Osamu Dazai | The Writer
"Why hello there, mind if I sit here?" The bandaged man asked you for permission despite sitting in the seat opposite you before you could even answer.
"I'm Dazai, I work for the detective agency upstairs. I haven't seen your pretty face in this café before... What's your name?" He leaned his face into his hands as he looked at you with some interest. His eyes then slightly widen in realization, "Oh! But please don't tell Kunikida-kun I'm here!"
"Uh, who?"
Dazai smirked, "Kunikida-kun is my... coworker. I'm supposed to be working right now" he laughed as he leaned back in his chair, "he doesn't know that I left to get some coffee here. I don't really like the coffee in the agency... It's kinda bland."
"Oh, I see. Well hello, Dazai, I'm Y/N L/N!"
"That's a really pretty name!" Dazai's eyes sparkled as he grinned towards you, "I'm sorry if I came off as sudden. I guess I just thought you were really pretty, so I wanted to ask you what your name was... Haha, I guess you could say it sounded like I was hitting on you?"
"I suppose, yes!?" You took a sip of your coffee before going back to work on your laptop, no longer interested in the man in front of you.
Dazai chuckles, "Well I guess in a way I was flirting with you? I mean, I am a big flirt... I'm just being honest, but when a pretty girl like you smiles... Well," he smirked at you as he leaned closer to you, "it's hard to control myself. So what are you working on?
"I'm writing! That's my job." You laughed, looking back up at him.
"A writer, huh?" Dazai's eyes widened as he tilted his head back in surprise, "so, you write novels? No way... You're a bestselling author?!" Dazai raised his eyebrows as his eyes sparkled in curiosity.
"Correct!"
"That's super cool!" Dazai's attention was taken by your laptop, "Can I take a look at what you're writing?" He was obviously excited by the idea, he leaned even closer to try and get a glimpse of what you were typing.
"Uhhh, wait wait wait!!" But before you can retreat, Dazai had already grabbed the laptop and scanned over it.
"Wow!" Dazai's eyes widened as he looked over the writings from your laptop."A masterpiece! You write so well!" Dazai looked back at you and raised an eyebrow, "A mystery novel huh?" Dazai asked as he glanced back at the screen with a smirk.
"Uh well yeah! I love writing about mysteries, something about it is just so intriguing to me, creating my own story and then having to figure it out the the detective's eyes~!" You went on a rant about writing, and Dazai listened with intent, he seemed focused on you, smiling along as you near the end.
"That's so cool... I've always loved mysteries myself. To me, they are the most intriguing form of a story, it's the main reason I work in a detective agency... I'm actually the second-best detective here!" Dazai proudly grinned, waiting for your reaction.
Your eyes lit up in pure joy as he spoke. "Wow really! You're like a real-life detective! That's amazing~ I'd love to hear all about it! You've made my day Dazai!"
Dazai's face flushed, he was actually surprised that you were interested in what he had to say, "Really?!! You're not just saying that? You actually do want to hear about my job?" Dazai leaned onto his elbows as he sat forward, looking at you with pure excitement.
The two of you sat there wrapped up in conversation for the longest time until a tall man with glasses and a small notebook walked up to you. Dazai's face melted into one of horror before the man. You guessed that he was Kunikida, the person Dazai had mentioned earlier. Kunikida burst out into a scream, scolding Dazai for not working and you covered your ears.
Closing your laptop, you got up to leave when you felt a tug on your shirt. Dazai looked over at you with an apologetic smile and asked you to wait.
"Don't go yet! Hey Kunikida! This is Y/N~ She writes mystery novels and I-"
"Yes, that's great Dazai, but we don't have time for making friends." Kunikida held out his notebook and berated Dazai some more.
Dazai stood up straight as he was yelled at Kunikida. Kunikida was strict with his fellow employees when it came to work. Dazai was definitely not expecting this and his face was flushed as he nervously looked back and forth from you to Kunikida.
"I know, but she's such a great mystery writer, you should see what she writes!" Dazai tried his very best to be persuasive.
Kunikida sighed, "I can't take time off work to read mystery novels, Dazai..." he grumbled as he wrote something down in his notebook. Dazai's eyes widened, "Kunikida," he whimpered as his face flushed. He knew what Kunikida was writing down in his notebook, a report of his behavior.
"Kunikida, please don't tell the agency..." Dazai begged.
You watched as the two interacted for quite some time before deciding to butt in.
Dazai's head jerked over toward you with a desperate look while you interjected and Kunikida looked toward you as well.
"What?" Kunikida asks as he squints his eyes toward you.
"I'm sorry sir I shouldn't have spoken to Dazai! It's my fault not his~!" Dazai widened his eyes, not expecting you to say such a thing.
"Nonsense! It's my fault! But she is a good writer Kunikida! Maybe the ADA could use someone like her to-"
"Yes she's a great writer, but that's not the issue here." Kunikida's attention was directed at Dazai, "She should not be here, you should be working... She isn't one of our informants, is she? Just tell me who she's with so I can-"
Kunikida scrunched up his face in frustration as Dazai interrupted him, "No! She's just a random girl who was sitting in the café!"
You sighed, this was taking up precious time. Dazai noticed you sighing and looked back at you with an unreadable look.
Kunikida's expression darkens as he scowls, "Are you sure this isn't just a random girl you decided to flirt with? I know how you are Dazai, you have zero self-control when it comes to women. Come now, let's talk about this later."
And just like that the pair left. Dazai winked back at you as he was being pulled away.
"See you later Y/N~!"
You watched on as Kunikida and Dazai walked away and Kunikida was giving Dazai a scolding the whole time he walked behind him.
Dazai's eyes lit up as he saw you still sitting at your table, he waved back at you with a sly grin. He was clearly hoping that you would wait for him. And... Maybe you would.
