Kitty wrapped her arms around Anna as she cried. She felt terrible. She felt so terrible.
"Shhhhhhhhhhh....." Kitty didn't know what to say. Anna shook with sobs and curled into Kitty. She felt the sadness ebb over her in waves, and wasn't entirely sure if she was sad or not. She shouldn't be sad that Clarissa was dead after she had admitted all she had. In fact, Anna realized she wasn't sad about the death but to all of the things Clarissa had said. Maybe she wasn't good enough. Maybe she would better off leaving everyone and everything alone. Anna took a deep breath.
"I'm going in to see her," she declared, before walking off under Kitty's concerned eye. She stood by the curb. This was it. This was how she wanted her life to end. She heard the rumble of a truck coming towards her and shut her eyes. Kitty gasped before rushing to pull Anna out of the way, cradling her body in her arms.
"Don't you dare give up on life, Anna of Cleves." she reprimanded gently as a crowd gathered around and she shooed them away, pulling Anna to her feet. "We're going home."
Anna was sat on the sofa, a shell of the bouncy, bubbly person she usually was.
"I... Are... Ummm... I'm really bad at this," Kitty said guiltily as she sat down across the room from Anna, not wanting to get too close without her saying it was ok.
"No, it's fine, I'm fine," she pulled a smile onto her face. "Can we watch a movie or something?" Kitty nodded and handed her the remote.
"You can choose something on Disney plus if you want? I think I have Netflix too but everything on there is kind of trashy soo..." she blabbered nervously. Anna had that effect on her. She watched as Anna scrolled through the films, landing on Mulan. Anna crossed the room and sat down next to her, resting her head on Kitty's shoulder as Kitty started to write.
"Serena rolled her eyes at Jasmine. 'One day he's going to know. He'll know your birthday, your middle name, where you were born, your star sign and your parents' names. He'll know how old you were when you learned to ride a bike, how your grandparents passed away, how many pets you had and how much you hated going to school. He'll know your eye colour, your scars, your freckles, your laughter lines and your birthmarks. He'll know your favourite book, movie, chocolate, food, pair of shoes, colour and song. He's going to know why you're awake at 5am most nights, where you were when you realized you lost a good friend, why you picked up the razor and how you managed to put it down before things went too far. He's going to know your phobias, your dreams, your fears, your wishes and your worries. He's going to know about your first heartbreak, your dream wedding and your problems with your parents. He'll know your strengths, weaknesses, laziness, energy and your mixed emotions. He's going to know about your love for mayonnaise, your dream of being famous when you were five, your need to quote any film you know all the way through and your fear of growing older. He'll know your bad habits, your mannerisms, your stroppy pout, your facial expressions and your laugh like it's his favourite song. The way you chew, drink, walk, sleep, fidget and kiss. He's going to know that you've already picked out wedding flowers, baby names, tiles for the bathroom, bridesmaid dresses and the colour of your bedroom walls. He's going to know, get annoyed at and then accept that you leave clothes everywhere, take twenty minutes to order a starbucks drink, have to organize your DVD's alphabetically and check your horoscope... just in case. He'll know your fast food order, how many sugars to put in your tea, how many scoops of ice cream you want and that you like your sandwiches cut into triangles. He's going to know how you feel without you telling him, that you need a hug from the look on your face and that you're crying without shedding tears. He's going to know it all. Everything. You, from bottom to top and inside out. From learning, from sharing, from listening, from watching. He's going to know every single thing there is to know, and you know what else? He is still going to love you."ย
Kitty fell asleep as the credits started to roll, her fingers entwined in Anna's and her body nestled close. Kitty relaxed into her and her eyes drooped and she fell asleep.
It was the morning. Or was it? It looked dark outside but Kitty was being shaken awake by something. Oh wait, someone. More specifically Anna. Who happened to have her bags packed and be fully dressed.
"What? Anna?" Kitty murmured. "What? Where are you going?" she sat bolt upright.
"Hey shhh calm down, you don't need to stress. I'm really really appreciative of everything you have done for me and I really hope we stay in touch until we meet again."
"I don't understand... are you going to Clarissa's house?"ย
Anna tensed up. "No, I'm going home."
"Home? What do you mean home?" Her heart started to beat faster.
"Kitty, I'm going back to Germany."
