(Mature Content, Descriptions of torture, Very long chapter)
Summer vacation had begun but if anyone believed that meant relaxation, they would be incorrect. Mia had spent the first few days drinking heavily with Damon, doing anything to distract herself from missing Stefan. Their last conversation played repeatedly in her head, she'd confessed her love for him but not in a direct way, well as directly as it could've been.
He said I love you too.
Mia would be lying if she said she hadn't spent long nights trying to decipher the tone in which he spoke those words, wondering about the meaning behind them. Until she gave up, he was with Elena, in love with Elena. The main reason he was out of town was so Klaus wouldn't find out his girlfriend was alive. The possibility of her being with Stefan was very slim.
Perhaps if they had met first.
The method of getting intoxicated was, as expected, ineffective so Mia turned to help others with their issues. From spending hours listening to Elena's theories on where the younger Salvatore was, to setting up counselling meetings for Alaric, all of which he refused to attend.
Safe to say Mia Pierce was exhausted, a fragment of her wished she accepted Elijah's offer to join him on his travels. She hadn't spoken to the man since their dispute in the alleyway, unaware that he was currently being held captive in a daggered slumber.
With Elena's birthday coming up, her new job was planning the party. With the assistance of Caroline, of course.
"Okay, I've come to a conclusion," Mia announced to the wolf and the blonde vampire sat in front of her. The three of them were outside the Mystic Grill, enjoying the pleasant weather and peace, something they rarely had.
"What conclusion?" Tyler asked, glaring at the copy of Fifty Shades of Grey in her hands.
"I would be the worst submissive." The brunette shared, "Like if a guy told me to get on my knees I'd laugh at him and bite his dick off."
"Yeah, you'd drive him insane." Caroline nodded in agreement. "Probably strangle him with the whip."
"Uh hello?" Tyler looked at the two in confusion and disgust, "Are you guys seriously having a conversation about .... BDSM in public, and would you put that thing away." He snatched the book from Mia's hand, holding it out of her reach.
"How do you know what it is, Tyler?" Caroline smirked at him, raising her brows. When he was distracted, trying to come up with an answer, she stole the book back and handed it to her friend.
"Don't be a prude, Ty, it's just a book." Mia mocked, she didn't enjoy the story at all, the characters annoyed her and the dialogue was overdramatic, what she enjoyed was how it irritated her friends whenever she took it out in public. "Anyways, we've seen the kind of books your mom reads, so you can't judge us."
"What the hell are you doing looking at my mom's bookshelves?!" Tyler chuckled with amusement but there was also a hint of alarm present in his tone.
"Well..." Caroline leaned forward, grinning. "Remember last week when we were at your house, your mom was being a total bitch. So when she sent us upstairs to get her a jacket ... we looked at her book collection."
"And let's just say 365 Days isn't a calendar." The Petrova took a sip from her glass, keeping eye contact with the Lockwood.
Tyler grimaced, wishing time travel existed, a minute prior seemed like paradise to him. "And you guys wonder why she doesn't like you."
Before Caroline could begin, Mia spoke up, "Actually she doesn't like Care because she thinks you two are dating, she has no reason to hate me. Unless .... she thinks we're a throuple."
"Seriously?!" Caroline groaned, crinkling her nose in distaste. "That's disgusting."
Mia and Tyler gasped in unison, offense written on both of their faces. "Excuse you, Miss Forbes! If you prefer your little blue-eyed, blonde boys that's fine. But just know that you're missing out on Mexico's finest."
"Damn right." Tyler nodded, high-fiving the brunette beside him.
"I think I'll live." The blonde responded, trying to control her cheeks from flushing. Her feelings for Tyler had certainly grown the past few weeks but the two were yet to discuss it with each other. But that didn't mean it stopped everyone from teasing them, it was ridiculously obvious that there was something brewing. "You're just sad that your one true love is gone."
"Heath Ledger." Mia sighed, looking up at the sky.
"No, I meant Stef- ah!." Her words were cut off by a yelp, as a reaction to Mia kicking her in the shin from under the table. "Sorry." She muttered, smiling innocently.
"Hold up." Tyler turned to the brunette, trying to process what he'd just heard. "You like Stefan? En serio?"Seriously?
"Of course not," Mia mumbled, fidgeting with the hem of her top. She glanced up at the Lockwood, who wore a face of complete disbelief then yanked him forward by his shirt, keeping their faces at a threatening distance "Manten tu boco cerrado." Keep your mouth shut.
"No voy a decir nada." I'm not gonna say anything. Tyler held his hands up in surrender.
"Promesa?" Promise? She released him and held her pinkie out, glaring when he didn't immediately comply.
"Prometo." I promise. He wrapped his finger around hers, before pulling her in closer, placing his arm on the back of her chair. "I love it when you're pissed off, reminds me of my Abuela."
"Fuck off." Mia giggled, resting her head on his shoulder whilst Caroline looked at them in suspicion, making note to ask her friend about a certain topic later.
~~~~
"Where the fuck are you?" Mia huffed in annoyance, placing her phone on the dressing table so she could put her favourite earrings on, "I was on the verge of sending a search party."
"I got held up at work, I'll be there in an hour." Andie spoke through the phone. "Go mingle with the guests."
"I don't want to." The brunette whined, gazing at herself in the mirror. "I look hot so I need you to come look hot with me."
"You know what isn't hot? Me getting fired for leaving work, just because a century-old teenager refuses to do anything without me." Andie teased, but she loved that her presence was wanted.
Bonnie was spending the summer with her father, Caroline would constantly hang out with Tyler and Elena used all her free time trying to find Stefan, leaving Mia with no one. Jeremy had been acting strange and would make an excuse to leave anytime the Petrova would ask him why. So this meant when Andie started appearing at the Salvatore house more often than usual, it was the perfect opportunity for Mia to make a new friend.
She had been sneaking vervain in anything Andie would consume, which would lead to Damon getting burned and throwing a tantrum but the Petrova stated she would only stop if he let Andie go. So far her plan had been unsuccessful but she was glad he'd stopped feeding on the human and was actually treating her with respect.
"I still have loads to do, trust me I'd rather be at the party." The journalist remarked, "Look, go find a guy ... or girl and have some fun. Just one hour, I promise, then we'll have a drink and raise a glass to being the hottest in Mystic Falls. I gotta go."
"I hate you." Mia whispered with feigned anger.
"I love you too, but seriously go meet someone." Andie sang before ending the call, completely clueless about the danger that was lurking outside her studio.
Music could be heard from every room in the house so could the shouts from dozens of drunk teenagers. Mia debated staying in her room all evening but realised that soon Caroline would come looking for her. She made her way downstairs and approached the blonde, who was too busy glaring at Tyler to notice her.
"Are you okay?" Mia asked, shaking the girl slightly to break her gaze. "You look mad."
"Mad? About what... Tyler bringing Slutty Sophie to the party?" Caroline gave a bitter laugh, taking a swig straight from the bottle. "Why would I be mad about that?"
"Dial back on the bitchiness, Care. You wouldn't be saying this if she was here with anyone else." Mia scolded, she loved Caroline but the blonde had a tendency to say whatever came to mind, regardless of how insensitive it was. It was something she used to like about her until the words became harsher.
