EP 01. (BLUE HAVEN)
CHAPTER ONE...
โโโ home again.
SYNOPSIS
"After leaving her new life behind, Lillian Beck finds herself back in her hometown, Blue Haven. Where the townspeople deal with the disappearance of young- lovers, Edin Stuart & Campbell Browning."
PART ONE - LILLIAN
โ ONLY YOU - YAZOO.
LILLIAN TOSSED THE REMAINDER OF HER CLOTHES in one last box before closing it up, taping the top and the sides shut. Lillian took one last look at the closed box and sighed. Turning around, Lillian looked at her empty room she was about to leave behind. During the summer, Lillian's parents received news that Lillian's grandmother, Juniper, had passed away due to a fall down her stairs. Lillian and Juniper were very close when Lillian and her family lived in their old town so it saddened Lillian when she heard the news.
But what surprised Lillian the most was when her mother told her that their family would be back to their hometown because they had inherited her grandmother's old Victorian house. Never in a million years did Lillian ever think she'd be packing up her new life in California and find herself back in the small town she left behind two years ago. A town that Lilian Beck was all too familiar with.
It was a promise she made to herself those two years ago that she'd never be back.
But she was wrong.
Lillian was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn't realize her father's voice alerting her. "Lili, finish up with your stuff and bring it downstairs!" Lillian's father, James, called up to his daughter. "Alright dad!" Lillian called back down, picking up her last box of clothes and walking out of her old bedroom. Slowly, Lillian made her way down the stairs, looking down at the steps as she went. Lillian's father was already packing the rest of the boxes into the u-haul when Lillian made her way out the door.
"Got the rest of your clothes?" Lillian's mother, Nancy, asked, leaning on the window of the family station wagon. "Yeah, that's the last of it." Lillian sighed, heaving the heavy box into the u-haul. "Lord only knows why she needs so many clothes." Lillian's sister, Catherine, scoffed, placing her sunglasses on top of her head. Catherine was Lillian's older sister by a year, she had blonde hair, brown eyes, and had an average feminine build.
"Whatever." Lillian muttered, rolling her eyes. Lillian placed the box inside the u-haul and watched as her father pulled the door down, securing all the family's belongings. Pulling out of the driveway, Lillian slowly watched as her new life suddenly became her old life.

โ GIMME SOME LOVIN' - THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP.
The cool breeze blew into the window that Lilian sat next to on the left side of the car, behind her father who was driving and watched as the world zoomed by in front of her while Catherine sat on the opposite side of her sister and drummed her fingers along the side of the door, in tune with the music playing from the radio. Lillian was a mix of emotions, she was sad to be leaving her new life for her old one but she was excited to go back. It meant she got to see her friends, Marigold and Charlie again, it meant that she would be able to drink a strawberry milkshake again. As Lillian reminisced about the good memories of her old life, she couldn't help thinking about the tainted memories that came with her good ones. "Girls, are you excited to go back home?" James asked, looking back in the rear-view mirror at his daughters.
Catherine muttered a 'yeah' while Lillian pondered on the question for a moment. The word 'home' was a funny one, especially to Lillian. For the past two years, Lillian always thought that California was her home, but then she'd sometimes think of her old life and began to question if California was truely where she belonged.
"Lili?" Nancy called, but Lillian was too deep into her own thoughts to hear her mother. It wasn't until she felt Catherine's hand hit her arm that Lillian finally snapped out of it. "Huh? Oh yeah, yeah." Lillian simply replied, looking back out the window, drifting into her little world of thoughts once again.
After hours and hours of countless driving, pit stops at gas stations for bathroom and snack breaks, and nights spent in cheap motels, Lillian finally saw the sign that filled her with both happiness and dread.
NOW ENTERING BLUE HAVEN, WE WELCOME YOU.
PART TWO - MARIGOLD
โ MICKEY - TONI BASIL.
SITTING ON THE GYMNASIUM FLOOR, Marigold Summers stretched out her legs, after finishing practice for her team's big cheerleading competition coming up that following weekend. Even though there was one last day before school started up again, Marigold's team had access to the gym at school for practice. She watched three of her teammates throw their flyer in the air, as her gaze turned to Amelia Brighton, their captain, who sat on the bleachers, sucking on a lollipop and judging her team with her eyes. Marigold had shoulder-length brown curly hair, green eyes, and caucasion skin. She had a slim figure and was an inch taller than Lillian who was 5' 0' '. Marigold was a hippie character, who was also optimistic despite the circumstance.
