Lapis woke up the next morning to a little whimper. She looked out of the corner of her eye, seeing the little boy. He was standing in the bathroom, warm light flooding into the room, and he was crying again. Lapis groaned, getting up and crossing the room to him. The girl was sleeping peacefully, and she hadn't stirred since last night.
Creep. You stayed up all night watching them. It hissed at her. She wasn't in the mood to reply. The little boy noticed Lapis' presence, and looked up in sudden panic.
"W-Who are you?" He questioned shakily. Lapis hussed him, petting his hair. He calmed down slowly, and stopped crying.
"My name is Lapis." She said smoothly. The boy blinked, and sighed.
"I'm Geo." He said. He had brown scales, a white mane, and bright orange eyes. His sister was the same, except her mane was as black as midnight. Lapis smiled.
"What's troubling you, Geo?" She asked, kneeling down in front of him. He frowned, and bit his tongue, trying to not cry again.
"My...My Mother." He said slowly, "She went away." He said, and started crying despite his efforts. He sobbed, and hugged Lapis around the chest. He eyes widened and she froze momentarily. She wasn't used to being touched in a friendly way, especially by children. She hugged him stifly, and he let go, stepping back. She smiled at him.
"Well, today I'll bring you and your Sister somewhere safe." She said, ruffling his mane. He squeaked in protest, and she led him into the main room.
"Where?" He asked, and roused his Sister. She groaned.
"An adoption center. You just need somewhere to stay for a while." She said, trying to tell them easy. Geo wasn't listening all the way, shoving his Sister's shoulder.
"Terra, wake up!" He squealed, trying his best. She rolled over, and he came with her, squeaking in surprise before falling off the other side of the bed. Lapis winced, and helped him up. Terra gasped, sitting up quickly. She met his eyes and started cracking up.
"Geo I'm so sorry!" She said, forcing out the words between giggles. He glared at her, eventually erupting in giggles aswell.
I wish it were this simple always. She thought. The voice stirred, but didn't question. Eventually the children quieted down, and sat on the end of the bed, facing Lapis. They looked like they wanted her to prep them for battle or something.
I guess that's kinda what this is...huh? She thought, chuckling. She crossed her arms, eyeing the children.
"Well, today I'll be bringing you do the children's home." She said, marching back and forth, "And that's where you'll stay until you've found a suitable home." She said, standing to attention in front of them. Terra nodded with a grin, while Geo saluted with a giggle. Lapis ruffled his mane, and he giggled outright.
"Come on." She said, leading them down the tavern stairs and down the walkway towards the door. She hissed at anyone who starred at the children for too long, which was many of them. She got them to the children's home, and Geo and Terra hugged her in thanks before turning to go inside. She nodded, gesturing for them to go along quickly. They gave her one last glance before disappearing behind the door. Lapis let out a sigh of relief. She was an assassin. She didn't need children weighing her down and keeping her from doing her job. She had to admit, she would miss the lighthearted mood they set over her. She shook it off.
I don't have time for this. I need to deal with my target. She said.
Finally. The voice growled.
Don't worry. You'll get your time soon. She thought, partially excited for the feeling of being taken over again. She loved the way dark form's power made her numb, and how she was able to just be, and not interact with anything. It was like dark form created a shell around her, where she somewhat hibernated within until the job was done. She reached the tavern again, retreating to the balcony to scope out he square for the target. She spent hours upon hours sitting and waiting, and she was used to it. Being an assassin was always a waiting game, and she knew it wouldn't work as smoothly if it went any other way. Finally, she sensed something from a few miles out, the target she'd been assigned was showing themselves.
Yes! Finally! Let me out! Dark form howled in anticipation. Lapis waited, holding back the overwhelming urge, and watched for the target to fully come into view. Once they did, Lapis couldn't control the head tilt and confusion that overcame her. The target must've been young, since she moved with a young dragon's flexibility. They were a shade of purple scales, with a green and blue mane. They had two black horns curling from their forehead, and trendils curling at her cheeks. She was looking around in awe, eyeing the stupid fish fountain like it was a month of pay. Lapis smirked.
Too easy. She thought. She touched the collar, and the wonderful numb feeling overcame her.

Took you long enough! She growled, flexing her limbs and letting her power flow through her. The black ink liquid flowed up her arms, and she sighed in relief. Once she'd changed fully, she eyed the square for the girl again. She found her quickly, and leapt off the balcony, swinging on the piping up to the roof, crouching and watching. She waited for the opportunity she needed, and leapt down. She tackled the girl, who squeaked in surprise, and held her down by her elbows. Lapis smirked down at her panicked face, her lips curled back in a snarl.
"He didn't tell me you'd be pretty." She said, hissing. The girl went to scream, and Lapis put an inked claw to her lips.
"Quiet, my lovely." She purred. When the girl struggled, Lapis pressed down hard on her elbow, nearly breaking it.
"Fine. Then we'll settle for eternal silence." She said, and raised a claw to end it. She swung, but suddenly something in her collar sparked, and her vision blurred. Her momentum shot her sideways, and into a brick wall. She groaned in pain, her head spinning. The girl watched in fear, struggling up to run. But as Lapis fell into painful unconsciousness, she was puzzled when the girl stayed where she was.