"Honestly, you don't have any right to be angry. You haven't told Tyler how you feel-"
"I'm not being bitchy." Caroline interjected. "And I don't feel anything."
"Mhm sure, then why does it matter that he brought someone?" Mia paused giving the Forbes a chance to respond, "Exactly, you like him. Everyone can see it, so stop the shaming and tell him.... Not yet though, let Sophie have fun tonight."
"Fine." Caroline muttered, crossing her arms. "Hey, can I ask you something?" She hesitated, knowing that the Petrova was likely to laugh about this. "Do you have feelings for Tyler? It's just that you two seem really .... close."
What the actual fuck. Was what she wanted to say, instead Mia simply glanced back at her with an unimpressed look. "I'm gonna act like you didn't just ask that ... and go over there." The brunette walked away, as Caroline chastised herself for doubting her best friend.
Mia stood by the bookshelf, surveying the room. She realised that a majority of the people there were complete strangers to her, normally she would introduce herself and make friends but that suddenly seemed too draining to do. The one person she desperately wanted to talk to was missing, practically being held hostage by the hybrid Mia had come to loathe.
"Nice party, huh?" A voice spoke from behind, Mia turned around, only to come face to face with a girl.
"Yeah, it's okay." She immediately took a step back, flustered at their close proximity.
"I heard two brothers own the house, they gotta be rich if they can afford all of this." The girl took a sip from her beer bottle. "That, or they're just spoiled little assholes relying on their parents."
"I live here." Mia laughed awkwardly, she studied the girl's face as it contorted with embarrassment, taking an extra second to notice the colour of her eyes, green.
"Crap, I'm sorry." She slapped a palm on her forehead before running a hand through her hair. "The Salvatores... vampires right?" The girl gestured to the daylight ring on Mia's finger, she observed the brunette's surprise with her last sentence. "Relax, I'm a werewolf." She added to put her at ease. "So, you live here with both brothers, I'm gonna guess you're not their sister."
"Nope." Mia shook her head, espying Caroline from across the room, whose eyebrows were arched at the sight of the two women. The blonde had become extremely wary of the people Mia got involved with, which was adorable but it also meant one-night stands were out of the question Caroline would become too involved with anyone Mia went on a date with, wanting to know everything about them to ensure they were good enough for her best friend, however it scared them away every time.
The thought of Damon being the last person she slept with scared Mia, she felt as though her body was in desperate need of a cleansing. However not the kind of cleansing you'd usually expect.
"So how does it work, do they ..." The girl leaned in closer to whisper, "..share you?"
Mia's eyes widened as the bourbon she had just drunk got caught in her throat. She pressed a hand to her neck in an attempt to control her coughs as the girl watched her in amusement. After a few moments of composing herself, she corrected the assumption. "I'm not dating either of them, we're just friends"
"But you've slept with them, right?" The woman smirked, Mia pretended not to notice her emerald eyes raking across her figure.
"No, I haven't." Mia denied until she saw the doubt written on the other's face. "Okay, so I've slept with one of them."
"When I was drunk." She added, glancing at Damon, who was too busy trying to woo his brother's girlfriend to even comprehend they were speaking about him. "But it was a one-time thing that won't be happening again.... ever."
"No judgement here." The girl held up a hand before resting it on Mia's upper arm. "I've been surrounded by guys for the past month, the temptation gets too much. I swear it's a relief to be around more girls sometimes, we're going insane. We were on a road trip when we saw a ton of people walking into this house, any excuse to party right?"
"Where you headed?" Mia asked, she saw Caroline approaching them from the corner of her eye but discreetly held up her middle finger as a way of telling her not to bother them. The Forbes sighed deeply before turning back around and began talking to Matt.
"The Appalachians." The girl responded, "Word on the street is, there's a crazy hybrid trying to form an army of freaks like him, thought it was best to hide somewhere before he manages to find us."
She detected the annoyance in Mia's face at the mention of that certain supernatural being. "You know him, is he an ex?"
"As if." Mia scoffed, rolling her eyes. The image of her dating Klaus quite literally made her nauseous. He'd done nothing but terrorise her friends in the short while he'd been in town, he was also the reason Stefan wasn't with them right now, enjoying the party...or sitting in a corner and watching the rest of them enjoying the party. "He's an asshole who needs to be put down. Trust me, the further you guys get away from him, the better."
"Noted." The girl nodded, gazing at Mia's lips. As she was about to make an advance they were approached by another woman.
"Hi, Mia. You look gorgeous." Dana smiled, bringing the brunette in for a hug, one that lasted a little too long to be counted as friendly. "How've you been?"
"I'm good, why wouldn't I be?" Mia quizzed whilst Dana's gaze explored her body.
"Caroline mentioned something about you missing Stefan a lot. You know, while he's been on vacation." Of course, she did.
Dana looked at the green-eyed girl that was standing beside Mia and smiled awkwardly, trying to convey that she wanted to be alone with the Petrova. Luckily the girl understood and walked away with her lips pressed upwards, it was the last thing she wanted to do.
"Caroline worries a lot, I'm fine." Mia reassured, making note to briefly strangle the Forbes girl for airing her business out to anyone that would listen.
"If you're not okay, you can tell me. I can help." Dana offered, toying with a strand of Mia's hair. She'd been given a duty and wanted to uphold it. "It's my job to take care of you." Her eyes widened upon hearing her own words.
Huh? Before she had a chance to ask for an elaboration Dana rushed away, realising she had said too much. Mia glanced at the contents of her glass, wondering if that was the reason she'd maybe misheard what her classmate said. This shit is strong.
"So... Mia?" The green-eyed girl appeared once again, she debated asking around for the Petrova's name but was grateful once Dana had said it. "I'm Hayley."
Hayley glanced over at Dana, who was staring at the two, disappointment written all over her expression. "That girl's into you, I can tell."
"Dana? There's no way." Mia furrowed her brows, laughing quietly in disbelief until she recalled how flustered the girl usually got around her. "She's never said anything directly to me. I can't be bothered with guessing games anymore."
"You want someone to be straightforward?" Hayley asked, catching the corner of her own bottom lip between her teeth. Perhaps it was the alcohol controlling her but she could only think of one thing she wanted to do that night.
"Yeah, something like that." Mia smirked, tucking a lock of Hayley's hair behind her ear, her gaze drifting to her lips until she grasped what she was doing. "Sorry um.. it was just.." The Petrova stammered, "Um ... do you want to maybe g-"
"Hi girls." Caroline interrupted, wrapping her arms around Mia's front whilst she looked the Marshall girl up and down judgingly. "Enjoying the party?"
"Yeah, it's great." Hayley murmured, fighting the urge to drag the blonde away by her hair.
"That's good, fantastic." The Forbes flashed a fake smile, "Hey Mia, can I just talk to you for a quick sec?" Without giving the brunette a chance to respond, Caroline pulled her to the furthest corner of the room. "I don't like her."
"You don't even know her." Mia chuckled, feeling sorry about her friend's rudeness, once again Caroline was stopping her from getting action. "She's actually really nice."