Marigold rolled her eyes as she watched Amelia blew her whistle at her teammates and repeating the word 'again' several times. Amelia wore a white t-shirt and red shorts and red high top sneakers. Amelia was Marigold and Lillian's childhood tormenter. After Lillian moved away, Amelia continued to be the rich mean girl that everyone either envied or hated in school.
"Alright losers! Pack up your trash and hit the showers, you all stink." Amelia ordered. Marigold scoffed at that comment, As if you don't smell Amelia, Marigold thought. Sighing heavily, Marigold got up from the floor and adjusted the purple scrunchie in her hair as she made her way to the lockers. After a long and refreshing shower, Marigold dried off and changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top. Slipping the tank top over her head, a strange noise was heard from inside the locker room. Turning her head, Marigold followed the noise.
"Hello?" Marigold called out to an empty locker room. The hairs on her neck stood up as she called out once more, "Anyone there?" Margold tried her best to ignore the sound as she made her way back to where her stuff was.
Marigold was too busy placing her clothes in her duffel bag that she didn't realize that the strange noise had gotten closer, until suddenly a pair of arms grabbed at her waist. Letting out a loud gasp, Marigold spins around to be faced with her boyfriend of two years, Charlie Swanson. Charlie had neck-length light brown wavy hair, blue eyes, and caucasion skin. He was 6' 0" and had an athletic and strong build. Charlie had a passion for writing and journalism, just like Lillian. Charlie was considered an awkward person so the only friends he made were Lillian, Marigold, and Harvey Carraway.
"Charlie!" Marigold said in relief that it was her boyfriend and not some creep in the girls locker room. "What the hell are you doing here? You know you're not supposed to be in the girls locker room." Marigold said, playfully hitting Charlie's shoulder.
"I missed you." Charlie said straightforwardly. "I was only gone an hour Charles." Marigold said, turning back to her duffel bag.
"So did you hear?" Charlie asked, looking over Marigold's shoulder. "Hear about what?" Marigold asked. "Headmaster Blake is holding an assembly on the first day back regarding the missing kids." Charlie said, whispering "the missing kids" in Marigold's ear, making her shiver. "Of course," Marigold scoffed. "This is just another publicity stunt so people will vote for him in the election for mayor." Marigold stated. Ever since their previous mayor, Mayor Dwight, had retired, people were in a frenzy about who the next mayor would be.
Charlie took a seat on the bench next to Marigold's back as he watched Marigold put her necklace on. "As if having a son who constantly parties isn't enough." Charlie sighed, brushing a few strands away from his face.
โ WEIRDO BOY - doubts and accusations - BLAKE NEELY.
"I'm surprised Elias hasn't screwed up poor daddy's election so far." Marigold mimicked, making Charlie laugh a little. Suddenly the door to the girls locker room opened and there stood Amelia and the rest of her squad holding their duffel bags, several girls squealed or gasped in shock at the sight of Charlie in the girls locker room. "What the hell is weirdo boy doing in the girls locker room!" Amelia said, raising her voice.
"He was just leaving Amelia." Marigold said. Charlie got up from the bench and gave Marigold a quick kiss on the lips as he exited the door.
"Oh and don't forget, We're meeting Lillian at the Midnight Diner tonight so don't be late."
"I'm never late." Charlie said and winked.
PART THREE - LILLIAN
โ UNSUNG SONGS - AGES AND AGES.
AS SOON AS LILLIAN AND HER FAMILY PASSED THE TOWN'S SIGN, Lillian felt as if the town had changed, it was an odd vibe that Lillian got. Like a certain mist fallen over the small town. As the Beck family drove through, Lillian spotted all the places she had been, the cinema, the library, the record store, the diner. Lillian smiled to herself as she remembered those places.
It felt as though it took forever until Lillian saw the long driveway that went up to her grandmother's house. Lillian had visited her grandmother many times before her passing but something felt different this time, maybe it was because Lillian knew her grandmother won't be there this time? But whatever it was, Lillian was nervous.
"There it is, girls." James spoke as they pulled up in front of the house. The old Victorian home was named Hopefield Manor and it was a big house, almost like a mansion that was fully furnished inside. It looked as if no one had been living in it for years. There were thousands of windows plastered everywhere around the house, it had this ancestral yet vintage look.
