Chapter 46

Memorial

A/N: Filler chapter as Klaus wasn't in this episode! Hope you like it. Holly xx

It's been a couple of hours after the reunion between Lola and Klaus. After Lola slapped Klaus she went upstairs and he hasn't heard anything from her since. He knows she's angry, he knows she's upset, and all he wants to do is apologise until the end of time but he knows Lola far too well and knows he needs to give her space right now.

It's after midnight now and Klaus decides to go into their bedroom, when he does he is greeted with silence. Lola isn't in their bedroom. It's then he notices all the destruction that happened when he was gone, including the globe where they both decided on a destination they were going to start their forever.

Klaus picks up all the postcards that are scattered around the room that he collected over the years of places they both promised they would go to together. He bows his head and sighs as guilt takes over.

He checks every room to see where Lola is but can't find her until he notices the door to Kol's bedroom is slightly ajar. Klaus opens the door wider where he sees Lola sitting on the floor with her back to the door beside the bed.

"I know Kol only stayed in this room a maximum of two days but I still think we should sanitise it before we come in here." Klaus jests as he steps into the room, he frowns when he gets no response from Lola, "Sweetheart?"

It's then he notices Lola staring down at a photograph with a sombre look in her eyes, "We look so happy here." Lola says quietly, not taking her eyes off the photograph.

Klaus sits besides Lola on the floor, he moves the photograph slightly to see it was from Christmas in 1914, "I didn't realise Kol was the sort to have keepsakes."

"It's mine." Lola says, "I'd do anything to be back here, not having all the worries we have right now. I mean I know not long after this photograph was taken you daggered Kol because he was planning to create a dagger to use against you but still, we were happy. At least happier than we are now." Lola scoffs as she tosses the photo to the other side of the room then runs her hands through her hair, "I miss our life, I miss our home, our city...Marcel."

"Love, I am so sorry for what happened. If there was time I'd have told you what I was going to do, but there wasn't any."

"It's fine, it's just...I was so scared." Lola looks over to Klaus with tears in her eyes, "I was so scared I was going to have to live this life without you. I've done it before and I didn't want to do it again. I cannot do this without you, Nik."

"You will never have to, do you understand?" Klaus says as he moves hair away from Lola's face, "I'll always be here by your side from now on." He stands up and holds his hand out for her, "You need some rest after everything that's happened over the last couple of days, come on."

Lola shakes her head as she moves his hand away, "No. I can't go back in there. I can't."

"Why?"

"I ruined everything in there, I can't face it all."

"That's fine, we'll just stay in here."

"No." Lola says quickly, she brings her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them, "I want to be on my own right now."

Klaus hesitates to leave for a moment before kissing Lola on the top of her head and leaving the room.

------------------------------------------------

The next morning, Lola walks down the hall when she notices the door to her and Klaus' bedroom is wide open and sees Klaus with a couple of his hybrids inside.

"What are you doing?" Lola asks as she walks into the room with her arms crossed against her chest.

Klaus smiles over to Lola then looks around the room, "I know it's not exactly how it was, but it's a start."

Lola follows Klaus' eyes around the room and notices everything that she destroyed was gone, new decor has replaced the broken decor, "You did all this over night?"

Klaus nods over to his hybrids to signal for them to leave which they do. Once they leave Klaus walks over to Lola, "You look surprised. I've also fixed this." He grabs the same globe Lola smashed now glued back together, "Figured we could pick up where we left off and go away."

Lola rests her head against Klaus' chest, "I'm sorry I slapped you."

Klaus laughs as he wraps his arms around Lola's waist, "So what do you say we pack our bags and go somewhere far away from here?"

"I love that idea." Lola says as she smiles up at him, Klaus leans in closer but Lola moves away, "But there's just something I need to do first. I've asked Rebekah to meet me at the grill to talk after last night." Klaus rolls his eyes and steps away, "Klaus, if I hadn't walked in when I did you'd have broke her neck, that's not okay."

"She deserved it."

"Don't start with that because it's just going to end in an argument and you're the one that's going to lose the argument." Lola says as she walks out of the bedroom, but then pops her head back round the door frame, "How about you just loath Rebekah in your own time while I go and make sure she's okay."

------------------------------------------------

"What are you doing here?" Damon asks as he sits on the stool beside Lola in the grill.

Lola rolls her eyes, "Well I was enjoying some peace and quiet, but guess that's done now."

"Are you seriously going to keep up this whole you hate me act?" Damon smirks as he playfully hits Lola's arm, "You always do this and can never keep it going for long."