"You wouldn't actually date her though right?" Caroline arched a brow, before glaring at Hayley, who simply smiled brightly back. "She just gives me bad vibes, okay? I can't explain it."
"That's not fair, Care." Mia retorted, becoming slightly frustrated. "What, you don't get Tyler so I can't have anyone either? Do you expect me to just sit here by myself?"
"Of course not, just not with her. She was giving Tyler sex eyes before, it's just ...." Caroline paused as an idea came to mind. "I'm such an idiot, if she's with you then she'll stop staring at Tyler. That's perfect." She gently pushed Mia back in Hayley's direction. "Okay, you can talk to her."
"How much have you had to drink?" Mia brushed her friend away and sat down, crossing her arms. "I'm not going to her now just because you've given me permission. I'll go over when it feels right."
"Suit yourself." The blonde shrugged, "I, on the other hand, am going to get what's mine." She pulled the top of her dress down slightly to reveal more cleavage, before strutting off, eager to find Tyler.
A few minutes passed and Mia found herself becoming more impatient, however, she wasn't quite sure what exactly she was waiting for. The past few weeks just felt off to her.
Without Stefan, Jenna, or even Bonnie. Although they spoke on the phone quite frequently, Mia missed the Bennett witch a tremendous amount. She and Stefan were two of the only things keeping her sane in that town. She also found herself missing Elijah, his company was calming and she hoped he was happy on his travels.
But he was gone, as was Stefan. Wasting time thinking about and worrying for them became tedious, especially when their locations were unknown, however, that didn't drift her thoughts away from the younger Salvatore. She didn't know if he was even alive, and the thought of him dead was too unbearable to linger on, there was something special about her relationship with Stefan.
Mia always felt herself relaxing around him like she would with Lexi and Jesse, he gave her comfort, and felt like home. She loved all her friends but Stefan seemed to be the one person that she could relate to, they'd both lost Lexi, someone that made them the best versions of themselves. That was the feeling she missed the most, of just truly being yourself with someone, that's what she had with Stefan until Klaus took him away.
Each day that passed added to Mia's disdain for the hybrid. He'd kidnapped her, held her captive, killed Jenna then went as far as to say Mia was the reason for The Sommers' death. He'd been nothing but unpleasant. But what she couldn't understand was why he hadn't killed her, especially when she'd given him every reason to. Not that he necessarily needed a reason, as Elijah said whenever Klaus Mikaelson wanted something, he got it, regardless of who stood in his way.
She wondered what she'd be doing if she went on the trip with them. It would've given her a chance to get even closer to Stefan but she knew that wouldn't be fair when he had Elena waiting for him at home. She just wished Damon shared that same mindset, Mia grew sick of having to watch him and Elena flirt as though they weren't factors of the younger Salvatore's absence.
Mia couldn't overcome the feeling of being stuck, nothing was changing but yet everything seemed different. Waiting seemed to be the only thing to do. She looked over her shoulder discreetly, smiling to herself once she'd seen that Hayley was already looking at her.
Fuck it. The brunette picked up her glass and drained its contents then stood up, making her way over to the werewolf. Without a word, she held her hand out to Hayley, who immediately took it and lead them upstairs.
Mia could feel the girl's gaze from the back of her head and was caught off guard when she was shoved against the wall, Hayley's lips smashing onto hers, she immediately responded. The Petrova's hands travelled down her body, gripping her hips whilst the latter's explored her hair. "Wait." Mia pulled away, cupping the werewolf's face, "Is this okay?"
"More than okay." Hayley replied breathlessly, "I've been waiting to do this all night." She descended her lips onto hers once again, sighing softly at the feeling.
They kept the kiss going as they stumbled into Mia's bedroom, making sure to shut the door behind them, their desire for each other amplifying with every passing second. Hayley tugged Mia's dress upwards and helped her out of it. Leaving her only in her heels before pushing her onto the bed. She stood over her, taking in the sight which caused the Petrova to become restless, she pulled Hayley's arm, bringing her on top as their lips reconnected.
Hayley peppered kisses along Mia's jaw as her hand prised off the girl's underwear. Her index finger traced over the Petrova's entrance before she pushed it in, causing a loud moan to leave Mia's mouth. "God, you're hot." The wolf whispered against her neck, she nibbled the skin gently, adding another finger in as they pumped through her core.
Endless sounds of pleasure were let out by Mia as her gaze clouded with the feeling of pure euphoria rushing through her. Hayley brought her thumb to Mia's clit and rubbed in circles, immediately receiving a response when all that could be heard were whimpers and gasps. She curled her fingers upwards and smirked at the reaction.
Mia's mouth hung open with her eyes screwed shut, Hayley was certain she'd be able to reach her climax just by looking at her. She picked up the pace, knowing she'd hit the right spot as she felt Mia tighten around her. "Fuck." The Petrova breathed out, she gripped the side of the pillow as the knot in her stomach grew tighter.
Her back arched as she rode out her high, moaning Hayley's name as the girl watched in pure admiration and lust. She lay still for a moment, trying to catch her breath as her chest heaved. "Well, that was fun." Hayley giggled, falling back against the mattress.
Mia grabbed her hand, placing both of the Marshall's fingers in her mouth, maintaining eye contact as her tongue rolled around, sucking away the remnants of her pleasure before pulling them away. "We're not done yet." She remarked, straddling Hayley's hips, kissing her once again.
She yanked the girl's dress down, ripping the material then tossed it to the side. Her bra received the same treatment as it was torn in two. Mia buried her face between Hayley's breasts, making her breath hitch. She grazed her teeth against the soft skin, causing it to scrape slightly as a drop of blood rose to the surface. However, the Petrova simply brushed her tongue against the cut, licking away the crimson section.
Hayley moaned as Mia continued her exploration of her body, moving away for a moment to appreciate all the marks she'd left behind. Wolves healed slower than vampires which meant she'd be leaving covered with evidence of their fun. Mia's lips trailed lower as she pried the girl's legs apart, removing her thong and discarding it.
She planted kisses along her inner thighs, glancing up at the panting werewolf, who stared back in anticipation. Her eyes flashed red as she dove in, her tongue slowly flicking up Hayley's slit as she threw her head back and gasped. Mia's hand cupped the green-eyed woman's breast, softly squeezing the skin whilst Hayley continued to moan.
She'd reached her climax but the Petrova showed no signs of stopping. Mia dragged her hand back down Hayley's body, caressing every inch then locked an arm around the wolf's thigh to pull her closer. Tears streamed down Hayley's face as she felt her core aching with sensitivity, she shuddered, letting out a harsh exhale as her high approached once more. Her legs trembled, only coming to a stop when the vampire stroked them soothingly as though she'd read her mind.
Her fingers raked through Mia's hair, her hips bucking upwards when the vampire grabbed her left leg and placed it over her shoulder, granting her further access. "One more?" Mia asked, licking her lips as she waited for the girl's reply.
"Are you trying to kill me?" Hayley joked, her hair puffed up, laying messily around her face.
"Not yet." Mia teased, tying her curls up into a ponytail.
~~~~
"Thanks for the dress." Hayley said as the two made their way downstairs, "Are you sure it's okay?"
