03 - Case Files And Interviews

4 days later...

Saul looks at the clock hanging on the wall opposite his desk then looks back to the black telephone sitting idle on top of his work space.

He taps the phone and runs his hands over the buttons, mentally debating about whether to call Geneva or not.

The woman intrigues him, Saul hasn't met anyone like her since Kim Wexler. He isn't looking for a change in his current relationship status, from single to taken. All he wants is to talk to Gen, she has a way of viewing even the most mundane of things with insight that is unique.

"I call and I'm 'Saul Goodman, hire now for all your stalking needs'," He mumbles to himself, using the voice he used to for his previous voice mail, "If I don't then... bring on the complainers and problem makers into my office, it's just another day at work."

He breathes out loudly, exasperated, then leans back in his chair and-

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

Saul jerks with sudden fright.

"Mr. Goodman, you've got clients sitting in the front room," Francesca informs the lawyer and he nods his head slowly, the reality of his work starting to make him exhausted.

"Fine alright, let the next one in..." Saul continues to watch his telephone intently, the thought of calling his new friend not leaving his mind for any moment.

"Mr. Goodman, my name is Bob Romero," A man close to his fifties introduces after entering into the office. Saul stands up and smiles, walking up to Mr. Romero and shaking his hand.

"Bob, good to see you. Please call me Saul," He walks to his seat again and puts his hands together in a thinking position, "So what can I do for you today?"

"I'm having a disagreement with a fellow shareholder of the company Timbre PLC, who claims to be taking decisions in favour of the company," Bob explains, clearly distressed, "He deceived and took advantage of my investment and interest in making the firm a much more established icon of the industry, and I've come for your help to make this right. He can't get away with this Saul."

Saul places his feet on top of his table and leans back in his ergonomic chair, playing around with the ink pen in his hand.

"You have to help me," Bob insists and Saul raises his eyebrows, unamused.

"Look Bob, in a situation like this... Me helping would be like Twilight having a justification to be in a spotlight of fame and fortune: Impossible," Saul jokes then sighs, "All the effort would go to waste. I'd have a better chance at defending a divorced woman who screwed the local bartender then stabbed her husband to get over with him for good."

Bob doesn't look that happy with Saul's attitude, he came here to this small, strip-mall sorry excuse for an attorney office to seek help from the best lawyer that the world could possibly supply.

"Mr Goodman, please I need your services. I had invested a lot of money into rhe company and I have shareholder rights that are being betrayed!" He says loudly, "I need this Saul. I have a family I need to support, two kids in college."

Saul imagines this client, kneeling on his knees and begging. He smiles a little at the thought then sighs.

"Alright fine Mr. Romero, I'll try my best," Saul grabs a notepad and pen then scribbles on the paper to see if the pen is working, "What's your rival shareholder's name?"

"Lionel Riviera," Bob answers and Saul pauses writing. He looks up to his client slowly, why did that name sound extremely familiar?

He stood up suddenly, his chair creaking a little, then walks over to his book shelf. Saul scans it quickly and flusterdly then pulls out a magazine, "Here!"

He flips through the magazine pages quickly then stopped, staring at the the article and the heading that said:

'An Arc in Architecture'

He skims through the page then reaches to the signature of the journalist. It's Geneva O'Neill. He remembers reading this article while he had his coffee break a month back.

Saul smirks, "All we need for this case is right here." He walks over to Bob and gives him the magazine, who looks at it with puzzlement. "In this one article?" Bob questions and Saul nods his head.

"Yeah because the person who wrote it knows everything about that man," He points to the magazine and runs a hand through his hair.

*****

"Hi I'm looking to speak to Geneva O'Neill? This is Saul Goodman, attorney at law," He explains on the phone, "I need to speak to her urgently."

"Alright sir, I'll forward your call. Please hold," The receptionist informs and Saul holds his forehead.

This is vital for his client, he's tried Geneva's mobile, home and numbers on the magazine and he's finally got some lead.

"SAUL you've got another client waiting!" He can hear Francesca yell from the corridor, standing opposite the door.

"In a minute!"

"This client's appointment has been postponed two times already!"

"Oh for the love of-"

Saul hastens to the door and and swings it open, "I'm currently sorting out an urgent matter with a source. Tell the client to kindly wait patiently or seek someone else's help."

He shouts the door before she replies and takes a deep breath, why is he so tensed up? Saul's worried about Geneva no doubt, though she's probably at work right?

"Hello?!"

A faint voice says through the phone receiver and Saul picks it up, putting it to his ear. "Geneva?" He asks and he hears the person take a breath.

"I've been on the line for the past twenty seconds, are you alright? I heard shouting," She questions and he chuckles nervously, deeply embarrassed.

"Y-Yeah I'm alright, just you know... work!" He walls over to his table then takes a seat, staring at the magazine article about Lionel Riviera, "Hey I've got some client related research that I need your help with. You up for it?"

She agrees to the assignment and Saul explains the whole detailed situation to her. Geneva states that she's got a shoebox worth of material that can be used, like article clippings, financial data, email scans and anything you really need for a prosecution.

"You are truly a life saver, I have no clue what I would have without you," Saul skiels with relief.

"Well I have a clue. You would have asked around, done your own digging and gone some hectic lengths to get inormation," She boasts teasingly, then chuckles, "And the pleasure of help is always mine Saul."

He smiles shyly, looking to the floor then nodding his head, "Alright then, I'll see you-"

"Can I come by your place tonight?"

Saul raises an eyebrow, "Y-Yeah sure, in heading out of work in the next half an hour so..."

"Great! I'll bring the documents then," Geneva says happily, "See you soon!"

BEEP!

Saul stares at his phone then gets up suddenly and walks out of his office after grabbing his things. He runs down the hall, alarming his waiting clients and Francesca for the most part, then takes a breath.

"Saul, you've got a package."

"What?"

"It's from The Entrepreneur's office," Francesca informs and gives it to me. It's a thin and flimsy package, Saul guesses it's a magazine given that it's from that office.

He spots a note on it and reads it to himself:

'First ever copy of this months issue printed, consider this a novelty.
Gen x'

"Reschedule my appointments, I need to go somewhere. I'm calling it a day, sorry everyone!" Saul announces and steps put of the building.

He hastens to his car then starts it-

It doesn't budge, he hopes he didn't flood it. "Come on, come on sweetheart," He whispers and tries again. This time the car starts up and Saul cheers.

He steps on the paddle and drives off towards his house's neighbourhood.
