08: Butterfly

CHAPTER EIGHT

❝Butterfly❞

「 Ulysses 」

I stared at the two people as they entered the cabin, laughing and talking like they were old friends—which they were.

Adelaide's eyes shifted from the guy, who I recall is named Cole, and turned her attention to Pink, who was rummaging through her big bag of clothes. When her eyes landed on me, the heliotrope color in them seemed to drain. Her mouth twitched, making me stifle a laugh.

She shot me a look like, Don't talk to me.

Never was going to. I told her with my eyes. She scrunched her nose at me and walked past me, heading for Pink, who immediately squealed at the sight of her.

Cole laughed, shaking his head. "Girls." He came up to me and smiled, revealing a dimple on his left cheek. He held a hand out. "Pink told me about you. I'm Cole."

He was taller than me by about an inch, which kinda irritated me. I shook his hand anyway. "Ulysses."

"Cool," His smile made me smile back. He glanced over my shoulder towards the girls. "Need any help?"

Adelaide shook her head. "No—"

"That would be helpful!" Pink interrupted, her mint green eyes sparkling.

"Alright," Cole chuckled. He nodded his at me. "Nice meeting you, man."

I nodded back. "Same here."

He headed over and started helping Pink carry her bags to her room, leaving Adelaide and I alone.

She quickly slung her sling bag around her. "I'm going to my room."

I frowned. "We're cabin-mates."

"Yes," She sighed. "Didn't you read the room assignment paper thing?"

"Pink was too excited. She didn't bother telling me, so she just led the way as I followed her."

She snorted. "That sounds like a very Ulysses thing to do."

"Weren't you about to go to your room?"

"Yes, until you started talking to me," As she was about to enter the girls' section, Cole came out from helping Pink. They both acknowledge each other and went along their ways. The cabin consisted of six bed rooms in two sections. Supposedly there are three boys and three girls separately in those two sections. The boys' section was just across from the girls' section.

Cole took his backpack, glanced at me and nodded towards the boy section, indicating he'll get organized and get some rest. I nodded in understanding. He closed the door behind him, and I was left to myself, with little chattering sounds coming from the girls' room.

I decided to get some fresh air and headed for the front porch of the cabin. I sat on the brown wooden bench, looking at campers from the distance playing, organizing, or getting down to business.

The breeze gently blew in my ears, making me feel a little sleepy all of a sudden.

Just as I was about to close my eyes, I caught a glimpse of a butterfly fluttering by—It looked like the same one that landed on my fingers when Adelaide and I were at that park.

Mom...

My vision blurred and I shut my eyes, feeling the slight touch of the morning sun against my skin.

Yes, this was a slightly shorter chapter, and it was on Ulysses's point of view. So now you know this book won't only be on Adelaide's perspective. :')

And yes, I noticed there isn't a "Summer Lie" here, and no, I didn't forget.

Do you know what butterflies symbolize?
