SUNLIGHT HAD FINALLY SHOWN.
I had stayed awake for the past couple of hours, the pain I felt wasn't allowing me to fall asleep. Physically and mentally, I was going through it.

The dim light of the sun had began to shine through the pastel purple curtains, it gave some sort of comfort on the deep loneliness I had been feeling. I was still feeling embarrassed about yesterday's event, I broke the promise I made to myself. Which is truly awkward and annoying, but I guess there was no way of evading not crying.

Everything happened so fast but so slow at the same time, I was just hoping everyone will still be asleep. I knew it was pretty early still, so I had time to sneak out without having to say goodbye without them seeing how horrible I looked.

With the smallest energy I had, I slowly proceeded to get out of the small bed. I was currently in search for clothing I could wear to meet up with John B and Mrs. Peterkin.

I ended up picking an old sleeveless cardigan I found, accompanied with a black jean jacket and some long pair of jeans. I made sure I had everything set up so I could leave faster, but right when I began opening the door, I heard what sounded like Ward, calling for Sarah.

June: "Shit." -I mumbled, hitting my forehead with the wooden door in front of me.

I took a sigh before making my way out, there was already a couple of people that looked like workers and cleaners of Ward (I guess they came to clean all of the debris the hurricane had left).

I then looked over at the hallway noticing Ward, already staring at me. He was accompanied by a Woman, I've never seen before. She looked worried, I instantly wondered what could've happened that made her had such a noticeable expression.

Ward: "You're leaving already, sweetheart?" -the man asked, quickly approaching me to grab my suitcase.

He had noticed how I was struggling to hold the suitcase, it was very heavy due to all the clothes I brought with me.

June: "I need to go meet up with John B, I made an appointment with the, Sheriff." -I responded, getting a nod of agreement from Ward.

The man, seemed saddened by what I said even though he agreed. I couldn't help but feel bad after, him and he's family has been nothing but helpful to me.

June: "I'm really sorry about last night, also about today. You guys treated me like family, and I'm very thankful."

June: "But I truly need to go, I need to check up on him." -I explained.

Ward: "June, it's totally fine. I get what you're going through, I'm not angry at all."

Ward: "Just be careful out there, I don't want you to get into trouble." -he smiled, pulling me into a tight hug.

June: "Before I go, where's Sarah? I want to say goodbye to her." -I asked, quickly following, Ward.

He lead me onto the back part of their house, speaking to the Woman, from before. We walked to a beautiful pathway, filled with flowers and plants in each side. Ward and the Woman, seemed to be talking about how much damage the garden had received.

This due to the hurricane, which didn't took me by surprise. Last night, the sounds of different stuff breaking outside could be heard. That was part of the reason why I barely got any sleep, it was truly terrifying.

Ward: "Be careful with that. Rose, is gonna kill me." -the man yelled, catching one of the cleaners attention.

We were already by the pool, a couple of other workers were also there. I noticed Wheezie, who seemed frustrated as she held her phone.

Wheezie: "Dad, the Wi-Fi's not working, I can't post anything." -she mentioned, her expression starting to look more annoyed than frustrated.

Ward: "Wheezie, there was a hurricane, sweetheart."

As the man mentioned, our attention was caught by a constant no being shouted. We all looked over noticing Sarah, with a tenis racket.

Ward: "What is your sister doing?"

Wheezie: "Saving mice." -she responded, unbothered by her sister's doing.

We all walked over towards Sarah, as she kept jumping trying to make some birds fly off.

Ward: "I'm sorry, Sarah!"

Sarah: "I'm busy!" -the blonde one, shouted.

Her voice breaking in between sentence, guessing over how tired she must've been over her constant jumping. She was obviously out of breath but wasn't giving up in any moment.

Ward: "What are doing?! June, wants to say goodbye. She needs to get going already."

Sarah: "I'll be right there! It's just that the burrows filled with water from the surge."

We all kept looking at Sarah, confused. She was really, really determined to save the mice. Ward, seemed already too embarrassed over his own daughter at the moment.

Sarah: "The birds are having a field day!" -she exclaimed, quickly running deeper into the surge.

I was trying to hold in my laugh, even in my worst moments Sarah Cameron, always has the power of making me smile or laugh. Which is why I couldn't be more grateful for her, she's truly the sun to my moon.

