"Happy should be here with the kid any time now," Tony announced as he chose between which pair of sunglasses he was going to use.

Not even two days had passed after (Y/N)'s talk with Peter, and chaos soon followed after that. From what she heard from Happy's point of view and several police reports, he was able to stop a man named Adrian Toomes from robbing the plane filled with all of the Avengers' gadgets in it, even leaving the man tied up with his webs and a note that explained the situation.

Happy, just as Tony said, was in charge of picking Peter up from school and bringing him to the remodeled compound for a little chitchat, one that was very much needed. (Y/N) was just planning to greet the kid in her normal clothes, yet Tony strangely told her to dress up. His excuse being that they might have to face a press conference after it.

"Are you done deciding which tie I'm gonna wear?" he continued in a whiny tone, placing the sunglasses over his eyes. He stood in the middle of their shared bedroom with his foot impatiently hitting against the floor.

"Yes," (Y/N) grabbed the one she had decided in the end and smoothed the wrinkles. She gestured for him to come closer to her and helped him adjust it to his personal preference.

"Don't give me that look," she scolded him, feeling his judgmental stare as she fixed the tie. "I'm sorry if I wanted us to match for this particular occasion."

"It's not that, honey. It's the fact that we might be late," he corrected, fixing the collar of his shirt as it got stuck under the tie. "Aren't you ex-military? Weren't you taught to be strict about time?"

He raised his hands in defense when she shot him a glare. "Sorry. Rough spot."

Instead of responding to that, she cleared her throat and stepped back to analyze his outfit from a different angle. Tony rolled his eyes playfully at her antics and resumed to his anxious foot tapping.

"We're like one of those old couples."

"Oh, like you don't like that."

He stayed suspiciously silent at that remark. Even for (Y/N)'s liking. She raised her eyebrows in suspicion at him, yet she didn't say anything. She clasped her hands together, which declared she was satisfied with the result.

"Let's go."

"Finally."

(Y/N) looped her arm with Tony's and they both exited the room, walking through the empty hallway that once had other team members living behind those doors. Several agents or office workers passed by them and flashed polite smiles on their way to their respective destinations, something that was of natural occurrence on any normal day.

Happy was with Peter by a window, staring at a leaving quinjet flying through the air. At the sight of them, Tony decided to make their presence known. "Oh, there they are."

Both Happy and Peter turned around to face them. (Y/N) flashed the boy a smile when they locked eyes, to which he responded with an awkward wave.

"How was the ride up?"

"Good," Happy answered instead.

Tony gave him a look. "Give us a minute with the kid."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah," Tony nodded with full seriousness. "We both gotta talk with the kid."

"I'll be close behind."

"How about a loose follow? All right? Boundaries are good."

Happy didn't reply but instead stayed with an emotionless yet tired face. He was used to this type of behavior from him, so he didn't argue. He watched as (Y/N) and Tony stood on either sides of Peter, both placing their arms in a protective manner. It caused him to fight back a grin, the sight of them being protective over the teen was something he didn't see every day around here.

(Y/N) cleared her throat and encouraged Tony to say the first thing to Peter. "Sorry I took your suit." He looked up to search for her approval and then continued. "I mean, you had it coming. Actually, it turns out it was the perfect tough-love moment that you needed. To urge you on, right? Wouldn't you think? Don't you think?"

"I. . .I guess."

"Let's just say it was."

"Mr. Stark, I really β€” "

"You screwed the pooch hard, big time," he interrupted. "But then you did the right thing."

(Y/N) nodded with a hum. "Exactly, you fixed a mistake. Hooray! You're learning!"

"Took the dog to the free clinic, you raised the hybrid puppies β€” "

"Terrible analogy."

"Yeah, it's not my best one."

"Keep working on it."

"Maybe later."

At this point, Peter's neck ached from having to move his head from left to right to hear what they both had to say. Even Happy, who was trailing a few feet behind, grew exhausted from watching.

"Tony, we're straying from the topic.

"Sorry, sorry," Tony apologized. He patted Peter in the back and pointed a finger at him. "I was wrong about you. I think, with a little more mentoring, you could be a real asset to the team."

