Chapter 07

I sat in the front of Stiles' jeep with him, Lydia sitting in the back. Scott rode next to us on his dirt bike as we sped towards the electrical station where we believed Barrow was keeping Kira.

We finally arrived, and Scott was off his dirt bike before it had even stopped moving. Stiles parked the car next to his bike and started getting out of the car before speaking to Lydia and I.

"Okay, wait here, all right? Just wait for the cops to come," he said closing the door.

I opened my mouth in outrage, about to say something, but he and Scott had already run inside the building.

"Rude," I muttered, crossing my arms and pouting like a child.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, all the while my anxiety built. What has happening in there? What if we were too late and Kira was injured or dead? What if Stiles got injured or killed? And Scott?

My leg was bouncing up and down on its own accord as I got lost in my thoughts. I hated waiting here, doing nothing, while inside my friends could be having the fight of their lives. I hated not being able to do anything.

"We have to do something," I finally said, breaking the silence.

Lydia sighed, as if she was used to this kind of stuff.

"There's nothing we can do," she told me.

"But what if they need out help?" I asked.

Lydia stopped for a second before her shoulders tensed up and she vigorously shook her head.

"I am NOT going in there," Lydia said.

I huffed.

"Fine, I'll go myself."

With that, I jumped out of the car and started running toward the building. Lydia tried to stop me, but she was too slow and before I knew it I was running inside the building.

As I ran, I cursed myself for being so stupid. What the hell was I doing? I didn't have a weapon or any sort of combat training. It was dangerous and reckless for me to go in there. What was I even going to do when I got there?

I ignored these thoughts as I ran further into the building, which probably wasn't smart, but I didn't care. I wanted to help save Kira and I was not going to go back into Stiles' jeep and do nothing.

I ran into a large room filled with fenced off areas, and that was when I spotted Scott on the ground, writhing in pain. I looked further and found Kira tied to a fence and Barrow holding an electrical wire as he moved closer to Kira.

"No!" I yelled, but was too late.

There was a bright flash of light as electricity exploded throughout the room. I stumbled to the floor and covered my eyes from the light.

I heard a body drop to the floor and squinted my eyes in an attempt to see who it was. I let out a gasp when I realised it was Barrow and turned my gaze to Kira.

My mouth hung open as I watched her standing, her hands absorbing the electricity from the wire. I couldn't even see her hands because two bright orbs were covering them. Kira was looking down at her hands in shock, making me think that she was even less sure of what was going on than I was.

My gaze came in contact with hers and we stared at each other horror as all around us the power went out.

. . .

I sat in a chair closest to the door in Sheriff Stilinski's office. Stiles sat in one next to me, Scott and Kira sat on the couch next to him, and Lydia sitting next to them in an armchair.

We were all staring at the FBI agent that had been at the school earlier today, who I found out was actually Scott's dad, Rafael McCall.

"So, when did you get there?" Rafael asked us as he leant against Noah's desk.

Noah sat on the other side of the desk in his chair, arms crossed as he looked at the five of us, but he didn't seem mad.

"At the same time," Stiles answered.

"At the same time as who?" Rafael questioned.

Stiles pointed a finger at Scott as Scott said. "The same time as me."

Rafael raised an eyebrow.

"By coincidence?"

"What do you mean coincidence?" Stiles inquired.

I nearly rolled my eyes knowing very well that he knew what coincidence meant. He was the son of a Sheriff after all.

"That's what I'm asking you. The two of you arrived at the same time. Was that coincidence?" Rafael asked.

I was surprised by how calm he seemed. By now, I would have thrown Stiles out of the window for being so infuriating.

Scott pointed at himself. "Is he asking me?"

"I think he's asking me," Stiles said.

"I think he's asking both of you," Lydia stated casually.

I resisted the urge to ogle her. How was she being so calm? We were being interrogated by an FBI agent about a homicidal killer who nearly killed Kira until she revealed these crazy superpowers that ended up killing the murder and putting the whole town in a blackout.

"Okay, let me answer the questions," Rafael said.

Stiles smiled at Rafael's mistake and Rafael noticed, sighing.

"Let me ask the questions," he corrected. "Just so I have this absolutely clear."

Stiles winked and he pointed to Rafael as the man got out his notebook to review the notes he had made.

"Barrow was hiding in the chemistry closet at the school. Someone left a coded message on the blackboard telling him to kill Kira. Then Barrow took Kira to a power substation and tied her up with the intent of electrocuting her, which blacked out the entire town," Rafael finished, looking up from his notes.

There was a beat of silence.

"Sounds about right," Stiles said.

"How'd you know he'd take her to a power station?" Rafael asked.

Stiles seemed to think for a second, his eyebrows creased, before answering.

"Well, because he was an electrical engineer," Stiles said, scratching the side of his head. "So, where else would he take her?"

Rafael's lips thinned as he listened to Stiles answer.

"That's one hell of a deduction there, Stiles," he said.

"Yeah, what can I say? I take after my pops. He's in law enforcement."

Stiles winked and smirked at Noah who snorted and tried to cover it up with a cough when Rafael looked at him.

I frowned. How was Stiles acting so calm and silly? None of this was funny. I just wanted to keep my head down and get this over with, which was why I was letting the others answer all of the questions.

"Stiles just answer the man," Noah said.

"We made a good guess," Stiles stated simply.

Rafael looked to Scott and Kira.

"What were the two of you doing?" he asked.

"Eating pizza," Scott said at the exact same time as Kira said, "eating sushi."

Rafael raised an eyebrow as Kira and Scott looked to each other.

"Eating sushi," Scott said as Kira said, "eating pizza."

