Diego tilts his head against the window, eyeing his reflection through his visor - red, like everything else. He's in Miles' gaudy sportscar, a whole 3 hours out of prison as Miles takes him to the apartment that he and Phoenix had set up for him, much to his chagrin. "You know you don't have to do this, right?" Diego says again, glancing over at Miles in the drivers' seat.
"Nonsense." Miles says, sending a light glare Diego's way though his voice carries no rancor. "You saved Maya's life all those years ago- God, has it really been a decade?" he laughs dryly. "I suppose it has. It's the least Phoenix and I can do. Trucy was allowed to decorate the apartment, so you've brought joy to her simply by accepting it."
"Alright, alright." Diego says, turning his vision back to the sunlight filtering in golden (he assumes) rays through the skyscrapers. "I guess I can't say no to Trucy." He'd only met the kid 3 hours ago (though he'd heard plenty from Miles and Phoenix's visits to him in prison), but her bouncy charm and ability to see right through him meant he'd already formed an attachment with the kid. Miles smiled. "Good."
Diego wonders about the other kids he'd seen, the orange-haired one always with Trucy and the tall, blonde rockstar that had been leaning on the rather short, starry-eyed brunette. The one with the tall black ponytail that had slipped a card into his pocket just to steal it back out again a few minutes later, the imposing black-and-white haired one with the sword and falcon that had shaken his hand and murmured, "Welcome out, oniisan." and the awkward honey blonde with the pointer that had seemed scared of everyone there.
Diego smiles. The Edgeworth-Wrights sure were one big, expanded family, huh?
"Out of curiosity, where were the Feys?" Diego asks. Miles grimaces.
"Ah, they had a rather important channeling and couldn't make it, though Maya told me to assure you that she and Pearl will be by as soon as they are free." Diego nodds - he had to admit he was looking forward to seeing Maya again. Seeing what kind of young woman she's grown into.
They passed through the rougher neighborhoods, though the middle class neighborhoods, until they were in the area where celebrities bought penthouses to spend 3 weeks of the year in.
"Miles." Diego says.
"Yes?" Miles responds mildly, a smile playing at his lips.
"Where, exactly, did you buy this apartment?"
"Oh, nowhere special. Just a rather nice area. I believe Phoenix called it Moneybags Central?"
Diego knows the area he's referring to, and it's an area far nicer than he'd ever imagined living, even as a kid when he'd daydream about having fantastical amounts of money. "Once again, you really didn't have to. I'd survive in a much worse area, believe me."
"Of course you could," Miles says, turning left into a complex with apartments the size of houses. "But why should you have to?"
And Diego finds he has nothing to say to that.