"To the β€” ? To the team?"

Tony removed his arm from Peter's shoulders and stopped guiding his walk. (Y/N) rubbed the teen's shoulders in a comforting manner before moving a step back. Peter still hadn't fully registered Tony's last words to him.

"Yeah," Tony replied as if it wasn't a big deal. He pointed toward a door a few feet away from them. "Anyway, there's about 50 reporters behind that door. Real ones, not bloggers."

Tony tapped a button on his smartwatch, which opened the capsule that contained a new suit prototype he'd been working on. "When you're ready β€” " the lights inside the capsule turned on and Peter was able to see what was inside. "Why don't you try that on?"

"And I'll introduce the world to the newest official member of the Avengers: Spider-Man."

Peter stepped closer to the capsule, stumbling to say something. "I β€” "

"Yeah, give that a look."

Peter was too busy ogling at the new suit, similar to the one he was used to wear but with a metallic hint to it. It almost looked like his own version of an Iron Man suit.

"After the press conference, Happy will show you to your room, your new quarters. Where's he between? He's next to Vision?"

"Yeah, Vision's not big on doors."

"It's fun."

"Or walls," (Y/N) added to Happy's statement.

"You'll fit right in."

Peter removed his eyes from the new suit and faced Tony with nerves written all over his body. He kept flickering his gaze from the man in front of him to the suit, as if he was not sure about what he was going to say.

"Thank you, Mr. Stark," Peter began. "But I'm good."

"You're good? Good β€” ? How are you good?"

"Well, I mean, I'd rather just stay on the ground for a little while," he completed. "Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Somebody's got to look out for the little guy, right?"

Tony removed his sunglasses with indignation. "You're turning me down? You better think about this. Look at that. Look at me."

"Last chance. Yes or no?"

"No."

"Okay. It's kind of a Springsteen-y working class hero vibe that I dig," Tony shrugged and placed his sunglasses in the tuxedo pocket. "Uh, Happy will take you home. Yeah?"

Happy came into view with a nod. "Yeah," he pointed behind him. "Mind waiting in the car? I need a minute."

Peter faced Tony again. "Thank you, Mr. Stark."

"Yes, Mr. Parker, very well."

They exchanged a farewell handshake.

"See you around."

"Okay," Tony wasn't seeing him anymore.

Tony pressed on his smartwatch again and this made the capsule shut down and close. Peter walked down the same path he had been guided through, but he stopped midway through.

"That was a test, right?" he questioned. "There's nobody back there?"

"Yes, you passed," Tony answered with his hands behind his back. "All right, skedaddle there, young buck."

"Say hi to May for me!" (Y/N) called out.

"I will!" he started walking backward to give his final goodbye. "Thank you, Mr. Stark."

"Yeah, thank you."

Peter turned his back to the adults and left through the hallway he had entered through. (Y/N) watched him go and disappear from her line of sight with a somehow proud look, knowing she was right about him. She couldn't wait to see his potential develop throughout the years.

Happy had his hands on his pockets. "Told you he's a good kid."

Tony didn't say anything and instead opened his arms with a shrug and a confident smirk. The door behind them opened and the loud chattering from the reporters filled (Y/N)'s ears. From behind the door, a man was holding the door open for someone to walk through, and Pepper's recognizable strawberry blonde hair flashed in front of her eyes as she stomped into the room with impatience written all over her face.

"Where's the kid?" she asked once the door was shut behind her, eyes searching for someone.

"He left," Happy was the one to answer.

"Everybody's waiting."

"He actually made a mature choice," Tony responded this time. "It just surprised the heck out of us."

Pepper's eyes flickered through the men with annoyance. "Did you guys screw this up?"

"He told the kid to go wait in the car."

The gears inside of (Y/N)'s head turned and clicked together, a big piece in all of this missing. She was sure that Peter was going to accept the offer, and that the press conference was brought in because of that. Her eyebrows furrowed, and she mirrored Pepper's look as well.

"Hey, I thought the press conference was for the kid too," she spoke up and crossed her arms. "They're outside waiting for a big announcement, what are you gonna tell them?"

