❝Awake❞

【Adelaide】
I awoken at first light.
Slowly and gently, I rose from my pink plush bed and sat there for a few minutes as I watched the morning sun greet my eyes.
My long hair tumbled down my shoulders as I stretched my arms and let out a light yawn.
Or at least, that's how I'd like to think I wake up.
Truthfully, I usually wake up very late, almost near noon. My hair would be tangled up, it could be mistaken as a bird's nest my eyes bulging out with fifty shades of eyebags, and my breath like the dead.
The night before, I'd usually stay up late, spending my time playing video games or using my technological devices.
The night before this one, I promised I'd wake up early and fresh.
Summer Lie #1: Waking up early.
I rubbed my eyes and muttered a few words under my breath as I made my way to the bathroom. I turned on the faucet and splashed my face with cold water, then wiped it with a face towel.
I stood there, my hands gripping on the towel as I stared at my reflection in the mirror with a dead expression.
Seriously now. Why can't I wake up beautifully?
Just then, I heard someone yelp behind me and I flinched.
"Adelaide!" My big sister, Athena, held her hand to her chest and calmed herself down. "Can you stop doing that?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Do what?"
"Every morning, you just stand there like a mannequin while staring at the mirror. It's seriously creepy." Athena narrowed her eyes and shook her head. "Whatever. It's already lunch time. Your breakfast is in the fridge. Just heat it up."
With that, she went downstairs, leaving me still half-awake and half-asleep.
I made my way downstairs and to the kitchen. The house was quiet. Seems like my parents are out for work.
As I took out a bowl of porridge from the fridge and heated it up in the microwave, something seemed to be nagging me in my mind—like I'm forgetting something. I shrugged it off.
Once the microwave's timer went off, I took out the porridge, went to my dining room, and started digging in.
Athena walked in, the room, holding a box of supplies from college.
She knit her eyebrows. "Now that I remember, aren't you supposed to be out today?"
"What do you mean?" I asked in between bites.
"See," Athena placed the box she held on the table and leaned on the wall. "I got a call from a friend of yours earlier. Something to do with a party around 1 sharp in a park."
Wait...
I choked. "Uh, what time is it?"
Athena looked at her wrist watch. "12:30 PM."
Before I could choke even more on porridge, my sister let out a sigh and brought out a chain, several keys dangling on them. One of them included a car key. "Get ready in ten minutes. I'll drive you there."
"But—"
"I also need to go somewhere. If you can't do that, you're walking." She carried the box of supplies and left the room.
With brilliant timing, I remembered what I was forgetting.
