step 1: introduction
"well, well, well - if it isn't mr. detention" oikawa said in a mocking tone as he watched terushima approach him slowly, the other had a grin on his face - a menacing one.
"well, well, well - if it isn't mr. heartbreaker" terushima smirked at oikawa, the two shared a laugh before coming back to reality, some stuff had to be sorted. "so, i heard you broke up with megumi, i was surprised"
"how come? you know i never stay in relationships too long" oikawa scoffed. he finally took his books from the locker and faced terushima, that smug look on his face meant that he was up to no good, but then again it is terushima we are talking about, wouldn't be a day without one of terushima's dumb things.
"yeah i do, but things seemed different with megumi. you dated her for a couple of months and i really thought you two would stick together" terushima sighed, but oikawa simply chuckled at his words. two of them walked into the main hallway, marveling at the number of people rushing to get out of school. it's not as if the gates were closing or anything, it was the end of the school day - it was friday however.
oikawa threw his jacket on his shoulders as he continued walking with terushima by his side, who, like any other day, did some dumb stuff and got sent to the principal's office. this time he broke school rules and bleached his hair, which was apparently prohibited in order to show the world the "picture perfect japanese student". terushima, however, was living his life to the fullest. he didn't like rules, as a matter of fact, his whole family did not like rules - that's the only reason why terushima would always get away with whatever dumb stuff he was up to.
oikawa, on the other hand, preferred to follow structures, systems, and rules. everything had its own order, everything had to work in a specific way - his daily routine was insane and terushima could barely keep up with him during sleepovers. wake up at 7 am, take a quick shower, dress up, dry the hair all within 15 minutes, go to the kitchen to eat breakfast prepared the night before, leave at 7:30, get to school before eight and go to class. every single morning the same routine - oikawa cherished his time. which was his excuse to not date someone for a long time, as he would say 'i could get anyone i want, so why waste time on one person', terushima begged to disagree, but oikawa never listened.
"she became too attached. she started talking about where we should go during spring break and where we should study later, i am... i am not into that", oikawa sighed as he pushed through another crowd of people. in the corner of his eye, he saw megumi, she was watching him attentively with desperation in her eyes. they were red and her face was a bit swollen, it was clear that she had been crying. oikawa quickly turned his face away and walked past her not sparing a glance.
"you are so into the fact that you can make anyone fall for you that you are not thinking about your future. mark my words, you will meet someone who won't like you no matter what" terushima said making oikawa laugh.
"oh please, show me that person"
"do you seriously believe the world revolves around you? how do you even get people to fall for you?", terushima wondered.
"tsk tsk, oh you have a lot to learn. there are seven steps to have anyone fall for you. wanna know my secrets?", oikawa raised an eyebrow.
"for sure"
"step one, introduction. introduce yourself in a fun way, say a compliment, and why you approached them. make them interested in talking to you, get their attention. does not matter if they hate you or idolize you at first"
"mhm"
"step two, attention. give the person all of the attention you can. focus on them only. if you do not have their number, try to get it. talk to them, interact with them, make them speak to you. you have to make sure they know you are interested in getting to know them"
"okay..."
"step three, flirting. once you establish your interest start flirting. depending on the person, different things work. gullible ones like cheesy pickup lines. hard to get ones enjoy straightforward flirting. lewd jokes are always welcome to people who like hooking up with people, which is what you want to get at. let them know that you want a connection with them"
"good christ, that's step three?"
"mhm, step four, connection. after flirting they should be more open with you and agree to date you. build a connection, listen to their life stories, treat them to dates and gifts, share your own personal things - make them think you want them not only physically but emotionally"
"that's just scamming people"
"oh shut up. step five, affection. shower them with affection, hugs, kisses, anything, and everything. cuddling is always good, whisper sweet things to them, be the most romantic person that has ever walked this earth. the person has to know that you want an intimate relationship. even the most conservative girls crack if you are affectionate enough"
"oikawa, that's just scamming people"
"step six, intimacy. simple, get the action you want. sex and all that, not much to say"
"oh, and the last step?"
"step seven, heartbreak. by this point you've gotten all that you needed, right? break up with them. it usually takes me a month to do all of this, megumi was a tough nut to crack, plus she is a freaky one. as i said, i can make anyone fall for me just by following these steps" oikawa boasted about his achievements, but terushima just laughed.
"anyone?"
"anyone"
"wanna bet?", terushima raised an eyebrow and stuck out his tongue, showcasing his tongue piercing.
"bet?", oikawa turned his attention to terushima, the two were still in the school while almost everyone else had left.
"i bet you five hundred bucks that i can pick a person who won't fall for you. if they do you owe me, if they don't i owe you. till the end of the school year, four more months", terushima watched as oikawa started having a laughing fit. "what do you say mr. i don't fall in love with anybody?"
"free five hundred bucks? count me in. who do you have in mind?", oikawa wiped away his tears that escaped when he laughed too hard, ah, his stomach hurt.
"the guy. iwaizumi hajime", a smirk formed on terushima's face as oikawa's eyes widened.
"sure, watch me", oikawa scoffed at his smirk. coincidentally, the man himself walked past them just a few seconds later, not caring at all about the two guys standing in the middle of the hallway. oikawa smiled as he turned around and tapped on iwaizumi's back.
the other...continued walking, earphones in his ears blasting whatever music he liked listening to. the tune did not sound familiar at all, but then again it was iwaizumi hajime who never wished to associate himself with such people as oikawa or terushima.
tooru, however, had no intention of backing down. a challenge is a challenge. a bet is a bet, he has such a perfect chance to get free cash as a graduation gift, so who is he to deny it? oikawa inhaled sharply and quickly caught up with iwaizumi, who was busy trying to get out of the school.
"yo, hot stuff, slow down for a second," oikawa said as he grabbed iwaizumi's wrist, the other jerked oikawa's hand off and turned to face him, clearly confused.
"what do you want, oikawa?" iwaizumi asked coldly. a smile crept on oikawa's face as he stepped closer to iwaizumi, wrapping his hands around iwaizumi's arm.
"iwa-chan, i know how good you are in biology and i also know that we have a very bad and terrible exam coming at the end of the year. tutor me maybe?" oikawa tried to smile innocently, but iwaizumi shook him off his arm and sighed.
"what makes you think i would help you? have your girlfriends help you" iwaizumi scoffed and began walking away, but oikawa was having none of that, he caught up with him again and stood in front of him.
"iwa-chan, please, you are the best in that subject. i promise i will pay back and help you with anything you need", for a moment there oikawa saw something in iwaizumi's eyes, a sparkle of trust and pity, but it was short lived.
"no." iwaizumi said before walking past him, leaving oikawa by himself. the first step was already completed though...
