ONE THING HAS been on Harry's mind ever since the end of last year; ( Y/N ). For his birthday, one of the things Hermione got him was a walkie talkie since she figured that might be a way to contact her in her void space. Harry would try calling her every night, but he had no such luck and he's been miserable.
A night bus took him to the Leaky Cauldron, which is where ( Y/N ) made her first steps into the Wizarding World. He met up with Ron and Hermione who told him all about their Summer holidays.
Ron went to Egypt with his family because of his dad winning the Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw. One of the pyramids that the family toured was full of skeletons of Muggles who had broken in and had "grown extra heads and stuff".
He also brought up that he wrote to his parents about ( Y/N ) before the last school year ended. His dad said that if they ever found her, they would bring her to the Burrow.
The trio got onto the train, and Ron's rat Scabbers barely made it with them thanks to his mum. Harry finished explaining what happened at the Dursley's which gave Ron a laugh, but Hermione didn't approve.
"I didn't mean to blow her up," Harry sighed. "I just... I lost control."
"Brilliant," Ron chuckled.
"Honestly, Ron, it's not funny. Harry was lucky not to be expelled," Hermione cut in.
"I think I was lucky not to be arrested, actually," The trio headed towards a compartment that had a man resting his head against the wall, covered by his cloak.
"I still think it's brilliant," Ron smiled.
"Come on," Hermione said. "Everywhere else is full."
She opened the door and sat down with Ron taking the seat next to her and Harry sitting next to the man sleeping. "Who do you think that is?"
"Professor R.J Lupin," Hermione answered.
Ron's mouth dropped agape. "You know everything. How is it she knows everything?"
"It's on his suitcase, Ronald," Hermione sighed and pointed to the suitcase above the professor's head.
"Oh."
"Do you think he's really asleep?" Harry questioned.
"Seems to be," Hermione replied. "Why?"
"I got to tell you something."
————————————
"LET ME get this straight," Ron spoke up after Harry finished telling them about Sirius Black. It was pouring rain outside, the sound of the chugging from the train grew. Ron and Hermione sat in front of Harry with worried looks on their faces. They both knew Sirius for his famous escape on Azkaban.
"Yeah," Harry nodded.
"But they'll catch Black, won't they?" Hermione wondered.
"I mean everyone's looking for him,"
"Sure," Ron shrugged. "Except no one's every broken out of Azkaban before, and... he's a murderous, raving lunatic."
"Thanks, Ron," Harry deadpanned.
Suddenly the wheels made a squeaking noise and the train came to a haunt. Harry sat up and opened the compartment door like many of the other Hogwarts students and the train jolted, causing him to fall.
"What's going on?" Ron gasped.
Harry watched the door close from beside him. "Don't know. Maybe we've broken down."
The lights turned off and Hermione could feel something tapping on her foot.
"Ouch, Ron, that was my foot," Hermione said.
Ron was busy sticking his face to the window, looking at a floating figure that was hiding in the storm. The lights flickered off once again.
"I think someone's coming aboard," Ron whispered.
The train jolted again and Hermione could feel her breathe to tinge from the frost. A cackling noise came from outside and the windows started freezing with ice that reached water from R.J Lupin's bottle. And once again, the train jolted making Ron yell in fear.
"Bloody hell!" Ron exclaimed. "What's happening?"
Wind whistled from outside the compartment and a figure with skeleton like hands, wearing a cloak moved the door open without touching it. The figure stared directly at Harry while Hermione and Ron shrunk in their seats. It was like all the happiness was being sucked out of him, and then Lupin came in with his wand.
————————————
AFTER HARRY WOKE up from the attack from the train, Lupin gave him some chocolate to help heal him up. Lupin explained to him that it was a Dementor from Azkaban. Harry told Hermione and Ron about the woman he heard screaming, but Hermione told him that no one was screaming.
Once the train stopped at the actual location they got to the carriages and listened to the Hogwarts choir for a bit before Professor Dumbledore stepped onto the podium for his beginning of the year speeches.
