard it on the news ? But she saw me fall from the sky ! What do I tell the greatest thief in the whole world?! '

" I-I just figured it was called that since you're called a Phantom Thief. Phantom Thief ? Mansion ? Phantom Mansion ?? " Yukina nervously chuckled , once again trying to keep her eyes focused on Miyako. Miyako said nothing.

She just stared at her with boredom before sighing to herself and adjusting her hat , walking onto the grass to the door. " Great job Miyako , you're letting strangers stay in your home now...can't wait to see how this'll stain my hard work and image... "

Yukina was going to say something , but decided it was best to just ignore her grumbling. She looked around , and found the car they drove parked in the garage , defiantly knowing for sure this was the back of the building. Then Miyako caught her attention again.

Her hat. It was just sitting there , bouncing along with her.  ' I've never seen her hair down , not even in the manga. But even with that hat , her hair is always perfectly in place. It never falls down when she moves. Weird... I wonder if she pins her hair , or if it's naturally short like mine. Only one way to find out... '

Yukina without even saying a word , suddenly lunged at her to try , and take her top hat , only for her to collapse onto the concrete ground and scratch her arm. ' Of course I'd be too slow to try and grab it. Why did I... Why did I do that ? It's just a hat ' she got up and dusted herself , looking up at a very tired and irritated Miyako.

" Miyako , why do you keep that top hat on ? That's gonna get you caught , and it's too hot to be wearing a hat , let alone a suit  "

" I'm gonna regret this... " Miyako mumbled. With a snap of her fingers , the doors opened on command , walking through with Yukina behind her. The large door was wooden , but engraved on it were three card suits. A blue diamond , a purple spade , and a pink heart.

' Miyako is represented by a Spade , that's common knowledge for any fan but...there's other suits marked on the door...so there might be other members ? Then where are they now ? And the Clover's missing... The Villain in the manga was the Ace suit...or was it the Clover ? ' Yukina thought , placing her finger across each suit before stopping at the Heart.

" You coming ? " Miyako asked , Yukina snapping out of her thoughts to walk next to Miyako. It was a bit worrisome the fact she didn't even have a overcomplicated way to secure the mansion , let alone any cameras. Then again it was a children's entertainment show , what could she expect from anyone finding this place. If a Yo-Yo didn't surprise her then what can come next from this wacky world definitely would've.

" I just don't get how you don't need to load in a lot of security devices. You're a thief and practically rich , so I would assume someone would wanna steal from the greatest thief in the whole world. " Miyako playfully rolled her eyes , and looked at her gloved hand with a smirk , almost a cocky one.

" Why would I need to ? I mean how long is gonna take for Detective Keiko to realize they can't catch me ? My fingers are the only security I need. The sensors pick up the sound waves my finger makes , and I snap a certain way because no one else in all of Daifuku can match the waves. That and there's a alarm as well as a blaster connected to the camera sensor if they keep trying to get in. " shivers went down Yukina's spine as she rose her head to see a tiny sensor in the corner of the house.

She couldn't spot the blaster anywhere , and that was her top concern. " Don't worry , I added you to it's memory data so they can spot the both of us now. I'll deal with adding your soundwaves in later. Now , are you gonna goggle at my security , or finally walk in to see the rest of the place ? " she asked , Yukina rolling her eyes while walking inside and closing the door behind them.

' This is stupid. All this security , and the police haven't even realized they can put a tracker on her. If I can't trust the law enforcement , who can I trust ? Still on the edge with Miyako , and going rouge is out of the question ' 

Walking out of the garage was a long brown and golden hallway with some paintings hung up , most likely stolen ones , and a few vases of plants on the tables next to the walls. " Is this even a base anymore ? You might as well call it a castle " Miyako nodded to the compliment. " There's in total about thirty rooms , including some good rooms like the garden , my room , and the music room , but it hasn't been used in a few years- "

" You have a music room ? " Miyako turned around and Yukina rose her toes up and down just a bit with a unbelievable sight. Yukina was smiling , not a full one , but more then usual. If she was going to stay here until she got home , then the best she could do was enjoy some things life had to offer her to get her mind off of her situation.

Quickly realizing she interrupted her , she covered her mouth. " I'm sorry , I shouldn't have interrupted like that " Yukina mumbled , Miyako staying silent before snickering to herself , laughing aloud to the now startled girl. " It's no worries. Yeah , I have a music room. We can go see it right now if you want. " Yukina nodded slowly , and the cloaked girl walked off , Yukina falling behind her like a sheep to the shepherd.

Yukina didn't know why , but it felt off. Horrible yet comforting. Scary yet exciting. She was with a stranger but yet , her mind refuses to treat her as such. More like a long lost friend waiting to say hello again after so many years.

The two of them walked past a few room until walking across a brown wooden door with handle the same material but instead had small trails of gold on the sides of the handle. On the front was a small spade symbol. It didn't look like gold but rather painted on.

The door opens , and Yukina was greeted with a beautiful array of instruments glistening under the bright sun. The baby pink floral wallpaper was comforting , and the white floors didn't even have a single stain.

