when the two students arrived at the gryffindor common room, they were met with only the sound of the crackling fire that was lit in the fireplace. it had yet to burn out, so they guessed that someone had recently left. 

"so what do you do up in your dormitory?" remus asked in an attempt to break the silence. arden smiled. 

"oh you know, the same thing any boring girl does: homework," she laughed.

remus frowned. "you're not boring."

"remus, trust me, it's okay. i've come to terms with it," she smiled. 

he shook his head and grabbed her hands and they sat down on the sofa. "arden, you are one of the most interesting girls i've ever met. i'm so glad that i have someone in my life that loves the same things as i do."

"but isn't lily a better ideal friend for you? she's smart and beautiful and sweet all at once. i'm just smart."

"well, lily and i share a love for books, but to be quite honest, if it weren't for james, none of us boys would be friends with her. it's not that i don't like her, because i do, she's a great friend, but sharing a hobby and enjoying the same thing aren't the same."

"actually, i do believe that they are the exact same thing, remus," the girl giggled as remus let out a sigh of defeat.

"c'mon you know what i mean!"

the two sat in silence for a few minutes, contemplating their next move. then remus spoke up. "you said that lily is smart, beautiful, and sweet and that you are just smart. do you really not find yourself attractive? you're beautiful."

arden laughed. "i'm just not my own type, if that makes sense..."

"that makes total sense," he smiled; then he dropped his voice to a shy whisper. "my opinion probably won't do much to change your mind, but if you ask me, i think you're truly stunning."

"remus, i—"

"REMY!" sirius shouted as the portrait swung open. "oh i have missed you, buddy. oh hello arden! am i interrupting something? oh moony did i just barge in on a sno—"

"sirius, are you drunk? bloody hell we were gone for 20 minutes! where the hell did you even get liquor?" remus shouted. 

"please don't be angry, remy and miss remy," he whined, plopping down on the floor. "ivory..."

remus had completely forgotten about the situation with ivory and sirius. he got caught up and didn't even think of it.

"rem i really don't feel good." it was visible. sirius was pale and looked sick. 

" come along, sirius, let's get you to the bathroom before you—" before arden could finish, sirius heaved on the carpet in front of him, "vomit. remus do you mind getting that while i go clean sirius up? which way is your room?"

"sure thing. it's up those stairs and to the left."

"thank you," she gave him a weak smile. she wrapped sirius's arm across her shoulder and hoisted him up. "come on, big guy, let's get you cleaned up." 

and so they went up the stairs and into the boys' dormitory.
