[THE LAST DAY]

you are your home.

Β  Β  "TONIGHT IS THE FULL moon," Elijah spoke as Juliette, Elena and Stefan stood in the living room in the Salvatore boarding house. Juliette sat on the couch with her arms crossed, not particularly happy that she had to be in the same room as Elena.

"We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse." Elijah continued, standing behind the couch, leaning against it.

Stefan was sitting next to a worried-looking Elena, his hand resting on top of hers. "Elena said that the Sun and the Moon curse is fake? That it's actually just a curse placed on Klaus." He said, his tone low and serious.

"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting," The vampire replied, in the same tone as the younger vampire. "But if he breaks it... He'll be a true hybrid." He added with a hint of hesitation.

Before anyone could say anything more, Damon strolled into the living room, obviously having heard the conversation from his room. "Then why are we letting him break the curse?" He asked, picking up the bottle of bourbon from the table. "We can kill him today. With Bonnie."

Juliette scoffed as she rolled her eyes at the Salvatore, feeling instantly annoyed by his presence.

"No. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying." Elena replied, sending a glare to the vampire.

Damon smirked before taking a sip of his bourbon. "I'll write her a great eulogy."

"It's not an option, Damon," Elena spoke sternly.

Stefan spoke, breaking the tension between his girlfriend and his brother. "Alright, how do we break this curse?" He turned his attention back to Elijah.

"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know."

"The moonstone," Juliette said.

Elijah nodded, "A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone." He spoke, pacing around the living room. "After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire, will sacrifice one of each."

Elena sighed, "And where do I fit into it?"

"The final part of the ritual," Elijah replied, walking over to one of the bookshelves and picking up a wooden box. "Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgΓ€nger... to the point of your death."

A heavy, tense silence followed. The realisation of what Elena had to do settled down on the group like a heavy fog. It was prominent.

Damon looked over at Elena as Stefan tightened his grip on Elena's hand while she worriedly looked at her boyfriend.

Elijah opened the box, pulling out a jar. "This is an elixir that I acquired some 500 years ago for Katherine. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation."

Juliette looked at the elixir intently. Elijah, noting her interest, handed it to her. Juliette accepted with a smile as she gently examined it.

"So, I'll be dead?" Elena asked.

"And then you won't," Elijah replied.

Damon scoffed, his expression incredulous. "That's your plan? A magical witch potion with no expiration date?"

"Well, Damon do you have a better idea?" Juliette countered, earning a scowl from the older Salvatore, who chose not to answer her.

He turned to Elena, "You want to come back to life, what about John's ring?" Damon questioned, annoyingly not wanting to listen to anyone. He always wants to be right.

Juliette sighed, sharing a glance with Elijah who matched her expression. "Those rings only work on humans. Elena's a doppelgΓ€nger which is supernatural. Odds are, the ring won't work on her and then she'll be really dead." Juliette replied, growing more and more frustrated with the fact that Damon couldn't accept anyone's ideas.

Yes, Elijah's plan was out there, it was risky but it was the only thing they had at the moment. Why not try it?

Damon scoffed, jaw clenched as he barely looked at Juliette. "I'll take those odds over his elixir." He spat bitterly, making Juliette grit her teeth, gently, she handed back the elixir to Elijah. "What if it doesn't work, Elena?"

"Then I guess I'll just be dead." Elena shrugged, her voice solemn.

The tension in the room dramatically increased with Elena's comment.

The Salvatore brothers share a look, feeling the finality of the situation heavily.

Damon, being dramatic, placed his glass on the table with a loud bang before storming out.

He's such a child.

Elena sighed, having watched the vampire leave, she turned back to Elijah. "Do we know if Klaus has everything he needs to do this? Does he have a werewolf?" She questioned, tilting her head to the side.

"Klaus has been waiting to break this curse for over a thousand years. If he doesn't already have a werewolf, my guess is by tonight, he will." Elijah replied, tucking her hands into his pockets.

Juliette was about to speak but a low ringing in her ears. It was a low hum, so quiet that someone could have easily missed it.

The blonde tried to stay focused on the conversation, but the faint hum in her ears gradually turned into a sharp, relentless ringing that drowned out everyone's voices.

Juliette closed her eyes tightly, her jaw clenched, her grip on the couch arm intensified. Her knuckles, having turned white, were shaking from the force.

