The walls are covered with information on the yellow eyed demon. Weather charts, hieroglyphics, pictures, newspaper articles, written notes, a shelf of books and more stuff. John sits at a paper strewn desk; the Colt is in front of him. Sam is leaning against the counter with Ana as Dean paces back and forth.
"So, this is it. This is everything I know. Look our whole lives we have been searching for his demon, right? Not a trace, just...nothing. Until about a year ago, for the first time I picked up a trail." John says.
"And that's when you took off." Dean says.
"Yeah, that's right. The demon must have come out of hiding, or hibernation." John says.
"Alright, so what's this trail you found?" Dean asks his father.
"It starts in Arizona, then New Jersey, California. Houses burned to the ground. It's going after families, just like it went after us." John explains.
"Families with infants?" Sam asks.
"Yeah, the night of the kid's six-month birthday." John says.
"I was six months old that night?" Sam asks.
"Exactly six months." John says.
"So, basically, this demon is going after these kids for some reason. The same it came for me. So, Mom's death...Jessica. It's all because of me?" Sam says.
"We don't know that Sam." Dean says as he sees Ana looking at him and he raises his hands up and down as she nods her head focusing on her breathing to keep her calm.
"Oh really? 'Cause I'd say we're pretty damn sure Dean." Sam says.
"For the last time, what happened to them was not your fault." Dean says growing frustrated.
"Right. It's not my fault, but it's my problem." Sam says shouting.
"No, it's not your problem, it's our problem!" Dean shouts.
"Okay, that's enough." John says as he stands up, as everyone takes a dee00 breath and calms down.
"So, why's he doing it. What does he want?" Sam asks.
"Look, I wish I had more answers, I do. I've always been one step behind it. Look, I've never gotten there in time to save..." John says looking down.
"Alright, so how do we find it...before it hits again." Dean says to his father.
"There's signs. It took me a while to see the pattern but it's there in the days before these fires, signs crop up in an area. Cattle deaths, temperature fluctuations, electrical storms, and then I went back and checked...and..." John says.
"These things happened in Lawrence." Dean says.
"A week before your mother died and in Palo Alto....before Jessica. And these signs, they're starting again." John says.
"Where?" Sam asks.
"Salvation, Iowa." John says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Ana is asleep in the backseat of the Impala, as John's truck speeds along a misty road, followed closely by the Impala. After a few moments he pulls off to the side of the road, as the Impala follows and Dean, John and Sam all spring out their seats. Ana remains asleep in the Impala sound asleep, like nothing happened.
"God damn it!" John cusses.
"What is it?" Dean asks.
"Son of a bitch." John says.
"What is it!" Dean says.
"I just got a call from Caleb." John says.
"Is he okay?" Dean asks.
"He's fine. John Murphy's dead." John says.
"Pastor Jim? How?" Sam asks.
"His throat was slashed, he bled out. Caleb said they found traces of sulfur at Jim's place." John says.
"A demon." Dean says as John nods. "The Demon?'
"I don't know. Could be he just got careless, he slipped out. Maybe the demon knows we're getting close." John says.
"What do we do?" Dean asks.
"Now we act like every second counts. There's two hospitals and a health center in this county. We split up, cover more ground. I want records. I want a list of every infant that's going to be six months old in the next week." John says.
"Dad, that could be dozens of kids. How do we know which ones the right one?" Sam asks.
"We check 'em all that's how. You got any better ideas?" John asks.
"No, sir." Sam replies as John nods at them, and they all turn back to their cars. John stops, leaning on his trunk. Dean turns back as he opens his door and pauses. "
"Dad?" Dean asks.
"Yeah, it's Jim. You know, I can't..." John says as his face hardens. "This ends now. I'm ending it. I don't care what it takes." He says as they all get back in their cars and pull back onto the road, speeding in the distance.
───※ ·❆· ※───
The three Winchester's splitted up as of course Ana was with Dean; she didn't even hesitate to go to Dean in the first place. Dean and Ana went to a hospital, and did their job, and after that the four of them went to the motel room. Sam had a vision of what happens to a lady that he talked to and just like both Mary and Jessica, the lady's room burst into flames.
