MASTERS OF THE AIR SET
london, england
april 12, 2024
friday
11am
it had been two weeks and callum was filming consecutively. it was like a routine. he'd come home, eat, spend time with me, sleep and the next day head to work. i decided to take a step out of being tucked away in the penthouse and to visit him on set.
i made my way to the film set, excitement and nervousness mixing in my stomach. i had never really seen callum in action before, i'd only heard stories from him at home.
as i entered the set, i was immediately struck by how different the atmosphere was from the outside world. everything seemed more intense, more focused. there was a sense of concentration amongst the crew as they prepared for the next scene.
i searched through the set for callum, but it was difficult to spot him in the sea of people. finally, i saw him standing by a camera, talking with the director and the camera team.
he hadn't noticed me yet, his attention completely focused on his work. it seemed like he was in 'work mode,' serious and determined. i took a moment to observe him, appreciating how much he loved his craft.
after a few minutes, he seemed to sense my presence. his eyes lifted and met mine across the set. surprise and happiness washed over his features as he spotted me. he excused himself from the crew and walked over to me.
"look at you in your combat gear." i said as i tugged on it.
he chuckled, a bit of a blush appearing on his cheeks. "yeah, i feel like a completely different person when i wear this stuff." he said, his hand smoothing down his uniform.
"well, i think you look damn good in it." i said with a smirk, my eyes trailing over his figure.
he chuckled again, the blush deepening. "thanks. i feel pretty badass in it, not gonna lie." he said with a smile.
i chuckled at his admission, enjoying his confidence. "i bet. and i think everyone's swooning over you in this get-up." i teased, glancing around at the other crew members stealing glances at him.
he smirked and leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "yeah, but i only care if you're swooning over me." he said with a wink, a hint of playfulness in his eyes.
"is this an american accent i hear?" i said gesturing to the american accent he was speaking to me in.
he chuckled and ran a hand through his hair, a bit sheepishly. "yeah, sorry. i've been immersed in the script for the past few days. it's hard to break out of character."
i smiled, amused by his dedication to his role. "hey, it's okay. i like the american accent, it's cute." i teased, playfully poking his arm.
he grinned, his usual british accent peeking through for a moment. "cute, huh? i might have to use it more often then." he said, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
i smiled and held out a bag, "anyway, i brought you some pastries." i looked around the set seeing food. "now i feel kind of stupid since there's already so much food."
he chuckled and took the bag from me, peering inside at the pastries. "no, i appreciate it. crew food is great, but it's usually healthy stuff. these pastries are a nice treat." he said, his tone genuine.
i smiled, happy that i could bring him a small piece of sweetness amidst the intensity of his work. "i figured you might need a sugar boost to keep you going."
he wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer, a grateful smile on his face. "you're the best, you know that?" he said, giving me a tight squeeze before kissing my temple.
i smiled, feeling warm and fuzzy from the affection. "i know, you tell me every day." i said, nudging his side.
i looked over as i heard my name. "kacey! hey!" barry keoghan said as he made his way over to callum and i.
barry's carefree demeanor instantly put me at ease. i smiled as he approached us, his familiar irish accent bringing back fond memories. "hey, barry! good to see you."
he grinned widely and gave me a big hug. "it's great to see you too. i was wondering when you were gonna show up on set."
i hugged him back, feeling a sense of warmth and comfort from his familiar presence. "i finally had some time to swing by. i wanted to surprise callum." i said, glancing up at callum next to me.
callum smiled and wrapped an arm around my waist, drawing me closer. barry chuckled, his eyes shifting between us. "i bet he was pretty happy to see you." he said, his tone playful.
i chuckled and nodded, feeling callum's hand on my waist send a small shiver up my spine. "yeah, he seemed pretty happy." i said, glancing up at callum again, who was looking down at me with a soft, affectionate gaze.
the director called out for barry, beckoning him over. he let out a sigh and rolled his eyes. "duty calls." he said with a chuckle. "we'll catch up later."
