Dogs do not love Yelena

Look, wishing you don't have a normal life is great, amazing and it does make sense. Most people, including me at that time would wish they were doing something interesting, even if it meant having a weird life that was full of crazy and insane things.  At the very least, something that didn't follow your daily routine.

My name is Selene Martinez.

As a kid, I'd always thought that being normal was boring. I thought that going through the exact same routine was horrible, and wished that I could do something that was out of the world.

Don't wish it- because that's when the bad things happen. I know it from experience, I know that everything in a person's life is boring and they want things to happen, because who doesn't like action or chaos?

But don't wish it. For every wish comes with a consequence and that's when you'll regret it.

That is when you will wish that the time you wanted something was gone. But that wish won't be granted. Because when something happens, it happens and you can't go back on it.

NEVER.

Selene Martinez let out a startling burst of laughter and when everyone turned to look at her, her expression turned into one of pure innocence. Selene was quite good at that look on her face by now and it was proof as everyone immediately looked outside the window.

They assumed that someone from there had shrieked and Selene was back into a shadow at the back of the class. Well, a very high pressured shadow as she had a very high amount of ADHD. Selene knew that as soon as possible, she would be running out into the field, and jumping everywhere she could. Not outside the school boundaries as the last time that happened, well it didn't go that well.

She looked back at the letter that was written by her closest friend, (not that she had many, but Selene elected to ignore that) Yelena Ivanov. Yelena was around a few years older than her, but the closest friend Selene had ever had. Letters were unusual, but Yelena gave them to her in break time, so that she had time to read it and that she couldn't chat with a girl who never shared classes with her.

As the letter finished, Selene was biting on her tongue hard, trying to restrain the bubble of laughter in her throat. Yelena might be an overall secretive person, but she was just like Selene. Working from the shadows, innocent faces and made people think that someone else did it.

Yelena had often commented that it was slightly rude, but the fact that no one still suspected Selene made it even better. All the teachers never thought that any nine-year-old would play pranks, at least, not her teachers.

Selene was interrupted by the bell signalling the end of school rung, and everyone cheered. The school year was finally over and Helen could hear feet rushing through the corridors.  She herself was running, her feet hitting the tiled floor and echoing around the corridors. It felt good to let go of all her energy and before she knew it, she was in the field, letting out a scream of joy.

As she rushed around madly, feeling the wind whip in her short, blonde hair, Selene collided with someone with a bang. "oww," Selene blinked the black spots in her vision away and looked up. She grabbed the hand and pulled herself up.

"Sorry dreamer but you might want to look where you're going next time. Just maybe,"  a snarky, but still somehow kind voice brought Selene out of her daze. She looked at Yelena, rubbing her forehead in pain, wincing when she rubbed the sore spot. "Hey dreamer, you good?"

"I'm fine, I guess." Selene didn't really care that she was hurt, and shrugged it off. "How are you 'lena?" Selene looked Yelena over, just to make sure that she wasn't hurt.

"I'm fine, but you might want to stop being in the world of dreams." Yelena's voice was concerned and she rubbed Helen's forehead.

"I thought there was a reason you called me dreamer," Selene could barely hear Yelena's response to this because of all the screams in the background but was able to make it out, "maybe I should call you clumsy instead."

Selene shoved Yelena who grinned brightly and shoved her back. Yelena's eyes sparkled as she said, "Race you to the bus dreamer," and ran. Selene groaned. Yelena was too fast to catch up to. But Selene knew she had to win or else Yelena would call her slowpoke for another month.

Selene observed where she was and looked at Yelena. She saw a few paths, saw the shortest, and how to cover it easiest by taking another path. But Yelena was becoming smaller as she ran by. So Selene chucked a pebble, not a rock (it reminded Selene of something that happened when she was younger) at Yelena's feet. It reached right at the mark and Helen took that moment to run. She made her way panting through the path she made herself and cheered when she reached the bus first. Yelena came up scowling.

"Hey slowpoke," Selene grinned. The scowl on Yelena's face widened, and a smile spread across Selene's freckled face.

"That was cheating," Yelena argued back.

"There were no rules, "Selene smirked widely. They were however jostled by a group of students who climbed into the bus. They distantly also heard the bus driver shouting at them to get on and they did, despite not wanting to go in a moving vehicle for god knows how long.

As the bus moved on the road, across a lot of hitches and breaks, Selene had taken out her sketchbook, while Yelena was sitting next to her in a relaxed position, chattering at her about what they were going to do on the holiday. Selene drew a small drawing with her pen off a camp near the forest, with a bonfire right outside. Selene's eyes widened and she roughly drew some stick figures in and turned to Yelena, nudging her.

She jumped on her seat, shaking it, and turned to Selene, "what is it?"

"I got an absolutely amazing idea. If my father and Camila agreed, we could go camping in Virginia"Selene's voice was high-pitched and she couldn't stop shaking in her seat.

"First of all," Yelena looked excited but her voice was slightly strict at this, "make a little less noise please." Selene blushed. "second, why Virginia?"

"Well," She drawled, "it's not like we were going there by plane or anything, and we're going there in the vacations."

Yelena blushed but her eyes looked down. "That sounds great then," she managed to keep her voice steady.