"Home sweet home." Catherine sighed, unbuckling her seat belt. Lillian stepped out of the car and took in her surroundings. James slid open the door to the u-haul while Lillian and Catherine grabbed their suitcases from the truck. Walking up the large step and entering the old house, a large stairwell stood before the two sisters.
"Well," James began to say, carrying a large box marked kitchen on it, "What do you think?" He smiled.
"It has that old people smell." Catherine grimaced.
"Well remember Cat, We have to remodel everything so that 'old people smell' won't last long." Nancy said, carrying another box marked pantry on it.
"I'm gonna head upstairs and unpack." Lillian said and made her way upstairs. As Lillian walked down the seemingly long hallway, she looked around, trying to find her room. Since Lillian was upstairs first, she got first pick on rooms. Settling on a fairly medium sized room, Lillian set her suitcase down on the bench in front of her new bed. The walls were painted a tan-white looking color and the door frame to the ensuite bathroom and bedroom door were white.
โ CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF MYSELF - SANTIGOLD FT. BC UNIDOS.
Lillian folded her clothes and placed them neatly in her drawer. Lillian walked back over to her suitcase and pulled out a picture frame of her and her friends, her, Marigold, Charlie and Harvey when they were younger, at their favorite place to go swimming during the last week of summer, that was the last photo ever taken of all three of them, before Lillian moved away.
Suddenly, a strange noise was heard from the hallway. Turning her head, Lillian followed the noise. Her palms began to sweat and she started to feel nauseous. The noise sounded like footsteps, above her. Lillian opened her door and stepped out into the hallway, looking both ways in curiosity. It felt as though it had gotten louder and closer in Lillian's ears as Lillian turned around, only to be face to face with her father, who was standing a few feet away from her holding a box that had the word bathroom written on the front.
Letting out a loud gasp, Lillian clutched her chest with her left hand while her right hand held onto the picture frame. "Lili? Everything alright?" Her father asked.
"Yeah," Lillian said, taking a deep breath. "I thought I heard a noise in the hallway."
"It's an old house Lillian, old houses make strange noises." James simply replied before entering the bathroom.
Lillian tried to believe her father but something told her it wasn't just a random noise in an old house.
Maybe it was something else? She thought.

โ OUT OF MY LEAGUE - FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS.
The music on the jukebox played in the background in The Midnight Diner as Lillian stepped inside the familiar diner, every color bursts out in soft pinks, bright yellows, and even deep blues. Lillian looked around at each booth trying to find her friends. Families sat with families, friends sat with friends, and couples sat with couples, none of which were Marigold or Charlie. Finally, Lillian spotted the two people she had been waiting to see face to face for two years. Ever since Lillian moved to California, Marigold and Lillian kept in contact with each other through writing letters, phone calls, or visits mainly from Marigold, Lillian never visited Marigold in Blue Haven, it was too painful for her.
Walking up to Marigold and Charlie's booth, Lillian noticed that her friends were too deep into their conversation to even notice Lillian standing.
"Is this seat taken?" Lillian asked, happiness in her voice. Both Marigold and Charlie looked up at the voice and their faces went from serious to excitement.
"Oh my gosh! Lilli!" They both said and got up from their booth and hugged Lillian.
"Love the new haircut!" Marigold exclaimed, touching a few strands of Lillian's hair. Lillian had longer hair before she moved away but cut it a few months prior to the move.
The three friends sat in the booth with their usual milkshakes, Strawberry for Lillian, Chocolate for Charlie, and Vanilla for Marigold, and filled each other in on what has been going on over the last two years.
Lillian looked around the diner, glancing between different old pictures taken of the owner, Billy, from when Billy was younger, and of the town. Several records were hung up on the walls as decorations. On the wall closest to the door, hung different flyers, but one specific one caught Lillian's eye more, it was a flyer with the words, Have You Seen Us? with a picture of both Edin and Campbell on the bottom.
Lillian didn't know Edin or Campbell well, all she knew was that Edin was in her French class a few years ago and that she had gone to summer camp with Campbell when she was ten but they hardly spoke to each other. "Lillian? Lillian, did you hear us?" Marigold's voice spoke suddenly. It was until Lillian turned her attention back to her friends that she had completely forgotten what they were talking about. "I'm sorry, what?" Lillian finally asked.
"I was asking you if you had heard the news?" Charlie asked, leaning his forearms on the table.
"About the missing kids, Edin and Cambell?" Marigold added on.