i nodded and smiled as he gave me one more quick hug before heading off to work. i turned back to callum, who was watching me closely.
he wrapped his arms around my waist again and pulled me closer, his eyes searching mine. "you two seem close." he said, his voice a mix of curiosity and amusement.
i chuckled and nodded, leaning into his embrace. "yeah, we've known each other for a while now. he's one of jacob's closest friends and he's daisy's boyfriend." i explained, enjoying the feeling of being close to him.
callum's expression seemed to tighten slightly at the mention of jacob. he nodded, his jaw clenching a bit before relaxing. "right, jacob." he said, his tone betraying a hint of annoyance.
i noticed the slight change in his demeanor, sensing a hint of jealousy in his tone. i reached up and placed a hand on his cheek, gently pulling his attention back to me.
"don't worry about jacob," i said, my voice soft but firm. "he's in the past. it's all about us now." i leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, trying to reassure him.
he sighed and relaxed under my touch, clearly affected by the kiss. he pulled me even closer, his arms wrapping tighter around my waist. "i know...it's just...hearing his name still triggers something in me." he admitted, his breath warm against my skin.
i caressed his cheek, feeling an ache in my chest at his honesty. i understood the pain of being reminded of a past relationship. "i get it. it's hard not to feel a pang of jealousy when his name comes up. but you have nothing to worry about." i said, my voice gentle yet serious.
he let out a small scoff, his grip on me loosening slightly. "it's not just jealousy, kacey. it's more than that." he admitted, his tone gruff. he looked down at me, his gaze intense. "i hate knowing that you were once engaged to him. i hate thinking about it."
i was taken aback by the intensity in his voice, but i understood his feelings. i placed a hand on his chest, feeling his heart beating rapidly beneath it. "callum, that's all in the past. it was an engagement built on familiarity and convenience, not love." i said, trying to make him understand.
he seemed to soften slightly at my words, his breathing slowing down. "i know, i know..." he said, his voice quieter now. "it's just...hard to shake off."
i nodded sympathetically, understanding the complexity of his feelings. i ran my hand up and down his back, feeling the tension in his muscles slowly ease. "it's okay to have those feelings, callum. it's normal. but we need to focus on what we have now." i said, looking up at him intently.
he nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "you're right, kacey. i'm overthinking it." he said, his eyes softening as he looked at me. he took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "i'm sorry for reacting like that."
i shook my head, not wanting him to feel guilty. "don't apologize. your feelings are valid. i get it." i said, smiling gently at him. "but i promise you, there's nothing to worry about. it's all you and me now."
callum's eyes searched mine for a moment, filled with a mix of relief and a hint of desire. "you always know what to say, don't you?" he said, his voice low and sultry.
i smirked, enjoying the effect my words had on him. "i have my moments." i said, tilting my chin up slightly.
without another word, he leaned down and captured my lips in a gentle but passionate kiss. i melted into the kiss, my arms wrapping around his neck tightly. his hands gripped my waist, pulling me closer to him. everything around us seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of us in our own little bubble.
i pulled away and smiled at him. "i don't want to hold you up from working." i said with a small smile.
he chuckled and shook his head, his eyes still locking onto mine. "trust me, i'd rather be kissing you right now than filming." he said, his voice husky. he reluctantly let go of my waist and stepped back slightly. "but you're right. i should get back to work before the director gets pissed off."
i chuckled and nodded, feeling a pang of disappointment as his touch left me. "yeah, you should probably go save your job." i joked, stepping back a bit as well. "so i'll see you at home?"
he laughed and nodded, his eyes still fixed on me. "yeah, you'll see me at home." he said, a hint of yearning in his voice.
i smiled warmly at him, feeling a pang of longing for his touch. "good. i'll see you then." i said, giving him a small wave before turning to walk away.