Sam sits at the table, rubbing his temples. Dean and John sit on the end of each bed. Ana sits up by the pillow make distance between her and John.
"A vision." John says flatly.
"Yes, I saw the demon burning a woman on the ceiling." Sam says slowly and painfully.
"And you think this is going to happen to this woman you met because." John says.
"Because these things happen exactly the way I see them." Sam says.
"It started out as nightmares. Then it started happening while he was awake." Dean says as he rises and crosses to the counter behind Sam to get more coffee.
"Yeah. It's like the closer I get to anything to do with the demon the stronger the visions get." Sam says wincing.
"Alright." John says turning to Dean. "When were you going to tell me about this?" John asks as the Winchester brothers and Ana turn to look at John.
"We didn't know what it meant." Dean says.
"Alright, something like this starts happening to your brother, you pick up the phone and call me." John says as Ana got off the bed and strides towards John as Dean doesn't stop her.
"Call you? Are you kidding, seriously? Dean called you from Lawrence. Sam called you when Dean was dying. Getting you on the phone is the most impossible thing ever. We have a better chance at winning the lottery, than getting you on the phone for once." Ana says as when she said that her arms were crossed over her chest.
"Look guys, visons or no visions, fact is, we know the demon is coming tonight. And this family's gonna go through the same hell we went through." Sam says.
"No, they're not. No one is, ever again." John says as moments later Sam's phone rings.
"Hello?"
"Sam?"
"Who is this?" Sam asks.
"Think really hard, it will come to you."
"Meg." Sam says under his breath as Ana turned to Dean as her skin went pale. "Last time I saw you, you fell out of a window."
"Yeah, no thanks to you. That really hurt my feelings by the way."
"Just your feelings? That was a seven-story drop." Sam says as Ana is in Dean's arms, as he is comforting her.
"Lemme speak to your dad."
Sam looks at John. "My Dad, I don't know where my dad is." Which was a lie on so many levels.
"It's time for the grown-ups to talk Sam, let me speak to him now."
Sam hesitates then hands the phone to John. "This is John."
"Howdy John. I'm Meg. I'm a friend of your boys and the red head. I'm also the one who watched Jim Murphy choke on his own blood...still their John-boy?"
"I'm here." John says.
Dean is holding Ana in his arms, as he is pressing kisses on her head. "Shh, it's okay babygirl. She can't hurt you, okay?" Dean whispers in her ear as she only squeezed him a little tighter the more that she hears John talking to Meg. "She can't hurt you because of me okay." Ana nods her head as Dean kissed her forehead again.
"Caleb?" When John said his friend Caleb, that is when Dean and Sam became more alert. "You listen to me. He's got nothing to do with anything. You let him go."
"We know you have the Colt, John."
"I don't know what you're talking about." John replies to Meg.
"Oh, okay. Well, listen to this."
Then there is sounds of Caleb gasping and drowning in his own blood.
"Caleb. Caleb!" John exclaims which made Ana jump as at this point, she was squeezing Dean out of fear, and he only held her tighter comforting her as much as he could.
"You hear that? That's the sound of your friend dying. Now, let's try that again. We know you have the gun, John, word travels fast. So, as far as we're concerned you just declared war. And this is what war looks like. It has casualties."
"I'm gonna kill you, you know that?" John says.
"Oh, please John, mind your blood pressure. So, this is the thing, we're going to keep doing what we're doing. And your friends, anyone who has ever helped you, gave you shelter, and anyone you ever loved. They'll die unless you give me that gun."
John is quiet, thinking, as the boys and Ana are close by his side, Ana is currently in Dean's arms like a child, which he doesn't mind.
"I'm waiting Johnny, better answer before the buzzer."
"Okay." John says.
"Sorry? I didn't quite get that."
"I said okay, I'll bring you the Colt." John says to Meg.
"There's a warehouse in Lincoln, on the corner of Wabash and Lake. You're gonna meet me there."
"It's gonna take me about a day's drive to get there." John says.
"Meet me there at midnight tonight."
"That's impossible. I can't get there in time and I can't just carry a gun on the plane." John says.
"Oh, well I guess your friends die don't they. If you do decide to make it, come alone." After that John hung up.
