NINE; THE DOPPELGANGER OF DEATH
(3.22)
WHEN CHIONE CREATED THE RING FOR ANUBIS SHE USED THE BLOOD OF A DOPPELGรNGER. The woman was in a sleep that she couldn't wake up from. Her body never aged but blood still ran through her veins which Chione used for the ring. The blood became the life source of the ring. It would work until the last of that doppelgรคnger line would end. After that, the ring would be useless. Chione was informed about Amara's body and knew that it's what she needed in order to keep the ring working.
The blood still flowed in the ruby of the ring. The ring had many powers but only one could be used and Anubis had to decide which one to use. He could use the ring to turn into the jackal and get the venom. If he did so, he'd risk not turning back but he'd be able to kill the Originals, but their entire sire lines would diminish. Since the ring contained powerful magic and the blood of the doppelgรคnger, he could use it to bring back someone from the dead. It would've been intended for him but there were more dire uses. Bonnie had managed to put Klaus in a state like his father, Mikael, was before.
Anubis sat staring at the ruby red ring, admiring its power. The mark the ring had caused on Elijah Mikaelson was almost vanishing, which meant the ring was getting weaker which Anubis didn't understand. Anubis could no longer see or feel Elijah's emotions. Although it seemed impossible to Anubis the ring was losing its power.
"Have you ever heard the saying that if you look at something long enough you'll fall in love with it?" Damon stood at the door with a glass of whiskey in his hand.
"Yes, I have," Anubis answered, "Which explains a lot about your character."
"Ouch," Damon responded sarcastically, "What's the deal with you and that ring?"
The light from the room reflected on the ring which made Anubis move it back and forth between his fingers, "It holds a lot of power but it can only be used once."
"Mind explaining the part why you're looking at it so worried?" Damon asked holding the glass of whiskey up to his lips.
Anubis put the ring down and turned towards Damon, "The ring is losing its power," he started, "I don't know why or how, but it's getting weaker."
Damon furrowed his brows, "How do you know it's losing power?"
"When the ring was made, magic and blood was thrown into it making it the color that it is," Anubis started, "The color is draining from the ring,"
Damon stepped closer to Anubis, "And what are the many purposes that this ring can give us?"
Anubis sighed, "It can bring someone back from the dead, it can turn me back from a jackal or turn into one which can get us the venom we need to kill the Mikaelsons. It can condemn someone to the underworld,"
Damon opened his mouth slightly, "Wait, it can bring someone back from the dead?"
Anubis nodded, "It can turn me human or I could use that magic to bring someone back from the dead."
"Why didn't you say this before?" Damon asked.
"Because it's complicated magic," Anubis answered, "If we kill the Originals their entire sire lines will be eradicated from this earth. The magic won't work on a vampire because even though they are still dead, they're also alive. The only way to save the vampires he sired or any of the Mikaelsons is to sever that sire line between them and that takes a lot of magic."
Damon gritted his teeth with his eyebrows furrowed, "What is going on anyway?" Anubis asked, "Everyone's staying shut about everything,"
Damon sighed, "Long story short, you know Alaric is an 'Original' vampire created by Esther which is great, and now he wants to kill all the Originals, Klaus is desiccating slowly and his body is hiding somewhere and we're all trying to keep her safe because everyone is out to kill her,"
"So, our goal is to protect Elena, like always, stop Alaric from finding Klaus and killing him or else you'd be dead?"
"Sums it up," Damon smiled sarcastically, "Do you have a plan?" Damon asked,
Anubis pursed his lips, "If Elena dies without vampire blood in her system, we can stop Alaric and the ring can bring her back,"
"There's a flaw in your plan," Damon pointed out, "The ring is losing power and we're not letting Alaric die."
Anubis pursed his lips, "The ring will only be able to bring one human person back, you choose Elena or Alaric?"
Damon's jaw tightened with frustration, "There has to be another way," he started, "You've lived longer than all of us, come up with something."
"There's always going to be collateral damage, Damon," Anubis started, "But from what I've heard about you, none of that matters as long as Elena is safe. So, don't tell me what or what not to do because if you've noticed, I haven't killed you yet and that can change in a split second."