"It's fine. I'm the reason your other one is wrecked." Mia smirked, linking their arms together when they turned the corner. "It kinda sucks that I'm not gonna see you again."
"Unless you want to come with me?" Hayley offered with a light-hearted tone, she'd made it seem like a joke but she truly wanted the Petrova to accompany her on the trip.
"These kids are too mentally unstable to be left unsupervised." She mocked, gesturing at Matt and Jeremy, who were smoking weed in the corner. "Can't go a week without getting into trouble."
All of a sudden Damon pushed past the two girls and stormed upstairs, stress was practically radiating from his body. Mia's eyes followed the man then moved back to Hayley, smiling guiltily, "I'm sorry, I need to check on him."
"That's my cue to leave then," Hayley remarked, cupping Mia's face before pecking her lips gently. "See you around."
"Bye." Mia murmured softly, watching as the werewolf left, she hoped there'd be an opportunity for them to meet again. She walked up the stairs, following the sound of chaos that lead her to Stefan's room, eyes widening at the sight of Damon trashing everything.
She watched in shock for a few moments until he grabbed the younger Salvatore's guitar, about to smash it. "What the fuck are you doing?!" Mia exclaimed, snatching the instrument off him, placing it back on the rack. Damon knelt on the floor, a picture of true defeat.
"Andie's dead." He spoke harshly, images of the woman on the ground flashing through his mind. Mia let out a quiet gasp at the news, she'd wished she had done more to save the woman, her involvement in the supernatural world was completely unnecessary.
"That's not possible." She stammered, shaking her head in disbelief. "I just spoke to her like an hour ago, how.. who?"
"Stefan. He killed her, that's the thanks I get for trying to save his ass." Damon sneered, "I've spent the last few weeks tracking him down, helping Elena deal with this whole thing and he just kills her... like it was easy.
Mia bit her tongue, trying to hold back the rant she had for the blue-eyed vampire. She'd warned him and Elena several times to stop the search for Stefan, he didn't want to be found. With every lead they followed the more they heightened the risk of Klaus finding out Elena was alive. Although she desperately wished he hadn't killed Andie, she understood why he'd done it. It was his way of putting them off saving him. Perhaps if Damon had let the reporter go, as Mia had repeatedly told him to, she would still be alive.
"I'm sorry." She joined Damon on the floor, leaning against the wall. "She didn't deserve that."
"He's gone, Pierce." Damon sniffled. "He's flipped the switch, gone full-blown ripper. We're never getting him back."
Mia pulled him in closer, cradling his head against her chest whilst he quietly sobbed. It wasn't only Andie's death he was grieving with, turning off the humanity switch meant that he'd lost his brother. They'd all lost Stefan. "It's okay, it'll be okay." She'd be lying if she said there wasn't a small part of her finding a minuscule comfort in this, at least they now knew Stefan was alive.
After an hour of comforting Damon, Mia went to her room. She slumped down on her bed, her mood now was colossally different from when she'd entered the room earlier that night with Hayley. Andie wasn't dead then, Stefan hadn't turned off his humanity, in that moment she felt the most relaxed she'd been in weeks.
Her thoughts were interrupted by her phone ringing, the caller unknown. She answered it, part of her believing it was Elijah. "Hello?"
However, there was no response on the other side, only the sound of faint breathing. It alarmed her how quickly she recognised who it belonged to. "Stefan? Oh, thank god." She breathed out in relief, "You don't know how worried I've been. Damon said you flipped the switch."
Stefan closed his eyes, listening to her frantic voice. The guilt of killing Andie had become too unbearable, also the push he was receiving from Klaus to abandon his humanity. Once he'd left the bar they were in, he decided to call the one person he knew would understand why he'd done everything he did that night. "I've messed everything up." He spoke quietly, tears rolling down his face.
"You haven't messed anything, okay? Everything you've done is to keep Elena safe." Mia didn't want to keep enabling both Salvatores to do awful deeds in the name of Elena's protection, a lot of the time the things they'd do were unnecessary but the last thing Stefan needed was a lecture.
"Stef, listen to me. If anyone can get through this, it's you, I mean, think how long you've been dealing with your ripper urges. Yes, sometimes you give in but most of the time you don't, you focus on one good thing. Damon is alive right now because of you, Elena is safe because of you. To be honest, if it wasn't for you I'm convinced Damon would've killed me by now."
"I love you, Stefan." She paused, glancing over at the framed picture of their whole group. "Elena loves you, we all care about you, you'll be okay. But if Klaus keeps annoying you, just tell me where you are and I'll set my alter ego on him."
"Mila." Stefan chuckled quietly, the brunette seemed to have a talent for getting him to laugh, even in the direst situations.
"Yeah." Mia smiled to herself, surprised that he remembered such a trivial detail. "Klaus would kill me in a split second but it's worth a shot."
He would never kill you. Stefan thought to himself, the hybrid had returned his memories to him of their time in the 20s. To him, they felt like an out-of-body experience, Mia and Klaus being in love, happy together. He was glad he discouraged Mia from joining them on the trip, had Klaus returned her memories then too she would've been left confused, and the last thing she needed in her life was more confusion.
But what stood out to him the most was the conversation he'd had with Mia on her 19th birthday in 1922.
"Mia, you need to make them stop looking." Stefan told her, "I got lucky this time but if they carry on Klaus will sense something's up."
"You do realise this is Elena we're talking about, when has she ever stayed put?" Mia referenced the night of the masquerade ball. They'd all gone to the party to kill Katherine, ignoring Elena so she would remain at home. However, the doppelganger didn't listen which lead to her getting kidnapped by Rose.
"I'll try, I promise. You just need to focus on yourself, okay? Don't worry about us, everyone's good. Elena's good, Damon's okay, Caroline is ... Caroline."
"What about you?" Stefan asked, since his memories had returned so had the confusing feelings he had for the girl. "How are you?"
"I'm...fine, I'm okay." Maybe if she said it enough times, it'd come true. "I just wish you were here, I needed someone to hide away from the party with." They both laughed softly, recalling the incident of Tyler's birthday when they'd both escaped out the back door and spent the rest of the evening wandering around the woods, hoping no one would find them.
"Stefan, you outside mate?" A deep voice rang through Mia's ears, belonging to Klaus.
Dumb cunt
"I gotta go." Stefan spoke quickly, "Take care of yourself, Mia...Thank you."
"Anytime." The Petrova murmured then cut the call. Hearing his voice after so long seemed to relieve the heavy weight she hadn't even realised was burdening her heart until it'd now gone. At least the assumption of his humanity being gone had been disproved, but she couldn't help but wonder if he would be better off having turned it off. The guilt of taking a life wouldn't hang over him... but then he wouldn't be Stefan.
Mia picked up the glass of bourbon that lay on her beside table and raised her glass, "Here's to be being the hottest in Mystic Falls." She downed it in one sip, knowing that somewhere ... Andie was also raising a glass.
Her phone alert broke her spiral of overthinking.

13th July 1922 (1 month before Mikael)
"Nik, I've already said countless times, I do not want a party." Mia complained as she walked towards the entrance of the bar, accompanied by her lover. "It's not as though I've actually gotten any older. There's no cause for celebration."