"So, you think Meg is a demon?" Sam asks.
"Either that or she's possessed by one. It doesn't matter." John says.
"What do we do?" Dean asks as he put Ana down but still held her in his arms.
"I'm going to Lincoln." John says.
"What?" Dean asks.
"It doesn't look like we have a choice, if I don't go, a lot of people die, our friends die." John says as Ana's back on Dean's chest as his arms are around her sides.
"Dad, the demon is coming tonight, for Monica and her family. That gun is all we got; you can't just hand it over." Sam says.
"Who said anything about handing it over. Look, besides us and a coupla of vampires no one's really seen the gun, no one knows what it looks like." John says.
"So, what, you're just going to pick up a ringer at a pawn shop?" Dean asks.
"Antique store." John says.
"You're going to hand Meg a fake gun and hope that she doesn't notice?" Ana asks the father of Dean.
"Look, as long as it's close, she shouldn't be able to tell the difference." John says.
"Yeah, but for how long? What happens when she figures it out?" Dean asks.
"I just...I just need to buy a few hours, that's all." John says.
"You mean for Dean, Ana and me. You want us to stay here, and kill this demon by ourselves?" Sam asks.
"No, Sam. I want to stop losing people we love. I want you to go to school, I want Dean to have a home. I want...I want Mary alive. It's just...I just want this to be over." John says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Sam and John stand at the back of his truck, checking weapons. Then the Impala comes towards them and Dean and Ana get out of the car. "You get it?" John asks, as Ana pulls out a brown paper bag out of his pocket and hands it to John. John pulls out an antique gun.
"You know this is a trap, don't you. This is why Meg wants you to come alone?" Dean says to his father.
"I can handle her. I got a whole arsenal loaded. Holy water, Mandaic, amulets...." John says as he starts listing.
"Dad..."
"What?" John asks.
"Promise me something." Dean says.
"What's that." John says.
"This thing goes south, just...get the hell out. Don't get yourself killed alright, you're no good to us dead." Dean says.
"Same goes for you three." John says finally acknowledging Ana for once, which shocked her. "Alright, listen to me. They made the bullets special for this Colt. There's only four of them left, without them this gun is useless. You make every shot count."
"Yes, sir." Sam says.
"Been waiting a long time for this fight. Now it's here I'm not gonna be in it. It's up to you guys now. It's your fight, you finish this. You finish what i started. Understand?" John says as he hands Dean the Colt.
"We'll see you soon, Dad." Sam says.
"I'll see you later." John says as he gets in the truck and leaves. The Winchester brothers and Ana stand watching him pull away.
"Later." Dean says.
───※ ·❆· ※───
The three of them are in the Impala, the Colt is between them. The three of them watch through the window as Monica and her husband finish dinner.
"Maybe we could tell 'em it was a gas leak. Might get 'em out of the house for a few hours." Sam suggests as Ana gives him a 'really' look.
"Yeah, and how many times has that actually worked for us?" Ana asks as Sam glanced at Ana for a moment, before turning back to the house.
"Yeah." Sam says as he thinks for some more. "We could always tell 'em the truth."
Dean and Ana look at Sam for a long moment, the two of them have their eyebrows raised. "Nah."
"I know I know. I just...with what's coming for these folks." Sam says.
"Sam, we only got one move, and you know it, alright? We gotta wait for that demon to show itself and then we get it before it gets them." Dean says, as Ana nods her head.
The three of them went back looking at the house for a while. "I wonder how Dad's doing."
"I'd feel a lot better if we were there backing him up." Dean says.
"I'd feel a lot better if he were here backing us up." Sam says, as the three of them watch the house.
"I'd feel a lot better if I was in a motel bed."
"Ana, not the time." Sam says to her which makes her frown.
"What we were talking about our feelings, and I wanted to join, sue me." Ana says as she turned to Sam and stuck out her tongue as Dean couldn't help but smile at Ana.
───※ ·❆· ※───
"This is weird." Sam says.
"What?" Dean asks.
"After all these years, we're finally here. It doesn't seem real." Sam says.
"We just gotta keep our heads and do our job, like always." Dean says, as Ana takes a drink from her water bottle.