There was a variety , but the ones she could've remembered was the flute , guitar , clarinet , tambourine , castanets and so many more. But her favorite instruments among the rest was a golden lyre that sat on the window seal , a violin pressed up against the wall , and a black glassy piano with a vase of white roses. Slowly walking over to the piano and violin , she was just about to touch it before the clanking of keys caught her attention.

" Hey you know if you wanna play some of this stuff , you can right ? Just don't tell anyone about the piano or violin , stole those two from Berlin. Everything else is pretty much store bought. " chuckling a bit , Yukina slowly walked to the piano and then back at her.

" I didn't know a Phantom Thief bought stuff , I thought they stole whatever they wanted cause they're too lazy to pay for things themselves. " Miyako rolled her eyes , blowing a piece of hair from her face. " You just don't know me , that's all. Are you gonna play , or insult me cause I have things you don't have ? " Yukina chuckled and stood absolutely still in front of the piano , thinking of any music she could remember and replay. One came to mind.

Sighing , she sat onto the black leather stool and lightly cracked her fingers , placing her hands across the smooth cold keys.

Then began to play.

Music rang from the room as Yukina began to relax more onto the piano , closing her eyes and letting herself sway " Moonlight Sonata huh ? Not a bad choice. For someone stubborn , you're not a bad piano player. Who taught you ? " that made Yukina stop dead in her tracks , causing Miyako to flinch from the sudden stop of music. " My father " she said , Yukina turning to Miyako with a smile but it wasn't a genuine one. Bittersweet , one she remembered to keep. When she first came to the realization she would forever live a life without her father in it. " He....still around ? " Miyako asked lowly , Yukina standing up and looking down at the ground to see her own two hands. Then flashes of glass , then back to nothing. " No...he's not. Can you show me the rest of the place ? I don't wanna stay in here for much longer " Miyako nodded and the two of them left the room , closing it.

" I do mean what I say. I can't force you to steal but you can't force me to let you stay here. You know , I don't steal out of some cliché reason like taking over the world or something like that. I told you before , I steal to bring back what the world took from me. It's up to you to think of what I am. " Yukina heard a knob open and a bright golden light blinded her eyes , her eyes fluttering a few times before adjusting to whatever shined in the room.

" My favorite room ! Of course , is the treasure room ! Everything in the whole world I've ever stolen is officially mine. Technically , Keiko didn't arrest you just yet so...would that make you mine ? " she joked , Yukina thrusting her elbow harshly into Miyako's stomach , the girl gripping her stomach. " Don't even think about it. First of all ,  I am not yours because you didn't steal me. Second of all , I would've gone to the police but you stopped me so no , you are not getting off the hook with the whole ' I'm helping you get back home ' stick. And for the last time , I am NOT helping you STEAL. I have standards thank you very much. "

Miyako glared and huffed , Yukina doing the same. " I'll have you know that I am not a pig , I have standards too idiot ! I could've left you on the streets for the cops , but I didn't. So you still owe me. Plus , I brought you to my SECRET BASE. "

" Yeah so what!? That doesn't explain why I'm gonna become a Phantom Thief ! I have to go home , I can't steal with you ! How would that even happen?! " A finger was placed over her finger but Miyako only used one of her gloved hands. " Do you ever just take the time to breathe ? I just wanted to steal something tonight and that's it. Besides ; " Miyako smirked and elbowed Yukina's shoulders , chuckling. " It could be pretty fun. You've got the stubborn brain for it so if your staying it's gonna be put to use " with that , she bit the other glove she had off and pulled away from her , walking down another long hallway with Yukina following behind.

" Besides , I am the richest thief in the world , surly I could pay you...1,000 dollars ? " Miyako suggested , turning back to her with a small smirk. Only to fall down at the sight of a bored , annoyed , confused Yukina. " That usually works ! How did it fail!? You really are stubborn ! " Yukina sighed. " No , it's just called common sense ". ' but that doesn't exist in this childish world , does it ? ' she mumbled , Miyako jumping back up. " Fine , fine. I'll give you a bet. Three nights , three nights is all it takes to convince you if you still wanna join or not. There are three spots all over Daifuku with three treasures we need to steal. If we get all three , and your still not having fun , then I lost and I'll help you find your way home. If I win , I'll still help you , but during your time here , you get to travel around the world with me and have the adventure of a lifetime ! "

Miyako held out her hand to the girl with a eager smirk on her face , determination in her eyes as she awaited her answer. ' Is she serious!? Did you not hear a single thing I just said!? She's the only person I know , but can't there be someone else to take me back home. This is childish , I don't even know if I'm dreaming this all up. It seems like a dream...but she hasn't even threatened to hurt me or ask for my money like a kidnapper would...maybe...just to get rid of these stupid memories of you for good. ' Yukina looked at her and down at her hands , the image of her child-like hands again , before looking back up at her.

