🪐~Prologue~🪐
A/N: I had to move the prologue up three years from the original prologue in the movie. Jim and Lucy are like, 6 and 3.
"On the clearest of nights...when the winds of the Etherium were calm, and peaceful, the great merchant ships with their cargoe of Acturian solar crystals felt safe and secure, little did they know. They were being pursued by...pirates!"
A lone ship, the "Argentum", swiftly follows behind. A black flag embroidered with a skull, three eyes and fangs harshly flaps in the wind. A pirate, the captain, stands at the deck of the ship. His arms folded across his chest as he stared at the cargo ship with a sneer.
"And the most feared of all these pirates. was the notorious "Captain
Nathaniel Flint."
Flint turns to his crew, a devilish smirk painted his lips. He raises his clawed hand and brings it down, his eyes burning with glee. "FIRE!" He yelled, his voice ringing through the air. The Argentum fires, it's cannons firing one by one as Flint and his crew laugh at the chaos they've begun.
In the main hall, civilians turn and scream as the lights turn off, scared and confused. A women hugs her husband tightly, terrified of what is to come. Both ships crews begin to fire at each other, wanting nothing more than blood and revenge.
The head of a young boy pops up, his face showing excitement as he watches the scene. Sporting a lopsided grin, he lied bed, his feet swinging in the air as he watches his book.
The boy gasps as a pirate brings his sword down on an unsuspecting crew mate, but quickly covers his mouth and looks to his left, the small body of his younger sister moves up and down as she breathes.
Her brown hair peaks out from under the covers, as she snores softly.
He breathed a sigh of relief, glad he hadn't woken her up. The boy double checks that his sister is sleeping before continuing on with his book.
"Like a Candarian Zaftwing overtaking its prey-"
The bedroom door is suddenly swung open, a women wearing a night gown appears in the doorway. She puts one hand on her hip as the other is placed flat against the door. "James Pleiades Hawkins!" She scolds as she watches her son shove his story book under his pillow and crawl back under the covers, his back facing her as he pretends to be asleep.
"I thought you two were asleep an hour ago." James pouts lightly as he sits up, careful to not wake the little girl next to him. "Mom." he drags out, "I was just getting to the best part!"
He grabs his book from under the pillow, hugging it tightly towards his chest. "Please?" He pleads, he pulls his lips into a pout, his blue eyes begging for his mom to let him continue. "Oh, can those eyes get any bigger?" She teased with an eye roll, as she makes her way towards him. "Scoot overs" she says, as she slides herself onto the bed.
James got excited, silently celebrating as he moves over for his mom, accidentally knocking his elbow against his sister's head, abruptly waking her. "Owww." she whined, placing her hand on the top of her head to try and ease the pain.
"Jimmyyyy." she drawls out, rolling over onto her back and catching the attention of her mother and older brother. "Stop flailing your noodle arms." she says, her voice groggy but strict.
Her gray blue eyes make contact with her brother's baby blue ones, she softly glares at him, wondering what he was doing. James winces lightly, sucking in a breath through his teeth.
"Sorry, Lulu, I didn't mean to! I was just reading my book, but..." he trails off, eyes shifting towards their mother who sat next to him, smiling softly at her two children.
"Evening, Mom!" The little girl beamed happily, her mood completely changing upon setting eyes on her mother. "Are you going to read with us??" She asks curiously as she sits up, her brown hair sticks out in many different ways, making it seem like a bird nest.
"With?? Please, you fell asleep the minute I opened the book!" James retorts, eyeing his sister's messy hair, snickering silently as he imagines small chicks nesting on top of her head.
"Did not!" The little girl argues, annoyed by her brother, she threw a pillow at him, which he dodged. "Alright, alright!!" Sarah Hawkins laughs out, amused by her children, "Do you want to continue the story or not?"
"Yes!!" Both children reply happily, their banter from earlier quickly forgotten. They both scramble to get comfortable, James leaning against his mother, while Lucy leaned over him to get a better view of the book, ignoring her James's complaints about being too close.
Sarah smiles and opens the book, the narrator continuing with their previous sentence.
"Like a Candarian Zaftwing overtaking its prey, Flint and his band of renegades..."
The merchant ships stands still as the Argentum creeps closer, the pirates cast lines, allowing them to swiftly jump aboard and start raiding.
"Swooped in out of nowhere!"
As the merchants tried desperately to fend off the pirates, Captain Flint unsheathes his sword, and slices open a lock. A never ending supply of gems, jewels and gold spills out, Flint looks down with wide eyes, cupping two handfuls of gold in his hands.
His mouth pulls back into a large smile and opened his mouth and releases a loud, victorious laugh. He looks onwards, satisfied with his reward. Flint and his crew collect all the gold they could carry, and hauled it back to their ship.
They detach from the merchant ship and sail away, leaving the unfortunate passengers stranded, as their ship crumbled around them.
"And then gathering up their spoils..."
The Argentum continues onward, a green flash surrounds the ship, Captain Flint and his crew are absorbed by the light, suddenly vanishing. leaving no trace of their presence.
"Vanished without a trace..."
The trio all look up at the same time,
"ooooohhhhh" they say at the same time, causing James and Lucy to start giggling at their silliness.
"Flints secret trove was never found."
A green mist appears, thick in appearance and stretches wide, as if it were seemingly trying to keep something hidden.
"But stories have persisted that it remains hidden. somehere in the farthest reaches of the galaxy.. stowed away with riches beyond imagination..."
The mist becomes a darker shade of green, but slowly starts dispersing, revealing what it wanted to be kept secret.
