All power demands sacrifice, pain, and bloodshed. For Nyx, Goddess of the Night, that sacrifice is her daughter.

In an attempt to take control over an aspect which she feels belongs to her, which she believes she has a claim to—the dreams, sleeps and nightmares of humanity—she arranges a marriage between Hemera and Dream of the Endless.

Unfortunately, Hemera has different plans. Unwilling to be a pawn in her mother's game of chess—another puppet sure to have it's strings cut once it's fulfilled it's purpose—she plans to escape the night before her wedding.

That is, until she catches Dream of the Endless trying to do the same.

Angered by his arrogance (did he really think she wasn't good enough for him?) she foils his plan—at the cost of her own escape.

Now living as a Queen in a foreign realm to a King who despises her and with a mother inching closer to the crown, she must confront her loyalties, and whether there's more to her brooding husband than meets the eye.

also, whilst we're on the topic of dream's lovers, you should note that this story will not have a happy ending, because in the comics, basically all of dream's relationships end in disaster, and i plan to continue the tradition 💖
