The child prodigy and his juicy gossip
(1547)
IN ALL HONESTY.
Immortality is not how they made it out to be.
Genesis spent her ongoing immortal life full of bitterness and anger instead of bathing in the fact she is immortal.
Yes, she is practically unkillable with her heightened senses and strength that does get stronger throughout the years, and she's immune to any mortal disease, which she is thankful about.
Just thinking about how she died, well, it's dull.
She died of a plague, and it's not a thrilling story to tell, unlike some of the vampires she has met over the centuries.
And her magic it's not the same as when she was human, wherein she could feel her magic oozing in her veins, she felt none of it, and she felt empty.
All the energy and spark she felt before was gone.
Genesis thought that that feeling would simmer down over the course of her immortal life, but it didn't. It always felt like she was missing a part of herself that she would never regain, ever.
Genesis Ackerman felt no purpose in her immortal life at all.
She's barely living, and she's merely surviving, existing.
And with that in mind, she missed the feeling of living life.
She has been feeling a lot of things since she transitioned into a vampire, and she hated it.
She wished she hadn't felt anything at all.
Well, she can turn off her humanity switch. It's always there in the corner of her mind, lurking, taunting, whispering to shut it all off.
Genesis Ackerman is a woman of practicality and sees the reality of what it really should be. She thinks ahead of her actions before she executes them. She's always ten steps ahead.
It's one of the things she learned when she was a human, to think along with the details of every step, every consequence, every outcome, and every ending in mind.
She can never afford a mistake, a slip-up, or a hole in her plans that could make a big mess.
It's one of the things that made Kol Mikaelson liked about her, and he agreed to teach her more about using magic through dark objects.
He called himself a child prodigy, after all.
Kol Mikaelson met Genesis Ackerman in Egypt when he was stealing—no, in his words, burrowing ancient artifacts in the temples were tucked in one of the hands of the mummies.
Genesis knew they'd get along when he told her with a playful grin, "What are they going to do? They're dead anyway."
Point taken, and it was true.
No sense in arguing about dead people's belongings.
And Genesis watched him as Kol carved something in the walls and left a scroll, which he hid in the walls.
When she asked about it, Kol replied with a shrug and "You'll know soon enough."
Kol eventually told Genesis a few months ago after traveling with him around the globe for five years—with his never-ending attempt of flirting, which eventually stopped when Genesis didn't entertain it.
First, he told her that his family is the original family. They came from the old world. His mother, Esther, is the original witch.
Which Genesis had heard from her mother, Helen, when she was telling a story of a mother who loved her children deeply and betrayed nature—everything witches believed in and used dark magic to cast an immortality spell turning her children into vampires.
The first generation of vampires.
All while Genesis thought of how vampires came to be was a myth, it was the truth all along.
Kol's brother, Klaus Mikaelson, was a product of infidelity from an alpha of a pack of werewolves, the same pack that killed his youngest brother, Henrik.
With that, on the night of their transition, Klaus Mikaelson triggered his werewolf abilities, making him the Original Hybrid.
Both vampire and werewolf. So, Esther placed a curse on her son that suppressed Klaus' werewolf side and kept him from being able to access any of the powers that came from being a true hybrid.
Since then, Klaus Mikaelson has been doing everything in his power to break the curse, which can only be done through a sacrifice ritual.
And that is how the Sun and Moon Curse came to be. With it, their family has been spreading rumors, teachings, ancient manuscripts, and etchings of the curse around the globe in hopes that when the moonstone and doppelgänger are found, he would hear of it, take it—in a forceful manner, and break the curse.
Klaus' first attempt—a failed attempt at breaking the curse was in 1492.
Reason: The sacrificial lamb escaped with the moonstone in her possession.
Which Kol thought was amusing and that the sacrificial lamb that escaped is brave and stupid, because Kol knows his brother will forever make the escapee's life a living hell on earth.
When Genesis asked why a doppelgänger, Kol replied with, "That's another long and incredibly interesting story. You better listen,"
And so she did. The first doppelgänger's blood was used in the immortality curse that was casted by their mother.
Tatia, as Kol recalled, was her name.
He said it was a shame since it was entertaining when both his brothers, Klaus and Elijah, were fighting for Tatia's attention and affection, only to be used in the sacrifice.
Genesis asked why use Tatia, and Kol told her he wasn't sure why, but Genesis knew he had a theory, and he wasn't sure, and he didn't want to be proven wrong.
For Kol, Genesis Ackerman was a friend, which came as a shock to him.
He never made friends, especially with a woman, a woman he hasn't taken to bed and whispered lies of promises and false affection.
But to him, ever since Genesis matched his attitude and longing for the rush and thrill of magic—which he related to deeply, something in him he didn't know what wanted her loyalty and friendship.
And actually treated him like a decent human—well, not really being. His family, which promised each other Always & Forever.
He didn't feel like he belonged.
It was odd when he felt like Genesis made him feel more like a family than his actual family.
Deep down, but he will never admit out loud, or in Genesis' face, his ego is too high and pride too big to admit, was grateful for his friendship with Genesis.
So, he taught her everything he knew about using magic even though they were not witches anymore.
Now, he believes that family doesn't need to be by blood.
And their friendship was going well when Niklaus Mikaelson put a dagger in his heart in 1548—making Genesis hide from his brother's wrath.