"The loot of a thousand worlds..."
"Treasure Planet." James and
Lucy said with the narrator, both in awe of the picture, the whole planet was a light brown color, two rings surrounding it intersecting each other, seemingly looking like a giant "X".
One made of rocks and the other made of a faint green light. Sarah gently closes the book as the story continued, she takes a rag out of her dress pocket and holds it against James's nose. "Okay, blow your nose."
James does as he's told, blowing into his mothers rag, Lucy's brows furrow as she looks at him, "Ew" she says softly, but it didn't go unnoticed by the boy. "Shut up." he grumbles with an eye roll, not bothered to start another argument with her.
The girl smiled softly at him, causing James to mirror the same action. "How do you think Captain Flint did it mom?" James asked as he climbed onto his headboard, Sarah was busy putting away her sons book.
Lucy sat crisscrossed on the bed, her eyes never leaving her brother as he scampered around his bed board. Sarah turns to answer her son, but is confused to see only one of her kids in the bed, she looks at Lucy with a questioning look, but the girl was to distracted watching her adventurous older brother.
"How'd he swoop in out of nowhere-" James starts as Sarah turns to her son with wide eyes, she quickly holds out her arms as he jumps off the headboard, but dosent catch him in time, causing him to land on the mattress, face first, making Lucy bounce slightly at the action.
Unfazed by what happened, James continues his question. He crawls under his blanket, then pops his head out from underneath. "And vanish! Without a trace??" His actions cause his little sister to laugh at her brother, amused at his antics.
"I have no idea." Sarah says as she creeps up on James, she grabs him under his arms and pulls him towards her. "Come her you little-" her sentence gets cut off by her son trying to get out of her hold.
They both laugh, but Sarah stops upon seeing her youngest daughter watching the two with a fond smile on her round face. Sarah grabbed by her ankle, which causes her to squeal, and pulls her towards them.
"I'm gonna get-!" She blows a raspberry onto her sons small tummy, and tickles Lucy's sides, causing both children to fall down in laughter.
Sarah takes a moment to look at her two kids giggling next to eachother, a gentle smile graces her lips as stares at them, silently praying that they would keep their innocence. "Okay, now it's time for these little spacers to get to bed." She reminds them, as she moves them towards their respected pillows.
She softly taps James's nose with her pointer finger. "Do you think sombody'll ever find Treasure Planet?" He asks, Lucy looks up, also curious of what the answer will be.
Sarah's eyebrows pull together in question as she hears a squeaking sound, she reaches under her sons pillow and pulls out a small toy. She faces the two, who were still waiting for an answer. "Sweethearts." she begins, as she stares at the squeaking toy with a raised brow.
"I think it's more of.." she gently places the toy on the night stand, "a legend!" James begins to frown, "I know it's real." he states firmly, no hesitation in his answer. "Me too!!" Lucy eagerly replies, her hands balled into fists as she held the covers.
"We'll find it one day, Jimmy and I!" She promises. Both her mother and brother stare at her, wide-eyed. "I'll look forward to it" Sarah replied with a smile, "Me too." James says softly, as he stares at his little sister.
Sarah bends down and gently cups each of their cheeks with each of her hands, "You both win, it is real" she says. She kisses them both softly on their foreheads, and begins to stand up.
"Nighty-night mom!" James says as his mother makes her way to the door. "Nighty-night Mom!"
the girl echoed. "Nighty-night sweethearts" Sarah says in a whisper, as she gently closes the door.
"I love you." she says. "Love you too" both siblings reply with a yawn, beginning to lay down to sleep. Sarah stops to look at her children for a second longer, and shuts the door, her footsteps retreating.
After a beat of silence, both children sit up as James reaches over and grabs the book. They both get settled, pressing their cheeks together to get a better look at the book, not caring about personal space.
Eagerly opening the book to the last page, the narrator begins their final sentence...
"There are nights when the winds of Etherium, so inviting in their promie of flight and freedom..made ones spirit... soar!"
As Lucy and Jim watched the pages come to life with pirates looting the merchant ships, the little girl slightly covered her eyes with her hand. "Pirates are scary. And mean," Lucy declared.
"But they're so cool!" James countered, eyes glued on the book.
"But they steal, and that's mean," the little girl reasoned.
"That's what makes them so cool!" Lucy shushed Jim, so their mother wouldn't hear him, and suspect that the two of them were still up.
Quickly climbing off the bed, she reached under it to grab the spyglass their father gave to them. Putting it to her eye, she didn't her brother's room anymore. Instead, she saw vast space, with stars floating all around Nothing else in sight.
Lucy expanded the spyglass's length, and suddenly you saw a thin moon in the distance. "Do you think I could find pirates with this?" Lucy asked her brother, waving your spyglass.
"Yeah! Just like that, they have cool weapons and gadgets, and get to travel the stars," James said more quietly this time, looking at his sister and the telescope. "They get to do whatever they want. Don't you ever wanna do that?"
Lucy mulled that over in her three-your-old head. She was a bit of a daydreamer, so imagining doing whatever she wanted and exploring planets beyond her imagination was enticing to the young girl.
"I guess so. We can go exploring, but not as pirates. If we ever do find pirates though, you have to promise to protect me, okay? I still don't like them," the little girl bargained.
Her brother grinned. "Of course! What kind of brother would I be if I let my baby sister be looted by pirates?" His sister giggled. "And I will do the same. No pirates are going to plunder us!"
"Never!" James agreed.
Lucy held out her pinky to him.
"Pinky promise?"
James hooked his pinky finger around his sister's, sealing the promise. "Pinky promise."