" What do you say ? "

" ...Deal. Just to prove you wrong ! " Yukina said with a smirk of her own , Miyako moving even closer to her , her hand against her thumb. " Well then , we need to get you into character " she grabbed her hand and they ran down the hallways , reaching a room with a large heart on it. " This closet is gonna be aaaaaall yours when I win. It has everything a Phantom Thief could ever want. " Miyako opened it and revealed multiple outfits and accessories , some a child would wear like colorful hats and a bundle of costumes , as well as some things a adult would wear like glistening  jewelry and makeup of various colors. " These colors...some of them I've never seen before " Yukina exclaimed , feeling her hands through a feather from a hat and the fur covered boots.

" Like I said , all yours when you lose the competition. The actual uniform and suit won't be mentioned to you when you lose , same thing for the room sooooooo , you might have to sleep somewhere else. I have a outfit for you and the first treasure is Artemis's Moon Dagger , located at the Matsugane museum close to the mansion. Once we've stolen it , we'll head to the next location tomorrow night. Wanna get you used to the all night work. "

" Why do thieves always steal at museums ? Can't we just steal lollipops from a candy store or something ? " Yukina groaned.

" How low are your standards?! Do I look like a small-minded thief!? " Miyako exclaimed , her hands twitching ever so slightly. " From the way you've acted when I met you , yeah , you are ! "

" And you're stubborn ! "

The day passed by and crimson , orange and yellow hues painted the whole sky , the sun setting over the horizon and through the windows of Phantom Mansion. Yukina , on the ground , sleeping until she felt a tap on her stomach , the feeling of a carpet underneath her arms , legs and entire body. " Mmm...Mom....Mom it's too early for this...I'll head to my clubs when I've gotten sleep....Mom stooooooop... "

" Clubs huh ? Wonder if I'll be able to enter a club called Club Phantom. Sounds cool , maybe I can even teach some students how to steal. "

A few minutes pass by , before Yukina jumped up and backed into a wall. " You're...You're kidding ! This...isn't a dream. " Yukina called out , a deep groan from the voice's mouth. " You have a habit of hitting people DON'T YOU. " Miyako growled , glaring into her eyes as she rubbed the templates. " Sorry , ok!? How would you feel if a stranger just happened to be the most dangerous thief in the world and ask you to STEAL no less ! Wouldn't feel good , huh!? I'm just stressed ! " she yelled , backing away from the wall to face Miyako.

" Funny how you phrase it... " Miyako mumbled , rolling her eyes in a playful way before staring at Yukina up and down. " Aaaaaand you didn't change. Jeez , do you ever listen or stay stubborn with everyone ? I said get dressed in the clothes I picked out. If I have to baby you 24/7 , then you'll slow me down. " Miyako walked into the closet and buried her head deep inside , clothes flying all over. " Oh great ! Means I can forget this stupid challenge ! " Yukina called out , something being thrown it into her arms. With a smirk , Miyako giving her a wink.

" Nope ! Can't do that since you want to go home and I am the only person that can help. I'm gonna change myself. I am not having a night out in this. " Yukina's eyes darted down and she wasn't actually wearing her suit like usual , just a black turtleneck sweater and baggy purple pants with dark purple plaid patterns. ' First time seeing her in anything but the suit , she actually doesn't look that bad ' Yukina quickly looked away , gripping on the clothes while looking around the room. " Where do I change ? " Yukina asked , Miyako turning around and pointing to a door with a plant filled with flowers next to it. " Bathroom's over there. Not letting you see your room till you lose. You're gonna like it , you just have that " Wow ! I'm so into cute rooms ! " vibe about you. For now your sleeping on the couch. " with that , she walked away and entered a room with a purple spade on the front , a click sound coming from the knob. Yukina walked to the bathroom and closed it , changing as well.

A few minutes passed and Miyako was standing beside the bathroom wall , knocking the back of her hand against the door. " Yukina , are you done in there ? It doesn't take that long you know. " the door opened and Yukina walked out , silence between the two. " ....Pfff ! You look so bad ! H-Here ! " Miyako grabbed a mirror from one of her pockets and handed it to her , Yukina staying quiet till she grabbed her shoe from her foot and hit her upside the head with it.

Yukina was no longer in her school uniform , but in a purple body suit with a light purple skirt and a long , holographic purple stream of sash around her waist. Her short white boots clicked together upon impact and the thing that tied the look together was the purple Spade clip in her hair. " Well thank you for telling me something I already know ! Can we just get this over with ? I had enough of this and I just wanna go home. " Yukina grumbled , walking past her and slipping back her shoe. " Yeah Yeah , didn't have to hit me that hard with the shoe. Geez , I've never met someone this stubborn" She mumbled , grabbing her keys and walked to the backdoor of the mansion once more , hopping into the car.

" Well , you ready ? " Miyako asked , Yukina sighing while bowing her bangs from her face. " I promise when this is done you can take it off. It's just to hide you from the police. They won't even know your identity once you get your official one. We'll just say that she moved out the country or something. Speaking of said she , you need a name , a epic one none the less. How about...Phantom...Nope ! Not even that name is earned yet...Let's just say Mini Spade ! Yeah , sounds really cute ! "

" You love self inserts , huh ? Fine , Mini Spade it is until I win and get this stupid costume off me. " Yukina sighed and suddenly the car jolted with full speed , Miyako laughing happily to herself.

" Then let the game start ! "
