Chapter 15: Chaotic Happenings

To V/n's surprise, the U-STOR-IT was dark and eerily silent when she snuck through its front gates.
It was as if it was just a storage facility instead of some super-villain hideout.

The only abnormal detail to the otherwise plain-looking scene was the abundance of red lego bricks everywhere. They coated the floor in small heaps, and while they were pretty out of place, V/n didn't regard them as important.

As she continued, V/n caught sight of something that made her come to a sudden halt. A few feet in front of her stood a storage unit larger than the others she had seen thus far, and in the large space of floor in front of it, laid a small tinfoil mask.

V/n cautiously examined it as she crept closer. It didn't look dangerous, but she couldn't afford the risk. She crouched down to pick it up, looking it over.

What was it doing there? Was it some kind of trick? A distraction, maybe?

Before V/n had a chance to answer any of her own questions, a blaring light thudded on above her. A familiar laugh echoed everywhere around her, but she had no idea where it was coming from. She spang up, nimbly, getting herself into a defensive position.

"Where are you?!" She called out. "Show yourself, you assfucker!"

"Assfucker," He sang it as though it was a lovely sounding foreign word. "Never heard that one before."
V/n began to retort but was cut off by the sound of ear-splitting static. She flinched against the noise, and, combined with the blinding light from overhead, stunned her for what felt like ages.

When she regained her focus, she was surprised to see a face. Scratch that, it was a huge face. V/n glared up at her foe and he glared back just as keenly. Had that large television screen always been there? If so, she hadn't noticed it.

"So V/n, we finally meet." Professor Chaos folded his hands, resting his chin on top of them lightly. "Welcome to my super evil lair. I trust you brought the folders I requested?"

. . .Shit. She knew she forgot something. In her fit of rage, she had forgotten to grab the documents she needed for this stupid negotiation while she shoved her way out of that dumb fucking meeting at that dumb fucking coffee shop.

"What's so important about those files, anyway?" She scowled. Maybe she could change the subject and make him forget about those stupid documents.

The blonde boy's smug expression fell. For a quick second, he looked upset, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Two of my friends went missing. I needed those folders because they contain the passwords for their student accounts, which I would be able to use to. . ." He caught himself before revealing too much. "But that's not any of your business. Now, show me that you have the folders, then I'll leave your little hacker pal for you outside."

V/n inhaled. There was no stalling him. She had to come clean.

"Well, you see, I don't have them. But! I still feel the need to say that I'm going to be taking my partner back anyway. I'll drag his unconscious body out of here if I need to. He owes me that for the detention incident."

Chaos's eyes widened in fury. He opened his mouth to shout, but it wasn't before V/n took out her f/w and swiftly hurled it at the center of the screen. It buzzed with staticky color as the weapon impaled it before abruptly shutting down.

V/n immediately began to run. Now that Professor Chaos knew she didn't have what he wanted, he was most likely going to assassinate her for invading his base. She pulled her grappling hook off of her utility belt, grappling up to the roof of the large storage unit in front of her.

V/n leaped from unit to unit, ignoring her lack of breath and instead focused on the determination pushing her forward.

She was going to save her sister, and some tinfoil-clad twerp was not going to get in her way. She wouldn't allow it.

As V/n continued running along the rooftops, something caught her eye on the row of storage units parallel to hers. Across from her stood two kids in striped shirts and cloth masks, who stared right back at her.
One whispered to the other. The recipient of the whisper nodded and turned around to grab something.

"Ugh, I can't be bothered with this," V/n thought. "I have to keep moving. I need to find-"

"FIRE THE LAVA CANNON!"

"Wait what."

Before V/n could process the yell that had derailed her train of thought, a gigantic spew of red lego bricks came hurtling towards her from the other side of the unit row. She quickly dodged the attack, winded by its abnormal speed.
Bewildered, she glared over at the boys who fired at her.
"Hey, what the fuck is your problem?!" She yelled.

The kids in the striped shirts did nothing but snicker. One was holding a sort of hand-cannon, and he looked as though he was about to take aim at V/n again. She scoffed and turned to leave. These were most likely Professor Chaos's hired help, measly grunts who most likely don't have I.Q's above 20, and that was being generous. She didn't have time to bro down with these clods.

"Uh." V/n paused. There were now more grunts. They were on her side of the storage units, though. She hastily whirled around to run the other way, maybe there was another route she could take to the central unit. She was blocked off there too. They encircled her on all sides, almost like a wall.
"Hm, a meat wall," V/n murmured. She rolled her eyes. "Impressive."

As if triggered by her words, they all simultaneously began to move in, minimizing her chance to make a quick exit. More canon-equipped grunts had assembled themselves on the other side of the units, all of them taking aim at the sarcastic h/c(ette) and preparing to fire. The girl in question shook her head.
"Y'know, this would've been a better plan if you guys hadn't have left me an entire wall open to escape."

The grunts all looked briefly confused before catching on to what she was talking about. They may have cut off her chance to run off to another storage unit, but they left an entire edge of the area open towards the ground. They must not have counted on her jumping down.

Oh, but jump down she did.