They both sighed and said in synchronisation, "eating sushi and pizza."

Rafael sighed before looking at me.

"And what were you doing there?" he asked.

Everyone leaned forward and looked at me, all of them curious as to why I was there, making me very nervous. I couldn't just tell them the truth and say my parents were being really sketchy and I needed to inform Kira because hers were as well and we were trying to figure out what they were hiding from us.

I swallowed thickly as I thought of my answer.

"Kira wasn't answering her phone so I went to find her and met up with these guys," I said as nonchalantly as I could while avoiding eye-contact with everyone.

Rafael raised an eyebrow. "You went to search for Kira at night because she wasn't answering her phone?"

I shrank under his gaze and fidgeted with my hands.

"I had to tell her something important," I mumbled, feeling like an idiot.

"What could be so important that you left your house at night to go tell your friend when you had school tomorrow?" Rafael questioned.

I opened my mouth and then closed it again, unsure what to say.

"I, uh- girl problems?" I said, thought it was more of a question than anything.

Rafael sighed, obviously not believing my lie.

"You believe this?" Rafael asked Noah, turning his head so he could look at the man.

"To be honest, I haven't believed a word Stiles has said since he learned how to speak." Noah sighed. Stiles nodded, as if confirming Noah's words. "But I think these kid's found themselves in the right place at the right time and that girl sitting there is very lucky for it."

Kira looked down at his words.

"Kira?" Rafael asked. "Is that how you remember everything?"

"Yes," Kira said solemnly. "Could I get my phone back now?"

Rafael sighed and shook his head. "Sorry, but no."

Everyone started to get up and leave the office, but Noah told Stiles and I to stay so we sat back down.

When Rafael closed the door, I let out a relieved sigh. That had been one of the scariest, most stressful situations of my life.

"I'll take you home, Y/n," Noah said from his desk. "I just have to pack up first."

I nodded and looked down at my hands as I fidgeted with them.

"You okay?" Stiles asked me, frowning in concern.

I took a deep breath, wondering what to tell him. He, along with Lydia and Scott, all acted so normal, like they didn't just see Kira do some crazy power thing with electricity.

"Am I the only one who saw Kira inhale all that electricity?" I asked him, a hint of panic in my voice.

Stiles laughed at my choice of words.

"Inhale?" He questioned.

"Shut up. I'm in shock and I can't speak words properly."

Stiles laughed again and I glared at him. This situation was not funny. Stiles noticed my expression and he turned serious.

"I can't really explain what happened to Kira, partly because I have no idea what happened, but it would be best if you didn't talk about it," Stiles told me.

"That's hardly an explanation- "I started, my voice going several octaves higher in my panic, but Noah cut me off.

"Okay kiddo, let's take you home," he said to me.

I nodded my head and followed Noah as he walked out of his office, Stiles trailing behind me. The car ride to my house was silent.

When we got there, Noah asked me if I wanted him to help explain to my parents where I'd been, but I told him I was alright and left the car.

As soon as I opened the door, I was assaulted by two furious looking parents as they loomed above me, demanding to know where I had been and what I was doing out so late without telling them.

"Where were you?" my mother yelled, throwing her hands up in the air dramatically. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

"The police station," I said simply.

My parents looked at me with perplexed expressions on their faces.

"What?" my dad asked.

With that, I started explaining what had happened. Of course, I only told them the version that we told the police and made sure not to add in any bits of Kira turning into Electro from The Amazing Spiderman 2.

Once I'd finished, my parents shared a look, talking silently amongst themselves and causing unease to stir in my gut. Why were they being so suspicious all the time? What were they hiding?

"And that's all?" my mother asked slowly. My dad shot her a dirty look, but my mother ignored it. "Kira got out safe and unscathed? Nothing bad happened to her?"

My mother's question caught me off guard. The way she asked it made me wonder if she knew about Kira and whatever the hell happened with her. That would be impossible though, right?

"That's all," I told her, praying for all this to be over soon so I could be alone with my thoughts.

Thankfully, my prayers were answered a while later as my parents dismissed me after lecturing me on why I shouldn't sneak out of the house.

I collapsed on my bed for the second time that day once I'd gotton into my room, sighing. I noticed some lit candles on my desk that my parents must have lit after the blackout and resisted the urge to blow them out or touch them.

Instead, I rolled over onto my back and looked up at my bedroom ceiling as thoughts swirled around in my brain.

Kira. Kira, Kira, Kira. What just happened to Kira? What did she do? How did she do it? Did she know she could do it? Remembering her expression after she'd done it, I decided she probably didn't, but that just made more questions pop up. How did she get this far in life without knowing she could do that? Surely she must have poked a fork into a power board or gotton electrocuted sometime in her life before now.

A thought hit me, and I bolted upright. What if Kira was like me? Except instead of fire, it was electricity. Or was I also immune to electricity? Should I test out the theory? Probably not. I didn't want to be wheeled into the emergency room at the hospital because I electrocuted myself.

I groaned, laying back down on my bed. This was hopeless. How was I supposed to figure out what the hell was going on when I had barely any information? It was like people were purposely hiding things from me.

Well, of course they were, I thought bitterly as I remembered the conversation my mother had with Kira's parents. We can't let them find out about this, she'd said, but find out about what? What were they hiding from me?

My heart went heavy as I thought of someone else who was hiding things from me. I really liked Stiles. He was funny and sweet and ridiculously good looking, but he was keeping something from me, something big, and I wondered if he'd ever trust me enough to tell me what it was.

I sighed, finally blowing out the candles in my room and getting under the covers. I'd talk to Kira tomorrow and figure all of this out tomorrow.

Tomorrow...