"Anything to do with your existence is a cause for celebration." Klaus remarked, lacing his fingers with hers.
"Stop messing around." The brunette glared at him, moving her hand away from his. "I'm being completely serious."
"As am I." He noted with a smirk as they came to a pause by the door. "In fact, from now on I declare we throw a party every time you so much as breathe."
This statement lead to a scoff leaving her mouth, she rolled her eyes in annoyance at his light hearted approach to her crisis which, in her mind, was serious. "I despise you." Mia muttered, attempting to walk away from him.
Klaus quietly laughed at her crankiness, he caught her wrist, pulling her back towards him. "What was that, sweetheart?" He slowly backed her into the wall, keeping his hand in-between her body and the bricks to keep her dress clean.
"I... despise...you." Mia repeated, enunciating each word. The two stared at each other in silence with no expression. Until the girl's lips twitched upwards slightly but she forced them back down. The hybrid's mouth mimicked hers but this time he was determined not to give in, returning his look to cold. They remained that way for a few more moments however Mia felt herself beginning to smile once more thus setting Klaus off as they both broke into laughter.
"You're absolutely maddening." Klaus chuckled, bringing her in for a kiss. Mia wrapped her arms loosely around his neck as they deepened it. Bodies pressed tightly together against the wall, lost in each others' presence. That was until...
"Nuh uh, none of this outside my bar." Gloria shouted, peeking her head out the door. "Y'all have two minutes to get your backsides in here or I'm dragging you by your hair."
Klaus pulled away from the kiss for a second to yell back, "Leave us be witch!" He shot a sharp look her way but knew why she was in a rush, she and Rebekah had been planning the party for a few weeks, he'd even assisted them but only because it was for Mia.
"It's my birthday, let me have fun." Mia waved Gloria off and grabbed him by the tie, pulling them deeper into the alleyway before connecting their lips once more.
The hybrid was always affectionate with her but on this day it'd seemed to amplify. He woke her up that morning with the gentle touch of his lips across her face, also compelled a chef to make her breakfast in bed that was served next to a small box, containing a pair of pearl stud earrings as her birthstone was a pearl. However, she said she'd save them for a special occasion even after his objections.
The rest of the morning was filled with him worshipping every inch of her body, convinced she was the most perfect woman to have been placed on that Earth. He'd come to the conclusion that her birthday was now his favourite day, especially if that's how they would spend it each year.
Mia deduced he was trying to distract her from the obvious sadness of the occasion. Being that it was the first one she was spending without her sister, her twin. Born on the same day yet now one of them was to grow years older without the other, it didn't feel right to the brunette. She'd always believed it should've been her to lose life instead of Ariana. Despite that, her heart overpowered with love for Klaus and his efforts.
"We should probably head in," Klaus suggested, mumbling against her cheek. He hoisted her up, making her sit on the hood of a random car, his lips travelled down to the low neckline of her dress, Rebekah had practically forced the Petrova to wear something a little more revealing that day. Mia was slightly uncomfortable with it but the way Klaus reacted when he saw her in it reassured her that she looked amazing.
"I think..." Her words were cut off with a sigh as she stroked the back of his hair, "I'm sure they can wait a little longer, Love." Klaus could've sworn his heart stopped beating for a split second when she called him that.
She gently moved his head away from her and cupped his face, "Do you ever wish you could freeze a moment in time and just stay like that forever?"
The randomness of her question caught Klaus off guard, "I'm not sure, why-"
"Ten! Nine!" Gloria bellowed down the alleyway, counting down as a warning, "Don't make me get to one, inside now."
"I don't want to," Mia whined, resting her forehead on his shoulder as he rubbed her back. "This whole thing is utterly useless."
"I reckon it's more for Rebekah than you," Klaus said, placing her back on the ground, his arm hooked around her waist when they walked to the door. "We'll wait an hour, if you still decide you want nothing to do with this, then we return home immediately." Reluctantly, she nodded and they made their way into the bar. The room had been decorated beautifully, filled with banners and balloons that were all personalised with her name on them.
"Happy birthday!" A group of people cheered, half of them she didn't even know. She plastered on a fake smile and met almost all of them, thanking them for their completely unwanted presence.
"What took you so long?" Rebekah huffed, glancing over at Klaus who subtly shook his head as a way of saying leave it alone. "Never mind, the important thing is you're here and we can finally begin." She ushered her to a table where a very large cake was sat.
"Hi, Amelia." A woman approached her, Mia smirked noticing that it was the same girl she fed on with Klaus that night of their first kiss. "Happy birthday, I brought you a present."
"Thank you Jazmyn." Mia hugged her, planting a kiss on her cheek. "I appreciate it." The woman blushed violently at the gesture and walked away but bumped into a table as she left.
"She fancies you." Klaus mumbled, holding up the gift with distaste. It was a small jewellery box with flowers painted on it. "It's cheap, tacky." He tossed it to the side, earning him a glare from Mia.
"You're such a child." She rubbed his chest, trying to calm him.
"Well if I'm a child, we'll have to question your morals, Love." He teased, kissing her cheek to change the subject.
An hour had passed and Mia's mood has drastically changed even though she tried her best to remain irritated. Being around the people she cared about gave her joy and this small group happened to be the people she loved the most.
"Have you heard from Tommy?" Mia asked George, the former bartender had quit his job and left Chicago all of a sudden without saying goodbye to any of them. They'd all suspected it was due to seeing Rebekah flaunt with Stefan every day, he truly loved the Mikaelson, the only issue being she wanted to get married and he didn't.
"Haven't heard a thing." George responded, passing her a glass of lemonade. Due to the sudden exit of his friend he had to take over the job behind the bar. "I get that he wants a clean break but I just wish we knew he was okay."
"I'm sure he's fine." Mia comforted before taking a sip. "He's very strong. Once he lifted me and Bex over his shoulders." She mocked the actions to show him, "And he didn't even drop us." They'd asked around but no one knew where Tommy had disappeared to, "Has Miss Avery contacted you?"
"Yes, I got the job but I don't start for a while though." George had applied to volunteer at an orphanage, he knew what it was like to grow up without a family and wanted to provide them with the care and guidance they deserved.
"I'm going out of town for a while, there's something I need to do." He briefly looked back at Klaus, remembering the night the hybrid came to him with the job. "But I'll be back soon."
"Good, I'll miss you too much." Mia smiled, "Come dance with me, Georgie." She grabbed his hand, leading him to the dance floor where they spun around in each other's arms. Klaus watched them from across the room, he didn't like another man touching her but knew that George wasn't as foolish enough to try something. Not after Mia had already chosen someone else over him, even though he was confident about that his gaze remained glued on them, he enjoyed seeing her happy.
The duo had accidentally bumped into someone whilst they were dancing, the man turned around with a furious expression. "I'm ever so sorry sir." Mia apologised, stepping back. She recognised him from one of her conversations with Klaus, Andrew Essex, he was supposedly turned into a vampire by a woman he seduced however once he'd gotten what he wanted he staked her.
"Are you so rabid that you can't even dance properly?" He spat, looking at her up and down.