"Welcome, we,come to another year at Hogwarts," Dumbledore began. "Now, I'd like to say a few words before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast."
"First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J Lupin, who's kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Good luck, Professor,"
The students applauded Lupin as he stood from his seat besides Snape, he only clapped once and gave a small eye roll. Hermione smiled and leaned forward to Harry as she clapped.
"Of course, that's why he knew to give you the chocolate, Harry," Hermione smiled.
"Potter, Potter!" Malfoy leaned over to them.
Ron and Harry turned around and saw some Slytherin's smirking.
"Is it true you fainted?" Malfoy's inquired. "I mean, you actually fainted?"
"Shove off, Malfoy!" Ron exclaimed.
Harry sighed. "How did he find out?"
"Malfoy's just mad that he pissed himself last year," Ron whispered, remembering that day at practice with ( Y/N ).
"Just forget it," Hermione added.
The clapping died down once Professor Dumbledore began speaking again. Everyone snapped their heads in Dumbledore's direction and listened continued listening like before.
"Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our very own... Rubeus Hagrid,"
Hagrid's checks flushed red, a little embarrassed by all of the clapping. Mcgonagall gave him a nudge in the stomach with her arm and he stood up, causing somethings to fall from the table. Flitwick has to move aside so he wouldn't fall over from Hagrid's... height.
"Finally, on a more disquieting note, at the request of the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts will, until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban,"
And this is what got the room's attention. Murmurs filled the hall from some of the students while Harry couldn't help but notice Hagrid's eyes going wide a little.
"Until such a time as Sirius Black is captured," Dumbledore continued. "The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. Now, whistle I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities, a word of caution."
"Dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore, I must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a dementor to be forgiving," Dumbledore stated.
"But, you know, happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light," Dumbledore out his hand above a candle and a flame appeared.
————————————
NIGHT FELL ON the grounds of Hogwarts. The moon rose above the castle, and the dementors were taking their place on the grounds of Hogwarts.
Hagrid carried a large lantern to his hut, trying not to get in the way of any dementors. It was a stormy night so he used his wand as an umbrella. Fang was sitting outside under the roof for Hagrid, barking once he arrived. Hagrid knelt down to give him a tap and then did a secret knock on the door.
The door unlocked on its own and Hagrid entered the hut, placing his lantern down on the floor. Fang leaped onto the small sofa. There were two beds, one smaller than the other and a table where he spotted a half eaten Cauldron Cake.
"Hey, what'd we talk about?" Hagrid inquired.
"No single," A voice spoke up.
Hagrid wrinkled his noise. "What?"
"No single. It's 8-1-5," She stated. "You're late."
"Yer, I lost track of time," Hagrid explained. "I'll tell 'yer before hand if I'll be late, all right?"
The girl placed her walkie-talkie down on the floor and stood up from behind her bed. She frowned a little seeing the Cauldron Cake gone, but lightly smiled at Hagrid.
It was Twelve.
"Uh, and it's 8:15. It's not 8-1-5," Hagrid said.
Her hair was growing and curlier from last time. She didn't have the blonde wig like when she was hiding in the Hogwarts castle with Harry, Hermione and Ron. Twelve was wearing a gray sweater and a Camisole Jumpsuit over her shirt, different from her style last year.
( Y/N ) nodded. "Eight-fifteen."
"Now, what did we talk about?" Hagrid asked.
"Dinner first, then dessert," Hagrid said. "Always."
"That's a rule."
"Yeah?"
"Yes," ( Y/N ) nodded.
Hagrid handed her a bowl of pea soup, what she first had when she entered the Wizarding World. ( Y/N ) took a spoon from besides her and dug in, Hagrid joining in a bit later. Fang watched them from the couch, slowly falling asleep as they continued eating.
Guess who's back? Back again? Had to put ( Y/N ) with Hagrid, but I'm probably gonna end up making her live with the Weasley's.
- see you soon, meg !