Gradually, whispers joined in with the ringing. Too soft that she couldn't make out what the voices were saying, but from past experiences with voices, she knew they weren't saying anything good.

Elijah glanced over at Juliette, Stefan and Elena had left the room, probably to go talk some sense into Damon. He watched her grip on the armrest and her closed eyes, he immediately walked over, kneeling in front of her.

"Juliette? What's wrong?" He spoke softly, his hands placed on her knees, his thumb caressing the skin. "Juli? Talk to me."

Despite the confusion and pain clouding her mind, the blonde slowly opened her eyes, finding Elijah's warm, gentle gaze. It steadied her, anchoring in the midst of the chaos.

He scanned her expression before taking a hold of her hands, "Come on, let's go somewhere else." He said, his voice gentle and soft, grounding her more as the voices slowly stopped, the ringing returned to a soft hum.

The original vampire tenderly guided her through the Salvatore house, avoiding the brothers and Elena, knowing that Juliette wouldn't want to explain what was wrong, if they even asked.

They walked into the library, the atmosphere already calmer and cooler. He sat her down in the armchair, kneeling in front of her once again.

She breathed.

In

Out.

The blonde repeated the action for a few more moments, gripping Elijah's hands and he just let her. Knowing she needed to ground herself first, before explaining.

After a few minutes, she seemed to have calmed down so Elijah spoke. "Seraphina again?" He asked, though he already knew the answer.

Juliette nodded, having calmed down considerably. She sighed as she rubbed her eyes. "But it wasn't as bad as the other times, it was just a ringing in my ears that got louder and whispering." She explained, still reeling from what just happened.

Elijah nodded along, taking in the information as he gently caressed the back of her hand. "Well, it's been a while since you had the voices, maybe she's just reminding you that she's still here." He reasoned.

Juliette scoffed, "Oh yay. Fun." She replied sarcastically. Feeling so overjoyed (not) that Seraphina isn't going to back down.

Elijah smiled softly, a small chuckle passing his lips. He was going to reply but got cut off by Elena walking into the library.

"You okay?" Elena asked as she stood in front of the armchair, concern evident on her face but that only made Juliette scoff in disdain.

"Yeah fine. Like you care."

Elena rolled her eyes at the blonde's reply, definitely feeling a pang of annoyance. Before turning back to Elijah, who was now standing up and looking down at the wooden box that contained the elixir.

"You'd think Damon would understand why I'm willing to do this." She spoke, picking up the elixir, holding it upright as she inspected the bottle.

"Why are you?" Elijah questioned, turning to face the brunette as she placed the elixir bottle down with a sigh, glancing at Elijah.

She shrugged slightly, "I'm the key to breaking the curse." She replied, "Klaus is here because of me. If I don't stop him, then he's going to hurt people, it's that simple."

Elijah stayed quiet for a second, sharing a look with Juliette who just rolled her eyes. "You know, there's a possibility this elixir won't work. I don't want to mislead you."

Elena nodded as she sighed, "I know the chance I'm taking."

Juliette watched her little sister, feeling annoyed and slightly proud. Despite how angry she was at her sister, she didn't know if she would ever be ready to forgive her but she was proud of her.

Proud because of how selfless she was, in this moment only, she was okay with dying, she was okay with the elixir failing, all for her family. She was okay with dying to make sure her family or friends didn't get hurt.

However, that still doesn't mean that Juliette will forgive her for what she did. Because she doesn't know if she can ever trust Elena ever again.

Juliette was still hurt by what she did.

Β  Β  ALARIC WHO IS NOW actually Alaric was now back, Klaus sent him back with a message. The sacrifice was going to happen tonight. Tensions had risen with that revelation, because that means that Klaus is ready. He has all the things he needs, a witch, a wolf and a vampire, he's prepared.

Juliette walked over to Jenna, having not seen her since Elena told her everything about the supernatural. The blonde just wanted to see if she was okay with it all. "Hey, Jenna-" But before she could even get her sentence out, Jenna walked past her, her shoulder brushing against Juliette's.

The blonde stopped, her brow furrowed in confusion as she watched her aunt walk away into the living room. Juliette was confused and shocked as she just stood there, her mind reeling over what had just happened.

She glanced over at Elena who was already looking at her, she looked guilty. That was the first thing Juliette noticed, she had that look. The guilty look. The "I'm sorry but I had to" look.