"They went missing around the middle of August apparently after stopping here for a midnight milkshake." Charlie explained. Before the incident, Charlie had become obsessed with looking for the "big scoop" for the school's newspaper called The Violet Hour, finally after what happened with the missing lovers, Charlie thought that this was his chance, his chance to finally land a position at the town's newspaper, Blue Haven News.
"The police still haven't found them, rumors have been going around town that they were abducted or something silly." Charlie said, playing with his straw. Marigold and Charlie had continued sharing theories on the topic as Lillian continued to drink from her strawberry milkshake.
Just then, the bell rang, signaling that someone had entered the diner. Lillian turned around in her seat, Marigold and Charlie still too focused on the missing kids investigation- as they were now calling it- to notice anything, when a young man no older than Charlie's age walked in, wearing a black coat, a grey sweatshirt that hugged his toned chest and biceps tightly, dark blue jeans and converse sneakers.
Walking up the counter, the young man took out his wallet and handed Billy 25 dollars. He had a nice voice and Lillian could almost swear that she had known that voice from before. Lillian tried to get a good look at the young man as he waited for his dinner to be handed to him. All she could make out was that he had an athletic and strong build, dark brown, almost black, tousled hair that reached his neck and it was perfectly unruly in the front. He had dark chocolate brown eyes, they crinkled at the corners every time he talked or smiled.
"Thanks, Billy." The boy spoke as he took the brown paper bag from the old man and started exiting the diner. Then it hit Lillian, the voice, the mannerisms, the boy's profile, it all made sense. It was her old lover,
Harvey Caraway.
PART FOUR - GRACE
โ GIRL - THE INTERNET FT. KAYTRANADA.
MUSIC PLAYED IN GRACE'S EARS THROUGH HER WALKMAN as she walked around her room, sorting out her clothes. Today was the first day of sophomore year for some of the students at Crestview Prep and Grace was beyond excited. Not only was Grace going to be able to spend most of her lunch hours in the music room, practicing her music, but she was finally going to see her best friend, Faye Baker. Grace Millner lived with her single mother, Elise, and her older brother Gary, who was away at university.
A knock on Grace's bedroom door was heard startling her as she turned around to see her mother standing in the doorway. Elise was a kind High School English teacher at Crestview and all of her students liked her. She had blonde hair and blue eyes - Grace got her looks from her father Anthony, who had passed away a few years ago.
"I'm almost ready for school, Mom." Grace said, answering the question her mother had yet to ask. "Okay, well just make sure you're ready by 8:30." Elise called, leaving her daughter to finish getting ready.
โ HEAD OVER HEELS - TEARS FOR FEARS.
Grace was an aspiring singer who had hopes of going to Julliard after high school, she was 5' 9" and had brown hair that reached her shoulders and had bangs and an hourglass figure. Her bright blue eyes were filled with joy and excitement as she entered the hallways of Crestview Prep.
Crestview Prep was a fairly big, old looking high school. It had the resemblance of a boarding school, the walls were painted a brown and tan color, windows were plastered everywhere around the school, the floors were a polished brown, ready for the new school year. The quad was every student's hangout spot, except for the student lounge, of course. The grass was as green as ever and the blossom trees were blooming, students arrived and began greeting their friends.
Grace reached her new locker in no time, opening it graciously, immediately placing her books and other belongings for school inside. Suddenly, Grace felt a light and quick tap on her shoulder. Her bright blue eyes were filled with joy and excitement as she called out to her best friend, "Faye!" She said, pulling Faye into a hug. Faye had black hair that reached the middle of her back and bright green eyes. The two girls chatted about how their summers were until the bell for first period rang and they went to first class which was math.
PART FIVE - AMELIA
โ YOU GOT ME LIKE - SHAED FT. snny.
AMELIA SAT IN THE FRONT SEAT OF HER PINK CONVERTIBLE with the roof covering both her and Elias Blake as they made out. Amelia had medium- length red wavy hair, blue eyes, and caucasion skin, she also had a slim and femine build. Everything about her, people envied. Whether it was her hair, her money, or her body, people were obsessed. She was the queen bee of Crestview Prep, you either loved Amelia Brighton, or you didn't. Amelia and Elias had started a fling sometime before the end of the previous school, after Edin and Campbell started going out. Some people thought it was suspicious, others thought they were meant for each other.
Elias' hands went from Amelia's hair to the buttons on her shirt in a matter of seconds. "Eli," Amelia tried to say in between kissing Elias. "We need to get to class." She spoke, looking at Elias. Elias had dark brown hair that was styled and quaffed to perfection, handsome blue eyes and a smile that all the Crestview girls went crazy for.