Lola takes Damon's bourbon the second the waiter places it in front of him, then smiles over to him, "How's Elena? Enjoying her new life?" Damon rolls his eyes as he leans over the counter taking a full bottle of bourbon making Lola laugh, "Oh, that bad, huh?"

"How long was it until you killed someone when you first turned?"

"About 3 minutes."

Damon nods, throwing his hands up, "Thank you."

"Why? Is Elena trying to not kill anyone?" Damon nods making Lola scoff, "People always say that but never lasts long, I don't think I can name one vampire that hasn't killed someone."

"That's exactly what I said." Damon says, "Stefan is trying to get her used to animal blood." Lola bursts out laughing, making Damon glare over to her, "Really?"

She covers up her laugh by clearing her throat, "Sorry I shouldn't laugh, it's really more sad than funny." She perks up again, hitting Damon against his arm, "Hey, has Stefan said her emotions are heightened yet?"

Damon rolls his eyes, "Real nice."

"Good luck with your little plaything." Lola teases as she stands up, leaning down to Damon's ear, "She's never gonna last."

As Lola walks out of the grill, she is met with Rebekah who was just about to enter, "Finally!"

"What do you want, Lola?" Rebekah says in an uninterested manner.

"Woah why act like a bitch to me, what have I done?"

Rebekah sighs, "Nothing, I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

"It's fine, I've missed you already back at the house. It's so empty now."

"If you're trying to hint at me coming back, Lola, I'm not."

Lola frowns, "Wait, what?"

Liz Forbes walks over to the pair, "Lola, have you seen Damon?"

Lola rolls her eyes, "Yes, sadly. He's in there, Liz." Liz nods and then enters the grill, Lola turns her attention back to Rebekah, "If you're not coming home where are you going?"

"I've found my own place."

"But why?"

Rebekah shrugs, "I want a fresh start."

Lola sighs, "So come away with us like we planned before everything happened! Let's get out of this town for good, that's a fresh start!"

Rebekah shakes her head, "For you maybe."

A gentleman now walks over to the pair, "Excuse me, ladies?"

Lola puts her hand up at the man, "Sh, private conversation!"

She takes Rebekah's arm and moves away from the man, "What is it with people interrupting conversations today?!" Lola looks over Rebekah's shoulder to identify the man who interrupted them but she doesn't recognise the muscular, shaved head man wearing fingerless leather gloves, she frowns, "Who even is that guy?"

Rebekah places both hands on either of Lola's arms to get her attention, "Just go and have your fresh start with my brother." Rebekah removes her hands from Lola, "In all honesty the further away he goes the better."

Lola throws her hands up, "So that's it?"

Rebekah narrows her eyes towards Lola, "You're acting like you're surprised it's happening."

"Well I kind of am. Why are you being like this?"

"You heard everything Niklaus said the other night, I'm nothing to him."

"Come on, Rebekah, he didn't mean it." Lola says, trying to reason with her, "He was just his classic angry self because you burst his little hybrid fantasy."

"Aren't you tired of all this, Lola?" Rebekah questions with a harsh tone in her voice, "The constant defending Nik after all the wrong he has done? Is this really how you want to live your immortal life?"

Lola is taken aback slightly at Rebekah's sudden outburst, she scoffs as she looks over to her best friend, "At least I'm not living mine by going to High School where the entire school hates me."

Rebekah rolls her eyes, making Lola bite more, "It's pathetic, Rebekah. You could be travelling the world, living your life when you claim you've not lived it. But instead you're staying in a pathetic little town going to school dances and completing chemistry projects!"

"This conversation is over." Rebekah snaps as she glares over to her. She pushes past Lola and walks away, "Enjoy your fresh start."

Lola closes her eyes and takes a deep breath, instantly regretting what she said to Rebekah. She turns around to the direction Rebekah walks in but she's gone.

-----------------------------------------------

Klaus walks into the study where Lola is on her third bourbon since she came back from the grill, "Where have you been?"

"Well I drank a bottle of tequila, argued with my brother then argued with your sister." Lola flashes a sarcastic grin, "It's been a great day and it's not even dark outside yet."

Klaus frowns, "What happened?"

"I don't want to talk about it." Lola finishes off her bourbon and places the empty glass on the drinks table, "Can we leave this town now?"

"Where to first?"

"Chicago."

"Chicago?"

Lola shrugs, "I still have my apartment there, I want to get the rest of my things."

"Very well, Chicago it is."