"I didn't tell you," Selene realized why Yelena's voice was cracking. "You are going to come with us these vacations." Yelena smiled widely and now looked about ready to jump around the place. "First to celebrate, we are going to get a cupcake when we go back home." Yelena nodded distractedly.

As the bus reached the stop, Selene was the first one to jump out. Bouncing on the balls of her feet, she searched for her family. Her little brother was always wanting to be there, and since he wanted to, her step-mother came along to make sure he didn't run and her father came to make sure that she was there. Yelena climbed out as well.

Selen's parents had practically adopted Yelena when they saw her, exclaiming that she was Selene's only friend, (really did they have to mention that?) and that she was a very nice person. Since then, on school days Yelena had stayed with them instead of going back to the orphanage.

Selene's father came up and picked her up and Selene clung on. Yelena came up and grinned while Selene's father, Noah Martinez let Selene down. Yelena waved her hand but before Selene could gain her balance after the hug back, a huge blur slammed into her knocking Selene to the ground.

"Nice to see you too little brother," Selene's voice was muffled into her brother, Liam's shirt as he clung onto her. Liam was around five years old, a ball of energy, (though Yelena knew he was less energetic than Selene) and he adored his sister. Pulling Liam off Selene, Yelena huffed as he struggled.

"Let go of your big sister please Liam." Liam pouted at his mother but let go. His father picked him up and Liam smiled.

Selene groaned as Yelena picked her up, she grumbled as well, "if this was a repeat of the rock incident I would never have forgiven him." Yelena smiled and Selene laughed as well.

As they walked back to the house, Selene rambled about what they could do, with Selene's step-mother, Camila Martinez listening carefully. "That's an amazing idea, Selene. In fact, Noah and I were thinking of the same thing." Selene jumped up and down and got more excited (if that was even possible) and smiled even wider (which had to be impossible) when Noah agreed.

Yelena would kill someone if they told people that her weakness was packing. Yelena knew that she would do that and that's why she didn't let anyone in her room. Cursing in Russian, Yelena looked around at her half-packed bag and the mess outside of it. She sneaked to the fire escape and hurried out. Going into a narrow path she slipped into the shadows.

Yelena saw at an open space, there were no hellhounds. Observing her surroundings, Yelena focused all she could to make it look like nothing was going on. She fell down in pure exhaustion and that alerted the hellhounds of her.

Yelena pulled off her rubber band from her hand and jumped into position. She pulled on it and (Yelena was proud to say she managed to charm it) it turned into a pocket pistol. She moved back slowly, as she inserted the bullets. Holding her hand straight, Yelena remembered all the lessons she had, how she taught herself and aimed. It hit the first hellhound.

Sadly, the bullets were not enough but Yelena knew that and kept on going till the bullets she had were over. The hellhounds looked injured but were still growling so Yelena put her hand up her sleeve and took out her knife. Though she preferred a scythe, it was all she could use without having to re-enforce the mist. As she took out her knife and the hellhounds came to her, the adrenaline rushed through her veins, and she stood into a fighting stance, purely by muscle memory.

When the hellhounds came, Yelena rolled under a hellhound and slashed.  She slashed and stabbed, the bullet wounds making it easier for the hellhounds to die. Yelena narrowly dodged a bite from the hellhound but unluckily it bit into her side. It stung like hell but Yelena tried to ignore it as she stabbed that hellhound. Dust poured and Yelena clutched her hand to her side, dagger still in hand.

But she was taken off balance as a hellhound pounced. Yelena felt her head go thunk against the ground, and black-yellow spots filled her vision. Her knife clattered to the ground. She could smell the hellhound, she could smell the blood. The bullet wound seemed to not have affected this hellhound.  Blood seeped through her clothes and the hellhound growled.

The hellhound lunged. But then suddenly, it exploded in gold dust and an arrow fell to the floor. Yelena mumbled a what, unclearly and a pair of hands picked her up. "who are you?" Yelena mumbled weakly.

"I am Mateo. A fellow son of Apollo at your service. Now, I need you to come to my house, I'll heal you up and you can go home." Mateo picked up Yelena's knife as well. Considering he saved her, she decided she could trust him, at least for a little while.

"I'm Yelena Ivanov. Daughter of Hecate." Her voice sharpened at the last part but Mateo elected to ignore it.

As they reached his house, Yelena found herself carried to a bed, and he started chanting. Finally realising what he was doing, Yelena felt herself calm down and removed her hand from her side. Then she oh so conveniently passed out.

"Yelena, you have to go now, or else your people will be worried," Someone was shaking her roughly and she registered what had happened. Her side was bandaged and Yelena felt a whole lot better.

"How much time has it been Mateo?"

"Just have an hour," Yelena took a breath of relief, " and you can go now."

Yelena got off the bed, trying to find some strength to stand. Thankfully, Mateo was a good healer and he had managed to fix her up, but she still stumbled. He steadied her and led her out of his house. Waving her hand, she thanked Mateo and tried to remember the address for future instances. Slightly rude, but Mateo was the one who had volunteered to help.

Okay, that's the first chapter. Hope you like it XD. Thanks for checking this book out. Also, if you can tell me any tips on how to write the fight scene, that'll be great.
