Your team had been separated on the way back to the Quinnjet and the order was to leave immediately after that. Of course, Fury's order was not immediately obeyed because four people were missing. You could not be reached by radio; the time had long since passed and there was no trace of you, far and wide, even your order chips gave no signal.

Weeks passed and it could be assumed that the four of you were dead. A reconnaissance team was sent out to find out what had happened, but there was no sign of life, nor any other indication of what might have gone wrong.

During a briefing, a distress signal came in, causing the briefing to be interrupted. At first, it was unclear where it came from or who was responsible, but after a few minutes, it became clear. The rest of the team was still alive.

On the one hand, Clint had come to terms with the idea that you were dead, because there was no sign that it was otherwise, but nevertheless, something inside him didn't want to believe it, let alone come to terms with it. This little something, which contradicted all logic, was finally right.
