eight.

PEYTON rushed to open the door when Hazel rang the bell. Penelope followed immediately but her daughter was quicker to open. Hazel looked at them, confused by the rushed state they were in. Peyton knew very well that if she left the brunette alone with her mother, she was going to be treated to a host of embarrassing questions, and she wasn't going to let that happen.

"Come on in." Peyton took a step back to make way for Hazel.

The girl smiled as she entered and Penelope quickly rushed to take her in her arms. Hazel seemed a little surprised at Mrs. Holloway's familiarity and she awkwardly returned the hug.

"Mom, can you let go of her, please." Peyton rolled her eyes as she closed the door.

Penelope walked away with a big smile. "Sorry. I'm just really happy you're here, Hazel."

"Thank you, madam. I bought this, I don't know if—" Hazel began, handing her a bottle of wine.

"Thank you, you shouldn't have! And no madam, call me Penny." the woman told her before glancing at her daughter. "She's better than that jerk Allan."

"Great, Mom, it's not awkward at all." Peyton replied with an embarassed look.

"What? I'm just saying." her mother gave a knowing smile to Hazel. "When do you have to leave?"

"In an hour and a half." the blonde girl replied.

The girls decided to get revenge on Jeff that same evening by throwing eggs and toilet paper at his house. It had changed all the plans for Peyton and Hazel's evening but they had decided to have dinner as decided and join the others afterwards.

"Okay, let's eat then." Penelope declared.

Dinner went well despite Mrs. Holloway's sometimes embarrassing questions. She seemed to adore Hazel, which made Peyton feel guilty for lying to her about her fake relationship with the brunette. When the van with the rest of the group picked them up, the two girls quickly left the house to avoid Penelope's questions about what they were about to do.

The van parked in front of Jeff's house and the girls dispersed. Peyton found herself with Sofia, Annie and Sylvie to throw the toilet paper. Annie was trying to explain to Sylvie how to do it because she couldn't throw it correctly. After a while, PJ gave the signal for them to regroup and the girls all returned to the van. Well, almost all of them.

"Where is Hazel?" the blonde girl asked.

PJ looked around. "Does anyone know where the fuck Hazel is?"

Peyton frowned in worry but she finally saw Hazel who was running towards them. "It's gonna blow!"

"Oh wow, yeah, it's gonna blow, guys." PJ mocked.

It did blow. Everyone screamed as Jeff's car was burning. Hazel ran into Peyton's arm and the girl grabbed her to lead her to the van.

"Let's go, let's go!" everyone yelled.

They all got into the van and drove away before Jeff or his parents saw them.

"I can't believe you actually set off a bomb." Peyton said to Hazel, but you could tell by her slight smile that she was amused by the situation.

The brunette shrugged. "He deserved it."

      "Yes, he did."

The next day, they came back to reality. The girls were sitting on the bleachers of the gymnasium, staring at PJ and Josie who were standing in front of them.

"All right, some of us clearly have a different definition of egging." Josie started. "But if we keep our mouth shut, stay calm, we'll be fine."

"They're gonna shut us down, aren't they?" Sylvie asked.

PJ frowned. "What? No, we don't know that. What— Why—"

"Principal Meyers will believe whatever Jeff, Allan and Tim say." Brittany told her. "I don't really see how we recover from this."

"You know, it's been real, guys." Hazel said.

"Okay, let's not jump to conclusions with the goodbyes and—" PJ started.

"I'm gonna miss you guys so much." Hazel sighed.

"And like, at least we went out with a bang!" Sylvie exclaimed. "I mean, that was fucking insane! There was fire everywhere!"

"Hey, wait, stop!" PJ told them. "We don't— wait, no, we don't know that for sure."

"PJ, don't be sad it's over. Be happy in happened." Annie smiled peacefully.

"Yes, it was beautiful, we'll always have that." Sofia nodded.

PJ rolled her eyes. "Okay, can anyone calm the fuck down, please? The club is not over, Josie, right?"

Isabel smiled. "No matter what, this club has brought me so much. I feel so much more powerful and, protected." she looked at Josie.

      "Me too." the girl breathed.

"Okay, great." PJ rolled her eyes again.

Hazel stood up. "Oh my God, PJ, I'm sorry you didn't get what you wanted out of this group, but I think the rest of us did."

"Oh, good for you, Hazel. I'm glad that you finally get to fuck Peyton and that you wrote one e-mail. Accomplished a lot." PJ mocked.

"I actually did! I practically ran this club for you and Josie!" the brunette exclaimed, willfully ignoring the first part of the accusation.

Josie stepped up. "Hey, let's calm down maybe—"

"You really think that you are the reason that we have this club?" PJ glared at Hazel.

"The reason, no, but I can tell everyone that if you want." the short-haired girl threatened.

"Hazel, uh, hey, let's calm down." Josie freaked out.

"You're really ungrateful." PJ continued. "You're really lucky that we even let you be a part of this."

"PJ! You're a liar." Hazel said.

There was a silence for a second and PJ smiled. "Yeah, well, you have no friends, and a skank as a mom, so..."

"Dude!" Peyton stood up, giving PJ a 'are you serious' look.

She turned to Hazel and the pain in the brunette's eyes broke her heart. The Callahan girl lowered her head, looking around, seemingly searching for what to do, before finally grabbing her bag and heading down the stairs to leave the room.

"Hazel." Peyton called but she didn't look back.

The blonde grabbed her bag and with a dirty look to PJ, she followed the girl. When she arrived in the hallway, Hazel was no longer there. Peyton walked through the school to find her. She looked in the bathrooms, in the empty classrooms and in the yard, before finally finding Hazel sitting against the wall in a corner of the courtyard. With Tim.

Peyton approached them with a frown. "What are you doing?"

The question was actually more directed to Tim. Peyton knew him because he was a close friend of Allan. And she knew how manipulative he could be. He stood up seeing the girl's dark gaze and gave her an innocent smile.

"I was just talking with Hazel."

"Are you done?" she replied in a cold tone.

"Yes. She's all yours." he smiled as he walked away.

Peyton followed him with her eyes with a suspicious look before turning to Hazel who was still sitting on the ground. The blonde immediately softened when she saw the tears on the girl's cheeks. She went to sit next to her and slipped an arm around Hazel who rested her head on her shoulder.

"It's okay. You know how PJ is. What she said ain't the truth." she said with a reassuring tone.

"Thank you. For being here." Hazel sniffed softly.

      "I always will be."