"Who cares about class." Elias stated and continued kissing Amelia. Elias never really cared for school much like most students did, he had his father's money taking care of him. That's all Elias really cared about, his father's money and being the life of the party.
"I care." Amelia pulled away, "I have a 4.0 gpa to protect."
Elias groaned and moved away from Amelia, resting in the passenger seat. "Ames." Elias paused. "People like us don't have to worry about school and college. We have our parents' money to get us through. We have it better than everyone else, there is no middle or lower class, there's just lower class." Amelia thought of what Elias said, part of her believed it but she knew deep down that half of it was bullshit.
PART SIX - HARVEY
โ CHOP AND CHANGE - THE BLACK KEYS.
TINKERING AWAY UNDER THE BED OF AN OLD BMW, HARVEY CARAWAY wiped the sweat off his forehead. Listening to the music playing on the radio, Harvey hummed quietly to himself. Harvey had been working at his father's car garage named Caraway's Motors for over a year. "Son!" Harvey heard his father, Jack, call to him as he entered the room. Jack was an older man, between his mid forties and fifties with a few strands of grey hair mixed in with his dark brown hair. He was a bit taller than his son and had a warm heart.
Harvey slid out from underneath the car on the mechanics creeper, looking up at his father. "What are you still doing here? You're supposed to be getting ready for school." Jack said, looking at the time on his watch puzzled.
"I promised Ms. Gold, I'd have her car fixed so she can take it to bingo tonight." Harvey explained, wiping his grimy hands on the old tattered tower on top of the hood of the car.
"You can finish that later, right now, you need an education, so school now. Go." Jack said, placing a hand on Harvey's head full of brown curls and smiled. Harvey never liked going to school after his mom passed away, it felt like everyone had heard what happened and pitied him. "Fine." Harvey gave in, and began walking out the door.
"Oh and son,"Jack called out, "Me and your mother are having dinner tonight at the midnight diner, perhaps you should join us."
"She's not my mother." Harvey argued. After Harvey's mother, Yvette, died from cancer, Jack remarried a woman named Lorraine, who Harvey strongly disliked. He hated when Jack referred to her as 'his mother' and not 'stepmother'.
"Besides the point, I think it would be good for you both to get to know each other more." Jack tried to reason with his son. 'One year's not enough?' Harvey thought to himself. Sighing, Harvey knew there was no way for him to get out of this one, so he simply agreed and went to get ready for the new school year.
โ NO WAY DOWN - THE SHINS.
.โข*โข.
Harvey walked to school alone, listening to music with his headphones. It was a normal thing for him, it meant that he could be alone with his thoughts without other people around. Walking alongside the football field next to the school, Harvey kept his head down. Part of him often wondered if people had noticed him but then again, he didn't care otherwise.
Walking inside the school, Harvey took in his surroundings, the school banter with the words, "WELCOME BACK, CRESTVIEW KIDS!", written in big lettering. Avoiding people, Harvey made his way to his locker, swiftly getting through his combination and opening his locker. Harvey took out his first period books and began his long walk to Science, his favorite subject.
"Hey man!" A male voice called out to Harvey, making him turn around. There stood Charlie, the sides of his long brown hair slicked back a little, a camera hanging around his neck with a rainbow colored strap attached to it. The two boys greeted each other and talked about how their summers had been. Harvey talked about the old beat up truck that his father was going to give him when he turned 18, and Charlie talked about how he had spent his summer with his mother and deaf father at their lake house, not once did Charlie mention that Lillian was back home. He was keeping that a secret, on Lillian's behalf.
Harvey and Charlie both began walking to Science class. Harvey zoomed out in thought as he listened to Charlie go on about various things, such as the school's newspaper as Charlie often did. He didn't realize that he was about to become face to face with someone from his past. Looking up, Harvey spotted her, it was his girl, Lillian. She stood next to Marigold as they exited the school office.
Her hair rested on her shoulders, wearing a black overall skirt - with flowers printed on it, and a white ruffled top underneath it. She wore grey ankle boots and her nails were painted pink. She was beautiful, always had been, despite the circumstances. Harvey watched as Marigold left Lillian alone in the hallway by herself and smiled to himself internally as she made her way to him.
Harvey felt like he was gonna be sick, it was his girl and he felt like he was given a second chance.
A second chance with her.
