! KILLSHOT !
( a nicholas alexander chavez fic )

CENTRAL PARK
new york, new york
september 25, 2024
wednesday
12pm

i loved people-watching. there was something intriguing about observing strangers' lives play out before my eyes. it was like a living, breathing story, with no scripts or predetermined outcomes.

so, whenever i had a few moments to myself, i'd often find a cozy spot in central park and spend my time watching the world go by.

i would observe couples engrossed in conversations, families on picnics, and kids playing on the grass. i'd silently predict the outcomes of their lives, creating back stories, imagining their struggles, joys, and dreams. it was a soothing, introspective activity, a way to escape from my own chaotic life for a bit.

it was also an endless source of curiosity, each person a new mystery to unravel, a new story to dissect.

as i sat on the park bench, watching the world go by, i reached into my bag and pulled out my trusty flask. i unscrewed the cap, pouring some of the contents into my drink.

as i did, a nearby guy passed by and noticed my gesture. he chuckled softly, looking at me with amused curiosity.

i smiled sheepishly, knowing i'd been caught in my little ritual.

just as the guy seemed to be contemplating approaching me, he was interrupted by a group of giggling teenage girls. they recognized me immediately and rushed over.

"oh my god, it's lucky!"

"can we get your autograph?"

"please, we love your videos, you're so cool!"

the guy stepped back, a bemused smile playing on his face. the girls swarmed around me, their phones out and ready for pictures.

i spent a few minutes with the girls, laughing and chatting as i signed autographs and take photos. it was always a fun, albeit brief, interaction. but when i finally looked up again, the guy who had been watching me moments ago was nowhere to be seen.

i glanced around, a pang of disappointment hitting me. the stranger was gone.

there was something about him, some aura of intrigue that had piqued my interest. but he had vanished into the crowd, leaving me with only a fleeting memory of his amused chuckle.

as the girls thanked me and left, i remembered i had a lunch to get to.

TAVERN ON THE GREEN RESTARAUNT
new york, new york
1:15pm

the restaurant was vibrant, the chatter and clinking of cutlery filling the air. i navigated through the maze of tables, searching for my friends.

after a brief search, i spotted them waving from a table near the window.

i walked over, my heels clicking against the hardwood floor. "sorry i'm late, got caught up in a little autograph session in the park."

lucy and col looked at me with a mixture of amusement and slight disapproval. they were used to my impromptu autograph sessions by now, but i could tell they found my timing less than ideal.

"of course, only you could be late to a lunch you planned," lucy teased, raising an eyebrow.

colleen shook her head amusedly, a small smile playing on her lips. "typical lucky."

i feigned an offended gasp, placing a hand dramatically on my chest. "oh, come on now, ladies. you know you love me anyway."

i slid into the empty seat between lucy and marley, a playful grin on my face.

lucy rolled her eyes. "yeah, yeah. you're lucky we're not easily annoyed." she quipped.

col, ever the voice of reason, attempted to change the subject. "enough about lucky's punctuality issues. can we please order now? i'm starving."

i nodded, my stomach rumbling in agreement. "yes, please. let's get some food into us before lucy starts smoking a pack of cigarettes as her lunch."

lucy mock-gasped, feigning offense. "what's wrong with smoking? it's a perfectly acceptable way to deal with hunger."

we all groaned collectively, used to lucy's habit.

col spoke up. "lucy, seriously. can you go at least an hour without smoking?"

lucy let out a dramatic sigh. "fine, i suppose i can sacrifice my nicotine fix for now."

marley rolled her eyes playfully, "can we move onto important things? like how lucky here will be the birthday girl in just five days." marley said as she ruffled my hair.

a sly grin formed on my face. "oh yes, my twenty-fourth birthday."

col rolled her eyes. "please don't make it too insane. we can't bail you out of jail again this year."

"i don't know what i'm gonna do, honestly. i kind of want to go on a trip, like i did for my 21st." i said.

lucy chimed in, "ooo, a trip sounds fun. we all need a vacation."

"somewhere exotic?" marley added with a sparkle in her eyes. a glimmer of an idea.

i shrugged. "i was thinking a solo trip."

surprise washed over both lucy and marley faces. "a solo trip?" they echoed simultaneously.

col leaned forward, brows furrowed. "you, miss lucky clarke, wanting to go on a trip all by yourself? who are you and what have you done with our friend?"

i chuckled, amused by their reaction. "relax, i'm still me. just feeling like some alone time."

marley raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. "alone time, huh? not gonna get into any mischief without us supervision?"

i laughed. "well, i didn't say i wouldn't get into any trouble. i'm just gonna do it without your supervision this time."

their amusement grew at my confession.

"should we be worried?" asked colleen, half-joking.

"let's just say this trip might be very memorable." i replied with a mischievous grin.

lucy snorted. "sounds like someone's looking to raise hell all on her own."

marley, the ever-optimistic one, raised a glass of water. "well, here's to lucky's solo trip and the chaos it will undoubtedly bring."

we all raised our glasses, clinking them together in a mock toast.

"and now for the big question. where to?" colleen asked.

i shrugged, a thoughtful look on my face. "that's the thing i haven't figured out yet. i want something easy yet exciting."

lucy's eyes lit up. "oh, i've got it. how about bali? it's tropical, beautiful, and there's plenty of opportunities for trouble."

i shook my head. "somewhere easy. like in the us."

marley thought for a moment. "how about vegas?"

colleen shook her head, frowning. "vegas is far from easy, and the casinos are too much temptation for lucky."

i chuckled, knowing col had a point. "yeah, as much as i love vegas, it's off the table."

lucy took a swig of her water, before getting an idea. "how about los angeles? it's cool, there's lots of things to do."

i perked up at the suggestion. "you know, that's not a bad idea. la has everything i'm looking for. beach, sun, and some good old fashioned chaos."

marley nodded, a smile forming on her lips. "yeah, and you can do the whole hollywood thing, walk of fame, celebrity spotting..."

lucy chimed in, "and there will be plenty of parties to keep you entertained."

"and! your family is there!" colleen exclaimed.

i chuckled at her comment, knowing my family would definitely take any chance to rope me into their social events.

"fair point, but i doubt they'll let me get up to too much trouble, considering my reputation in la." i said.

colleen rolled her eyes. "you mean your reputation of being the most reckless and outrageous one in the family?"

"yeah that." i said with a nod.

lucy smirked. "they'll try to rein you in, but we all know it's a hopeless endeavor."

i shrugged, a sly grin on my face. "they can try, but they're doomed to fail. i'm unpredictable, especially in la."

"unpredictable or not, i hope you have a good time." said marley.

"oh, i will." i said with a confident chuckle. "and who knows, maybe i'll bring back some good stories."

col laughed. "knowing you, they'll be more like cautionary tales."