Ward: "The birds have to eat too, Sarah. Now please come here!" -he replied, already seeming desperate for the girl to finish.

Sarah: "No, it's a mouse genocide out here. No!"

The girl's last word came out with a harsh shout, as she tried saving the mice but failed after one bird fell before she could hit it.

Ward: "The cycle of life is what it is, sweetheart. Now, come on."

Sarah: "I can't be a part of it. First, they came for the mice, Daddy." -the girl argued, finally beginning to approach us.

Her still looking around for the birds. As she arrived and looked in front of her, I couldn't help but chuckle after I noticed her red cheeks over the embarrassment.

Ward: "Yeah, well I have an actual human being that you might help."

Sarah: "Oh, my god." -the girl slowly approached, sounding out of breath still.

Unknown Woman: "Hi."

Sarah: "Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm so sorry." -she mentioned, exchanging hands with the, Woman.

Who still had the same worried face on her.
Sarah, then looked over and gave me a slight smile. She was still trying to focus on what Ward, was explaining to her.

Ward: "This is Lana, she's Scooter's wife."

For a couple of minutes they spoked about Scooter, I remember him since he used to be good friends with my Dad. I heard Ward, asking Sarah, if she knew where he could've went before the hurricane hit.

But they weren't lucky enough, the response they got from Sarah, wasn't very helpful since she only saw him while storm prepping.

Sarah: "He didn't say anything to me, I'm so sorry, is he okay? -the girl asked, starting to worry after seeing the woman's expression.

Ward: "He's absolutely okay." -the man reassured, grabbing Lana, by the shoulders to drag her away.

She was beginning to get desperate, she was obviously terrified over what could've happened to Scooter, I couldn't help but relate to her. We were both going through the same situation, nobody deserves to go through this.

June: "Maybe you can check out the docks from the hidden alleyway, my Dad and him used to hang over there to fish." -I mentioned, receiving a thank you from the, Woman.

They then continued walking, leaving me and Sarah, alone in front of the surge.

June: "So, did you had fun doing whatever you were doing?" -I asked, sarcastically smiling at, Sarah.

Sarah: "Ha. Ha, very funny. And no, those birds killed half of the mouses I had been trying to keep safe."

June: "Alright, so sorry about that. Those mouses deserve better, hopefully new ones arrive and make you happy."

The girl rolled her eyes, after hearing what I said with a smile on her face. But quickly got serious again after realizing something, she then stared at me with a saddened face. I already knew what she was about to mention, so I stopped her from doing so.

June: "It's okay, I still have hope alright. My Dad, it's a strong guy...he knows the sea very well." -I assured, making Sarah, nod.

She held my hand tightly, before pulling me into a hug. I knew she wasn't sure over what I said, I wasn't neither. But I need to keep a positive mind, for me and for John B.

Sarah: "Will you come over to visit again?" -she asked, holding both of my hands.

June: "I'll try to, maybe in a couple of days."

The girl smiled brightly, happy to hear what I said. She then placed her pinky finger up, making me laugh.

Sarah: "Pinky promise?"

June: "Mrs. Cameron, I promise." -I replied, making the blonde one laugh.

I eventually pled my goodbyes to the rest of the family, expect for Rafe, who I couldn't seem to find anywhere. I arrived at the front part of the house, preparing myself for the long walk. Well, at least it would help me clear my mind.

I proceeded to walk for a couple of minutes, surprisingly Outer Banks, is a quiet island. You barely hear any people around the streets, probably cause half of the population is always near the beaches or docks.

I began to grab my phone, taking a look at the gps I had set up. I've never went to the police station from the island, so I didn't knew where it was located at exactly. All I knew is that it was in the small town from the isle.

A couple of feet behind me, I heard what sounded like a honk. The motor of a bike, getting closer to me as well. I got startled by the loud sound, so I turned around as quick as possible to see who it was.

June: "Rafe? What are you doing? You scared the hell out of me." -I asked, stepping closer to the blonde guy.ย

He had stopped the bike behind me. I didn't remember the boy, being a fan of motorcycles so I was weirded out by the situation.

Rafe: "You forgot something at the house, I came to bring it back to you." -he mentioned, approaching me with his fist closed.