Elena must have gone to Jenna and told her about Juliette. Telling her how she's a 'liar' and she has been hiding things behind everyone's backs.

The blonde clenched her jaw in frustration as Elena just walked away as well, following their aunt into the living room. Juliette couldn't believe it. She was furious.

How dare Elena go to Jenna to tell her everything? Everything that Juliette had wanted to tell her. Because she thought that Jenna would believe her, who would support her.

But no.

Elena got there first to snitch.

The blonde took a moment to calm down, breathing heavily to ground herself. She needed to, or else she would immediately beat Elena as soon as she walked into the living room.

After a few minutes, she had calmed down, just a little bit, and spun on her heel, walking into the living room. She spotted Elijah, whose eyes immediately landed on her when she walked in.

He noticed her clenched jaw as she stood next to him, crossing her arms over her chest whilst she was glaring at Elena who was avoiding her gaze. From that, the original immediately knew that Elena had done something else to annoy the blonde more, further distancing the sisters.

Elijah placed his hand on her back, his thumb comfortingly caressing her skin through her shirt. Juliette glanced over, sending him a small, grateful, smile which Elijah returned before turning back to the conversation.

"So you don't remember anything that happened?" Stefan questioned as he, Elena and Jenna surrounded Alaric who was sitting on the couch, looking dazed and confused.

He shook his head, taking a sip of bourbon. "No it's like I blacked out and woke up three days later." He spoke, his voice laced with confusion and a hint of hesitation. "Katherine was there."

Stefan sighed, "She's under compulsion. Damon snuck her some vervain, but she can't leave until Klaus tells her she can."

Alaric then turned to Juliette, who was too busy glaring at Elena to notice. "And he said something about you, Juliette." The history teacher mumbled, making the blonde snap her gaze to him, her brow furrowed in curiosity.

She shared a look with Elijah who looked equally curious before speaking. "What did he say?"

"He said you're needed for the ritual too. He said something about... your magic was the thing he wants...?" Alaric replied.

Elena narrowed her eyes at the teacher before looking back at Juliette, slightly surprised.

The blonde raised a brow as she looked at Elijah. "My magic? What could my magic be used for?" She questioned, feeling even more confused than before.

"Wait." Jenna spoke up, "Elena said you were lying about that,"

"No, I said she was lying about being haunted by a witch, not that she didn't have magic," Elena replied, lowering her gaze. "Well, that was before I found this..." Everyone watched as the brunette pulled something out of her bag.

Juliette's eyes widened as she spotted Seraphina's grimoire in her hands. "How do you know about that?" She stepped closer, anger slowly filling her.

Elena looked away from her sister's filled eyes for a moment, and everyone in the room watched the interaction. "I found it in your room."

"So you were snooping?"

"No-"

"Yes, you were, give it to me." Juliette held her hands out, her jaw clenched, teeth gritting against each other as Elena handed over the grimoire with a lowered head. The blonde snatched it back and turned away from her sister, putting the book away.

"I just don't understand why you're hiding things from us," Elena said.

Juliette scoffed, "Because of how you reacted when I did tell you, apparently, I was lying. That's why I didn't tell you, Elena." She replied, trying to keep her anger in check in front of everyone.

"You could be helping us-"

"No, because I don't even understand what's going on with me." The blonde cut her off. "So I can't help."

Elena shook her head, "Yes you can. You're a witch. You can help us defeat Klaus."

"Did you just listen to anything I just said, I don't know how to use magic and also, why would I want to help you when you locked me in a cellarβ€”"

"What? Elena? Locked you in a cellar?" Alaric questioned confusedly, looking between Juliette and Elena.

"Elena, really?" Jenna added, looking at the sister.

"Yeah, she did because she's a bit-"

Elijah cut her off, knowing that if Juliette got angrier, then this wouldn't end well. "Okay, let's get back to Klaus. Discuss you're teenage drama later." He reasoned calmly, "Did Klaus say anything else about Juliette?"

Alaric shook his head, "Not really, he just said she's important. He didn't explain why, he just told me I could go." He replied, sending the blonde an apologetic smile. "Sorry Juliette, that's all I got."

The blonde gave him a small smile, appreciating that he even bothered to include Juliette in all his ritual drama. Even though she still had no clue why she needed.

