In a world where most of the population is gifted with special powers known as "Quirks", a country known as 'North Korea' is the only land which is opposed to such powers.
Under the rule of Kim Jong-Un, North Korea remains among the world's most repressive countries.
The government sharply curtails all basic liberties, including freedom of expression, religion and conscience, assembly, and association. It prohibits political opposition, independent media, civil society, trade unions or quirk usage
This country does not have the capability to eliminate quirks, but instead they surround their country with a quirk deactivating force-field known as 'bangpae' to the citizens of that country.
However the citizens do not know what bangpae is for, they are not allowed to know about quirks.
"Dad! Can I please visit my brother? Please, please, please!" Y/N asked pleading in front of her father, who sat at the opposite sofa, he let out a sigh. "Fine, guess we'll have to prepare the car." he said, referring to his main car.
Y/N let out a pout when she realized her father wouldn't give her the 721 plated car- a car that belonged only to the highest ranking officials, but instead their normal car. "Sorry Y/N, maybe next time." her father said, patting her head. "Anyways, start your journey before it becomes late. Your brother might not be at home if you don't hurry up."
"Ehh!! You should've told me earlier then dad!" Y/N said hurrying out the room as she hummed 'I'm finally going to meet my brother...' She thought to herself, a small smile making its way on her face. She hadn't met her brother since he started his military duties.
As the car halted in the militarized housing zone, she left her car, only to frown at the state of the housing. It looked poor and unmaintained, she let out a gasp when she saw her brother's house. She immediately rushed in, "Brother! Are you okay? How are you living in such a place! It must be hell for you."
She realized her brother wasn't even home and pouted. 'Jeez, he isn't even home.' She thought to herself. She decided to go and check out the stalls in the area, as she had heard the militarized zones had cheaper products.
As she entered the market area, she was surprised by how crowded it was. Children running and playing amongst stalls and stall owners yelling out prices. She went to a beauty stall and took a look at the products, surprised at the low prices.
"Looking for anything ma'am?" The stall owner asked, Y/N nodded "Yeah! Can you show me your selection of cosmetics?"
The lady unveiled a small curtained area, "These are from down there." She added, causing Y/N to gasp. Products from South Korea?! Such unpatriotic citizens, they don't deserve to serve our country!
Y/N found herself drooling at the product prices and packaging however, and so she bought a handful of products feeling guilty for doing so.
"I really shouldn't have bought these products! I'm such a disgrace to my nation! Wait is it really my fault? Those people were selling it in the first place!" Y/N found herself immersed in her monologue as she arrived at her brother's housing. Frowning once again at it's size. "Such a small house..." She remarked.
She entered inside and realized that her brother's laptop was open. She noticed various unfamiliar icons on his laptop. "We were never taught this in school..." She wondered, curiously tapping onto a colourful icon only to see an English browser. Since Y/N came from an influential family she was able to afford extra English classes, in North Korea English is taught in British English instead of American.
She tapped on an icon located in the bookmarks bar below the URL page only to access a chatting forum- people from various different countries and places talked here. She was surprised that her brother did such an unpatriotic thing. And wondered how he got access to the internet.
She noticed the forum categories 'Heroes forum', 'ARG forum', 'Anime forum'
She wondered what any of these meant, what were heroes exactly? were they referring to fictional heroes? ARG- what exactly was that?
She typed heroes onto the search bar and discovered a definition page- "Heroes: People that fight villains through quirks."
Y/N wondered what quirks were, and a simple search revealed that they were genetic powers possessed by humans. She thought of it as fictional and not real. Not until she tapped on the heroes forum and a question popped up that said 'What's your quirk?' she noted the amount of answers- 2710 and gasped. It seemed to be taken far too seriously to be a joke.
'So was it real? did people truly have quirks?' Y/N thought to herself. She tapped on one of the answers' An electricity quirk' and pressed the face that came next to it. 'Denki Kaminari?'
She noticed his oddly yellow hair- it looked unnatural—yet so attractive. His amber eyes glistened dreamily. His skin looked soft and milky, she really felt like touching it. 'I wonder how it would feel to hold his hand, how warm it would be...' . She shook her head to stop thinking about the profile.

She searched up 'North Korea' in pride. Knowing that the results would only be about how great her country was.
She was wrong, oh how utterly wrong she was. There were tainted news articles and all sorts of websites documenting the atrocities of North Korea. Her eyes widened- was her entire life a lie?
"What is life like in a country without quirks- North Korea."
"North Korea fires another missile at South Korea."
"North Korea reportedly using Altcoins to convert $1.5B in stolen funds to cash"
"North Korea reportedly using cyber attacks and malware to rob banks and other financial entities of third world nations"
"North Korea performs yet another cyber attack on South Korean Sunny Production Company"
Y/N shut off the laptop in disappointment, she felt sad. Sad that the pride she held for her nation was not even real. All the accomplishments weren't even seen as great abroad. She despised the other countries.
She realized how prideful she was, and decided to hold in her pride and read the articles. What shocked her was, these articles were accurate. They were accurate, but she never knew these things were bad. She never knew what kind of lifestyle the outside world held. And so she read about technology. And she was astounded, it felt like North Korea was centuries behind in infrastructure and tech. She felt like it all amounted to nothing. What was North Korea? Merely a weak country.
Y/N was heartbroken and upset, vulnerable... Her entire life was a lie.
She ended up taking her brother's laptop home that day.