"Is there a problem here?" Stefan approached them, over the past recent weeks he'd become more protective over the girl, his emotions slowly finding their way back.
"Yeah, she's making a fool of herself. Tell her to sit back down whilst she still has the right to be in a place like this." He sneered, glaring at her, "I don't know why I'm surprised, it's to be expected from people like her."
Stefan and George's eyes both widened upon hearing the comment but Mia remained naïve as to what his true meaning behind those words were. "That's slightly hypocritical sir." She chuckled and crossed her arms, "You're a vampire yourself."
All she received was a scoff when he walked away, sitting down at a table by himself. "What a strange man, doesn't even realise he's being rude about his own kind." The Petrova turned to face the boys, who glanced at each other before looking back at her.
"I don't think.." Stefan hesitated, preparing himself for the heart-wrenching look that would soon grace the girl's expression. "I don't think he was talking about vampires, gorgeous."
"What do you mea-. She halted abruptly once she'd realised. "Oh." Oh. Having grown up in a completely white household, there was always a difference in the way she was treated. Her sister's complexion however was a lot fairer and her eyes a deep blue, which Mia assumed she'd inherited from her father since they'd never met him.
"Are you alright?" George placed a hand on her shoulder, debating whether to hug her in Klaus' presence.
"I'm fine, over time you become accustomed to these things." Mia pressed her lips upwards in an attempt to smile but was aware it wasn't convincing. "I just never thought it would happen here."
Gloria, Rebekah and Klaus had overheard the entire thing and were stood in a huddle at the corner of the room. They all nodded at each other before heading over to the other trio. "Come here, sweetheart." Klaus pulled her into an embrace as she fought hard against the tears, determined to not let anything ruin her night. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Nik." She moved away with a false grin, they could all see past it. To say Klaus was angry, would be an understatement. All he wanted that day was for the woman he loved to be happy for the occasion she was already dreading. It enraged him how anyone could look at her and not see perfection, the fact that they could let something like skin colour and ethnicity affect how they treated her.
He did know one thing though...
Anyone who upset his girl would face the most merciless and excruciating death. And he was going to have his fun with this one.
"Sweetie, there's a gift for you in my dressing room. Why don't you go sit there and we'll all be back in a while." Gloria told her as she took off her gloves, she didn't want to taint them with blood.
"We need to get your last surprise." Klaus pressed a kiss to her temple, they all watched as she walked away, waiting until she was out of sight before beginning to follow the man outside. The hybrid came to a stop upon seeing Stefan looking in the direction of Gloria's dressing room. "Ripper, are you not joining us?"
"Don't you think someone should stay with her?" He hesitated, wary of what Klaus' response would be, "You know, just in case."
The Mikaelson man wasn't oblivious, he could clearly see that Stefan harboured complicated feelings for his lover, if he was to ever make an advance his heart would be swiftly removed from his body. However in this moment, Mia needed someone who would kill for her and since he definitely wasn't going to miss the opportunity to cause pain to those who wronged her, Stefan would make an adequate substitute. "Alright."
Stefan nodded, without giving chance for Klaus to change his mind, he made his way to the dressing room, knocking on the door before going inside. His eyes fell to the beautiful vampire sitting on the couch, eating from a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries, the way she found joy in the simplest things entranced him. "Can I sit here?"
"For now, until someone better comes along." Mia replied cheekily, some would get offended by a remark like that but the smile on her face made that impossible for him. It was the first time they'd been alone since that night he made a comment about the girl abandoning Jesse.
They sat in complete silence for around a minute until Mia felt herself practically choking on the words that wanted to leave her mouth. "I'm sorry." She blurted out loudly, making Stefan flinch at the outburst. "I shouldn't have brought up your brother that day, I knew it would irritate you and that's why I did it. It was wrong and I'm very very sorry.... very."
Stefan chuckled quietly at the erraticness of the apology, "It's fine, I shouldn't have said those things about your friend." He held his hand out to her, "Truce?"
"Truce." She smiled, shook his hand then gestured to the bowl beside her, "Would you like some?" If there was one thing Mia was possessive about, it was her strawberries, she rarely shared them so Stefan couldn't help but feel honoured. "Are you feeling better now, with the whole emotions thingy?"
That was another thing he liked about her, he could tell her anything and knew she would understand and keep it to herself. Despite spending a majority of his time with the Mikaelsons he was yet to tell them that his humanity was actually on and that he'd simply been holding his feelings back. "They're getting harder to restrain, I'm just... If I let everything back in I'm letting in all the hurt and pain. It's just easier this way."
"Bex told me about her friend who turned it off." Mia sat up straight and spoke clearly as if she was giving a lecture. "You just have to focus on one good thing and the rest of them won't hurt as bad when they return."
"I have." Stefan hinted, taking a strawberry from her. "You see, for these last few weeks. I've been thinking about something."
"Is it good?"
"Completely." He whispered as she moved closer with interest. "Concentrating on this is... well it's the most I've felt for a long time."
"What is it?" Mia quizzed, wondering what could be so special that it would make a ripper want to feel more than just satisfaction from the fear of his victims.
Stefan leaned forward, wiping away the small drop of strawberry juice from her lips. "It's you." Her eyes widened slightly with surprise but she covered it up with a blink. She knew Stefan was attracted to her and claimed to be interested a few weeks prior but she guessed it was because he wanted power over Klaus. Yet here he was saying that she was the reason he would want his feelings back completely and for some unexplainable reason, she believed him to be genuine.
"Stefan.." Mia began but honestly couldn't find the words to say.
"Hear me out, you don't trust me because I can't feel. But what if I left town, what if I left and worked on myself." He tried to interpret her expression but it was unreadable. "I'm not the same guy that I was when I came to Chicago, the Ripper."
"I hate that word." Mia muttered, she didn't like how Klaus would address him that way as if feeding on humans was his only asset.
"I hate it too." Stefan agreed, placing his hand on her leg, "Mia....I haven't felt this way about anyone in a long time, you make me want to be better, be my old self again."
"That isn't enough, you should want to be better for yourself." Mia explained, "What if something was to happen to me, you'd return back to feeding until you almost pass out. I don't think a crush is sufficient encouragement in this crisis. Do it for you."
"This is for me, I promise." He smiled, cupping her cheek. "When I'm with you, it's easy, effortless. You don't just see me as that Ripper who only cares about killing." He edged near her, their faces too close to be platonic, "You bring out the human side of me, I've been trying to push it away... but I can't."
"I love Nik." Mia murmured, avoiding eye contact with the vampire. He sensed her discomfort and moved away.
"Do you think there'll be a time where you don't?" He questioned, seeing the girl with Klaus was hard to endure, watching her show the hybrid affection and desperately wishing she would direct it to him instead.
"I think.." She stopped to think, contemplating on what it would be like if she didn't love the Mikaelson. "I think Nik would have to do something extremely vile to get me to stop loving him."
"Then you think I'd be in with a chance?" Stefan teased, secretly hoping that Klaus would do something unforgivable soon.
"You'll be waiting a long time." She noted. "I loved him as soon as I met him."
"I'll wait forever and a day."