✧✧✧✧

JULIETTE WAS IN THE Salvatore's kitchen, trying to look for something to eat when she heard a thump upstairs and then yelling. She stood still for a moment before heading into the living room, spotting Elijah and Damon.

"Well, it sounds like you won't be needing this anymore," Elijah spoke calmly, placing the elixir back into the wooden box. "Feeding her vampire blood rendered it useless."

"What? You fed Elena vampire blood?" Juliette turned to Damon, who just ignored her, his jaw clenched.

"Tell Elena I'll be back before nightfall. We'll proceed as planned."

Damon scoffed, "We both know that elixir wouldn't have worked anyway." He spat bitterly.

Elijah's jaw clenched, "The problem, Damon, is you talk a good game but you don't actually know anything. She'll never forgive you. And never for a vampire is... a long time." Was all that the Original said before he left?

Juliette stayed quiet for a moment before she grabbed her bag, tucking Seraphina's grimoire inside. She headed to the door but Damon's voice stopped her.

"Yeah run off with your boyfriend."

The blonde scoffed, turning to face the vampire fully, raising her brow. "He's not my boyfriend. And even if he was, you'd be the last to know."

"You know, Juliette.'' Damon started, "You were the last person I would've expected who would betray us. But here we are. Sleeping with the enemy." He spat.

Juliette clenched her jaw. 'I'm not sleeping with him, Damon. Like it's any of your business." She stepped closer to the Salvatore. ''And, I haven't betrayed anyone. I'm just not going to stand by and act like Elena is some saint who needs to be put on a pedestal. I'm only here because I'm needed for the ritual too, then I'm leaving Mystic Falls.''

Damon rolled his eyes but didn't say anything else. So Juliette spun on her heel and left the boarding house, slamming the door behind her.

The blonde spotted Elijah who was leaning against one of the pillars, he had waited for her. His expression softened as Juliette walked over, standing up straight.

"Damon's a dick,'' Juliette spoke, her voice laced with annoyance.

Elijah chuckled, "That is definitely one way to put it." The two started to walk towards the woods. "He truly is so arrogant. I don't know how Elena or anyone can stand him."

"Elena is in love with him, that's why she can stand him. She's stringing on both of the Salvatore's and they will always aimlessly follow her like dogs." The blonde replied, knowing it was true.

Elijah whistled lowly as he gently laced his hand with hers. "I guess so. But being a vampire isn't something she wants, will she forgive him this time?"

Juliette gave him a pointed look, "She forgave him when he snapped Jeremy's neck when she rejected him, not knowing he had John's ring on. So she will forgive him, eventually." She replied as they both walked through the woods.

Elijah looked slightly shocked but schooled his expression. "Hm, I can't say much, I forgave Klaus for things much worse." He looked regretful and sombre.

Juliette gripped his hand tighter, coming to a stop and facing him. "Well, he is your brother. Sometimes, you can't help but forgive your family for whatever they did. No matter how little or significant it was. I think it's rather annoying."

The original hummed thoughtfully as he gazed down at her. "It is, isn't it?"

"But I guess you're done with Klaus now?"

Elijah nodded. "And I guess you're done with Elena?"

"I guess so. But... you never know."

"You never know," Elijah repeated.

✧✧✧✧

JULIETTE WAS BACK IN Elijah's apartment, both waiting for the ritual that Klaus had planned to happen tonight. The original knew that Juliette was nervous and scared, even though she wasn't going to ever admit that she was.

But Elijah knew without even having to ask. He watched as her hands trembled slightly, or how her smile didn't fully reach her eyes. He wasn't going to comment on it. Definitely not... or else she would probably beat him up.

Elijah knew his limits with Juliette.

Even though he knew she wouldn't actually beat him up, considering he was an original vampire, but he didn't want to find out.

Instead, they talked about everything, mostly to do with Juliette. She told him about the amulet and spell she found at Jonas' house, both being equally confused on what it meant but Elijah vowed to help her with it.

When Elijah had fallen asleep, Juliette gently removed herself from his grip and headed for the door. She needed a minute to herself, and going on walks was the best thing for that.

The blonde walked the streets, not really paying attention to her surroundings. Until, her phone buzzed with a notification, disrupting her thoughts. Reluctantly, Juliette checked her phone.

ELENA: Klaus took Caroline and Tyler. He's going to use them for the ritual.

Juliette's eyes widened in concern, but before she could reply, she felt a hand cover her mouth and everything went dark.