"Yeah, but this isn't like always." Sam says.
"True." Dean says.
"Dean...ah...I wanna thank you." Sam says.
"For what?" Dean asks.
"For everything. You've always had my back you know? Even when I couldn't count on anyone, I could always count on you, and now Ana. And ah...I don't know I just wanted to let you know, just in case." Sam says.
"Woah, woah, woah, are you kidding me?" Dean says.
"What?" Sam asks.
"Don't say just in case, something happens to you. I don't wanna hear that freaking speech man. Nobody's dying tonight. Not us, not that family, nobody. Except that demon. That evil son of a bitch ain't getting any older than tonight, you understand me?"
───※ ·❆· ※───
Dean is holding his phone to his ear. "Dad's not answering."
"Maybe Meg was late. Maybe cell reception's bad." Sam says.
"Yeah, well." Dean says, as the radio starts chattering with static.
"Baby, wait, listen." Ana says as Sam rolls the dial on the radio, hearing more static come and go. The wind picks up and the lights flicker in the house. "It's coming. The demon is coming."
The three of them then leap out of the car, as Ana uses a card to slide the lock on the front door open and they enter silently. As they approach the living room, Sam first, then Ana as Dean is confronted by Monica's husband. He swings a bat at Dean's head and misses, smashing a lamp.
"Get out of my house!" Monica's husband yells as Dean quickly closes in and grapples him, grabbing the bat.
"Please, please. Mr. Holden please." Sam says, as Dean easily takes control, swinging him against the wall and holding the bat across his throat.
"Be quiet and listen to me. Be quiet and listen. We are trying to help you." Dean says sharply.
"Charlie? Is everything okay?" Monica asks from upstairs.
"Monica get the baby!"
"Don't go in the nursery!"
"You stay away from her!" Holden yells as he struggles to get away from Dean. Dean backhands him, knocking him unconscious, and puts him over his shoulder in a fireman's lift.
───※ ·❆· ※───
Monica is in her nightgown as she was in Sam's vision, pushes the door to the nursery open as a dark figure stands over Rosie's crib. "What are you...."
The figure raises his hand, and Monica is flung back against the wall. Ana and Sam race up the stairs along the corridor as Monica slides up the wall and onto the ceiling. They enter the room, and the dark figure turns to the two of them, he raises his hand and then, Ana is thrown out of the window like a sack of potatoes as she screams at the top of her lungs. She then stumbles onto the ground, before she stops rolling in the middle of the road unconscious. She has a gash on the side of her head, from where she fell as she has pieces of glass into her skin which was reminisce of the window.
The dark figure's eyes are yellow, and they are shining as Sam hesitates frozen and staring. "Rosie!" Monica yells as Sam raises the Colt and pulls the trigger. The demon disappears into smoke. Monica screams as she falls to the floor.
"Where the hell did it go!" Sam exclaims.
"My baby!" Monica says as she stands trying to move towards the crib, and is caught by Sam. "My baby!" She yells.
"No, wait!"
"MY BABY!" Monica says as she is fighting in Sam's grasp, as Dean runs past them to the crib.
"Take her and go!" Dean says to Monica.
"Rosie!'
"Come on." Sam says as he forced her out of the room. Dean quickly wraps the blankets around the baby and pulls her up as the crib explodes into flames. He then races out of the room.
The nursery window exploded outwards, as there is flame shooting out. There is a smoke-filled front doorway as Monica appears as she was being guided by Sam. Both of them are coughing, Holden staggers up where he was lying on the grass.
"You get away from my family." Holden says.
"No, Charlie don't. They saved us." Holden as he runs out to join them, as he is holding the baby.
"I mean they saved us." Monica says as she begins to cry, she takes the baby from Dean as her husband puts his arms around both of them. "Thank you." She says to Dean and Sam.
The brothers are devastated, Sam and Dean turn back to the burning house. The demon is silhouetted in the burning nursery standing completely still. Sam was starting to head back in the house. "It's still in there!" He says.
Dean grabs his brother. "Sam. Sam, no."
Sam is struggling against his brother. "Dean let me go, it's still in there."
"No, it's burning to the ground, it's suicide." Dean says.