"Pepper'll think of something," Tony shrugged and faced the blonde. "Aren't you?How about, um β€” ? Hap, you still got that ring?"

"Do I β€” ? I β€” ?"

"The engagement ring."

"Are you kidding?" Happy pretended to search through his suit's pockets before pulling it out, holding it in between his fingers. "I've been carrying this since 2010!"

(Y/N) stared at the ring in his hands and couldn't help but stare. She felt as if she had died and this was an hallucination. Her heart was going to pop out of her chest from beating too loudly, so loud that she was able to hear it in her ears.

"If that's the best you've got, I'm leaving out the front door right now and never come back," was the first thing she said, eyes on Tony. "Pepper can think of something better than that."

When (Y/N) turned her head to face the woman, she found her to be hiding a grin on her lips. It made her jaw drop to see her be an accomplice to this, something that she'd never imagined she would do.

"You really think that low of me?" he placed a hand in fake hurt. "It would buy us a little time. Like we need some time."

(Y/N) scoffed and turned around on her heel, heading toward the door that was behind her. She was shaking her head in disbelief. "I can't believe you have that in your pocket."

"Want me to get the door for you, hon?"

"I got it."

Tony held out the door for him to walk through, not before he could the ring as Happy threw it at him. He closed the door behind him and he was immediately harassed by the dozens of reporters all crowded together. They were desperate for any type of news, so Tony raised his hand toward the crowd as an intend to make them quiet down and also as a form of greeting.

"Sorry for the wait, folks," he told the crowd, joining (Y/N)'s side.

"What is the big announcement, Mr. Stark?" one of the female reporters asked, holding her microphone up in the air for the response.

Tony grinned at the question, as if he was waiting for someone to question him. "I'm glad you asked that. I've been waiting for this moment for a while now."

All of the reporters were moving forward with anticipation, waiting for him to say something and record it all. Tony, on the other hand, directed his attention to (Y/N) standing on the right, turning his body to face her entirely. She furrowed her eyebrows at his actions, yet she allowed him to grab her hands with his.

"(Y/N)," he began, and got down on one knee.

(Y/N) shook her head in denial, as if she still couldn't believe he was actually doing this. The reporters gasped along with her in surprise, and their respective camera men raised their equipment in the air to get a better angle of the scene.

"You've been on my side for a long time now, from college to being Avengers together," he continued, reciting the words he'd been practicing in front of a mirror for a month now. "I lost you once, and somehow I got lucky enough to find you again, so I don't doubt that if we face something like that again, we'll find our way back to each other. I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I'm not stupid enough to question my luck. You're the only one that truly gets me and the one who I want to spend the rest of my life with."

He grabbed the ring from his pocket and held it between his fingers for her and the crowd to see, the dazzling diamond shining with the beam of sunlight. It looked like it might've cost a fortune.

"Will you marry me?"

(Y/N) felt all the words die in her mouth. She was sure that if she said something, she would've been a stuttering mess. She grew even more nervous because they were in front of an audience, and all the eager eyes waiting for her response whether it was good or bad.

"Say something, honey," Tony lost confidence at the absolute silence from her end. "Yell at me, tell me I'm an idiot for rushing you into this, tell β€” "

(Y/N) removed her hands over her mouth to finally answer. "Yes."

"I understand β€” " He snapped his head and the words registered in his mind. "What?"

"Yes, I want to marry you."

"Are you sure?"

She laughed at his absurdity and gestured for him to stand up. "Shut up and kiss me!"

He grinned at her words, a sense of deja vu passing through his mind. "Yes, ma'am."

He got up from his knee and carefully grabbed her hand again to place the ring on the right finger. At the same time, the entire crowd erupted in cheers and camera clicks, even some people awed at the exchange between the couple.

After the ring was in the right spot, Tony grabbed (Y/N)'s head in his hands and pressed his lips against hers. They both melted into the show of affection, and all sounds blurred into one. (Y/N)'s arms were locked around his neck to pull him closer, not caring if they ran out of air.

When they pulled away, Tony snaked an arm on (Y/N)'s waist and tugged her close.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we're done here. We have a wedding to plan."