The cannon wielders still shot their 'lava cannons' in a vain attempt to nail her, but V/n was too quick for them. While their red rivulets hit the grunts in the wall formation, she had landed gracefully on the concrete below, snickering at their blood-curdling screeches. V/n would've loved to see how much damage a bunch of legos could do.

"Can't get distracted though," She sighed. "Gotta stay focused."

"Focused on what? Evading your death?"

V/n spun around, her fists raised. Flicking her gaze upward, she sighed and dropped her hands to her sides, glaring up at yet another television screen with Chaos's stupid baby face on it.

Sassily, she placed her hands on her hips and tossed her h/l hair over her shoulder. "I've been doing a great job of that, thank you very much." He scoffed.
"Did you honestly believe that I was just gonna let you waltz into my base to take back your sidekick? Our agreement was simple, you didn't hold up your end on the bargain. Now, you will fall to the might of Chaos's minions! Muahahaha!"

Before V/n could fabricate a sarcastic retort, a door from the storage unit in front of her began to mechanically whir open. It was lifting itself up at a prolonged pace, but once completely open, there wasn't even anything in there. No threatening silhouettes, no menacing laughter. (Well, besides Chaos's attempt at what V/n thought was an evil laugh.) V/n folded her arms and raised an eyebrow at the boy on the television. "Is this a joke?"

"Oh yes it is, but it isn't a very funny one! Because soon you won't be laughing!"

"I haven't laughed once since getting here. You really need to up your comedy game, Chaos."

"But you were just laughing at my minions getting hit with lava- UGH! God, I wish The New Kid was here. They know how girls work. They would also know where the MINIONS I stationed here were supposed to be!"
Chaos slumped his head into his hands, letting out an agitated sigh. His eyes fell a bit; he looked on the verge of tears. V/n's eyes softened.

"Sounds like I'm not the only one who misses their partner," She remarked wearily.

"Well, I mean, working with Coon's okay and all, but between the two of us, he's kind of a douchebag. I just really miss my old pals."

V/n understood his laments perfectly. This guy was willing to put anyone through hell if it meant getting back his friends back, and there was no doubt that V/n would do the exact same for her own sister, had their roles been switched.

They were two bad guys who wanted nothing more than to see their loved ones safe.

"Hey, wait a second," V/n thought. "Maybe if I'm able to get him into an alliance, he'll let Virus go!"

She looked up into the cerulean eyes of the moping boy on the television, feeling confident in the plan that she was forming in her brain.

"Hey Professor," She began solemnly, putting on a sad face. "I know how you feel. I want more than anything to make sure my partner is safe, he means everything to me. You must feel the exact same about your 'New Kid.' I want to help you find your friends, and maybe there's a way I can."

Professor Chaos tilted his head slightly in confused curiosity. "What're you talking about?"

She had his attention. Good.

"There's a reason so many people have been going missing lately," She continued. "There's a cult that's invaded this town, they're the ones who I think have been abducting everyone."

"A cult? Why haven't I heard of this?" V/n shook her head. "I can explain everything later. What's important is that. . . I've recently found their base!"

Lying was a specialty of V/n's. Of course, her conscious never let her feel good about that, but right now she couldn't be botherd with her morals. Once her she had her sister her false claims and lies wouldn't matter. None of them would.

"You found their base? Then where is it?" Chaos's question snapped V/n out of her pool of thoughts.

"Actually, to be more specific, it was Virus that found where their base was. I mean, he almost found it, before your guys abducted him. If you release him he can finish his process and we can go rescue everyone!" As soon as it came out of her mouth, V/n knew it sounded like bullshit. He wasn't gonna fall for that.

"Well then, why shouldn't I just keep him and make him do it here? You're definitely not someone I should blindly trust."
Ugh, she called it. Looks he wasn't going to fall for her charade, sadly.

On the bright side, threatening people had always been way more fun.

V/n smirked, her pearly teeth glinting in the overhead light. "Well, I'll tell you why-"

Before V/n could snarl any profanities at the blonde villain, Professor Chaos put a finger up to silence her. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a phone, which V/n only now noticed was blaring annoyingly loud pop music. That had to be even worse than Virus's ringtone, which was about a Swedish man fricking a creeper. He swiftly picked up, speaking to the caller in a hushed tone.

Or, at least Chaos thought his tone was hushed. In actuality, V/n could hear every single word he was whispering. She casually leaned in. Maybe something of interest was being discussed.

"Wait wait- What do you mean? More intruders? That's not- wait, what do they- Red robes?"
V/n froze. No, she must have heard him wrong; there weren't any red-robed people, there couldn't be.

Chaos's frenzied whispers soon grew into angry shouting, but it all sounded blurred to V/n. In fact, she couldn't hear anything at all, except for a distinct shrill ring that seemed to exist only to her own head.

Everything was so disorienting that she didn't even notice Professor Chaos let out a short scream and limply fall to the ground. She didn't notice his body being dragged off to the side, but there was something she was able to distinctly make out through the anarchic scene unfolding before her.

The distinct red silk that engulfed the screen, and the face of a figure she saw in a dream.

"Hello, daughter of M/n," He spoke in an all too familiar tone. "I haven't seen you since you were an infant."

"My my, how you've grown."