"I don't care." Sam says yelling.
"I do!" They both look back as the flames rise again and the demon disappears. Sam turns his head back and he sees something in the road.
"What is that?" Sam asks, as Dean turns around, as without question he rushes towards the road as he had a sickening feeling about this. Ana was nowhere to be seen. When he got towards Ana who was unconscious in the middle of the road, he grabbed her and held her in his arms. Then without another word, the two brothers rushed towards the Impala.
Dean had a tight grip around Ana in the back seat of the Impala. "Annie?" Dean says softly shaking her awake, but nothing happens. "Annie." He says again as he continues to shake her some more. "Annie, don't do this baby...please." Dean says begging her to wake up. She wasn't going to die on his watch, not if he has something about it. Just when Dean was going to assume the worst that he had just lost the love of his life.
He felt her chest slowly moving up and down, he let out a sigh of relief when he saw that as it meant that she was still alive, which was all that mattered. "Sweetheart."
Once Ana's eyes slowly opened, he could tell that she was a little groggily as she was going to have a massive headache and or a concussion, because she landed from the nursery which is on the second story and fell to the ground and then rolled until she was in the middle of the street. That and she didn't expect to see Dean right there holding her in his arms. "It's okay, I got you." He mutters as Sam drives back to the motel. Despite her pain that she was having right now, all she wanted was Dean. "Everything is gonna be okay." He says softly as Dean continues the motion of him rubbing her back, as he is being careful of the possible wounds that she has. Quite frankly, he doesn't want to know what kind of wounds that she has.
───※ ·❆· ※───
When the three of them got to the motel, Dean absolutely refused, REFUSED to let Ana, walk on her own. He gave her a glare when she tried to get up. He carried her bridal style which of course she had her head on his chest. When they got into the motel room, he put her on top of the bathroom counter and grabbed the first aid kit that he always has in the backseat of the Impala. He knew that the painful parts were going to be him getting the glass shards out. He knew how much Ana hates getting hurt, not that she minds Dean's hands on her, that is a story for another day. But for the sake purpose she is jumpier and flinch when she is hurt.
After he got the stuff that he would need out of the first aid kit, he looked back up at Ana and saw the sad and glum look on her face. He put his index finger underneath her chin as he slowly raised her chin to look at him. He could just see the hurt and painful look on her face, which just broke his heart even more at seeing. He is so used to her being sarcastic, moody, and occasional introverted. Yes, the two of them have been dating for nearly three years, still hard to believe that, but if Dean is being honest, he isn't used to seeing the hurt and painful expressions on her face. Her facial expressions spoke more volumes than words. Just from looking at her, he knows that she is hurting, and she is in pain. "I need you to try to be brave, okay? I know it is going to hurt like a bitch, but it will be okay, babygirl." He says softly to her as her green eyes lowered despite him having his index finger underneath her chin. He isn't going to force her to look at him right now, knowing that she probably doesn't want to. But he will be doing whatever it takes to get this over with for the two of them. If anything, this will hurt him more, than it will hurt her, but he knew that it had to get done.
To make this easier for the two of them, mainly him. So, that he isn't trying to tend to her wounds with her shirt still on. That and not knowing what else kind of wounds or cuts or bruises that she has and not knowing how bad they are. He gently moved his fingers slightly behind her neck, so that he can help her take off her jacket that she was wearing. It has some new cuts and holes because of what happened earlier of Ana literally getting flung out of a window by the yellow-eyed demon. Which Dean is going to kill him for that, because anyone who hurts Ana in anyway shape or form, will have to answer to him. If anyone ever puts a hand on Ana, outside of the small group of friends, Bobby, and him and Sam who are the exception to that rule, but anyone outside of those people they will get a hard punch to the face. He will do whatever it takes to protect his Ana; his babygirl.
