Chapter 5 - Silverpaw

Β  Β  Β  Β Silverpaw was sitting next to the red vixen, who apparently was called Moon.

"So who are you?" Moon asked.

"Oh..I'm Silverpaw. Silverpaw of ThunderClan," she replied.

Moon widened her glowing orange eyes.

"You're a clan cat!"

"Well yeah...or at least I was," meowed Silverpaw sadly.

They sat in silence for a moment and Silverpaw asked Moon a question that was bothering her.

"Moon, why should I trust you?"

At first, the fox looked taken aback but then her gaze filled with understanding.

"Well first of all, I kinda saved your life. And second, I have been alone here for at least three seasons and I wouldn't betray a future friend and my only company!" Moon smiled.

Silverpaw relaxed a bit then glanced at her right foreleg.

"You did this?" the tabby asked.

"Of course," Moon nodded.

"T-thank you. How can I repay you?"

"We can become friends."

"I'd like that," Silverpaw grinned.

The stared kindly at each other for a few seconds, then Moon spoke, "So how about some icebreakers to get to know each other?"

Silverpaw tilted her head and nodded.

"Ok I'll go first...how did you fall down here anyway?" asked Moon.

"Well there was an adder...and I was startled and fell off the edge. I'm still not sure why I'm not dead," the tabby wondered.

"I think the brambles must've broke your fall," the fox reasoned.

"Yeah...ok my turn! How did you get down here?" Silverpaw flicked her slim tail.

"Oh...its a long story. But I was with my friend and we got attacked by dogs. He was killed and I ran in here. The entrance to the tunnels collapsed and I was trapped in here ever since."

"Oh," Silverpaw shuffled her paws.

"Ok enough with that...Who's your family?"

"Well I have two siblings. Hawkpaw, my brother, and Cloverstep, my sister. Of course Hawkpaw must be a warrior by now," the teal eyed apprentice sighed.

"What about your parents?" Moon edged closer to her.

"Well my mother's name is Lilyfall and and my father's name is Spruceclaw."

Moon blinked a few times when Silverpaw said her parents names.

"Where did you learn cat-speak?" Silverpaw meowed the question eagerly to the vixen.

"The friend I mention earlier...he was a cat that my fox pack rescued and he lived with us. I picked up his language when I was still a cub."

"Wow! That's pretty awesome. And you can speak both?" her eyes glinted with curiosity.

Moon nodded.

The vixen stood up and yawned.

"I think its time to get some sleep. It's been a long and confusing day for you, Silverpaw. C'mon I'll show you were we'll sleep," Moon waved her bushy tail.

Silverpaw nodded and got to her paws, not realizing how much her whole body ached.

Moon supported her as they made their way through the dark tunnels, finally entering somewhat of a dirt clearing.

The clearing was pretty large, with a huge, wide crack that displayed a view from a cliff.Β

There was a long stream of water that flowed through the dust and some leafy plants grew from the hard earth.

Near the crack, on a ledge, was a cozy moss nest lined with rabbit fur.

"This is where I mainly live and my nest is over there. Welcome home, Silverpaw!"Β

Moon's soft red fur was illuminated by the fading sunlight and she gave a supportive smile to the slim white and silver apprentice.

"I can go make your nest real quick. I have a small supply of moss, feathers, and fur that I use for nests," Moon walked up by the stream and collect the materials she needed from a small pile.

"This place is warming and pretty tidy," Silverpaw commented.

"Thanks! I had a lot to do over the past moons."

Moon soon made a smaller nest next to hers.

"If you don't like where the nest is feel free to move it to wherever. It just gets pretty cold down here so it's nice to have more warmth from someone else's body heat," Moon looked at her brown paws while she was explaining herself.

"No I think it's perfect," purred the tabby.

The red furred fox brightened up a bit and Silverpaw could tell she was smiling through the darkness.

They padded up to their nests on the small ledge, having a wonderful sight of the hilltops.

Silverpaw laid down in her newly made bedding and she was extremely comfortable.

"Moon, you do have a talent of making nests," she mewed sleepily.

"Thanks," the fox yawned and was asleep within minutes.

The teal eyed apprentice pressed against the vixen and laid her head down in her soft feather nest.

Her shoulder felt like it was going to detach from her body but Silverpaw was too exhausted to care.

As she began closing her eyes she thought, Tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll escape from these dusty tunnels and see my family again.
