Sn1 Ep2: Hawk and Dove- Part 6

Alison's POV

Dawn's face was just about what I expected it to be when she opened the door. Rachel did the weird freeze up thing she just did to me as she shook Dawn's hand.

"Can the three of us talk?" Dick breaks up the introductions.

"You're about four years too late, but sure," Dawn remarks the last time she saw him. "Are you actually gonna talk?" She turns me.

"Well I guess we'll see, won't we?" I fake a smile then push my way through everyone since no one's seeming to move. Dawn steps out of the way and opens the door wider once I pass.

"Wow. This place is huge," Rachel comments. If she thinks this place is big she wouldn't know what to do with herself at Wayne Manor.

Dawn took the three of us up to the roof to talk. Rachel is occupying herself with dove's in a cage while Dick fills Dawn in. I pull out my flask going to take a sip as he finishes, but I'm met with nothing. Oh, right. I finished it at the police station. Damn it.

"She killed someone?" Dawn asks in disbelief. "She's just a kid."

I chuckle quietly, "Like that'll stop someone."

"Put that away," Dick whisper-shouts to me as Rachel glances over at us.

"Alright, alright. It's empty anyways," I mutter annoyed as Dawn looks at me concerned.

"Whoever they are, they've got people in the department," Dick steers the conversation back. "We needed somewhere safe to regroup. Think about what I'm gonna do." Yep that's right, you got us into this mess, you handle it yourself.

"What about Bruce?" Dawn suggests as Dick sips the coffee we were offered, causing him to spit it back out as his eyes go wide.

"He's no good with kids," He shuts that down.

"As if Dick would call him anyways," I jeer.

"So you still with Bruce?" Dawn turns to me.

"Course she is," Dick murmurs into his coffee.

I side-glare him. "Yes. But this isn't our mess to fix," I explain why I'm not calling him.

"Like she could call anyways" Dick laughs quietly.

This time I fully whip around. "You know what."

Dawn's eyes widen. "So cop, huh?" She hurriedly intervenes. "That's one I never would've figured." I let out a hard laugh.

"What, self-righteous prick didn't seem fitting to you?" I sneer.

She goes to sit on the bench, not saying anything else. Dick tips his head towards it asking if I want to sit, taking it when I shake my head no. How much longer are we gonna be out here?

"How are you?" He asks her.

"We're great," She answers, "Hank's feeling the life a little. Age waits for no man and all that." Oh boy.

"How bad?" Dick grimaces.

"Two fractures, three concussions in the last year, and a herniated disk," She lists off. Damn, how's Hank even still breathing?

"Jesus, Dawn," Dick shakes his head.

"We're still good out there, really good," She defends, "Not one slip-up."

"You won't be any good dead," I pipe up.

"You should quit, you both should," Dick tells her. You know it's bad when he's right.

"That's the plan," She smiles to us, "Soon as we take out these gun suppliers he's obsessed with."

"Dawn," I interject, "You two need a retirement plan not a suicide mission."

"One more chance to do some good and he promised he's out," She insists. Dick glances up at me for a moment, unsure. "You two could help us out," Dawn rushes out.

Turning his attention back to her, he quickly shuts her down, "I'm out of the life, Dawn." I snort quietly. Rightttt. As if he wasn't playing Robin the other day back in Detroit?

"And I'm on break," I tell her, shifting legs uncomfortably.

"Hey, what the hell are you two doing here, Dick, Alison," Hank's harsh voice rings out as he walks over to us. Here we go.

Dawn and Dick stand.

"Hank," Dawn tries to settle him.

"We had a situation," Dick starts.

"Nice little reunion you got going here. You two kiss and make up," Hank digs at Dick and I.

"Oh fuck off Hank," I roll my eyes.

"Hank," Dawn repeats, adverting her eyes over to Rachel. Oh yeah, forgot she was up here.

Hank slowly turns around, "What the fuck?" I hold in my laugh, how does he manage so say that in a way I'll always find funny?

"Can we just go back inside, please?" Dawn calmly asks. He looks back to us and I cross my arms as if baiting him to try something again, but Dawn takes off and he follows.

"That went well," Dick sighs.

"Could've went worse," I shrug.

3rd Person Pov

Hank takes a sip of his beer as Dawn walks in undoing her braid.

"I put Rachel in the spare room and Dick and Alison on the couches, much to Alison's dismay," Dawn informs Hank as she heads for their bathroom. "Hopefully her and Dick can be civil while they're sleeping," She not so jokingly jokes. After what she saw between them on the roof earlier she just hopes at least one of them falls asleep fast.

"It's goddamn summer camp," Hank snaps. "What're they doing here anyway? Together for that matter," He mutters that last part. Hank never thought he'd see that sight again. "Hell of a coincidence they show up here night before a job."

"Coincidences happen. What, you think I called them? Even I'm not powerful enough to get those two at the same place," She says. "But now that they're here we can use their help."

Hank thinks back to how upset Dawn was when Alison made it crystal clear she didn't want their help. So why should they need hers? He doesn't even go down the Dick road. "We don't need them. We've been fine," He states firmly.

"We have been. But fine might not be enough to shut this gun op down," Dawn tells him. "The four of us are unstoppable. We could go out on the win you want," She tries to convince him, "And then you can heal, get better. We can get better."

"They won't help us," Hank shakes his head no, "They only watch out for themselves, not even each other. People don't change, babe," Hanks tells her as he exits the room.

"We'll see," Dawn says to herself.