Damon pursed and inhaled deeply before leaving Anubis alone in the room. A few minutes later Bonnie walked into the room with her arms folded across her chest. She was timid when Anubis noticed her, he could tell she was nervous.
"I think I have a plan," Bonnie started, "I think it might get us what we need,"
Anubis furrowed his brows, "What is it?"
Bonnie walked closer to Anubis, "I can cast a spell to move Klaus' spirit out of his actual body and put it in someone else when Alaric goes to 'kill' him, it won't erase the sire line. In the body that Klaus is in, we get rid of his spirit and he won't be able to go back in another body or hurt anyone and we'd be safe." Her voice was low so only he could hear what she was saying.
"Whose body?" Anubis asked, "What about Rebekah and Elijah?"
Bonnie licked her lips looking up at Anubis' azure eyes, "Elijah gave his word to Elena that they would get rid of the stake and run away from Mystic Falls, so we don't have to worry about them. And as for the body, leave it to me."
"Bonnie, this is dangerous," he started, "If anything goes wro-"
"It won't," Bonnie whispered, "You have to trust me on this. Do you trust me?" She raised her eyebrows waiting for him to answer.
"Do you trust me?" he asked bluntly.
"Even though you can be a pain in the ass, so far you're one of the few people who care about me so let's go with yes."
"Then I do trust you," he answered,
"Good," Bonnie turned around leaving the room with the conversation in replaying in her head.

Anubis sat reading through books that belonged to Esther and from the witches of Egypt. He didn't know how he had managed to get them but he got them. He was skimming through the pages one by one trying to find information. He was reading one of Chione's diaries, the witch who had put him to sleep. He stopped at a page with a ruby ring on it.
Anubis furrowed his brows and he started from the top of the page:
"Anubis has been asleep for a decade now, the ring is still at its peak of power. The witches created a balance with the ring, since it is tied to a doppelganger the ring will die with the last generation of them. Once the ring loses its power it can no longer be returned. If Anubis were to transform a blood sacrifice would be needed to turn him human with a ritual. The witches from Bulgaria have spotted a young girl who resembles that of the doppelganger that the blood was taken from
-Chione"
Anubis was even more confused than before but the next page made his heart stop for a second. In the pages were pictures of the doppelganger that his life or magic was tied to, he felt his hands go stiff when he realized he was looking at the Petrova doppelgangers and that the last picture was of Elena Gilbert. The ring was tied to a doppelganger and the weaker it got was because of the doppelganger. The ring was predicting Elena Gilbert's death.
Anubis quickly got up and tried to find a phone, when he found one he dialed Bonnie's number immediately his fingers moved quickly trying to find her name, once he dialed her number a rush of relief went over him.
"Bonnie!" he said nervously, "You need to find Elena, now!"
"Anubis, slow down, what's wrong?" she asked over the phone.
"The ring is connected to a Petrova doppelganger, when it gets weak that means that the doppelganger is approaching death, that doppelganger and ring are tied to me and I don't know what's going to happen if she dies and rings color is getting paler by the second." All Anubis heard after that was nothing. He heard the empty beeping of the phone and that was it.
Anubis paced the Bennett Garden with his breath heaving with every second, Bonnie ran up to him with a worried look in her eyes, "Anubis, are you okay?" she asked.
"For now, I am." he responded, "How's Elena?" he asked.
"She won't answer her phone," Bonnie said shaking her head.
"Bonnie, this isn't good, I- I feel my chest closing up," Anubis started breathing more profoundly and Bonnie started to get nervous.
Anubis looked at Bonnie for one brief second before his body collapsed to the floor. At the same time, Elena Gilbert was had died and so did Alaric Saltzman. Bonnie ran over to the body of the unconscious god and kept slapping him to wake him up.
The last thing Anubis saw wasn't Bonnie Bennett, he saw the two spirits who had left as well. The last thing embedded in his mind was the smile of the heartbroken girl and the eyes of the man who lost his own battle.
Bonnie started to feel her throat close up and her eyes stung with tears as she yelled his name for him to wake up, that's when she noticed that the flowers in the garden were starting to die.