Mia giggled, shaking her head. "I shouldn't be entertaining this." She knew she wouldn't be able to tell anyone about this conversation. Scared that if Rebekah found it she would blame Mia and say she interfered in her relationship, then Klaus would feel betrayed and they'd both leave her ... alone.
"You're not, you're just humouring me."
"Ah, that's what we're calling it?" Mia tilted her head, grinning at him.
"If you'd like." Stefan reached into the inner pocket of his blazer and pulled out a small box. "I got you a present." He handed it to her, waiting in anticipation.
"Oh my God." The Petrova quietly gasped at the gift, a pair of diamond halo earrings. "They're beautiful, they must've cost a fortune."
"Not as much as you might think." He smiled, pleased with her reaction. "They came with a matching necklace but I'll give you that next year."
Mia put the studs in before going to the mirror to admire them, her face lighting up with delight, "I love them, I'll wear them always." She pulled the man up from the couch and engulfed him in a hug. "Thank you."
He closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of her touch, his heart feeling at ease in her arms. "Thank you, I don't think you know how you've helped me."
"Mia." A voice spoke, alarming both of them, they let go of each other and saw Klaus stood by the door. His gaze darted to the new gift that she was wearing. "It's getting late, we should go home."
"I'll be right there." Mia replied, walking away until Stefan grabbed her hand. He looked at the exit to make sure Klaus was out of earshot then continued, "Just out of curiosity, what kind of extremely vile things would he have to do?"
Mia rolled her eyes, holding back a laugh. "Goodnight Stefan." She leaned in and kissed his cheek before leaving him standing there.
"Goodnight." He mumbled even though he knew she wouldn't be able to hear. He was certain that, for a girl like that, he would definitely wait forever and a day.

Mia stood outside on the balcony, overlooking the city. There was a reason they called Chicago, the Windy City, not only were the people full of hot air but there were always groups bustling down the streets. She looked to the sky at the stars, it gave her comfort to act as though her sister and mother were watching down on her.
"Happy Birthday Ariana." She whispered, wiping away the stray tear that streamed down her face. "I do wish you were with me right now."
Suddenly she felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around her around from behind, "Penny for your thoughts." Whilst she was busy with Stefan, Klaus with the help of Gloria and Rebekah had thoroughly mangled Andrew Essex.
First Rebekah had shoved a heavy amount of vervain in his mouth to slow down the healing then began the pleasant activity of removing each and every one of his teeth before feeding them to him. During this Gloria gave him constant aneurysms, stopping for split seconds so he would feel relief only to return the pain 10 times more extreme.
Klaus, as expected, was the most ruthless. He started off by ripping out Andrew's tongue from his mouth, ensuring he would never speak hateful words like that again, not that he was going to get the opportunity with or without his tongue. Next, he dragged a blade that'd been laced with vervain across the man's chest.
Carving his own and Mia's initials across the skin.
The organs were next to go, the intestines, liver then finally the heart. Once removed, Rebekah rubbed it in the corpse's face, just to be petty. The body was burnt by the river as they all stood smiling, proud of their handiwork, the world needed fewer people like Andrew anyways.
George stood on the side the entire time, he wouldn't take part in the violence but secretly wanted to hear the screams of the man who'd insulted his friend, as much as he hated to admit it. Plus, he didn't trust the Mikaelsons to be alone with Gloria, they were capable of anything and would give the same treatment to anyone who inconvenienced them.
"What are you doing out here, all on your own?" Klaus asked, twisting the ribbon that lay on her wrist.
"I'm just thinking." Mia sighed, she pretended not to notice the splatters of blood on all their attires, it made her feel sick to her stomach at the thoughts of what they must've done to that man. She knew if she voiced that opinion they'd simply say they were protecting her but there were always other ways to do that.
"Did you have a good day?" The hybrid leaned in, peppering kisses down her neck. His hand moved to her front, loosening the belt of her night robe.
"The best." She rotated in his arms to face him, "It was perfect." Klaus slowly slid the robe off her shoulders, the breeze hitting her skin immediately, causing goose bumps to rise. He tossed the material to the side, eyes scanning her body. If he believed in God, he'd thank him every day for the creation of his soulmate.
He used all the strength he could muster to avoid tearing the silk night dress off her, the thin material did little to conceal what was wrapped underneath.
"Nik, we're on the balcony," Mia exclaimed, her fingers wove through his hair, while his lips began their journey, drifting further from her neck down to her chest. "Someone will see."
That caught his attention immediately, no one deserved to see her in that state of euphoria. And if anyone did, they would soon lose the ability to see as their eyeballs rolled across the floor. He lifted her from the ground, hooking her legs around his waist, and walked into the bedroom. Mia laughed at his antics, the sound increasing when he lay her on the bed, "You and your jealousy. You really are a difficult one, Mr Mikaelson."
"Only when it comes to you, my love." He reached for a box that sat on the dressing table and handed it to her. "It's still your birthday."
She opened it to find a pearl necklace, like the one he'd gifted her months ago. However, this one had a small crest with an M engraved into it. "M for Mia, I love it."
Klaus' lips formed a straight line, he wanted to tell her that the M actually stood for Mikaelson, but that was a conversation for another day. "I'm glad." He took it from her and moved her hair to the side so he could fasten the clasp. Once done he planted a kiss on her shoulder, smiling at her when she turned around. "You're stunning."
The family crest looked better on her than it did on him.
Mia glanced up to see him staring at her, she'd never thought one day someone would gaze at her with as much love in their eyes as he did. "This," Klaus mumbled, pulling her towards him. She simply looked at him, confusion evident on her face so he continued, "You asked me earlier if I ever wanted to freeze time, stay in a moment for all eternity. Well, I choose now." He cupped her cheek and pondered on what he would do if he didn't have her, going mad seemed to be the most likely outcome. "I love you, more than anything."
"I love you too, but you have to promise this is the last one you'll buy me." Mia said, admiring her new jewellery as he nuzzled into her neck. "You already gave me one before."
"And I'll get you five more." Klaus teased, kissing her on the cheek. "One for each day of the week."
"I don't need all these fancy things."
Klaus backed her into the headboard, leaning over her. He brushed the hair away from her face, his hand moving down to rub her hip, "You're a true wonder Sweetheart, you deserve this entire world yet you never ask for a piece of it."
"I have no desire for the world, Nik." Mia stated, sitting up so they were face to face, lips millimetres away from each other. "I have you, that's more than enough for me."

13th July 2010
"Wake up!" A shrill voice screamed into Mia's ear, she opened her eyes to see Caroline laying beside her. "Happy birthday!" She jumped on top of the girl, forcing her to wake up.
"Care, I love you but you have 10 seconds to get off me before I throw you." Mia groaned, switching positions to make the blonde fall off. "Let me sleep."
"No way, it's not every day you turn 107."
"It's not even meant to be possible." Mia retorted as she buried her head under the pillow, "Let's pretend that it isn't so I can be dead today, I just wanna be alone."
In all honesty, the last thing Mia wanted to do that day was celebrate her birthday. It was her first one without Lexi, she was normally the one that would jump on top of her and bring her a cupcake for breakfast. They'd spend the whole day watching movies then dress up like celebrities and go to every possible club in town.