As he stepped closer to me, he opened his hand allowing me to see the necklace I've own since very little. It's one of my favorites since supposedly John B, made it for me when we were little kids. It was a string covered with seashells, he will find. Dad, gave it to me since John B, obviously couldn't due to Mom's rules.

June: "Oh my god! Thank you so much for bringing it back to me, I must've taken it out when I went to sleep." -I thanked the boy, giving him a side hug as he chuckled.

Rafe: "Of course! There's no need to thank, Sarah, was the one that found it and told me to give it to you."

Rafe: "She told me she took it out last night, so it wouldn't bother you in your sleep." -he stated, as he began to put the necklace on for me.

June: "Thank you so much, I'm sorry you needed to drive all the way over here though. I'll give you some money so you can pay for the gas if you want."

Rafe: "Oh no, it's completely fine June. I was actually going to head to town to a friend's house. If you want I can drop you at the place you need to go." -he said, making me nod a little bit embarrassed over the situation.

Eventually, I sat on top of the bike and continued to head over to the station with Rafe's help. Minutes passed and I had finally arrived, the station looked empty so I had more opportunities to meet with the, Sheriff.

Rafe: "Alright! See you around, Jujubee."

I smiled at the boy, making him do the same after I heard him saying my old nickname. It was something he used to call me when we were little, which I hated but ended up accepting over the years.

June: "Thanks for the ride, Cam-Cam. I'll see you soon, maybe." -I replied, making him laugh as he drove off.

Minutes had passed as I waited to get called by the Sheriff, I thought the progress will had been quick but unfortunately it wasn't. I'm not a patient person, so you could imagine how I was beginning to feel.

That's until I saw her coming out of her office, telling me to follow her outside. So, I did what she told me. We then entered her car, and I started getting confused over what was going on.

June: "Uuhh, goodmorning?"

Sheriff Peterkin: "Goodmorning, Mrs. Routledge." -she replied, beginning to drive the car through the small streets.

June: "Wait, so we aren't meeting up with John B, at the station?"

Sheriff Peterkin: "Your twin brother, didn't showed up for his appointment."

Sheriff Peterkin: "So we might need to go over to his house and check up on him over there." -the woman said, making me nod after her sentence.

She drove through many places I remember from little, blurry memories though. I was so young when I visited those places, I barely remember stuff from them. One I do remember always, is the small lake I visited all the time with, Dad. It was one of the best spots for fishing, he used to say.

After what felt like an eternity, we had finally arrived. Hell, the house didn't looked the same anymore. Or should I say "The Chรฃteau" which is what Dad, has always called it.

The Chรขteau is my comfort house, painted white because it was Mom's, favorite color. Unfortunately the house has a lot of chipped paint now, it also had a lot of debris throughout the grass.

I then headed out of the car as quick as I could, not letting Peterkin, park calmly over my emotions. They were obviously taking a toll on me, and it showed. I could've sworn you could see the nervousness on my face.

Sheriff Peterkin: "Jeez, lady! Couldn't wait for me to park?" -the woman exclaimed, approaching me with widened eyes.

June: "Sorry, I'm just really impatient."

We then knocked on the door, waiting for a response or for the door to just open. We waited for a while but no response, I could already see the disappointment forming on the black haired woman's face. Making me begin to worry too, I didn't wanted to be one more day without meeting, John B.

As I was about to leave, I heard the door opening. Making me turn around quickly, noticing the brunette boy, in front of me. He rubbed his eyes, seeming to be tired or sleepy.

June: "Hi." -I said, tears beginning to fill my eyes.

I knew it was him, he hasn't change at all. The only picture I have of all of us together, is the one that helps me remember little stuff about us. He's also wearing the bandana Dad, used to wear a lot.

John B: "Hi? Do I know you?" -he asked, making me look back at, Peterkin.

Sheriff Peterkin: "John B, this is your twin sister, June."

As she mentioned that, I could see the way his expression went from confused to very serious. He almost seemed angry, I was beginning to wondered what was wrong.

June: "Why so serious? -I asked, smiling at him lightly.

John B: "I don't want to speak to her."

That was the last thing I heard, before he eventually closed the door on our faces. Leaving me and Peterkin, outside with confused expressions.

I was hurt, but at the same time I suspected this would happen. Something told me, things wouldn't be always colorful.

End of chapter.

2757 words.