CALUM'S PENTHOUSE
london, england
12pm
as i made my way into the building, a dog came up to me barking. i crouched down and smiled as the dog approached, instantly softening at its cuteness. "well, hello there." i said warmly, reaching out a hand to let the stray dog sniff me.
the dog was friendly and seemed curious about me, its tail wagging eagerly. i gently stroked its head, feeling its soft fur against my hand.
i chuckled as the dog nuzzled its face against my hand, clearly enjoying the attention. "aren't you a sweet one?" i cooed, scratching behind its ears.
i spent a few minutes playing with the dog, feeling my heart fill with affection as it wagged its tail and licked my hand. i felt around its collar to try and see if the dog had a tag.
to my surprise, there was no collar or tag on the dog. it seemed like it was a stray, wandering around the city by itself. i felt a pang of sadness at the thought of the dog being alone.
i couldn't call callum since he was on set, so i called my sister, kendall.
i pulled out my phone and dialed kendall's number, the dog still circling around my legs. after a few rings, she picked up. "kacey, it's 4am." kendall groaned.
"sorry, i forgot about the time difference...but i need your advice," i said softly.
there was a pause from the other end of the line before kendall spoke again, her tone softening. "what's up?"
i hesitated for a moment, looking down at the dog at my feet. "i found a stray dog outside callum's penthouse. it doesn't have a collar and i don't know what to do." i said, my voice laced with concern. "like, would i be crazy to bring the dog up?"
there was a soft chuckle from kendall. "only something you would do, kace." she said, her tone playful. "no, it doesn't make you crazy. you've always had a heart for animals." i could picture her rolling her eyes affectionately.
i nodded as if she could see me. "i know but it's not my house...it's callum's penthouse."
there was a beat of silence before kendall responded. "okay, i see your point." she admitted. "but callum loves animals too, right? i doubt he'd be mad." she said with a shrug.
"honestly, i haven't seen him interact with an animal once." i said with a sigh as i glanced at the fluffy dog who was sniffing me.
there was a pause on kendall's end before she spoke again, her voice slightly amused. "seriously? he's never shown any affection for animals?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"no it's not that, i've just never seen him around animals." i explained.
"oh..." was all kendall responded with, her voice trailing off. i could practically hear the wheels turning in her head. "well, i think you should still bring the dog up." she said finally.
i bit my lip, still feeling unsure. "really? you don't think he'll be upset?" i asked, my voice hesitating slightly.
"i don't think so," kendall replied confidently. "callum may seem serious sometimes, but he has a soft spot, especially for you. bringing a stray dog home might even surprise him."
i couldn't help but smile at her words. "you're probably right..." i said, looking down at the dog again. "i guess it doesn't hurt to try. and he's so adorable." i said referring to the dog.
"exactly." kendall said, her voice firm. "and who could resist that cuteness, right?" she teased. "besides, i'm sure callum will love having a furry friend around. it'll give him someone to share his snacks with."

6:30pm
as i was in the kitchen cooking lemon garlic shrimp pasta, the penthouse door opened, meaning callum was home. as soon as he walked in, the dog barked at him.
i heard the sound of the door opening and the dog bark in response. i quickly turned down the heat on the stove and poked my head out of the kitchen area. i saw callum standing in the doorway, a surprised expression on his face as he looked down at the dog.
"surprise." i said with jazz hands as i studied his reaction.
he looked up at me, his expression a mix of confusion and amusement. "surprise, indeed..." he said, slowly walking further into the penthouse.
the dog padded after him, its tongue hanging out as it looked up at him with wide eyes. callum stopped in his tracks when he noticed the dog and turned to me with a raised eyebrow.
i smiled sheepishly at him. "well, it's kind of a funny story." i said, leaning against the kitchen countertop. "i was standing outside, waiting to come up, and the dog was just wandering around. i'm guessing he was a stray, because he didn't have a collar."
callum seemed to soften at my words, his eyes lingering on the dog for a moment. "so you just let the dog in the building?" he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.
i chuckled and nodded. "yeah, pretty much." i admitted. "there was no one around, and i couldn't just leave the poor thing outside." i explained, my tone earnest. "but, if you don't want him then we'll have to find a good home for him."
callum looked at me for a moment before his gaze drifted back to the dog. he knelt down and scratched behind its ears, which made the dog let out a small whine of contentment.