"You can't be alone on your birthday." Caroline argued before moving the pillow off the girl's face, her breath hitching slightly once she'd seen Mia's face faintly damp with tears. She lay next to her and wrapped her arms around her body. "Okay, you can be alone all day but at least come to the Grill later so we can cut the cake."
"Deal." Mia smiled, pressing a kiss on her cheek.
"Little Pierce!" Damon's voice bellowed through the house, "You hiding?"

13th July 1910
"Millie, where are you?" A young boy, aged 7 walked around the woods in search of his friend. "Are you hiding?" He arrived at the oak tree where they'd run away when things at home got too much for them to deal with. There he found the small brunette girl, holding something to her face. "What are you doing?"
His sudden appearance startled her, she flinched and hid something behind her back. "Nothing, just playing."
"What are you hiding?" Jesse asked, moving around her but she would keep turning to keep it out of sight. "Let me see."
"No!" She laughed, running around the tree but he simply ran the opposite way, grabbing hold of her. "You cheated."
"Good." He grinned, snatching the object from her hands. It was a paintbrush with blue paint covering the bristles. "What are you doing with this?" She crossed her arms, looking away so he stood in front of her, "Millie?"
The child's bottom lip jutted out into a pout, "Anna got a birthday party because she has blue eyes, so I was colouring mine." Jesse sighed and hugged the girl. It was no secret the Fells preferred Ariana, they thought her look was better suited to the family which meant that Amelia was never even a second thought.
"You don't need to do that." He tossed the brush to the side, "You have beautiful eyes, I wish I had brown eyes like yours."
"Really?" Her tears were swiftly stopped and she beamed, "Do you want me to paint yours? I won't go over the lines."
He stepped back in alarm, "I'm okay but thank you." Jesse ruffled her hair, knowing it would annoy her, "My little Millie."
"Don't call me that." She pushed him away and smoothed down her locks, tightening the blue ribbon that was wrapped in a bow around her hair. "I'm biggerer than you."
The boy looked down at Amelia, who didn't even reach his chin, "You're right, you've grown!" He exclaimed with false wonder, "You need to slow down or you'll end up taller than the tree."
Although they were the same age Jesse had to mature mentally a lot earlier than her, he lost his parents in a fire so was sent to live with his uncle, who owned the town bakery. He knew all too well what it was like being in a home where you're never fully accepted so felt as though it was his responsibility to be the one who always chose Amelia.
"I hate Veronica." She muttered, the angry look returning to her face once again. "She gave Anna a new dress but not me."
"You mustn't call her that, she's your mother." She hadn't settled in to the family as quick as her sister had, being difficult on purpose but the family deserved it. "Call her mother."
"I shan't!" Amelia rebuked, "She is not my mother and she will never be my mother. My mama's in heaven, and she would be very upset with Veronica."
Jesse could sense that she was about to cry again so he quickly changed the subject. "I just remembered, you can't have a birthday..." He gathered a bunch of leaves into a lump and placed them in front of her, they both sat on the grass. "Without cake."
"Those are leaves, Jesse." Amelia giggled, feeling sorry for him that he couldn't tell the difference between food and nature.
"Are you sure?" He mocked, scrutinising the pile. "I see a cake, maybe close your eyes for 5 seconds so you can see it too."
"Fine." She huffed, covering her eyes with her hands. "It's still leaves, when I closed my eyes they were leaves." Jesse brushed them away with a stick and pulled out the small pastry from his bag, placing it on the ground in front of her. "And when I open my eyes they will still be leav-"
Her jaw dropped slightly, her hand immediately went to her forehead to check if she had a temperature that had caused her to hallucinate that it wasn't a cake before. "I think I'm ill."
Jesse smiled at her excitement, it made the beating he would most likely receive later on worth it. "Are you happy?"
"Very." Amelia responded, picking up the cake and feeding him a piece first. As much as he tried to hide the abuse from her, she wasn't entirely clueless, always noticing the small bruises on his face and body. "Are you hurted?"
"No," He lied, taking the pastry and feeding her too. "I snuck it out, he didn't see. I was like a samurai. Don't worry for me, it's my job to protect you."
"Can we play samurais tomorrow?" Amelia asked, picking up two twigs beside her, "I can make swords."
"We can play anything you want, but you still need to make your wish."
"Ooh okay." She crossed her legs, clasping her hands together, eyes screwed shut. "Can I say my wish out loud?"
The Burton boy's attention was caught when he saw a man deeper in the woods. He stood there, watching them however Jesse recognised him from a year prior on Amelia's 6th birthday when he also appeared, observing them. He decided to stay quiet as he didn't want to worry the girl that they were in possible danger. "Of course, you can tell me."
"I wish that we could run away from our homes and live here in our tree." She stood up and traced over the initials they carved into the bark, "You can build us a house on the branches, and then when we're older we can get married and have children called Daffodil and Blossom."
"Daffodil and Blossom." He raised a brow in amusement.
"Flowers make the best names." She shrugged, closing her eyes once again to confirm the wish. "That's what I want."
"Then I will make that come true." He held his pinkie out to her and they linked their fingers.
However what Amelia failed to remember was the old tale, that if you said your wishes out loud, they would never come true.
~~~~
Mia returned home after being at the Grill for 2 hours. Caroline had called their entire class despite her requests to keep it small. She enjoyed receiving gifts, which seemed to be the only pro of celebrating her birthday that year.
Regardless of her bad mood, she was grateful that all her friends had made an effort, even Damon. They'd all tried hard to make her happy and she couldn't fault them for that, she just wished those who were absent could be with her.
The Petrova sat on the window bay, enjoying the breeze that flowed through her room. "Happy birthday Ariana." Her gaze remained fixed on the first star she'd seen in the sky, the old habit still provided her solace and she knew that even if another century passed, she'd still believe in it.
From the corner of her eye she spotted a small box on her dressing table, she walked over and picked it up. Inside the small rectangular box was a necklace.
The diamond at the bottom of the chain matched her favourite earrings.
Besides the gift was a card, she smiled upon recognising the handwriting escribed on the paper.
Happy Birthday, Mia. Enjoy your day, thank you for everything
Love, Stefan
So, there's a lot to break down. About the Hayley thing, if you're thinking why?? Basically I was sad Hayley wasn't mentioned in the Legacies finale so... this was my way of coping. Hayley won't be appearing now until season 4.
That's the last of the 20s. Lemme go cry that Soft Mia is gone, my little baby. Plus nice Klaus because this guy is an asshole in the present.
Jesse and Mia are my children, his uncle and the Fells can burn.
I doubt anyone remembered the earrings from Chapter 13 but basically, Stefan gave them to her in the 20s.
Also, I will be skipping random episodes of Season 3 because Mia has no purpose in most of them so the next chapter will be the Delena road trip to Chicago so obviously Miss Mia will be going with them. Which means... George and Gloria are coming back.
FOLLOW MY TIKTOK, I make ALLURE edits it's the same user as this account (ViaVolterra).
THANK YOU FOR 58K.
LOVE YOUUUU
