THE SMILE ON BASH'S FACE GREW
even wider. Gilbert could see how the man's eyes lit up and immediately had to smile wider too.
The man started whistling and laughing. He started doing a few dance moves and Gilbert had to laugh.

"AHA!" Bash yelled,

"I knew it!" He cheered, running a small circle and twirling.

"I always knew it! Since that moment you told me about that blond girl at home, I knew it!" He cheered and Gilbert grinned. He bent down to step through the fence again and immediately found himself in an embrace.

"Ah!" Bash said and Gilbert could still hear his smile. The boy smelled the farm smell on Bash's jacket and immediately felt home.

"She didn't even say yes, yet. I didn't even ask her!" He then said as they separated again.

"Of course she's gonna say yes." Bash said, padding Gilbert strongly on the shoulder which made the boy almost stumble when they walked back.

"But if you don't start growing some muscles, she'll eventually back off." Bash said teasingly and Gilbert scoffed.

"I grew muscles!" Gilbert said.

"Keep telling yourself that Blythe." Bash said, smiling brightly. Gilbert mirrored that smile, looking to the ground.

He really had missed this. The house, the farm, Delphi and Bash's teasing. It's only been 2 and a half years and Gilbert already felt like a whole century went by. A whole lot of things had changed. Delphine was not a baby anymore, Sebastian was not the cabbage man from Trinidad, but a serious farmer with a business and a family. And Gilbert, he was not the inexperienced little school boy anymore, but a doctor that helped to safe people's life.

One day he knew, he would settle down here again. He'll marry Amy and move in with her, he was gonna have his own little family with the girl that he loved so dearly.

Bella walked out of the classroom and towards the front door where to pick up the newspaper and mail she and the other students got. She picked the paper up and went through if, seeing if her name was written anywhere.

A few weeks ago, her and Anne had made an advertisement in the newspaper, like all college students did, since it was their final semester soon and they wanted to find a job.
The thought of dropping out of college frightened Bella a bit because she didn't want to leave her time with Anne and Diana behind, to go a separate way.

"Oh Amybella!" She heard a voice behind her and turned around to see Sofie.

"Oh hello Sofie." She greeted the brunette girl from her class.

"I already put your mail and newspaper before your room, I had to get to mine anyway so I thought I brought yours and Anne's too!" The girl smiled, which Bella returned.

"Oh thank you, that's nice of you!" Amy said nodding to her and walking towards the stairs to get up to her room. She walked along the hallway, already glancing if something lied before her door but there was nothing. So she opened the door to her room to see Anne sitting on her bed, reading a letter.
The redhead girl whirled her head around.

"Bella! I have a job in New Brunswick!" Anne said excitedly and Bella opened her mouth in excitement. She gasped.

"Really?! That's great Anne, what is it?" She said, hurrying to kneel on Anne's bed, so she could look over the Sherly girls shoulder.

"Here! Dear Miss Anne Shirley Cuthbert,
We are to inform you that your qualifications have been reviewed with great care, and the Board has deemed you most suited to the position of Instructor at the Lady's College.
We trust that you will uphold the high standards of the College and contribute meaningfully to the education of our students. Kindly confirm your acceptance of this position at your earliest convenience.
Yours faithfully, Mr. Edward J Hamington.
Secretary to the Board of Governors
Lady's College, New Brunswick"

Anne just squealed the last part so that Bella barely understood the name, but that didn't matter. She squealed along with her friend but also thought about how far away Anne would be.

New Brunswick.
And where would Bella go?

"Are there any letters for me?" Bella then asked, looking around the room and spotting the newspaper. She walked towards it to search for any letters.

"No, I don't think so." Anne said slowly and Bella pressed her lips together in a line.

"Oh." She said biting her lips and turning around to Anne.

"You'll get a response Bella! Don't worry." Anne said, standing up.

"I hope so. Don't want all the studying to be for nothing." The blond girl said and sighed.