He took off her jacket and already from the bat she has a bruise on her shoulder, that looked like a nasty bruise. Then again, she did fall two stories and presumably rolled onto the road. He took a deep breath wanting to keep his emotions in check. He didn't want to scare her if he himself wasn't being brave. Every person has a weak spot that is a weak spot or something that is really sensitive for them. Dean's weak spot in a way is seeing Ana hurt and or in pain. But what is making his heart achier, is that he wasn't there to protect her from the yellow-eyed demon in the first place. It is his job as the boyfriend to protect his girlfriend from harm, no matter what it is. Yes, he in a way roped her into the supernatural hunting life, as before that when she was living at her dad's (Bobby's), she had a semi regular life like a teenager is supposed to have. She went to the mall, she went to school, she went to her friends' houses (the friends that she did have), she had boyfriends, for fucks sake she even went to juvenile detention when she was a teenager. In her defense it was a prank gone wrong, and Ana learned a very valuable lesson when she was in juvenile detention; be careful who you can trust. It was ever since that day that she has a hard time trusting people.
He knew that even if with him helping Ana right now that he isn't going to do this alone. Because all he wants to do is go to bed as it is getting late as is. He just wants to have Ana in his arms, cuddling her while he is sleeping. "Sammy, got a sec?" Dean calls out to his brother as moments later he heard his brother's footsteps coming behind him. "It will be quicker, if we tag team doing this. I need sleep." Dean says to his younger brother as Ana's eyes moved from Dean to the younger Winchester when Dean said that.
With the help of Sam, him and Dean managed to clean off a lot of Ana's wounds, the ones that weren't bruises, but mainly the scratches and cuts. Dean worked on Ana's face of getting the glass shards off of her face. There wasn't that much on her face, but that would be the hardest part to do. Every wince that Ana made when Dean brushed the washcloth that on her cheeks, every hiss she made from the rubbing alcohol disinfected the small cuts from the glass shards that was on her face, every tear that would shed from her eyes because she was in pain, then again Dean can't blame her.
After Dean and Sam were done disinfecting Ana's cuts, Dean wanted to try to call his dad, as he should have been back by now, which he wasn't. Dean was pacing while holding his phone to his ear, listening to it ringing out. Ana was laying on her stomach on her and Dean's shared bed as Sam sits on his bed.
"Come on, Dad, answer your phone damn it." Dean says getting frustrated as he's been trying to call his father but all he is getting is his father's voicemail. Which is something that he doesn't want to hear, especially since his father was supposed to be already back, and he isn't back. "You hear me? Something's wrong." Dean says more so Sam.
"If you had just let me, go in there, I coulda ended all this." Sam says to his brother as Ana looked up from her book as she is reading Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban.
"Sam, the only thing you would have ended was your life." Dean says to his brother.
"You don't know that." Sam says as Dean walks towards Sam's bed.
"So, what you're just willing to sacrifice yourself, is that it?" Dean says as Ana went back to her book, knowing that an argument is coming from the brothers.
"Yeah. Yeah, you're damn right I am." Sam says standing up.
"Well, that's not going to happen, not as long as I'm around." Dean says as Ana sighs from her and Dean's bed.
"What the hell are you talking about, Dean, we've been searching for this demon our whole lives. It's the only thing we've ever cared about." Sam says.
"Sam, I wanna waste it. I do. Okay? But it's not worth dying over." Dean says.
"What?" Sam asks.
"I mean it. If hunting this demon means getting yourself killed, then I hope we never find the damn thing." Dean says to his brother.
"That thing killed Jess. That thing killed Mom." Sam says to his brother.
"You said yourself once, that no matter what we do, they're gone, and they're gone, and they're never coming back." Dean says as Ana looks up at the brothers for a second, then back down to her book.
Sam totally loses it, grabs Dean and shoves him hard against the wall. "Don't you say that, not you! Not after all this, don't you say that."
"Sam look. The four of us...that's all we have, and it's all I have. Sometimes I feel like I'm barely holding it together man...and without Ana, without you or Dad..."
"Dad." Sam says upset as he lets go of Dean and turns away, walking across the room. Dean stays where he is, taking deep breaths. "He should have called by now. Try him again."
───※ ·❆· ※───
John's phone sits on a bench ringing, Meg wanders over and picks it up. She looks at the screen and smiles to herself and she answers. "You guys really screwed up this time."
"Where is he?" Dean says angrily.
"You're never going to see your father again." Meg says as Ana looks up at Dean, more like Meg as her eyebrows raised a little.