"he's pretty cute." he said, a hint of a smile on his lips. "and soft." he added, ruffling the dog's fur before standing back up again.
i felt a wave of relief wash over me as i saw his reaction. it seemed like he wasn't upset, but rather fond of the new furry addition to our home. i made my way back into the kitchen and continued cooking.
"dinner's almost ready, so you can shower if you want." i called over my shoulder as i checked on the pasta.
"yeah, that's a good idea." he replied, his footsteps echoing through the penthouse. "i'll be quick."
i smiled to myself as i heard the sound of the shower turning on. i continued cooking, feeling a sense of contentment knowing that callum wasn't upset about the dog.
~~
a few moments later, callum emerged from the shower, dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt. he walked over to me in the kitchen, his hair still damp from the shower.
i glanced up at him and smiled, noticing the way the light caught in his hair. "nice shower?" i asked, pouring the pasta into two bowls.
callum chuckled and rested a hand in the small of my back, his touch intimate and familiar. "yeah, it was nice." he said, his voice a bit huskier than usual.
i shivered slightly at his touch, feeling a flutter in my stomach at the sound of his voice. "good." i said, trying to keep my focus on the food. i handed him a bowl of pasta.
he took the bowl and thanked me before taking a seat at the dining table. i followed suit, sitting across from him with my own bowl. i glanced over at the dog who was eating out of his own food bowl and smiled.
"he already made himself comfortable." i chuckled, nodding at the dog who was happily munching on his food. callum looked over at the dog and chuckled as well.
"it seems so." he said, his eyes drifting back to me. "i can't believe you just let a stray dog into the building." he said, his tone teasing.
i laughed and rolled my eyes. "i couldn't just leave him outside. he was hungry and alone." i said, my tone unapologetic. "besides, he's been pretty well-behaved so far."
callum chuckled and shook his head, seeming amused by my compassion. "i should've known you'd have a soft spot for strays." he said, taking a bite of his dinner.
"so...can we keep him?" i asked the question that i've been dying to have answered.
callum stopped mid-bite and looked at me, his expression thoughtful. "keep him?" he echoed, his tone questioning.
i nodded, a hint of pleading in my eyes. "yeah, i mean, he has nowhere else to go and he's so sweet." i said, my voice hopeful. "plus, he likes us already."
callum leaned back in his seat and ran a hand through his hair, seemingly considering my suggestion. after a moment, he let out a sigh. "i have to admit, he's grown on me a little," he said, a hint of a smile playing at his lips.
i smiled widely, excitement flooding through me. "so is that a yes?" i asked, trying not to let my eagerness show too much.
callum chuckled at my enthusiasm and nodded. "yeah, i guess it is." he said, a hint of resignation in his voice. but i could see the small smile on his lips.
i let out a squeal of excitement and jumped up from my seat, barely able to contain my joy. i ran around the table and threw my arms around callum, hugging him tightly.
callum was taken aback by my sudden embrace and chuckled, wrapping his arms around me in return. "somebody's excited." he teased, his voice muffled as i buried my face in his chest.
"i can't help it," i said, pulling back slightly to look at him. "i'm just so happy you said yes." a wide grin spread across my face, my eyes sparkling with excitement.
"don't forget he's gonna need his shots," callum reminded me.
i nodded, my enthusiasm slightly dimmed. "yeah, you're right. we'll make an appointment tomorrow." i said, my mind already racing with plans for the dog. "but first, can we name him?"
callum chuckled and nodded, seeming amused by my eagerness. "yeah, we can name him." he agreed, his eyes still on me. "any ideas?"
i thought for a moment, my mind running through possible names. suddenly, an idea hit me. "how about bear?" i suggested.
callum nodded. "bear." he repeated before continuing, "bear seems fitting."
i beamed at him, loving the sound of the name. "perfect." i said, my heart swelling with affection for the furry addition to our home.