The next day, Bella got up early after not sleeping well the previous night. The thought of Anne moving so far away and the fact that she still hadn't gotten any response for her advertisement. Just like Anne, she of course had gotten letters from institutions, asking for further information about the girl, but she hadn't gotten any further responses on any acceptances.

She grabbed one of the bikes to drive towards the post office because she wanted to see if she had gotten any response.
She drove through the trees, feeling the early sun on her skin and talking in the fresh air. Her brown dress with white sleeves under it kept her warm from the rather cold wind and her hair got blown out of her face as she saw the first people walking around, taking care of their animals or getting to work.

She stopped before the post office and laid down her bike.
She stepped in to the door, hearing the bell ring.

"Good morning." The woman of the post office greeted her.

"Good day, Mrs Carther! Is there any mail for me, perhaps some from yesterday?" Amybella asked friendly nodded towards the boxes.

"Thank you!" Bella said and walked towards the boxes. She looked through them, searching for her name and indeed there was a letter with her name on it.

'Miss Amybella McCurthy'

Amybella smiled brightly and walked out of the office toward her bike. She opened the letter, while she picked up her bike and pushed it the way back to her college.

'Dear Miss Amybella McCurthy
We have recognized your application for pursuing-..

Before the girl could continue to read the letter, it was ripped out of her hands.

"So!" She looked to her left to see none other than Gilbert.

"This is why you keep disappearing on me as soon as I lay foot here again!" He said while trying to read the letter.

"Gilbert!" Amybella said in shock and tried to snatch the letter out of his hands.

"All the secrecy. You never have time to speak to me anymore!" He said dramatically, looking at her for a moment.
Bella then made another attempt to get her letter back put he held it up and tried to read it again.

"You give that back or I won't speak to you again!" She said, pointing her finger at him, but her amused smile betrayed her. She leaned forward quickly and tried to get to the letter but Gilbert leant back so her hand only landed in his shoulder.

"Dear Miss Amybella McCurthy, pretty name." He said and Bella sighed.

"Gilbert please!" She said, getting annoyed but the man ignored her.

"We have recognized your application for pursuing a position in an educational institution. Upon review, the Board has determined that certain additional particulars would be most helpful to fully consider your candidacy.
We would, therefore, request that you furnish us with further details regarding your academic accomplishments, prior experience in teaching or related fields, and any skills or qualifications that may pertain to the duties of the role.
Yours faithfully, Mr. Thomas R. Among
Secretary to the Board of Governors
Kensington Seminary." Gilbert read and Bella listened closely.

"Kensington?" The boy then asked and Bella sighed, finally ripping the letter out of his hands. She sighed, annoyed as she got on her bike and started driving.

"What's wrong? They're interested in you!" Gilbert said, nit understanding why the girl was so upset about the letter.

"It's all I've been getting the last days! Anne already got a job in New Bronswick and I haven't gotten any acceptances!" She complained.

"You'll get a position, why are you so stressed about that? You still got a year till you finish college!" Gilbert said.

"I only got a year Gilbert! You're supposed to know that after your whole drama with Toronto and Miss, her father gets you into Sorbonne!" She mocked him.

"Oh get off your high horse!" Gilbert joked. He stopped his bike in front of her so the girl had to stop her bike.

"I have to go to class!" She complained.

"Listen! These people would be idiots for not wanting you!" He said, before grabbing the bell of her bike.

"Listen to me everybody! Avonlea's school teacher, soon to become world famous! Amybella-.." he started yelling and Bella pressed her hand onto his mouth.

"Shhh! You fool! Stop it!" She scolded him, glancing around. Gladly, nobody had heard Gilbert.

"Come on, I just wanted to cheer you up!" Gilbert said, laughing at her awkwardness.

"That, you did. Now go help Bash at home, I see you tomorrow!" She said, patting his shoulder. She locked eyes with the boy smiling.

As she turned back to her bike to drive around him, Gilbert grabbed the bars of her bike to stop her. She looked back up at him.

"I love you." Gilbert murmured, his eyes gliding over her features. His hands traced hers softly and Bella felt her heart melt inside her.

"I love you too."
